help with server chat channels

I'm playing on different servers, Freedom, Union, Virtue. Every time I log on a server I join a lot of chat channels relative to the server I'm on, but when I change server I need to leave a lot of channels, to free slots, and be able to join the channels of the new server. I wrote it complicated , but: is there a way to automatically join and leave a set of chat channels when changing server and/or toon ? Thanks a lot.

You can save the chat channel setup for each server into a named file, and then load it when you log in to the server. The commands are:

/chat_save_file filename
/chat_load_file filename

You can have as many different files as you need.

Thanks...but, I can write the file, but upon trying to load the saved file it says "unable to read". Maybe those commands do not work properly on the Mac OS version of the game ? Someone knows ? Maybe I should post on specific forum ?

If it works like the /bind_save_file and /bind_load_file commands, then the SAVE version will default to saving in the game's directory, but the LOAD one will not. Your best bet is to make a folder and specify a path with both commands.

At least that's how it is under Windows.

That being said, I am not 100% sure that the chat save and load is what you are going to need anyway. If I am not mistaken, when it saves your chat settings, it is saving configuration options such as what channels are on what tabs, etc.

If that's the case, what you MAY want to do is set up a series of keybind files that will join/leave the proper global channels for you.

I feel your pain. I play on all 15 servers and we only get 15 global chat channels. I believe the chatload/chatsave commands only configure the chatwindow and do not join/quit the global channels like you were probably looking to do.

I also don't think thats neccesarily a good idea. Some of the larger chats (freedom tf, virtue lfg) are at or near maximum capacity, if you were to quit, you might not get back in.

Perhaps you could be more selective in the channels you use? Do you really need more than 1 or 2 of the most active channels on each server?

One thing I have gotten into the habit of doing.... have all 15 channels running at once in the chat window (with the channel of the server I'm on tinted to red so I know where I am - lol). It can get hectic at times but I can always see something to do (and end up doing a lot of server hopping).

Got it working! I just "discovered" that under mac os x /chatsavefile d:/filename puts the file under the home directory, and /chatloadfile d:/filename reads it.
However yes, those commands do not leave already joined chats, so I need to do some selection

How do you do this ?

You can left click a channel name (once someone, like you, posts in it), then choose Set Color. I don't just set one channel's color. I color them all differently. I also make Tabs to group the channels for each server.

Remember to resave your file. And then, reload it on your other characters.

Oh yeah it helps a ton to color them. I'm mostly on freedom but have a lot of privet super group channels and tf channels. Sometimes it gets confusing just for one server
