Quote:They've hardly ever remove thing from the game. The only things added and removed was the Calvin Scott TF to explain how Sister Psyche got put back into her real body. And all of the 5th Column story arcs were just rewritten to use the Council.I'm not sure it will be - I think the current Praetorian missions will be totally removed from the game.
But they might possibly use the story framework in GR - like the Praetorians preparing to invade, and Statesman being captured, only rewritten and fleshed out, and set in the Praetrorian zones instead of being accessed through portal Corp.
Mother Mayhem is still mind-riding in the Praetorian Aurora Borealis. There might be a story in Going Rogue where Mother Mayhem get's her body back. -
That's an incredibly rare event. Only the Rikti Heavy Suits are level 50. The rest of the Rikti Forces are only level 30. And yes, underneath the Giant Monster coding, game critters have levels.

Quote:It's quite easy to create ultra-powerful characters and still have them be in the game as it exists. It's all in the writer. My name namesake character was a human boy from Paragon which was a class Omega mutant, but he hard a slight flaw in mutant powers (energy Maniipulator) in that he had no control. As his powers manifested, he begain to radiant energy. Small at first, but gradually increasing over time. Crey volunteers to help study his problem and research a cure. They call in favors by calling in heros with Energy powers to help wiht the problem and buy Crey more time. Crey being who they are did research Fuzun's problem, but they actually developed a treatment that would increase Fuzun's powers. (This was pre-Rikti War and pre-Paragon Proctector but Fuzun was the genesis for their creation. In my opinion, the resentment towards these characters' creators stems from the perception that they make one or both of these rationalizations in their creation process:
A) "This character is not from this world, therefore they must be very powerful!"
or even worse:
B) "This character is very powerful, therefore they can't possibly be from this world!"
combined with the usual perceived intent to create a Mary Sue.
I haven't seen a lot of extraplanetary/extradimensional/extraplanar/extratemporal player characters ingame that may possibly follow A or B and aren't also a Mary Sue. Then again, I haven't seen many extra- based bios, or many Mary Sues, for that matter.). Crey applied the treatment and Fuzun's power out increase exponetially. Instead of a Paraon Creator being created, Fuzun just vanished in flash if intense light. Fuzun was transported to a dimension of energy being. Fuzun didn't explode he just evolved into the ultimate expression of his powers. He changed into an energy being himself. It took hundreds of thousand of yets to mostly master his form and powers. Fuzun did want to return to his Primal Earth, but his present would destroy much of the arm of the Mily Way Galaxy, So he turns his powers inward and creates a new human shell for himself, and returned to Primary Earth and Paragon City about 5 years after he vanished. Day -3 of Live server. And he has to master the ability to release small amouts of his energies (Energy Melee) with release his concentration on maintaining his invulnerable body (Invulnerabilty). With his family dead or mission after the Rikti War, Fuzun help to rebuild Paragon City. Thus you have a god-level of power existing with the limits of the game world.
And as for his Praetorian counterpart Lord Fuzun, Lord Fuzun wound up in a similar dimension, but with no energy beings, he was left totally along for that period of time. He's stark raving mad. The only reason for rebuilding a body was to have some fun with his play thing:, the entire planet. When he goes bored, he'll just go find another play thing. And from an published MA arc I created, the reason for Fuzun and Lord Fuzun being rivals is Fuzun is using his abilities to make sure Lord Fuzun's energies stay bottled up. (i.e. no more powerful then any other thread on the planet). -
Quote:Given the apparent huge scope of Going Rogue, they probably will need a testing done then the usual free Issue updates. Going Rogue is the perfect vehicle for roll out new and updated tech. I think it's a good bet that new updates to the rendering engine are in the works. Testing for that sort of stuff they need a wide range of desktop computer to test this stuff out on. That scope of testing is way beyond their usual pool of free issue testers. Even if people don't actually leave feedback in the GR closed beta, the game client will provide information on why the game client crashes, and possibly other feedback paths.Yes, I'm sure they're looking really hard for people who are good testers in GR. If this is true, then every 60 month vet, every person who stays subbed for the time required, and every person that pre-orders the expansion is a 'good tester'.
.
But I imagine that the initial stages of Going Rogue close beta will be similar the free issue update beta. A small group of testing to begin with and then gradually expanding with more and biggest waves of testers. Although I suspect the first wave of closed beta testers might be all of hte usual suspects given how big it's going to be. -
They haven't said anything about when Going Rogue beta is starting. The Loyalty program is set to end on November 15. I very much doubt the beta will start before them. There is also the pre-orders the Going Rogue that will have to hit the store and have time for sales to happen. (No word as to when that will happen) So it looks like November 16 is the earliest that teh beta would start. Now with the time of year, we are looking at 7 weeks left in the way. End of November is Thankgiving, so that pretty much shot as a development week. And the end of December-January is Christmas and New Years. That pretty much 2 weeks that are blown. And starting a beta beore a holidy weeks seems silly, we are have roughly 3 good weeks of developer time. That doesn't seems to be good planning for something that big. So I'm going with GR beta starting in mid-January 2010.

Under Menu->Options->Controls (Tab) -> Mouse (section) -> Click to Move. Disable that setting. It's a tactical way of moving w/o having to steer and stop.
Stang though. Auto-Run should not be kicking in unless 'R' button is pressed. L+R Button will (should) move you to the spot you have targeted under the arrow. The R Key is bound to Auto-running. That is you will move forward until "R" is pressed again. Or you move backwards ('S' key). -
Basically for me is I want to know how things work. I'm the type to take something apart to see how it works. Although over the years I have hone the still of just observatopm and extrapolation. Meaning I can look at things and develop pretty good idea how something world under the hood without having to pop the hood (or the bonnet as some over the pond would say). I have a pretty good idea how the majpr systems of the game worlds w/o having seen any of their source code.
As to numbers themselves, I have obsessed over them some in the beginning. I took over a month to respec my tri-form Peacebringer to sqeeze every bit of performance out each slot. Being able to shave 10 slots out of a already tight build was possible by being obsessive (and having Common IO avaliable). But nowdays, I have a pretty feeling on how the numbers and game works w/out having to obsesses with them. And I'm an advocate of good enough performance. So I don't hve to spending 80% of my time to squeeze 20% more performance out of whatever.
And I'm a crazy nutty type who know that every little but extra helps. What do I mean by that, I'm a rogue that actually takes MM attacks even the AoE attacks. I know that I can't crank out tons of damage. But when added onto the AoE of my henchmen, it's comparable to what damage any other henchman is doing. And every little but helps which is the way that MMs are designed. Each henchmen isn't individually that powerful. But when combine, they are a force to be reckoned with with. -
Simple answer. You don't have enough RAM. Simple solution. Install more RAM. CoH will run much smoother with 2 GB of RAM. If your motherboard can support (and you can afford it) put in more.
The problem is that the system is swapping unused data from RAM to disk to free up space for data that is going to be used. The freeze period is the Operating System read and writing data from/to the system swap file. The bottle neck is that hard drives aren't as fast as RAM for reading and writing. -
Hey, even Some of us old fogies have gotten flustered looking for mission entrances in our newbie days. Today's high level newbies is not anything new by any measure. As some 5+ year verteran about Winterlord Babies some time. They'll give you an earful.

The problem with the low merit reward is because the TF can be blitzed in under 30 minutes. It's unforunate that your team had difficulties with the first mission, but it happens sometimes. My first try at a Redside Respec was an utter disaster. After 3 teamwipes we all decided we won't be able to complete it and quit the TF. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever completed any Treespec...

Shhhh! Don't give the devs any idea. The Titans now are are current bad enough. I don't want to worry about a "Death from Above" from a Zeus Titan.
-
Quote:That's utter nonsense. The dialog said you could not get the Ham-O which is correct. If you selected the merit reward and got nothing, /petition it. The GM's can check the game logs, and reward you merits the merits you earned. If something is ever not working as you think it should be, /petition it. The problem is mostly a bug. That's why GMs are there so. To address bug when they are able, and to remove obstacles that arise in game play due to Murphy having a field day. Or if it's a misunderstanding on you part, a GM (should) be able to enlighten you.I was the one who informed him of this. About two months ago, I did two consecutive raids as a level 45. I got the reward popup, and I was able to select the merits option from it, but both times the number of merits I had did not increase. Based on this experience, I strongly suspect that you won't get any merits unless you also qualify for the Hami-O reward (and I can't think of any reason why the system would award merits at 46 but not 45). I no longer have a 45-46 character to test this with, or I'd go for another raid on Wednesday to confirm this again.

The free months you get throw the Vet Time account off. I'm 2 or 3 months away from vet rewards according to my summary, but I have been playing on Live since Day -3.

I wouldn't assume that Tier == Waves. I think it more likely that the different Tiers are Priority Pools from which they'll pick from when filling wave. They'll start filling waves from Tier 1. Once Tier 1 is exhausted, they start pull from Tier 2, etc. I imagine that they'll start with a hundred or so, then a couple hundres more and slowly start to open things up until it's hundreds per wave.

Quote:I don't just one new zone. I want several more. Even with under used Hazard/Trial zones, they are places a hero can go for a change of scenery. The villain zones are getting a bit long in the tooth for me. I want some new stomping grounds for my Villains.Number of zones is not the same as amount of content. This game already has plenty of zones with little or no content.
I would be quite happy with one big zone, so long as it had lots of missions and stuff to do in it.
The devs has leaned a lot since the initial design of the game. The Hollows and especially Striga set the bar on the creation/revamping of zones. No more hazard/trail only zones. Any new zones will have have mixed city and hazard areas. Plenty of new contacts with lots of new story content which tell the story of the zone.
With the devs saying they heard the players wanting a new low level character experience from the ComicCon panel. I fully expect there to be 5 or 6 new zones along the lines of the CoV zones. 1 or 2 new starting zones, and then new zones for higher level band as the players level up. Except I see the level 35-50 bands to mix more than they in CoV. IF level 50 are getting some lateral leveling out of GR, we might have a level 50 ZOMG!!!111ithurtsomuch111mommy!!!! zone. -
I think your classifications are bit too stringent. Not all heroes are totally good. And not all villains are totally evil. There is a lot of grey area. From the CoH world, we have Manticore. He's been know to stretch or even break the rules, for the common good. From the DC world, we have Batman. Batman doesn't let the law not society's rules get in the way of Justice. Batman has files on his fellow heroes on their weakness in order to take them out, just in case. And the who Brother Eye thing from the latest Crisis series. And from Mavel we have Silver Sable. she's certainly a mercenary and has cross paths with heroes many times, but has requested heroes help as well. She doe have a very moral structure, but it's that of a noble of the State of Symkaria. And the another group from the Marvel Universe, Heroes for Hire. A set of heroes truing to run a business to make money. A set of mercanaries from their appearance. But they are a group of heroes, which will do the right thing then the situation calls for it. Like getting hired by a boy searching for his mother, and paying with a jar of coin which is all the money the boy has.

The Praetorian zones will be limited access just like CoV was when first introduced. If you don't have the expansion, the characters on that account, can't enter the zones.
-
You forgot Toad Suck (rhymes with duck), AR. How could anyone forget Toad Suck?
-
Now's a good time to do it. It's Double XP week-end. Start a few new character to make the low levels go a bit faster. Or work on getting towards the magical level of 22. It's a plateau in which you get had a change to get Stamina (which a lot of players like to get) and getting access to Single Origin enhancers. SO Enhancers giving you that next boost in power which make's playing a lot more fun.

Manticore and Ghost Widow are switching sides in issue 17? Is that even possible?
[/ QUOTE ]
It might be possible, but I think it's more likely that the Praetorian version of Manticore is a villain and the Praetorian version of Ghost Widow is a hero.
[/ QUOTE ]
listen to what they said about the characters. To paraphrase "Not all good character are completely good, and not all bad character are completely bad."
We know that Manticore push the things to the edge in order to get things done. WE also know that he's created Wyvern. An organization that's know to run in the legal grey areas as well.
Lord Recluse may be leading Arachnos, but Ghost Widow's loyalties aren't necessarily to Recluse himself. Ghost Widow's anchor is Arachnos itself. When Recluse get's to be too reckless and starts to engander Arachnos, Ghost Widow may act to preserve Arachnos. GW may even ally with Paragon City heroes. -

Really? So there isn't going to be a new AT (Rogue), just two new powersets? I had heard rumors of both but didn't know it had been confirmed. After reading the info about Desdemona, I wonder if this new demon summoning will have some drawbacks, like if you summon too many or run out of end, your own pets can attack you as well. Interesting, very interesting.
[/ QUOTE ]
We don't know anything for sure outeside of what they have released. But I beleive the expansion would be a perfect mechanism for creating the Spy AT. -
I like to create whole characters, so the power sets, character name, and origin story have to click for me or they get deleted. I don't like to duplicate power sets so I tend to have a mix of ATs with one exception: Masterminds. Masterminds are particularly fun for me to play as they are a challenge to play. They have complexities and nuances that other a single character doesn't have. That really appeals to my analytic mind.
But the breakdown which was kinda of surprising to me:
(Active Roster)
1 Warshade
1 Peacebringer
1 Dominator
2 Corrupters
2 Blasters
2 Tankers
3 Defenders
4 SoA (1 for each Branch)
5 Scrappers
6 Masterminds
I have many other characters spread here and there, but they were mostly proof of concept characters or "when Justice is down" character. -

-7% Damage to the enemies affected. Against a +0 minion, therefore, this equates directly to 7% Resistance, even at the cap. However, that will go down as you increase the level of the enemy.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not quite. A target's Damage Resistance will resist a Damage Debuff. Itn seems nonsensical, but if you consider the game mechanic it does, make sense. -
/show will work to open a window as well. I use it inlieu of /windowshow

It's always a server side issue. All of the Patron's minions are zone spawns like the routine NPC critter spawns. They will only spawn if some player entity is near the area. And sometimes for whatever reason they won't spawn if players are near. And FWIW, the patrons and other contacts are aways present as they are clickies. Yes, they are just objects who's model just happens to be an NPC. Thats also the reason they don't attack enemy game critters.
