It has been a few years, I heard villains can become heros

I heard there is story line where a villain character can go over to the hero side. Is this true? If so, where do you begin and what level do you have to be? I have a few villain characters, but I really like the "hero side" much more then the villain side.

They can't... Yet.

The new expansion coming out, Going Rogue, is touting the option to switch sides- heroes can go bad, villains can go good. However, we don't know the specifics yet. Limited information on it has been released, we're not even sure when it's coming out. Presumably it'll be out in time to compete with Champions Online.

Oh, I thought this was supposed to have been in years ago. Well anyway, they do not have long to do it if they want it out before CO comes out. Is it supposed to be with this new issue, I16?

I think the word we use is "soon".

Pretty exciting stuff if you ask me. I can't wait to do some "crossing over".

Sort of.

Going Rogue is a boxed expansion set, the first one this game's had in years. It'll probably be released alongside I16, and the data for it will be in the same download for convenience purposes. Going Rogue will, from what we know, include several new zones, apparently some exclusive powersets (Dual Pistols, a blast set for Blasters, Corruptors and Defenders, and Demon Summoning, a new pet set for Masterminds).

Don't ask me why it took so long- but the fact that until relatively recently the dev team consisted of 15 people might have something to do with it. With the formation of Paragon Studios and a massive injection of funding and manpower earlier this year, suddenly the devs have a lot more time, money and resources to put into making the game bigger and better, and finally getting around to doing all those things we've been asking for all this time.

No.

I16 will most definately be released before Going Rogue is, and they announced on the website that the beta testing will be after November sometime.

Besides that if people choose to play CO rather than GR and not crosing over their previously made characters which they've spent a while playing then that's their choice i guess. But i think that I16 was their trump card for CO.

And in my opinion. DCUO > CO. =)

Oh and their's quite alot on both I16 and GR on the forum already so try using the search button and stuff.

The devs have stated the I16 is not going rogue. Going Rogue is a ways out still. Hopefully by the end of the year, but there has been no beta for it yet.

They might be targeting I17ish.

As has been stated, I16 is definitely coming out very, very, very soon. I expect GR's concurrent issue release to be, at the very least, I17.

Yeah your information on this is very, very old. Years ago when the Devs first hinted at allowing Crossovers I think they mentioned they were going to implement it like a very hard TF/SF that you'd have to complete. As a "reward" for completing it you'd be allowed to switch sides in some form or fashion.

Now that this whole thing has been reorganized under the Going Rogue expansion it's hard to say exactly what they will require people to do. There still might be a series of steps, but what they might be no one knows yet.

Champions releases in three weeks, and Beta for GR is set to start "Later this year" last I read, it won't be out in time for that.

As much as I'm looking forward to it, honestly, I wouldn't expect it until January or February at the earliest. Christmas is pushing it. Given the loyalty program dates, I'd expect Closed Beta to start mid-late October for the 60 month vets The invites for the Aug. 15th - Nov. 15th loyal people to come out around the 20th - 25th of November, once they datamine who was active during that period.

If the expansion is anywhere near as big as a lot of people are expecting, those 2 and a half months aren't going to be enough to get it out by Christmas. Hell, even late January early February is pushing it at that point.

I'm sure they'd love to be able to have Going Rogue on the shelves in time for the holiday shopping season. But I agree that'd probably take a miracle of some kind (no pun intended).

Predicting GR to go live around the first of February is probably a reasonable estimate at this point based on what we know about the loyalty program that's been announced. If we can assume they'll handle this expansion like they handled CoV then we can expect I17 to coincide with the release of GR the same way I6 was linked to CoV.

I'm just impressed with everything our NCSoft Overlords have been able to get put into the game since they got the Cryptic monkey off of our dev teams backs.

Issue 16 is not related to Going Rogue in any way. They are completely separate. Issue 17 MAY be the issue that coincides with the release of Going Rogue, but nothing official has indicated that for sure.

The loyalty rewards program they announced a few weeks ago (the program that gives you Going Rogue beta access) is for players who have a full subscription through a point in November. The people who get into that are getting into the second 'wave' of closed beta testing. First 'wave' are the 5+ year vets. The second 'wave' of closed beta testing therefore can't start until after that point in November.

Its plausible that earliest beta testing could start for the first 'wave' in late October or early November. But there hasn't been an official date stated. Closed beta, for all we know, may not start until 2011 (highly doubtful that that is the case, but still possible). My guess, which is pure speculation, is that we'll finish issue 16 testing in early/mid September. Have about a month/month-and-a-half of updates and patches and bug-fixes for that, then maybe sometime in late November or early December we'll see Going Rogue start hitting the test server for beta testing, to be released in the first quarter of 2010, maybe early second quarter. Just depends on how testing goes and how big it actually is.

They haven't said anything about when Going Rogue beta is starting. The Loyalty program is set to end on November 15. I very much doubt the beta will start before them. There is also the pre-orders the Going Rogue that will have to hit the store and have time for sales to happen. (No word as to when that will happen) So it looks like November 16 is the earliest that teh beta would start. Now with the time of year, we are looking at 7 weeks left in the way. End of November is Thankgiving, so that pretty much shot as a development week. And the end of December-January is Christmas and New Years. That pretty much 2 weeks that are blown. And starting a beta beore a holidy weeks seems silly, we are have roughly 3 good weeks of developer time. That doesn't seems to be good planning for something that big. So I'm going with GR beta starting in mid-January 2010.
