I very much disagree. A sonic blaster isn't all that far behind a non-domination mind dominator from a personal survivability standpoint. It is lower sure, but you also do a lot more damage depending on secondary.

The same thing that lets a mind dom cake walk solo content lets a sonic blaster do the same. And while dominate is better than screech, it isn't that much better at eliminating single targets

    AV/GM soloing

2 players > 1. Not really seeing a difference between veng bot and an emp casting fortitude on you.

You can do w/e you want, but rad/son is fully capable of taking out almost any single target in the game without outside assistance provide you have a strong build and pilot it well.
  3. What are those things down toward the bottom right corner of the screen?
  4. You've spent a lot of money, but I don't think it is as effective as it could be.
Some things I noticed right away:
-spec wounds - use decimation instead of entropic
-snowstorm - slot for end reduction, the proc does next to nothing
    -get a miracle into health
-PA is better slotted 4 piece expedient (skip dam/end and the proc), 2 piece soulbound (dam/rech, proc)
-Freezing rain needs recharge. The damage procs are fairly lame (-res proc is great). You want to enhance it for rech and endurance. Aim for a recharge of like 18 seconds. It is worth it.
-Replace proc in hurricane with rech/end from the set
-nado does a lot of damage against things that stay around.
-Last time I used apoc set in LS the proc did damage to you as well. I dunno if it was ever fixed. As to whether apoc is better in LS or spec, it just depends on how you are using the toon and what content you are facing. You'll need to have double LS going for it to be better against single targets. And you need to be decent at packing spawns with hurricane for it to be useful for the aoe damage.
-Mind over body needs real slotting if you plan to actually use it.
-Make sure to get your accolades.

I know you said you weren't focusing on recovery much, but your toon will need a respirator after pretty much every spawn.

My college team was sponsored by powerade, but the only sent us Purple flavor. It results in some disturbingly green remains. 15 guys all hooting and hollering about their green craps for nearly a month straight. Oh to be young again.

All you have to do to get that mitigation is stack Shiver. 2 Applications will get entire spawns down to the -rech cap.
Yes and no. Over enough time it approaches a number similar to 75% resistance, but fights never last that long, or the fights that do, the target has resistance to the effect.

It does nothing against the first string of attacks, which is generally all the time it takes to resolve a fight for a blaster be it their death or your own. It has moderate use against luts and high use against bosses imo provided you aren't just hard mezzing them to begin with.

I actually find the movement slow to be of more importance than the -rech. It easily keeps things at range and sets up easy use of rain of fire. Things just don't live long enough for the -rech to play a huge role, at least rarely to the point you are stacking the power.

Assuming you are 1 insp from softcap that gives you 20 mins of softcapped def. That will easily cover most missions. You should be able to get like 5 paper missions out of that load. Contacts don't even have to like you to sell purples, so attaining them between missions takes very little time.

If you did an analysis of the time investment required to fill up every 20 mins vs how long you have to sit at the market buying/crafting to hit softcap you could probably play for a long time before it made sense from a time standpoint to invest in the IO's.

Capacity plays a factor in the pre 40 game for sure, but most people don't push for softcap that early. It also plays a factor in high end content like RSF, but a "cheap and easy" build probably isn't gung ho for such tasks anyway.

But lets be honest, you probably aren't softcapping for $50M, it is likely a lot more than that, and you probably don't need to be softcapped the entire time you are playing, which makes insp an even better route to take.

FWIW, I'm not really being serious, but it is actually pretty true.

  10. cheapest way is purple insp. They cost 50inf and last 60 seconds.
If you play for an hr a day that ends up costing 21,000 inf per week. If it cost you $50M to hit softcap you could have played for 45 years using inspirations.

Heck even if you had no defense to work off of and had to use 4 insp at a time and played 5hrs a day and it still only cost you $50M to hit softcap you could play for 2.29 years before you broke even.

I get the feeling that isn't the answer you are looking for though.
  11. you are complaining about a kin doing a decent job of applying sb? I'll give it to you because it's new at least.
  12. conversely, bring a cold controller (or two) and let whoever wants to stand in melee stand in melee as her heal becomes pathetic.
  13. sonic/x where x = ice, dev, or em

aoe sleeping every spawn > ice blast
the stacking stuns of dev and em with screech handles bosses as well as stacking holds found in ice/x

sonic is so good people don't even talk about shockwave, which is one of the best aoe mitigation powers blasters have.

Maybe, maybe not. It probably falls within acceptable performance from the dev's point of view. It could be improved sure, but I wouldn't say it is a high priority compared to other powerset imbalances both positive and negative in nature.

The situation was even worse when EM used to be faster. It did everything MA does except waaaaaay better. It still does, but the flow of the set is terrible now so I guess that balances things out a bit.

Oh I know. I've conducted some pretty in depth analysis of sonic, mostly for defs/corrs mind you, but I have looked at blasters too.

I love the set for defs, like it for corrs, and find it unsatisfactory for blasters. The reason I dislike it for blasters isn't a dps one because as I mentioned (and you have followed up on) you can produce decent dps with just the t1 and 2, and if you throw in a secondary immob it is fine. If you mix in a high dpa melee attack it is very impressive.

I dislike it because I don't like playing a blaster that can't put things down quickly from range when that ability needs to be called upon (similar reason I don't play AR, or Dual Pistols on a blaster). That's a demand I don't put on my corrs/defs for the most part and as a result I deem sonic as excellent for them. Additionally, the higher debuff modifiers and extra mitigation generated from the debuff set I pair with it certainly helps those two AT's to get past the long-ish root times when compared to my favorite blast set - fire.

edit: that said, I'm looking at a buzzsaw sonic/em that chains shriek>scream>energy punch>repeat with lots of procs. The dps is actually really high and the endurance cost is quite low which leaves a lot of room in the build to push toward softcap s/l and get the necessary rech.
  16. I'm going to guess that the lowest you can get it down to is 10.8% chance to hit vs lvl 53 version.

MA is fine in the sense that if you choose it you can kill things and look good while doing it.

From a pure numbers perspective DM is better in virtually every way including damage, damage type, utility, and secondary effects.
  18. hmm 1 month and access to a booster pack (I don't have cyborg) with the ease of steam for $10..not a bad idea
  19. I found I have little use for caltrops on my fire/traps/mace.

If it had a bit more range and a bigger aoe I'd feel differently.
  20. Do you want to kick things or punch things. Assuming of course you use the original animations for MA.

Secondly, do you want to experience impacted bowels, or do you want to experience impacted bowels and expel a skull of death when they release?

  22. I seriously doubt that EC will get a damage increase. there is always a 1% chance though.

An animation trimming though is reasonable and a realistic expectation. Splash damage added would be very nice. They would probably use a slightly smaller radius than thuderstrike, assuming they don't just resort to ctrl-c for the change.

If the set is determined to be under-performing by Castle (player analysis ranges from useless to moderately useful depending on who is appealing to him) then there is no reason to expect any "trade offs" for buffs received.
  23. Because shout is so slow. The -res works extremely well with /em and /elecs big hits, but personally I can't play a blaster that doesn't have a decent t3 ranged heavy hitter cause you can't always get in and punch things safely. The damage without shout is ok, but feels lower than it actually is because scream is dot.

If it had a decent t3 it would be my favorite blaster set because of the very high mitigation it has.
  24. I could see a non-debuffer killing the KR version of Paladin, I think it only has like 5800hp, so regens like 30 hp/sec. Yes your damage scales while fighting it, but given that my ill/cold killed it in like 2.5min I could see a scrapper taking it out. The cut off point is probably around Babbage as higher lvl GMs just have too high regen rate. So probably the GM's that occur at lvl 20-25+ aren't happening.
