So what is the cheapest and easiest way to softcap SR?

I'm not too experienced on invention sets, so I was wondering what is the easiest, most straight forward, and cheapest way to softcap SR to all positions.

Thanks for the help.

I'd have to double-check and I'm too lazy to do so at the moment, but I believe that a Steadfast Protection +3% defense unique, along with Weave, Combat Jumping, Hide's suppressed levels of defense, and ED-capped SO-slotting in all of your defense powers, will put you right at 45% defense to all positions with SR.

Of course, going with more than 1 IO will let you do it on a looser build. But that's probably the cheapest and easiest.

Take fighting pool. Get tough and weave.
Take Manuevers
Buy the Steadfast Res/Def IO, slot it in tough
Grab either Combat Jumping or Hover.

That all by itself should get you pretty close.

If you want to do it via IO sets, slot your melee attacks for the positional defensive bonuses. The sets that give them:

Touch of Death - Melee for 6 slotted
Mako's Bite - Range for 6 slotted
Scirocco's Dervish (PBAoE) - AoE for 5 slotted
Obliteration (PBAoE) - Melee for 6 slotted

Also ranged attacks can take Thunderstrikes which gives ranged defense with the 4th and 6th slots. Holds and stuns also have sets that give you positional defense bonuses.

Mix and match those until you get 45%+ on each position.

Easiest is prolly take all SR powers but Quickness and Elude, tough and weave, maneuvers, stealth, and slot BU with Guassians set.

I would not recommend that, because it will most likely leave other parts of your toon lacking, but if all you care about is soft cap, I would try that.

In order for me to be able to help you more, I would like to ask 3 things.

What is your primary.
What is your budget.
What is this intended for. PvE or PvP or mostly PvE with a mingling of PvP

Your character does not have capped defense. Depending on your AT the cap is between 175% - 225%. Your defense is not teal in the combat window, it can go higher. STOP SAYING IT IS CAPPED! The correct term is Soft Cap.

I'm feeling a little bit less lazy now, so I suppose I'll run through the math.

3 even-level defense SOs: 56% after ED-capping, which when added to the base = 1.56 * initial number to get final defense.

SR powers
Melee: Focused Fighting + Dodge = base of 13.875% + 5.625%, total of 19.5% defense
Ranged: same number, different powers (Focused Senses and Agile)
AoE: Lucky doesn't exist, so you have Evasion - but Stalker Evasion is base 21.375%.

Hide, after suppression, is 1.875% defense to all.

Adding these up, we get base numbers of 21.375% for melee and ranged, and 23.25% for AoE, just from SR. Enhanced these become 33.345% and 36.27.

Combat Jumping (base of 1.875% defense to all), slotted for defense, is 2.925%. Weave (3.75%) becomes 5.85%.

33.345% + 2.925% + 5.85% = 42.12%. That's for melee and ranged; AoE is 45.045.

Add in a single Steadfast Protection +3% defense IO in Tough and you're at 45.12% and 48.045%.

Yes, it's a stupidly tight build, but Combat Jumping is lighter on endurance than running Maneuvers and/or Stealth and goes the same depth into a power pool, and while the Steadfast unique may sell for a fair amount on the market it's ridiculously easy to get with bronze ticket rolls (which is why I have 4 or 5 sitting in base storage).

90% PvE.

My budget is about 75 million or so.

I am currently leveling up 2 stalkers: DM/SR and MA/SR.

Combat Jumping, Weave, put the Steadfast unique in Tough and six slot Build Up with Gaussian's. It should leave plenty of room to pick up all the other powers you'd want in your build.

cheapest way is purple insp. They cost 50inf and last 60 seconds.
If you play for an hr a day that ends up costing 21,000 inf per week. If it cost you $50M to hit softcap you could have played for 45 years using inspirations.

Heck even if you had no defense to work off of and had to use 4 insp at a time and played 5hrs a day and it still only cost you $50M to hit softcap you could play for 2.29 years before you broke even.

I get the feeling that isn't the answer you are looking for though.

Problem with purple insps isn't cost, it's capacity. It doesn't matter how cheap they are when you can only hold such a limited number of them.

Assuming you are 1 insp from softcap that gives you 20 mins of softcapped def. That will easily cover most missions. You should be able to get like 5 paper missions out of that load. Contacts don't even have to like you to sell purples, so attaining them between missions takes very little time.

If you did an analysis of the time investment required to fill up every 20 mins vs how long you have to sit at the market buying/crafting to hit softcap you could probably play for a long time before it made sense from a time standpoint to invest in the IO's.

Capacity plays a factor in the pre 40 game for sure, but most people don't push for softcap that early. It also plays a factor in high end content like RSF, but a "cheap and easy" build probably isn't gung ho for such tasks anyway.

But lets be honest, you probably aren't softcapping for $50M, it is likely a lot more than that, and you probably don't need to be softcapped the entire time you are playing, which makes insp an even better route to take.

FWIW, I'm not really being serious, but it is actually pretty true.

I will let you try to figure out an MA build. I personally don't think this is a very expensive build. I usually hoard my merits I get from soloing story arcs and buy myself a numina proc and Miracle Proc, as well as anything else I might need.
