Have been playing with the build that Local Man posted earlier in the thread. Since I haven't had a whole lot of time to work on him yet, he's still in the mid 20s or so, and yeah, I am definitely an aggro magnet. Have to be careful to make sure the aggro is well-anchored on the tank before I let some of the AoEs go or I am toast. Usually keep the Tank targeted so s/he can benefit from any Transfusions I throw out. Also helps to mitigate some of the aggro.
  2. Very much looking forward to this. Should be a lotta fun for the attendees AND for me.

My thoughts exactly. What was annoying is that in SOME cases, it would let you call the person via your Inactive contacts tab (assuming they were a previous contact), but other times it wouldn't. A little consistency would be nice, preferably leading towards the "can call" side of the equation.

Yes, "Refer A Friend" will work on a Premium account, but the "VIP Starter Kit" will NOT. It can only be used on an account which has never spent any money. The VIP Starter kit will immediately set the account up for one month of access. Since it is an active VIP account, Refer A Friend will NOT work because your friend is already referred. In order to refer that account, it would need to be inactive for 90 days.

Sooo... your options are as follows:

    1. Use the Refer-A-Friend program, set up a new account, pay 15 bucks for the first month, and get 500 points on both accounts, and never use the VIP Starter Kit on that account.
    2. Use the VIP Starter Kit on the account, get the 400 points on that account, and nothing on your primary account. Optionally, if you then let the account lapse for 90 days, you can get the Refer-A-Friend bonus by referring the account in 90 days, but you will end up having to pay for a month subscription on it for it to award the bonus.

Basically, Refer-A-Friend is gonna cost you 15 bucks whether you do it now or 90 days down the road. The Starter Kit can only be used when you are initially setting up the account though.

If it works like the /bind_save_file and /bind_load_file commands, then the SAVE version will default to saving in the game's directory, but the LOAD one will not. Your best bet is to make a folder and specify a path with both commands.

At least that's how it is under Windows.

That being said, I am not 100% sure that the chat save and load is what you are going to need anyway. If I am not mistaken, when it saves your chat settings, it is saving configuration options such as what channels are on what tabs, etc.

If that's the case, what you MAY want to do is set up a series of keybind files that will join/leave the proper global channels for you.
  6. I am gonna chime in on the folks who use Celerity: +Stealth in Sprint. My thinking on this is that if you toggle both powers on, your stealth effect is the same, however a run speed enhancement is going to give you less of a boost in sprint than it would in SS. So, I generally slot SS for speed and then use Stealth in my sprint power.

Anything that needs to be "tanked" in this game can have its aggro held by a Brute or Scrapper and they can equally sustain any damage as well as a tank assuming both are built equally well.
Just from my perspective, I get exactly what you are saying about Tankers not really being "needed" because even though they have a higher survivability than Brutes or Scrappers, that little extra edge is rarely required.

Keep in mind though, that while survivability is certainly a requirement for a good tank, it's not really their "function" in a team. Their "function" is to keep aggro off of the rest of the team. As far as I recall, Tankers are still the only AT that have a built-in taunt when they attack, which taunts any foes around their target. Perhaps they need to buff this built-in taunt a little to make it even more effective. Doing this will also make that extra edge in the area of suvivability more useful to them.

The thing is, while they don't offer badges as an item in the store, Positron's statement is not entirely accurate. What used to be Veteran Badges are now Paragon Rewards badges, which you now earn by spending money on a subscription OR by buying Paragon Points.

IF they had kept those badges as "Veteran" badges and based them solely on subscription time, and nothing more, then the statement would have been more accurate. For the record, I completely agree with keeping badges OUT of the store directly.
  9. My CoH account got hacked last year and ended up being banned. I have to say the CS folks were very helpful in clearing up the matter. Now I use Last Pass for generating/storing passwords for any web-based stuff I do.

Works well, and it's free. Just waiting for the announcement that "Last Pass Has Been Hacked! User Information Compromised! Change All Passwords IMMEDIATELY!"

If so this is indeed an interesting development. I wonder how this will impact the prices of the uniques within the Numina's and LOTG sets in particular.
The put some of the uncommon stuff on Sale a couple of weeks ago. I believe they were all Melee sets. They were only available during that one week. I expect the same thing from these sets.

If I am right about the availability post-sale, the in-game market impact should be minimal. With them only being available during the sale, once the sale is over, people will need to return to the market. Also, you have to take the people who just disagree with IOs being in the market at all. They aren't likely to touch them (or if they do, they aren't likely to be very public about it.) Because they are account bound, there is no way to stockpile a bunch to dump on the market after the sale is done. You can stockpile them, but only for your own characters.

Yes, but only down to the level they would normally be available. For example, if you have an enhancement that is normally 25-50, it will scale down to 22. Below that, you lose any set bonuses. Now SINCE it is scaled down to 22, and not 25, you actually keep those set bonuses until 19 (when you would be able to slot a 22). Once you go down to level 18, it scales down to 21, and the set bonuses go away.

It is because the fact that they can actually down 3 levels lower than the "normal" set IOs that some people have...shall we say..."serious issues" with the store bought IOs.

Oh, it's quite possible. I have a blue side SG base I created right around the last Double XP Weekend that has 8 teleporters (16 zones) already. That's all the main city zones (including the Echo of Galaxy City), plus Perez Park, Faultline, Terra Volta, Rikti War Zone, and Pocket D.

In addition, the base has 9 salvage racks, personal storage vault, personal crafting table, enhancement storage, inspiration storage, and, of course, the power and control to support all of this with some to spare.

At this point, the small plot is pretty much maxxed out space-wise, so I am currently saving up to upgrade the plot. All of this was done WITHOUT buying ANY prestige. It's all earned prestige.
  13. I noticed the site has it under "Anime" news. Is this going to be animated or live action? If it's going to be animated, the age of the actor isn't really a factor since he will just be voicing the part.

I agree though, there is a specific reason why they choose kids in the book and not teenagers or adults. If they change that, it really messes with the underlying plot a great deal.

Of those of you that read "Ender's Game", did any of you also read "Ender's Shadow"? For those that don't know, ES is not really a sequel to EG, it's the same story being told from Bean's point of view instead of Ender's. While that may seem pointless, the two books are really quite different because of the difference in how Ender perceives the events and how Bean perceives them.

Ah, but "X" IS a trainer and the text in her/its dialog is "Train to a Level of Power" exactly as on a trainer. There is one flaw in the training setup they use now though. Twinshot's arc doesn't unlock until you have trained to level 4. If it unlocked BEFORE you actually trained, there would be nothing wrong with having her introduce you to trainers.

To assume "People already know this stuff at level 5" is an assumption, but not necessarily an accurate one.
  17. Well, I would say the answer to this is yes and no.

Salvage and recipes come in 3 tiers, based on level. Within each tier, there are Common, Uncommon, and Rare recipes and salvage. Additionally, high level NPCs can drop Very Rare (Purple) recipes.

Your recipes will always drop based on your COMBAT level. That is, if your level is set higher or lower because you are on a team or running a TF, Flashback, SSA, etc, your drops will always come from your temporary level. Also, as soon as you hit the level for a certain tier, you will start getting drops from that tier, whether you train or not.

There is some overlap in the tiers, so you will start getting some tier 2 salvage and recipes before you stop getting tier 1. Similarly, you will start getting tier 3 before you stop getting tier 2. By the time you reach 50 though, all your drops will be tier 3 (unless you are exemplared down, as mentioned above).

Now, as to whether or not Tier 3 is necessarily "better" than tier 1 or 2, that depends on your perspective. In many cases the Tier 1 and 2 recipes and salvage will sell for more than the tier 3 recipes and salvage if you are selling them in the AH.

Your inspiration drops will change greatly based on what level you are fighting at. Medium and Large inspirations drop much more frequently as your level increases.

Enhancements will drop based on your combat level, just like salvage and recipes with one difference. If your level is set HIGHER then you will get enhancements of that level. If your level is set lower you will not receive enhancements at all.

As long as you shoulder part of the burden, like running to contact and forming the team, you'll likely have some experienced players on the team who can give you advice along the way.

Note this really doesn't apply to incarnate trials, which in fact are darn hard, at least if you're new. Those you just might have to suffer through the confusion until you figure it out. It you could find a dedicated group of new players who want to experience the content as new, I'm sure you could do it, but I doubt most of the player base wants to watch a bunch of new folks run around at random and fail an iTtrial a few times, which is what the rest of us had to do to figure it out.
One thing I can recommend as far as the iTrials go is to stop by the same site I mentioned earlier, Pargon Wiki. They have strategy guides that explain all of the incarnate trials there. Where you should be at each stage, what to expect, what to avoid, etc. It will greatly improve your understanding once you are standing there in the iTrial.

There was a guy a couple of months ago that was doing Keyes Reactor trial walk throughs on Freedom. That trial is unique in that the entire area the trial takes place can be visited in world (minus all the incarnate level enemies of course). So he would get together a group of folks and take them there, and walk them through the area going over what goes on during the trial. I attended one of them and he did a spectacular job. Not sure if he still doing them or not, but keep an eye on the forums (particular the Freedom Server forum), because he will usually post a message in advance inviting people to come.

If you don't have a character on Freedom, don't sweat it. You can create a level 1 Praetorian, exit the tutorial area, and join the team for the walk through. Since you'll automatically be sidekicked up to 49, the surrounding enemies will be a non-issue.
  19. None of the females. Would just rather not add more fuel to the WIR fire that is raging on the boards.
  20. Up until Freedom, it was a simple command line option to choose the Hero, Villain, or Praetorian theme at start up. This set, not only the music, but also the color scheme and login screen, and character collection screen background. Once you selected a character, it would, of course, switch to the appropriate color scheme and artwork.

With the release of Freedom, that flag was deprecated and everyone has the same login screen and character selection screen unless you have done something to customize them. Technically speaking, that's not really something is supported or encouraged by NCSoft/Paragon. Mainly because the development of the methods for doing it required reverse engineering the compression used in the game files, which is proprietary. That reverse engineering is a clear violation of the EULA. Last I heard, the developers still frown on the use of PIGG viewers and similar utilities.

You aren't taught about them at level 5. You are taught about them at level 1. Twinshot's mission simply has you talk to one again. During that conversation, if I am not mistaken, the trainer briefly talks about some of the other things the trainer can do like setting titles, switching builds, and (*cringe*) customizing your costume (still don't really like this addition to their repertoire).

The Praetorian tutorial was designed in the style of the older, longer, style of tutorials though. The reason the arc is so long is because they try to do it in a more entertaining way by doing it through a story rather than through a textbook.

Between enhancements (just normal enhancements), inspirations, the invention system, and mission architect, there is simply too much information to cover (or even touch on) during a tutorial without putting the player into information overload. You give them too much text to read and they won't read any of it at all. So they came up with abbreviated tutorial to get them into the game very quickly. New players don't want to read. They want to play.

That should be either in the tutorial or the first mission upon entering Atlas Park/Mercy Island. The old content was a hell of a lot more informative than this new stuff.
The entire point of the new tutorial was to keep it short and to have the players getting out into Atlas Park as quickly as possible. It teaches nothing but the bare essentials...how to move...how to jump...how to target...how to attack...how to interact with NPCs...exposure to a scaled down "giant" monster.

Twinshot's arc, and the equivalent on the Villain side, were intended to get more in depth in teaching about the game. That's precisely why these missions have you doing seemingly "insulting" stuff like talking to a trainer (trainers are actually introduced briefly in the tutorial), explicitly going to the train station, the market, and the AE building (so that you know where they are), later on talking to a Hero Corp Analyst (or Fateweaver), etc. It was a way to introduce these things in a way other than a long wall of text which most players wouldn't read.

There's no cliffhanger in what you described because..well... that's not at the edge of the story, where one would place a cliffhanger. Think of watching an episode of your favorite TV show. You're watching the story, you have your hero going along, they get into a tight spot, spin around and see a gun pointed at them...cut to commercial. That's a cliffhanger. It happens at the edge, as they cut away from the story. Either at a break, like that, or at the end of an episode.

Sooo.. let's have a look at Episode 3 as.. well.. an episode. What happens in the last scene of the episode? "Who's next?" "You're next, my dear Sharise". (Can't remember the exact dialog, but that's the general idea of it.) That is CLASSIC cliffhanger material. Gets people to want to see what's going to happen her, if she will get out of it, and if so, how.

This is really the first time we have seen true serial content in this game. Usually everything is capsulized and self contained. I rather like the anticipation of waiting to see what happens.
