Quote:Create a new Player's Guide
(snip)
Significantly reduce the number of Defeat X missions. Specifically reduce the number of Defeat X missions in hazard zones, as they put soloists at significant risk of great bodily harm. These missions don't really move a plot line forward. They just kill time.
hire this guy!!!
For the Defeat missions, add a little variety by having a random roll with every defeat so that you might find the information you need before you get to the X one. I would put in a minimum (say about half of X) before rolling, but X should be the maximum. -
Actually, after thinking about my above post, this could be a way to have "mayhems" on heroside: a new mission objective: break certain things, but NOT everything (you fail if you break too many).
-
Quote:You could RP the mayhems into anti-villain objectives. You're going to rob a bank, but you're only going after safe deposit boxes known to be owned by criminals. The objects you break along the way (which is fun!) are marked with a certain criminal organization's emblem; you could ignore certain objects, like the trash bins, cars*, parking meters** , etc. Btw, when Prohibition started in the USA you can see newsreel footage of lawmen breaking containers holding alcoholic beverages so it's not without a real life precedent.OK, first off, I have to admit to not reading all 11 pages of this thread, so I'm sorry if this question was already asked.
I just made a redside hero today, and I want to RP her as much as a hero as I can, therefore I plan to avoid fighting Longbow and other heroic organizations. My question is, given the way the redside game mechanics work, is it possible to advance in the game without doing mayhem missions? If I just let them time out and fail them all, my brokers will still introduce me to new contacts, right?
* or destroy only certain cars, or cars of a certain color, or trucks on any one particular mayhem as those belong to some criminal element.
** unless there's a criminal organization who gets the proceeds from parking meters, but then you MUST destroy every single one. That could be the true objective of a mayhem mission, the bank robbery is just a cover.
I have fought Longbow with my "heroic" villains, but it's a staged attack that I've secretly set up with Longbow beforehand; my attacks are not as lethal as they may appear, the LB agents are secretly better armored against my attacks (they take damage, but it's more superficial), and LB treat it as a training exercise as well.
You do have to fool your contacts once in awhile, as well as Arachnos. -
Bah. Wimps. I want there to be MORE missions that you could fail as they are the ones that are the most challenging. Yeah, Crimson's could be toned down a little bit, but then perhaps that's what is really desired by the devs: Crimson is supposed to get away.

Quote:That's how you can tell who are the true role-players and who are the pretenders.Hmmm...I personally have no problem with it being said.
Though being on Virtue, I don't care for it when people say it IC. I mean really, that glow that happens when you level up, I see as a OOC effect, that just shows you've leveled. Kinda like how I don't think the glow that says "hey you remembered to click the power on" has to mean that the glow is seen IC.
But that's just me.
I do think it's a bit silly to convey congratulations for something so easy as gaining levels in CoH/CoV. Maybe do so at certain levels, say 20 because you can earn a cape (not really), or 32 because you can get your *cough* uber power, or at 40 when you've reached the endgame levels.
I offer condolences at level 50. -
Quote:And I'd use my allowance to remove this lamest idea ever.I would add a giant red ball that spawned randomly in zones accompanied with a PPD alert along the lines of "HOLY **** A GIANT RED BALL HAS APPEARED IN [...]"
The Giant Red Ball would take advantage of the physics engine, and can be effected by running into it, or by targeting it and shooting it. Different attacks would result in different trajectory, of course.
After about 2 hours the ball would pop, and drift off into the wind. Only to return again the next day in another zone.
After about a year of this, I would release a Task Force centered around the Giant Red Ball, and you and a team of Heroes/Villains must join forces to take down the mastermind who is supplying the Giant Red Ball with power. The ending of course, will shock everyone... -
Quote:No it hasn't. I still hunt on the streets.I think it'd be a good way to spice up old purse snatchers. Although, street pounding went the way of the dinosaur ages ago.
Quote:It'd probably be for the best just to finally shrug and reduce Outdoor defeat debt to the same amount as Indoor defeat debt. -
Quote:My next planned project once I start playing again (once I get back from this work trip) will actually be to play a character that ONLY stays outside. NO door missions, PERIOD.
So either the patrol missions, hunting on the street, or the Defeat X missions. Basically treat the instanced nature of CoH as if it doesn't exist and treat the game like any other "standard" MMO.
Should be interesting... I wonder if anyone would be interested in a thread detailing the progress or not...
I hunt in zones most of the time these days. I've gotten tired of the same 5 indoor map types over and over and over... But I do missions or join teams on occasion. One thing I do is try to get defeat badges while I can still get XP/rewards from the mobs. I've completed that task with several badges but not all of them, I do however get a fair way towards some of them. Perez Park is a great zone for several defeat badges.
How will you get to Cimerora? -
/Storm Blaster. I'd go with Energy for the primary set for my concept.
I've played Storm/Energy Defenders (max level gotten to is 26) but they just don't have the oomph I want. Then there's the team nazis that didn't like me since they NEEDed and expected my defending abilities (like healing or bubbles). -
Quote:I've thought the same thing, as well as the existing zones are under-utilized in general. Certain areas almost beg for small "missions" or little events (examples):Exactly. I think we have enough zones and they all have pretty unique themes, even though I don't think the themes are always utilized as well as they could be.
- The Pit in Sharkhead could have a Caged Consortium guard & Lt. looking over the edge and clicking on the LT will give a short "fetch" situation: a piece of equipment fell down and is being played with by slags (clicking on the guard would give some sort of "uh yep, it's down there somewhere" type of NPC chatter);
- a kid's stuffed toy fell into the water in Founders' Falls and floated over to some DE in the wooded/grassy area, have 2 parents and kid near Icon so they're easily found, kid tells about toy floating away, a parent gives the mission;
- the Fort in Port Oaks begs for a mini-mission arc with a contact near the entrance (idea: tour guide, with a few tourists standing around her, is missing one of her tourists - find tourist, who wants you to find his camera, a two-part arc);
Placing these contacts near mission doors, stores, or other places that players generally go to would help players find the contact, but otherwise these contacts and missions are optional. Some could even give badges.
Heh.. one thing I thought of for a badge: do a "heroic" deed for a citizen of the Rogue Isles gets you a badge (say, "Hero for a day") and sometime later when you talk to Lord Recluse he congratulates you for helping one of HIS citizens (makes for good publicity). -

Alternately you could cast me in the role of GM leading the party along through altered exposition, which I do a lot of. "Eh. I don't like the plot of this adventure. I'll spice it up for my group, though the encounters work perfectly".

I want to join your teams, seriously. -

I thought you were going to mention things I didn't know.

Will we still have squarish round things (i.e., ship sterns)? Will trees and shrubs still be planes of psuedo-leaves crisscrossing each other? Will store windows remained blurred? Will my cellphone for the emote still be a cellphone of the 90s? Well, emote updates may be a different thing. I won't mention graphic updates for bases. (oops)

Quote:They only need to be right ONCE.
Besides, it's always fun bashing DOOMers, because they've never been right yet.
My friends and I are playing DDO again, most, myself included, due to the free offering and one did resubscribe. We also get together to play PnP D&D once a week.
I still have my CoH/CoV account active, still play, and will continue to do so. I'd just want more content; or even better: different ways to be a hero or do heroic things. My villains want other goals to achieve than to be a "Destined One" *spit*. -
Will clothing be changed to account for tails? I doubt it.
Is there ANYWHERE in furry/anthro art that actually makes clothing fit the concept of people with tails? All I've seen is a tail attached to the back and dresses or pants are exactly the same as for tailless people. Take that green-skinned (looks more white to me) anthro-girl shown earlier. You don't see the backside, but it looks like the tail might be stuck onto the pants. -
Quote:Nearly every time I used it, the nearby enemy(s) of the pet going boom moved away from the pet before the explosion. After several attempts I got rid of the power at the next respec. I've never taken it again. It's too much effort for so little gain. The crash would the loss of the pet and the time to resummon and rebuff a new one.
Edit: Going through the powers there, I find the oft maligned Detonator does ~305 damage unenhanced, equivalent to the regular blaster nukes (psychic, rad, sonic, and energy, but actually stronger than electricity's). Seems the extra long recharge isn't too bad a price to pay considering it has no crash. Why does everyone hate this again? -
You can see this information on the Manage Enhancement page, also. But, it does not show the damage output of the pets.
-
Does this mean we'll be getting ponies in the game?
-
Demon summoning? Meh.
Now, a Nymph summoning Mastermind I would like.
(Really, I have no interest in the demon summoning MM. For those that do, have fun with it.) -
Wailers, difficult? Since when? They seem fairly easy to me.
-
More patterns would even be good. We only have one magic pattern, still? I don't even like it wrapping about the rear. A magic pattern that goes up the side of the body, like Tribal or Isles, would be nice.

Quote:There's nothing stopping you from doing that now. What if we do something to adjust once again the value of doing patrol and hunting missions? Maybe if people spent more time outside the instances, it wouldn't be quite as repetitive? Some of my favorite early memories of this game was taking down CoT in the middle of the night of King's Row rooftops and back alleys. Made me really feel like a vigilante.

Is Dr. String, with laser beam eyes, the nemesis of catgirls?
Perhaps its just my cat who thinks that all string must be hunted down and flailed to bits?
(makes for a cheap cat toy, too)
