Dark/Inv or Dark/SR scrapper is also very easy and both are good and cheap.
If you like more ranged types, either plant/ or earth/ primary and either /earth or /fire secondary on a dominator are absolutely a blast.
Then there is the traditional WP/SS tank or SS/WP brute. Lots of smash, lots of fun.
Claws/WP brute is a bit like a someone turned the energizer bunny into a cyborg buzzsaw and turned it loose.
If you have access to the villain epics, both of them (soldier and widow) are pretty awesome.
My personal recommendation though would be the plant/fire dominator or the claws/WP brute. -
Quote:The goal is to do all of the above. And don't forget your +HP also. You want 80-100% damage plus 1 or 2 procs. Obviously, hamios, and purple recipes with their much higher than usual bonuses come into play here.I posted this in the pvp section and got about 30 views with no responses....>:-(
I'm alittle puzzled as what to build for. It was my understanding that you build for +dam acc and recharge. That's fine that I understand, however it's come to my attention that people also recommend proc'ting the heck out of their attacks, especially the main hitters like AS and Thunderstrike. My question for that is, if you do that obviously your +damage percentage drops, so is the damage bonus's from IO's significant or if I proc'd my attacks will I barely even notice?. I saw somebodying saying the most damage you probably get is +10 damage points from your attacks so its not worth it as much as people think. My build has about 23% damage bonus. What say you? -

Quote:To echo the others, what is your character?I just have a question about soft cap. I can respec my toon so he has just about soft cap in all defenses but loses alot of damage. Is soft cap realy woth haveing if you still get 25 defense and alot more damage out put?
To add what others haven't said, how often do you solo? In a team, def is often less important thanks to buffs.
Also, I go Memphis Bill's road, I aim for defense but don't often bother capping. Getting to 1 small purple off the cap is usually enough for me. I have a few exceptions, but usually that's good enough. -
And in addition to Aett's point, keep in mind that a lot of AoEs are cones and PBAoEs, and being out of range of those is something you can do via positioning.
-
I can confirm that I had 3 regular, plus 2 morality, plus Kal at once. And on another character I had 3 regular plus halloween plus 1 morality (was a hero so couldn't get Kal).
None of my villains got the halloween tip when it was available. -
Quote:As mentioned, you're going to love carrion creepers. Just a warning, slot those babies with generic accuracy, they have multiple attacks and Set IOs work wonky in them as a result. But I found that accuracy made a world of different in mine, far more than damage for just one slot.I didn't think I could get much more out of CoH, but I found power combo that can solo well outside of scrappers/brutes/stalkers.
A plant/fire dominator. Open with Seeds of Confusion and then throw fire as fast as I can. Use holds if necessary. She is surviving well at level 16. We'll see how it goes.
I like to team too but solo power is a must. -
Quote:It will be a bit tricky. DB has fewer single-target attacks so less Kinetic combat. You can run Obliteration in your PBAoEs but that's still less S/L (1.5 compared to 3.7) and vastly less endurance reduction. The compromise is to run multistrike, but that's barely any defense at all at that point (.6 compared to 3.7)Is it possible to get these kind of results on a db/elec brute? I just started one and been wondering what kind of slotting I can do to make it the most survivabile.
I'm looking at this issue on my Fire/DB tank. My solution so far is to suck it up, slot the Obliteration, chew on blues and go for cardiac alpha. -
Hmm, I've been in domination and dropped three sets of roots on a minion class wolf that kept on running, well, ok the damage killed him eventually, but he was never immobilized. Granted, they weren't back-to-back since he'd run off, so with enough resistance the effect might have ended so I never managed to stack it. Similarly I've seen them dance across four sets of caltrops without slowing down.

Quote:That's why people take things like Aid Self.Fire/Shield wont solo tough AVs. Shield, even caped def is still about 8% to get hit (hoping AV doesnt have accu buff or innate accuracy). These 8% WILL kill you at some point if you dont have selft heal.
Lots of AV soloists use sets without a heal and make up for it with Aid Self. And not just the melee types. -
there is no list because it changes. Other expensive ones are Kinetic Combat (all but the Acc/Dam) and the basilisk quad

Quote:Do they have to use the weapon or is there a gravity-control-like weaponless version?Triple Pistols, which means that the Extra Body Parts costume pack will be in high demand.
Also, Blasters and Corrupters will be getting Cat Crossbows:
Me, I'm still hoping for that Red Herring powerset they won't say anything about that is supposed to be the first one ever available to every Archetype (even HEATs and VEATs). -
Quote:I've been told that the flying units like eagles have an aura that is part of what makes them run off to a distance to shoot rather than stay in melee and that is what breaks hide. Never had the patience to test it.I've never noticed Longbow Eagles breaking Hide, but Wyvern spawns have spotted me from absolutely insane distances a few times, and while we were running tip missions earlier this week FCM had assorted random mobs from a couple of different factions spot his Stalker as soon as he walked into the room.
On the ambushes, there are a few different types of them. Some are keyed to a specific character, and they will come to you regardless of hidden or not. Some are keyed to a location and those you can hide from as long as you're out of line of sight until they stop moving. Then there are the ones for rescue missions. They start targeted on you, but if you get away from the hostage and stealth, they will break off, become vulnerable to stealth and just stand around. Then you can go back and slaughter them or just pick the hostage up again and keep going on your merry way. -
I have seen a queue to get onto Freedom once and Virtue twice. These were during Developer Events, and on one double-xp weekend.
Never had a wait anywhere else, but then I pretty much am only on Virtue these days. -
Quote:My recommendation is try either plant/ or earth/so, I've started a couple of doms... but none have gotten over the early 20's yet, and all of them are definitely becoming more vulnerable, I've heard this goes away and they get really great again. am i to assume that that is correct? i would love for all of them to "turn the corner", but I'm worried that it may just be that i need more defenses to play correctly
They get the best early safety. Earth has an AoE stun plus AoE hold, and those are very handy. Plant has confuse plus aoe hold, plus creepers.
/earth has some decent defense in the form of stuns and knocks. /Psi also and it adds the +regen from drain psyche.
Mix and match from those selections and you should have a safer experience.
Also, it is a really key thing to get recharge, accuracy and hold slotted into your single-target hold power ASAP. It is worth spending the money on IOs as low as level 15 to get a few triples in there. I like the Paralytic triple and acc/rech because I can usually buy them for 1k inf and get the salvage as a drop just by playing. Neuronic Shutdown's triple is harder to find but not impossible, and with those two triples and the acc/rech all at level 18 you have:
37.6% acc, 37.6% rech, 23.2% hold.
So two +3 So's and 1 -2 SO worth of enhancement but slotted at level 15 instead of level 22 and it will never expire on you in the middle of a mission. (also, it is less expensive than 3 so's if you're patient or lucky).
Learning to cycle the single-target hold between enemies to keep the most dangerous ones locked down is key. With that slotting you can usually trap 3 enemies as long as you need to. -
Quote:The potential problem with vicky on Rom is that she becomes a source of healing from the heal nictus. And how long can she survive the AoE pulses from the damage nictus (I forget if those are autohit or not, but they are brutal either way)? You can save a slot by one-slotting Super Speed. It's plenty fast on it's own by default and you already have Fly as a travel power. So just put the Botz in Super Speed, place that extra slot somewhere where a sweet bonus would come into play and call it day.
I would agree the ITF is an unusual test for alt uberness. Usually, it's if you can solo AVs, take down a Rikti Pylon or solo the Scrapper Test. If you can take down the ITF by yourself you would be in rarified air, especially on a Blaster. For all my 50s, I think only my Brute could solo the ITF. My scrapper wouldn't be able to withstand the Nictii (Nictuses?).
Now with Incarnate powers added in, it should be a whole lot easier. At Tier 3s on all, you've level-shifted to the point where the ambushes won't phase you. You can get a Victoria boss to tank Rom and go to town on him with your blasts. Barrier will be there for those emergencies with a nice Judgment AoE to decimate the ambushes.
Yeah....hmmm. Think I might roll a Fire Blaster
Edit: for clarity, I'm asking on both counts. I don't really know how well it would work, I'm not naysaying. -
Quote:Here's the thing, Origins of Power, taken literally, says that NO PSYCHICS ARE MUTANTS. It also says that psionic characters have existed among humans since before the first mutants. We're talking about psychics, not anything else. Bringing up other powers, powersets, abilities, etc. is irrelevant.
The Origins of Power gives the lore explanation for psychics. Whether or not YOU PERSONALLY AGREE is totally irrelevant. It's there for lore purposes; you and everyone else can choose to incorporate it or not as you see fit. But that doesn't make it stop existing.
Psyche's words are that she "believes" she is not a mutant at all, and that psionics are not mutants either (both Sister's opinion, not given as fact). No mutants existed before 1938 (stated as a fact). Psionic characters exist back to the sybils of Rome and even earlier (also presented as a fact).
Given that evidence in a complete vacuum, nothing suggests that psionic characters are or should be mutants. If anything, it suggests that they should not be.
But I also like to read this bit of ambiguity as evidence of my proposal that all powersets can be any origin. At the very least Psyche doesn't agree with her own clasification as a mutant. -

Quote:No, not the kings, but do quite well. The hit points are so low that soloing AVs is far harder with a stalker than a brute or scrapper and the damage is lower to boot in many cases. Running against AVs down in Port Oaks would really suck and even at high level, if you barely survived with any other melee character, you would have been dead had you been on a stalker.I don't mean to highjack but this seems like a good primary general discussion thread: which primary is best for exemplaring? Keeping in mind that this means Ouro exemplaring and TF/SF exemplaring. Is there any stalker than can solo everything at +0x1/yes/yes?
edit: It's been a long, long time since I played a stalker, so am I even right in my assumption that they're kings of soloing?
But outside of that, I haven't found a primary yet that CAN'T solo +1/x2/yes/no. Even spines which, really I have nothing else positive to say about. Ninja blade and dark are both awesome down very low.
I do recommend making an exemplar-based build with all your level 24 and lower powers six slotted with low-level IOs. I have one of these and it makes a world of difference. -
Quote:Ah, that is a costume change. To do this you have to have the science booster pack that gives you access to the "cosmetic surgeon" found at each tailor. They give you access to not only the height slider, but even the male-female-huge selector. So you can have a little kid hulk out, or have a woman turn into a man (or the other way 'round).First off, to Young Tutor and Gavin Runeblade, let me say thanks for your replies.
I am not so much interested in a cosmetic costume change (which I already know about, thank you very much) as I am in the specific example I mentioned.
Anyone who remembers the original Captain Marvel (which admittedly was a long time ago) will remember that Billy Batson was a child somewhere between twelve and fifteen, whose alter ego was the adult Captain Marvel.
I have a schoolgirl, Laurie Kinnison, who will I guess, grow up to be a sonic Blaster called Screamin' Mimi. I guess what I'm really asking is whether or not one can adjust the physical sliders in a 'build'? So that one could be a child of immature stature and the other be an adult. Because although there certainly have been a lot of changes made in my extended absence, stature changes wern't being offered in respecs before I went away.
But in this case, it is 100% visual, the powers will not be changed. -
Quote:I don't think it is intended for 24/7 hand-holding. It's just a flag that says "hey, if I screw up don't hold it against me" and it points them at the help forum which otherwise they might miss.I'm one of those people who use whatever tag matches their outfit. I don't think the help tag is a particularly well thought out tool that will ever actually help anyone, so I don't really feel bad about abusing it either. It's my experience that people who are playing a game don't want their hand held 24/7 but would rather only get help for specific problems, so I ignore the tool which is only useful for 24/7 handholding in favor of the perfectly adequate tools that are used to address specific questions and problems newbies may have - help chat, local/broadcast, or the forums.
I'm willing to have my mind changed on this though, so if you have some heartwarming stories of newbies being helped just because they set their "help me" flag then tell 'em.
And I know that I've helped a few people who asked because they saw the helper tag in a low population zone.
I should probably flag my tanker as "help me" simply because anyone who trusts my tank to (a) survive and/or (b) hold aggro, is in for a rude surprise and a team wipe. Hehehe. -
Don't overlook Gaussian's Set. 2.5% resist all is very tasty and on top of that you're already in leadership for maneuvers, so grab tactics and help with those accuracy woes at the same time.
And any primary with buildup can take rectified reticle for a touch of S/L defense at a cost of only 2 slots.
while it isn't what it used to be, Zephyr still gives a decent defense hit for only 2 or 3 slots as well, can put them into combat jumping or superjump since you're already dipped into that pool.
For my elec/elec brute it was more the slots than the powers that were hard to afford. -
Quote:There is also the PvP PBAOE set that gives 3 points of KB resist and some pieces are cheaper than eradication/obliteration.Actually there IS a knockback i/o set that provides 3 points of KB prot...as well as 7.5% rech..forget it's name though :P
I got 5 copies each of 4 pieces of the set (not the proc, that goes for a billion+ pretty reliably) for less than 10m each a few months back. Definitely outside the budget of this guide, but also far less than obliteration's 30-90m per piece. -
Just a couple of quick expansions on the answers you already have:
Quote:IT depends. You can change the look, as mentioned with teh reference to costumes. But with a different build you cannot change your Fire/Fire blaster into a Cold/Thorn Dominator, nor into an Energy/Psi blaster. You can take different powers and in a different order, but you cannot change your Archetype, origin, primary or secondary power set.Could I have my 'Billy Batson' type alt change into Captain Marvel with a new build?
You are free to ditch or select new power pools (have one build that flies and one with no travel power for example). And you can take different Epic and Patron pools.
Quote:How does one go about initiating a different build?
All builds start at level 1 with no powers or slots selected. You have to level up one step at a time, but do not need to regain the experience all over again.
