My name is Noble Intent. I have but one request for the Praetorian Government. Come. Break me down.
I will be waiting.

Quote:Kant says no. Mills says yes. Aristotle... won't care, because it doesn't tell you enough about the person to make a serious claim.Question: can killing for fun be considered moral if the person really deserved it?
(Disclaimer: This is not a question stemming from my own beliefs, it is designed to get people talking).
Personally, as a subscriber to utilitarianism, though not the greatest happiness principle, if a person merits death, the fact that someone enjoyed killing them is irrelevant to the fact that they committed a good deed.
However, a facet of their character is, and always will be, that they enjoyed killing someone, which while not inherently morally good or bad, is something they should definitely examine critically. -
Eh. They corroborate implications given in-game. It may be ret-conned out, but I think leaving the implications there will be more interesting. Emperor Cole's trying to do the right thing by folks, despite really being a scumbag has some fascinating torque to it, and really hammers home the duology of good for the individual versus good for the society.

Quote:...Except that the comic books are canon, and they firmly establish that Domi is Ms. Liberty's Praetorian counterpart, and all but cement her other...ah...roles in canon, too.I'd be surprised if she wasn't given her own whip-based powers.
But to imply there's this incestuous grandfather/granddaughter thing going on is something I'd imagine the devs would want to steer as far away from as possible.
My solution? Give Praetorian 'Ms. Liberty' a whole new alter ego, and put Dominatrix into the form of someone else... Mirror Spirit?
In fact, to me, Mirror Spirit seems pretty fitting; Marcus Cole goes to fight in the Korean War and gets entangled with a woman. When they get back to the States, they do whatever it is Emporers and women do, and she becomes Dominatrix!
Of course, the new Praetorian version of Ms. Liberty may or may not care that grandaddy is moving on from grandma... Who I can assume died somewhat long ago (and considering she died at 76, and Marcus is still young and spry, I can't imagine the 'good times' lasted as long, either.)
Of course, I'm just throwing things out, now. -

A thought that I think should be introduced here, and forgive me if I simply missed it earlier in the thread, is the differentiation between morality and justification.
Simply put, an action can have a reason for its performance, and still be immoral, just as an unjustified action can be morally correct. The fact that Emperor Cole can point out the logic behind what he has done does not make it the "right" course of action, merely the one he chose.
Of course, this entire argument is fairly significantly confounded by utilitarian versus deontological views. Y'all really need to decide whether intentions or consequences determine the morality of an action before you begin arguing further. Otherwise, you'll find you hold some rather contradictory positions. -
That guy on some overlooking rooftop with a highpowered rifle and a whole lot of ammo.
What? That's how it should be played. -
Quote:True, but as you've pointed out, Natural merely refers to baseline ability. It does not presuppose humanity on top of that.
Normally I avoid the Natural Origin because really, RP wise a regular human isn't going to kick as much *** as the game play allows
Batman kicking Superman isn't going to beat Superman. :P
Myself, I tend to make Magic-origin characters, because I don't like the concept of being "powerless" if one were without that special suit, or that crazy weapon, or whatever.
Which is more than a little funny, I think, because my highest Magic character isn't out of the teens, yet. My two level 50 characters are Mutant and Science, and my next-highest is Natural. -
Quote:You raise a good point, but the Praetorian dopplegangers are flawed, enough, I think, that attempting to retcon them into more ambiguously evil people will bear horrible inconsistencies. Emperor Cole is a hard man trying to do the right thing, but may have accidentally taken things a step too far, but who also happens to sleep with his granddaughter? No, that doesn't wash, for me.This is why we shouldn't look too hard at the current Praetorian content for clues as to what's coming in GR.
Also, as they already have one very obvious "dark lord" type leader (Recluse) ruling over a run down and dirty country (Rogue Isles), they probably wanted to add more variety by making the new version of Tyrant less openly evil, and his domain less obviously dark and horrible - which also fits in with the idea of "neutral" gameplay, shades of gray, and things being not what they seem.
If they'd gone with the ruined earth style of the current Praetorians, and Tyrant as an openly evil ruler, then Praetoria would have come accross as way too similar to the Rogue Isles, I think - and that'd make the setting less flexible for neutrals and potential Heroes. -

Could you please walk me through the reason behind those bajillion temp powers you've got in your alternate trays?

Some of learned them lessons from ducking orcs in GFay and Crushbone, but I don't think any of us were the "vets" in question, hmm?

Uh... My sarcasmometer's in the shop this week. Is he being serious right here, or is this entire thread tongue-in-cheek?

I'm curious what the thoughts are on the etiquette involved with a certain subset of the forums goers here who can solo team-sized mobs by themselves. I know the Scrapper forums typically consider it perfectly fair game to strike off on their own and kill things willy-nilly, but it seems to me at times that a team might need the Scrapper helping them more than the Scrapper needs to maximize bodies per second.

I got a brand spankin' new BS/Nin stalker from 1 to 18. I'm not sure if I'll continue playing him, 'cause I'm not sure if he's fun, yet. But, I also got my 34 Night Widow to level 40, and I loved every second of it.

Heh. "Grass grows, birds fly, sun shines, and brutha, I hurt people."

Ya know, some might say this is photographic proof that you've seem something previously thought to be impossible. Me? I'm going to call it photographic proof that you let attacks sit next to toggles on your trays.
Gawd, what are you, some kind of newb? -
So, uh, back to the subject of Ghost Widow vs. Steel Mantis...
Can I have both? At the same time? -
Badges count defeats, not levels. Defeating a bunch of Banished Pantheon Masks at level 45 is a lot easier than defeating them at level 23.
