Caltrops or rain of fire?

I'd like both but I don't want to drop any other powers. This build is softcapped to S/L/E and Ranged.

Originally I had caltrops in the build but Rain of Fire will do more damage with a slightly longer recharge.

I could drop Inferno but what kind of corrupter would I be without a nuke?

Thoughts? Advice?

This is is just my personal opinion, but I would rather drop Inferno in order to get both Caltrops and Rain of Fire. In fact, you should get Rain of Fire sooner. That's a massive AoE attack and should be a bread-an-butter opener for most engagements. I'm not a fan of nukes, as I hate being left too vulnerable for any length of time. Plus, nukes tend to be a last ditch all-or-nothing power. It will easily drop mobs that I can easily take on without the nuke in the first place, and for higher-conned mobs it will be do or die. I usually don't like those odds, but to each her own.

If you don't want to get rid of Inferno, then get rid of Flares. It's a low damaging attack, and gets less return as you level higher. Get Fire Blast at 1st level, and work in both Caltrops and Rain of Fire. Use Caltrops to slow down the mobs from running far and then unleash Rain of Fire to bring down the pain. Rain of Fire works best with any kind of AoE Immobilize or Slow power, since you can keep the targets contained for the maximum number of ticks of damage. Caltrops is that kind of power, so it would be a waste to neglect using both powers together.

I agree with Spider. You probably want both Caltrops and RoF. Either by itself is not so useful. Together they do great.

I've never been a fan of nukes. I'd rather have a series of powers that I can use to great effect over and over than a single power that I can only use once every few fights that also drains my endurance.

lol, thanks for the replies. I dropped flares and I think I like it. He's level 45 now so I've already missed the mark and don't know just how beautiful caltrops + rain of fire are together but I'll play around with it later.

I took Black Scorp's AOE immobilize to keep 'em in the traps longer. I'm still going to keep it because I think it'll still be useful.

I'm also going to keep the nuke for now but may drop it later. When I see a large group and they con white, yellow or orange (even red) I start drooling like a kid at a kid store.

I also don't use trip mine often enough to justify keeping it but I'll keep it for now as well because there are situations where it's useful. I also think once I am softcapped I'll have more opportunities to use them without being interrupted.

I find it to be the other way around at least in team play used as an opening attack, polish off whatever managed to survive, then continue on at a slightly quicker pace

My advice would be to drop the nuke.

I don't take the nukes on my Corrs because they're in a support role - and post nuke crash means they are unable to fulfill that function for a period.

+1 to drop Inferno, take both Caltrops and RoF.

I only take the nukes on Corrs who have a fast and effective way to regain end so they're only out of the fight very briefly. Heatloss, Transference, Power Sink, etc.

You could take Power Sink on a Fire/Traps but then you'd be missing out on Scorpion Shield. Not worth it, IMO.

2 small blues and you're back in business. And the nice thing about /traps is you have FFG for some protection.

Inferno stays for now. I'll have him all IO'd out by this weekend so I"ll have to see if I miss Flares too much.

So I got him all pimped out at lvl 47 and he's lots of fun to play. My attack chain is:

- Seeker drones
- Black Scorpion Web Grenade
- Web grenade on a boss (bosses)
- Build up
- Rain of Fire
- Fireball

Poison trap and Acid mortar find their way in there but I'm not using caltrops as much as I figured I would.

It's a very fun build to play. Next stop, trip mines.

I found I have little use for caltrops on my fire/traps/mace.

If it had a bit more range and a bigger aoe I'd feel differently.

Looking for feedback or just sharing the build?

Comments:

- After playing this, seeker drons is a must have.
- Time bomb is skippable.
- If you want a useful mule power go with Web Envelope and slot gravitational anchors.
- Having softcapped ranged defense for me is night and day. I was on an ice mistral and only had softcap to s/l -- boy oh boy could I feel the difference.

I think I'll stick with what I have for now. The +recharge I have in my build gives me the powers I need when I need 'em with no holes.

One thing I will be doing is slotting kick with the FFG +rechg. I never put it into my builds because it messes up the numbers.

You'll have to use kick for the proc to do anything. If you are using kick then something has gone horribly wrong.

Nice! When I create builds I sometimes get lost in the primary focus and don't do so well at looking outside the box so I appreciate it.
