Scrappers. I'ma get mah stabby on. I like VEATs for similar reasons.

My suspicion is that the exploitation would stop in a heartbeat if the legal hurdles could be overcome and Paragon Studios could simply announce in Admin Chat across all servers, @Global Name was banned for exploiting AE: good bye. -
Quote:I want to reiterate that my clone had two defensive powersets. Or, in in-game terms, my clone was too stupid to swing its arms. It could walk... and that was it.Increasingly irritated with the people that are referencing helpful clones.
Not really. More like looking at my Dog-flavored gumball why everyone else got "Vanilla", "Strawberry", and "Concentrated taste-bud oriented summation of what your first time would have been like if it was with that really hot person from chemistry class".
While, yeah, I laughed at it, I laugh at Johnny Knoxville, too, for basically the same reason. If I weren't laughing, I'd have to recognize how utterly pathetic it was. -
I flashback'd the arcs last night on my Night Widow. My flawed clone was Invulnerability, and some other defensive set. Willpower, I think. She... stood around. It was stupidly funny.
Fighting all eight of myself took the close to half an hour, I think. Why? Because Smoke Grenade has a minute duration, and I got slammed with multiple applications. Also, Elude lasts way too long.
Still, I managed to solo myself, eight times over. I died twice at the get-go, but I didn't manage to score a kill either time, so it still counts, right? -
So, I flipped through a guide or two, but honestly, I've never played a Defender before, and I don't really know what I should be slotting for. So, please, tear this build down, tell me what I did right, and tell me what I should be doing differently.
Thanks.

Quote:I've got a /Regen build floating around that's maybe, maybe 200 million, if you're buying it nao! Otherwise, it's probably somewhere between 100 million and 150.And you're right, you can't, at all, build for positional cheap...oh, except Werner's demon magic up there. Bad craziness.
Is it softcapped? No. Does it achieve anything special at low levels? No. But the average player can build it without too much trouble, and that's something that makes me happy inside. -

Quote:Word. I'd enjoy playing another City of Heroes game, sure, but only if I was playing it. If it wasn't my characters, my powers, and my way of playing, I really don't see much value. The Freedom Phalanx don't interest me terribly, except as they interact with my characters. So DCUO then? (in before GG gets here and says it).
Personally I hate the idea of not playing my own unique little snowflake in an MMO.
On the other hand, can you imagine what a Mass Effect-style game in the CoX world would be like? And, maybe, a combat system from Ninja Gaiden? Yeah, that I'd play. I'd play that a lot. -
Quote:That's circular logic. But isn't that still the same? Like a convention is a cliche, because if it's been used enough to become a convention, then it must have been oversued?
But, more to the point, just because something is used does not make it overused.
Or, since the words 'trope' and 'convention' seem to be giving you a bit of a hiccup, let's put this in terms of cliches. Merriam Webster defines a cliche as
1 : a trite phrase or expression; also : the idea expressed by it
2 : a hackneyed theme, characterization, or situation
3 : something (as a menu item) that has become overly familiar or commonplace
Tropes, on the other hand, are just things multiple people have used. So, yes, "multiple people" can be a such a staggeringly high number that everyone and their child has seen the trope before in numerous permutations. If it's gotten to a point past expectancy, and is now thoroughly mocked, it's probably a cliche. Though, as noted previously, there is no definite line. We can only look at these things retrospectively and call them one or the other.
Another thought to keep in mind, is how broad and general some tropes can be. A guy walking around in black leather and fighting with a pair of katanas is completely cliched. But the concept of people fighting, in and of itself, is simply a trope, and is, I think, far too general to become trite and overused. -
I have a teenaged mutant character who was kicked out of his house by his parents when they discovered his mutations, on account of being fundamentalist religious nutjobs. I'm not actually sure how the kid managed to be raised by fundamentalist religious nutjobs without turning into one himself. Foster care, maybe? Any ways, yeah, I've done that bit, too.
-
A cliche is something overused, trite, and expected. A trope is a convention or commonality between stories. So, a trope can easily become a cliche through overuse or misuse, but it is not inherently one, and it does not start as one.
-
Tropes are not cliches. lrn2read the home page, nwb.
In seriousness, I am an unabashed troper. I have been for a few years, now. And, yes, I'm a bit impressed by how many tropes City of Heroes has managed to touch on over the years.
Now, if any of you happen to read this before entering the site, I warn you. The siren song is difficult to resist, and we freely admit that troping might ruin your life.
But, it's also absolutely fascinating. -
As I recall, there was once something to the effect of a three-point criterion: Appearance, Name, Bio. If, for some reason, you were two out of three for a copyrighted character, you got generic'd.
Now, my memory's a pretty fickle thing, so take that with only half a grain of salt. Also, I seem to recall it being much harder to reverse a generic than it is to prevent one, so I'd err on the side of caution. -
I might be missing something, but was was so incredibly wonderful about I12? Yeah, Cimerora's cool, and yeah, the ITF is great fun/lewt/what have you, and yeah, the Midnight Club's a neat zone. VEATs are thoroughly awesome, and I'm aware that they threw in some new tech.
So, good issue, yes, but equal to the amount of stuff added from a paid issue? I'm not so sure.
Preemptive counter-argument: Comparing an issue to expansion is a poor comparison, true, but the metric of 'great issues come every six' only works if I6 is, in fact, treated as part of the expansion. Why? 'Cause all I6 added on its own ED and PvP zones. And some number tweaking, but the thrust of my point is ED was horrible, and nobody who's anybody PvP's, so I6 clearly needs all the great things CoV added to fall into line.
Note on the preemptive counter-argument: The comments about ED and PvP are completely facetious. I have nothing but respect for dedicated PvPers, and am perfectly aware that ED laid the groundworks for some important upgrades we received later. Like inventions. -
I...don't. I have no talent for writing someone who isn't in some way a reflection of myself. It's a bit of a problem for me, at times.

And Ms. Liberty ain't passionate, she's like a spoiled brat born with a silver spoon in her mouth, and acts all bitchy because of who her Mom & Grandpa are. She needs to be taken over someone's knee and put in her place....or tied up and flogged. Either way Quote:Her attitude in the comic wasn't the best in the world. Again, she needs a flogging.
Did either of you see the February FanArt Contest submissions? You, ah, might wanna check 'em out. -

Quote:I don't suppose I can get Bug Hunter from that?[font=Rockwell][color=#FFFFAA]It's entirely possible that the icon pixelation could have been caused by some corruption in compressing some of the icon texture files.
I will look at that when I get home from work today. If I need to, I can provide a non-compressed .zip file of the icons. Thanks for the heads-up on that. -
Combat Jumping and Super Jump aren't icons, they're pixelated blocks, for me. Has anyone else had this problem?

Quote:I completed that one, once, on an eight man team. The leader was far more concerned with maintaining group dynamics than he was finding hostages, and so with twenty minutes left, we still had a third of the hostages to find. I and one other teammate stealthed around the map and managed to find the last four. Our final hostage was found with less than a minute on the clock, and saved in the single digits of seconds left. God, I hate that mission. No, the most evil thing you get to do (perhaps in the entire game) is Save the Oranbegans from the Malta Group.
Malta in the narrow hallways of a ridiculously large Oranbegan map. And somehow you're supposed to look in every nook and cranny to free 12 hostages. Oh and it's timed.
Do it with a full team of eight. I dare ya.I double dare ya.

Not terribly. Webnade is an immobilize, which is about as soft a control can be without being actual soft control. Shuriken's a mediocre ranged attack for an AT with low ranged modifiers. You're much better served taking powers that improve survivability, unless it's a concept power.

Quote:Poor soloing power, which is what Sam did state, does not equal underpowered. However, it seems that a certain amount of snark is being treated as arguments, which seems less than helpful. That's pretty much what I thought when you posted the "vs Scrappers" thing. In summary:
* You said DP is bad at soloing
* I said I have no issues soloing with lethal ammo
* You said "I guess I'm used to fire/archery"
* Someone said fire/archery are extremely powerful
* You said "Let's compare DP to Scappers then"
So what exactly WERE you going for, then? I'm curious now. -
