Quote:In addition to a search icon I'd like to see a title under the characters name that simply says "Trial Account" That way we can see who is on a trial and offer help or answer questions if they need it.This has come a few times and I always get the impression a few of us like helping and teaming with Trials.
If I could offer an idea, besides being able to respond to tells, would be to add an icon in the search engine marking the Trial players. This way those of us forming teams can see they are trials and invite them without having to /tell, and show them around.
There are a lot of players that don't use the search feature to form teams so it might help them if they can spot trials in the crowd or passing by. -
Quote:I loved the old trials, but they did have good reasons for dropping the hammer on them, and with the exception of email spam the restrictions have been effective. You're probably right, I trialed WoW a long time ago and didn't remember it being bad at all, the only thing I recall was the gold limit. Just as when I first trialed this game in ~'05 it was great. The trial I ran of this game a few months back would have never inspired me to actually buy it, perhaps WoW's would be just as bad for me now.
At any rate, I feel bad for people trialing this game now. -
Countless:
Adjective
Definition - Too numerous to be counted.
Query: If as the OP states the number of newbs is so great that they cannot be counted, doesn't that invalidate his claim that the servers are "ghost towns"?
It seems to me if there are countless newbs they can easily team with each other. -
Quote:Oh really? Here areI've helped a number of trials form teams lately. Seems overly restrictive to me. I remember trialing this game a long time ago and getting up to 26 on my ma/regen scrapper and doing pretty much everything a "real" account would. I doubt I would have actually joined this game with the current implementation of the trial. I did actually run a trial account a few months ago leading up to i15, it feels considerably more restrictive than some of the trials I've done for other MMO's such as WoW.
WoW's trial account restrictions
Quote:A Trial Account allows access to World of Warcraft for 10 or 14 days. These are offered to allow our prospective customers time to experience the game purchasing a retail copy
How do I get a Trial Account?
- Being recruited by a friend.
- Trial keys included in other Blizzard Products.
- Purchasing a 14-day $1.99 Trial at select retailers.
- Limited offer at (website deleted)
The following restrictions are placed on all Classic Trial Accounts:
- A level cap of 20.
- A maximum of 10 gold.
- Trade skills are capped at 100 ranks.
- Inability to trade via the auction house, mailbox, or player-to-player.
- In-Game public chat channels will be unavailable.
- Characters will be unable to create or join existing guilds.
- Accounts will no longer be able to whisper other players unless they have been added to those players' friends lists or have received a whisper from them first.
- Characters will not be able to invite players into a party.
- Characters will not be able to join parties with other players above level 20.
- Voice Chat is disabled on trial accounts.
- Realms with login queues will give priority to customers with retail accounts.
- Will not be eligible for any Character Transfer service.
City of Heroes Trial account restrictions
Sorry but aside from being able to respond to tells/whispers they seem just as restrictive as ours if not more in some spots.Quote:Trial Accounts allow a player to take City of Heroes and/or City of Villains for a test run. They are free and last either 10 or 14 days, depending on the source of the Trial Account code. Up until Issue 12, a Trial Account was not limited in what it could do; as of Issue 12, there are several restrictions put in place. Most of these restrictions were placed due to tells and in-game email spam.
Restrictions
Trial Accounts cannot email other players
Trial Accounts may not level past 14
Trial Accounts can only have 50k influence
Trial Accounts may not join global channels
Trial Accounts can only speak in- /local
- /hc (the Help channel)
- /team
Trial Accounts may join teams, but not invite other players
Trial Accounts may not join SuperGroups.
Trial Accounts may not create Mission Architect arcs. They can not interface with the Architect Entertainment Stations. However, they can be invited onto a team that is running MA missions.
Sources
Trial Account codes are always available from the "Refer a Friend" option in a player's Master Account options. Each player may give out three of these at a time. They last ten days, and if the Trial Account is upgraded to a retail-code account, the person who originated the offer gets a month of free time added to the end of their subscription.
They are also available for 14 days anytime at the official free trial website.
Trial Accounts are also available from older NCsoft box sets. They come on small pieces of paper with a code on it. These last 14 days and do not give a free month to the owner of the box set if the account is upgraded to a retail-code account.
An additional source is websites offering Trial Account codes. These typically last either 14 or 10 days, though vastly more often 14. They do not give a free month to anyone if the account is upgraded to a retail-code account. -
Quote:Some good ideas there. There are intermediate solutions. For example, you could put a cooldown on group invites and tells (e.g., 5 minutes) and allow you to always respond to tells, but still forbid broadcasts. This would make using this for RMT ads ineffective, but still allow some basic communication functionality. You could also allow players to turn on an option to receive tells and group invites (off by default for non-trial accounts) so that trial account players who start together can invite each other to a team or that a vet who has helped a trial account player earlier to still receive tells from that player.
-
Quote:I don't think anyone wants the spam back however coming into a game like this and not being able to communicate really can turn away a new player. I know when I started here (my first ever mmo) I didn't know how to use the chat system and since it was beta there was no real place to get that info from (I think someone on the forums eventually told me I don't really remember how I found out). It can be very lonely.
Personally I support the trial account restrictions being modified in some way to allow those accounts a bit more ability to interact with other players.
Before the trial restrictions the chat channels were constantly being spammed. The RMTers were joining SG's and teams to spam people, and they even joined private chat channels to spam people there.
After the restrictions we only got the spam thru emails.
Now I don't mind letting trials respond to tells, that's a reasonable request. I just don't want to accidentally give the spammers tools that they can abuse. -

Quote:Oh yeah, this is C_L. No doubt about it. He keeps coming back, because he's an idiot and a glutton for punishment. He has no girlfriend, no life, probably no job so he's had to abandon the accounts he paid for, and is now getting huffy because he probably can't stand not having "49 fifties", any more.
Loser. No one plays WITH YOU. Because it's YOU. I'm not even interested in pulling my punches any more. Ocho - someone.... please, just perma ban his IP.
I made an homage to C_L when he got banned the first time.

Quote:Search isn't a good tool to find out how many people are online. A large portion of the playerbase use the hide feature to avoid people that spam RMT, PL requests, AE farms etc.Have you actually done a Search on each zone to see how many are where?
Are you going to try to follow any of the adviced given to you?
I mean c'mon. It sounds like you're standing in Atlas and nobody is inviting you when all you're doing is standing around. I don't know if that's what you're doing, but it sounds like it.
Get around and explore the City. There are hundreds of interesting things to see once you venture forth.
It's also September. The population always dips this time of year as people reschedule their lives around school starting.
Also we've had a minor dip while people try out their free 30 days of CO, or they participate in Aion's beta testing, I've even seen some CoH players trying out DDO now that it's free to play.
Nothing unusual has happened with the games population. There hasn't been a drop in subscriptions. -
Quote:will you guys can all be denial,i love to have what your all smoking, sense where living in diff realitys
"Yay, you love having huge lag spikes as you get near the black market/wentworths and a busy broadcast. Congrats. Enjoy Freedom. Some of us - many of which you will get replies from with this subject - like *low population* servers. If we *wanted* to be on Freedom, we'd *be* on Freedom."
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH, when was that post made 2004, about Freedom
HAHAHAHA i am on freedom, lag spikes near market, and busy broadcasts
O your funny, i have not seen One of these,
i have Seen none of this , its a ghost time during nite time
you guys are living in the past, , am glad how some of you have friends, but news players see ghost towns, and
ALL you people who wanted AE nerf, congrats,
you have Killed new players leveling,
and have the Balls, to say, Leave our game, their countless newbs left to riot in ghost towns with NO ONE ON to do missions with
read that again
new players can't find mission teams during anytime but prime time
wake up and smell the decay, i guest people just like being jerks and ********
also think very careful of my next words
if this game all about alts,
then why the hell would i want to make a alt, face ghost towns, and have to do the same old content, over and over by my self
AE made leveling Alts better, you cryed, whined and taken it away
i have no motive to make alts, its hard as hell just to get my main in groups, SENSE their no groups going on in the first place
god you people jus't don't get it
let players do whatever they want, if everyone wants to hang in AE, let them, all the jerks got their wish of AE death,
and now their no REAL player base of any great numbers to support people doing their missions, congrats, your stupid is killing the game
i cant fix stupid, you just have to learn the hard way, mark my words, if something is not done fast, the decay will only get faster and faster, to their none thing left but small hand full of you on each server
i guest i just keep on playin, looking for these groups "hiding all over the world", doing all the content, sense it seems, you think thats whats going on LMAO
AE pugs rocked, thanks for murdering it , and replacing it with...............
, a ghost town, you are all smart to think your helping this game by killing the pop and bashing people wanting Just to find a group
And now we see why he can't find any teams.
I hope you enjoy whatever game you end up going to.

Quote:Funniest damn ambush I ever saw was a couple years ago in Steel Canyon when what seemed like thirty odd DE around level 40 swarmed the Yellowline train station. They got into both rooms and the police drones returned to the bottom of the ramp. The all-time greatest ambush I have EVER, EVER seen was during a two-man mayhem mission in Skyway (running at the lowest level, well before I-16).
God only knows how the hell this happened, but as John and I were zooming around heading toward the bank, some 15-20 Longbow come POURING out of a pizza joint and just strafe us. I had just enough time to blurt out (IRL) to John, "WHAT THE-" as I get blown out of the sky, and his character turns around to see this horde of Longbow come swarming out the door of the pizza place.
It didn't help I was laughing so hard I couldn't remember how to use a wake.
It was like every Longbow ambush decided to hit us at once.
I MIGHT still have that demofile somewhere...

aka
Samuraiko/Dark_Respite
Broadcast was flooded with curses as hero's zoned into the ambush and died or went into the terminal to leave without realizing the DE were inside.
It took about ten minutes before some fifties showed up and cleaned up the ambush. -
Quote:When GR comes out, do you think a relaunch in S. Korea could be possible with the Koreans only needing to purchase the GR expansion to get access to all the game's content? The game has significantly evolved since it failed there.
I'm sorry but this seems like it would be better suited in general discussions or comic hero/villain culture. I just don't see a suggestion. -
Quote:We don't know how side-switching will work. But as it stands, you can currently simply make a hero if you don't want to play a villain, so I don't see why side-switching could be a problem.
The concern is because there are a lot of players that only play redside because that is the only place they have access to the AT's they want to play. If those players suddenly have the ability to play those AT's blueside it may cause a migration that will leave redside grossly underpopulated.
Given the fact that redside has never had a comparable population to bluside even a small shift in population could have a large impact.
This all assumes that there won't be any population migration in the other direction. What people are forgetting is that due to the size of the blueside population a smaller population shift to redside could easily increase their overall population despite losing people going blueside.
Let's say Redside has 25,000 players and 10% go blueside. That's 2,500 leaving.
Now lets's say blue side has 120,000 players and 5% goes redside. That's 6000 arriving. Redside population increases by 3,500 despite losing 2,500. -
Quote:While it's depressing to think like that, I would very much like that, myself. I spend the majority of my time solo anyway, and I'd even be willing to buy the full boxed set at $60 all over again if I had to. A regular peer-to-peer multiplayer might be nice, though I'm not certain anyone would have the financial interest to make that happen.
Maybe we can get the ability to host something like all of those "private" servers that get people in trouble for WoW and Lineage or some such. City of Heroes is something I'll always like, even when it's no longer updated, so having the ability to play it even after it's no longer supported would really, REALLY be nice.
This. -
I always wanted to be able to go inside the dang thing.

When you say alphabetized do you mean by the the type of enhancement?
Accuracy
Confuse
Damage
OR
Do you mean by whatever stupid name they came up with for the DO's, SO's, HO's, & IO sets.
Ascendance Device - (flight speed)
Bioluminescent Filter - (accuracy)
Crowley's Bracelet - (slow)
Personally I prefer listing them by the type of enhancement. -
Quote:Do you feel money is utterly useless in real life? I mean, you can't eat it, you *could* wear it with some work, you can't drive it, you can't live in it (well, again, maybe with a lot of work and bills you could build a money tent or something,) you can't use it to play games, you can read it but there's not a lot to it...
Very useless. Except, of course, that it CAN be redeemed at locations to purchase those very things - homes, clothes, food, entertainment, vehicles... pretty much anything.
... just like AE tickets in-game. Which can be redeemed in every non-hazard zone for salvage, recipes, enhancements, inspirations (including large - not purchasable with INF reliably,) a badge, more stuff to use inside AE stories you create and more.
... just like Merit rewards, which are useless outside of Merit vendors, can be used to purchase recipes, salvage, inspirations, etc.
... just like INF, which is useless inside of missions but can be used outside of it, to purchase enhancements, recipes, inspirations, etc.
... just like Prestige, which is the most limited, but can be used to provide a base, furnish it and make it a personal transportation, storage, and crafting hub.
So, where was that uselessness again?
And if you've only seen three people inside of AE since I16 began, (a) I hope that's right and you were in Atlas Park, and (b) you didn't look in the other buildings, or see who was inside AE *missions.* The buildings are not like Pocket D. Each zone's is an individual entity. If I enter AE in Port Oakes, Peregrine, or the RWZ and you enter it in King's Row, you won't see me.
Throwing in with the "Solution in search of a problem" crowd here.
Yeah I gotta agree with Bill and everyone else. "Solution in search of a problem" sums up this suggestion nicely. -
Yeah the devs were dropping CoV hints about a year prior to it being released.
-
Quote:Is it that time of the week again already? It occured to me that SG storage was mission something. I would like to store recipes that can be crafted such as costume pieces and temp powers, so adding a new type of storage bin I think makes sense. Who else agrees?
Welcome to the forums. This is a suggestion that gets made all the time. Sadly the devs don't seem to want to allow us to store recipes.
I hope they change their minds someday. -

Quote:I've found the comments I've gotten amusing, but other people have reported gettins some nasty vile comments. Those are the ones I call cowards and bullies. Worst I've gotten were just strange.I don't even mind being called an idiot, I realize my opinions and the way I state them aren't always popular. But doing it without attaching name to it is weak IMO. Oh well, no biggie

Quote:It's not that easy and you are giving people a false impression. To my knowledge you can contact the Customer Support via your PlayNC.com log in and submit a ticket to request that they please clear the banned slot so that you can make a new mission.
Players can file 1 appeal. If CS determines the ban was justified you won't get the slot back. You only get an arc back if they decide a mistake was made on their part.
Quoted from Positron's post Abusing the Mission Architect.
Quote:• Players who have a story arc banned for any reason, will have it continue to use up one of their publishing slots. Players will NOT be able to unpublish this slot without Customer Service’s help. This sets up a “three strikes and you’re out” policy. If an individual gets three story arcs banned, they will no longer be able to publish since their slots will all be used up with banned arcs.
•• This lock will not take place on the first level of “complaint banning”, where an arc has received a larger number of complaints. Players will still have a chance to fix the arc.
•• If Customer Service looks at an arc and determines it was banned in error, they will mark it as “unbannable”. At that point the arc can not be banned for any reason. The unbannable flag will reset if the player makes any changes to the arc at that point, and the arc can be banned again.
•• Remember, publishing slots are account wide, so players will not be able to log in another character on their account and use their slots instead.
