I've heard just the opposite. Disney is very aggressive when it comes to trademark and copyright protection. They are especially aggresive in going after non-licensed merchandise - like all of those T-shirt shops in Orlando that are selling merchandise with Disney characters, but that haven't been licensed by Disney.

    But Archangel can be?

So if I make an winged character with a broadsword and the name Archangel Michael, I risk being genericed? That's BS.

For that matter, how about any character who bears even the slightest resemblance to a Judeo-Christian angel? Should they be Gen'd because of their resemblance to the Marvel character?

Or how about a Soviet Super-Soldier named Kapitan Archangelsk (a city in Russia)?

I think the GM in this case was being too eager with the Gen-Hammer. If the character bore no other resemblance to the Marvel character, other than a similar (but NOT the same) name, then I don't see how it could be infringing.

Angels and archangels are a very common images in Judeo-Christian mythology, I don't agree that any character resembling them automatically is a ripoff of the Marvel character.

What's next, Generic anyone with a red cape, cuz they're clearly ripping off Superman?

Or Generic anyone with a spider motif, cuz their ripping off Spider-Man?

If that's the case, then remove the Claws and Regen powersets from the game, cuz those powersets can only be used for toons who rip off Wolverine.
  5. Must've been a temporary fix, cuz the red spikes are back on Infinity.
  6. Just logged onto Infinity and got a nice lawn with no red spikes!

There is also a download at Vidiotmaps that will actually place Faction names on your in-game map to make finding them easier. For instance, if you're looking for Lost in King's Row, it will show you on your map which neighborhoods to find them.

It will also show locations of badges and plaques.

Unfortunately, the writing is sorta small, so you have to zoom the map to read.
  9. How long after CoV came out did it merge with CoH?

Seems like I remember CoV came out late in 2005 and the two merged in 2007 or so?

(Not that I am assuming that GR will do the same, but it would be nice if after a year or two, we all could go and play "purple-side.")

  13. Let Me Make Sure That I'm Doing This Correctly:

    Hold Down <Shift>.
Type First Letter Of First Word.
    Release <Shift>.
    Type Rest Of First Word.
    Hit <Space>.

    Hold Down <Shift>.
Type First Letter Of Second Word.
    Release <Shift>.
    Type Rest Of Second Word.
    Hit <Space>.

    Hold Down <Shift>.
Type First Letter of Third Word.
    Release <Shift>.
    Type Rest Of Third Word.
    Hit <Space>.

That seams so much more efficient than:

    Hold down <shift>.
Type first letter of first word.
    Release <shift>.
    Type rest of first word.
    Hit <space>.
    Type second word.
    Hit <space>.
    Type third word.
    Hit <space>.........

  16. Also, check and see if your server has dedicated "teaming" channels. It's a lot more effective to post a "team wanted" message in that kind of channel because anyone else on that channel can see it regardless of which zone they are in, even if they are in a mission instance. Whereas, posting a message in Broadcast is only visible to those people who are in the zone you are in - and then, only if they are not in a mission instance.

  18. The old forums made this much easier.

On these new forums, how do I embed a link inside a word?

For instance, if you were to click on the word below:

    Linky

You would be directed to this link:

Can you elaborate without breaking NDA?
  20. OK, good. I was worried that it would be a visible, physical shield.

I figured I'd get zinged on that; been so long since I used Ghost Slaying Axe, that I forgot what it looked like.

Firstly , my point wasn't what the GSA looked like, but that it looked completely different from my main Battle Axe AND that using it caused redraw. (But having re-checked it out, the GSA skin does look kinda cool, wish it was available for the Battle Axe powerset.)

Secondly, the Ghost Slaying Axe should never be considered a part of your normal attack chain. It should be used in the special circumstances for which it is intended, fighting ghosts.
Secondly - if it's OK with you - I'll play my character my way. For me, any and all attacks should be used. If I have Ghost Slaying Axe, I'm gonna use it no matter what I'm fighting. Of course, I'll probably only use it when there is a gap in my normal attack chain, but I'll still use it frequently.

My point to the person I was replying to, is that I had a Battle Axe using toon, yet I still felt Sands of Mu was more useful to him than Ghost Slaying Axe. I've never played a Dark Melee character (or one using any other Dark-based attacks), but I think they are the only ones who would ever get more utility out of GSA than SoM, and then only if they were fighting something that had defenses against Dark Attacks.

And it's definitely a server issue, not my provider. I did the same thing Part_Troll did:

I did a netgraph on Justice (West Coast server) and it was like cut grass, Duplicate = 0, Retransmit = 0, and Lost = 0 after about a minute of monitoring.

Then I did a netgraph on Infinity (East Coast server) and it had lots of red spikes, Duplicate = 1, Retransmit = 0, and Lost = 50 after about a minute. (Does that mean lost packets?)

However, unlike Part_Troll, Friday's maint did not fix the issue for me. I'm still having this problem.
  23. Just remember, if you delay choosing a travel power (presumably relying on Raptor Pack and Jump Pack until then) and then get exempted down to below the level you chose the travel power, you suddenly have no travel power.

For instance, say you're now level 35. You choose Fly at 32. Your Raptor Pack and Jump Pack are out of fuel. You're too low to get into the Shadow Shard to buy one. Your friends decide to do the Sister Psyche TF. When you enter the TF, you'll be exempted down to level 25. Since you waited until 32 to choose Fly, you'll have no travel power.
  24. The Combat Shield accolade power (achieved with Gladiator): Is it a visible shield? If so, what does it look like?

Just be aware that if your toon uses the Battle Axe powerset, switching to Ghost Slaying Axe does cause redraw.

I had a dwarf-type character (SD/BA tanker) that chose Ghost Slaying Axe. Every time I used the power, it caused redraw. AND the Ghost Slaying Axe (which uses the Legacy Axe skin) looked nothing like the skin I chose for my Battle Axe (Impervium Axe).

So every time I was in a fight, it looked like I kept switching back and forth between different axes.

Finally, I just deleted and re-rolled, choosing Sands of Mu instead.
