Quote:Okay, my apologies, I don't have internet access at work, and I've been posting on my phone all day, and emotes don't show, the code for them are just two white squares
So, I didn't know you were just teasing. Sorry for being defensive.
I do understand what you're saying, you can't please everyone of course, and as long as these suggestion forums are open there's always going to be people wanting change to suit them, and there's going to be counter arguments.
I do like the vet rewards and don't believe it should be removed and made purchasable, I just think that it could be done to please the majority.
Ah, the dreaded cell phones. Yeah, it's already hard enough to detect sarcasm and teasing using just a written form of communication. Taking away the emotes makes it a degree harder.
And for the record there are certain items I think never should have been made vet rewards and should be available to everyone. Primarily base decorations and costume pieces.
Now I wouldn't object to using costume pieces as vet rewards if there was a basic form given to everyone and a unique pattern of the same item as a vet reward.
Take the Samurai Armor for example. Give everyone access to the basic styles but reserve a very fancy design for the vet reward. Call it Daimyo or Shogun design. That way every one can use the basics if they want and they'll still look forward to the vet reward.
I still prefer keeping the powers as they are because they are spaced far enough apart that I still look forward to getting them. I currently have 2 accounts (69 months and 33 months) so I am fully aware of what it's like to play an account that doesn't have all the perks yet. -
Quote:I was just thinking about this, and I came to the following conclusion:
Short form:
I suggest that the trade window interface be modified so that it can be reused as the attachment for emails. I further suggest the respec sequence be adjusted so that any leftover unslotted enhancements, instead of being auto sold for inf, be instead automatically added into such a trade window attachment to an email automatically sent to the respec'ed character.
Longer form:
I essentially propose the email attachments be redesigned so that one attaches a multi-purpose container instead of a single item and/or a single quantity of inf. Coincidentally, the trade window acts as a half-decent multi-purpose container already, and probably already has a number of nice safety/tracking features already built in. Hopefully it wouldn't be too difficult to adjust the trade window interface into something that can be attachable by reference.
Emails could be hypothetically redesigned so that the attachment part opens up a (modified) trade window. The player can then add any number of enhancements or salvage or recipes or inf all in one container, and thus all in one email.
If this kind of attachment were to be produced, then it would be a very valuable quality-of-life effort to allow the respec system to use it as well.
Once a player is done with a respec, currently the game will auto sell any leftover, unslotted enhancements that were not moved to the limited-to-10 enhancement inventory. But with such attachment containers in the email system, it would be more valuable to the player if the game instead autogenerated a single email (to be delivered to the respec'ed character) and auto-packaged any leftover enhancements into the email's attachment.
This would mean a player can completely unslot a toon and recover all of the enhancements safely with just a single respec. This saves the player time (in many cases a *lot* of time) and headache and insulates the player from the cost of making mistakes.
One aspect of the trade window that would have to be changed is how the player claims the contents. Currently the claim action is all or nothing, and will fail if the player doesn't have enough inventory space for everything in the container at the same time. It would therefore be of high priority for the devs to add in a per-item claim function, so the player has the flexibility of selectively claiming what part(s) of the container he needs at any one time. And any per-item claim function would have to be properly fenced off so that regular face-to-face trade sessions are safe from bait-and-switch shenanigans.
Of course if the devs modify the trade window, it might be nice for them to throw in extra features like a button per item that the player can click to have the game do a quick search on the last 5 market prices for that item.
Personally, I find one of my biggest struggles in this game is that most of my toons are stuck in an obsolete and/or poor build, often caught with poor partial-slotting. I don't feel like I can get much fun from them because they're far weaker than I plan them to be. And it's just so hard to correct slotting problems or even to get inventory redistributed properly to the toons that need specific inventory. The very high difficulty inherent in managing this is enough to turn me off even trying to manage beyond one or two toons. This kind of change would be of profound help to me.
The devs don't want us to be able to pull every single enhancement off of a build to reuse or sell elsewhere, and they have flat out told us over and over that they were being generous when they decided to let us keep 10.
The amount of inf we get after a respec is completed for the enhancements over 10 that we were unable to slot is the amount the devs determined to be the fair reimbursement. It is not based on the Consignment House prices which can fluctuate and are driven solely by player greed. -
Quote:You were not making a suggestion, nor were you setting me straight in the previous response to me. Your post was intended to be teasingly humorous and laced with sexual innuendo. How am I ******** and moaning? I'm making a suggestion and setting you straight. If anyone is moaning and whining it's you for the way you objected to my post and now you're trying to pick a fight with me. If you don't like my idea, just say so, don't try and start somthing.
I responded by teasing you right back, and I included the silly stuck out tongue emote to emphasize that I was indeed teasing.Quote:I'm sorry, do you know me? No, you don't. So don't assume that I'm a moaner, I am but I moan about stuff a lot more important than issues with this game. Thank you
Now being unable to deal with my turning your teasing around you, you have decided to take it as a personal attack and now are pretending to the martyred victim by implying I'm the big bad bully picking on you instead of pointing out the flaw in your original contribution to the suggestion. Which is a blatant falsehood.
Your idea:
And my counter-argument:Quote:I do agree with changing it to a points system . . . You should earn say 15 points per month. Costume peices cost 15 points, perma powers cost 30 points, 45 points and 60 points, depending on how prestigeous they are.
And as everyone can see we both used the word "You" in the same fashion as a collective number to represent a group of people rather than a single person, however, only one of us (Nite Wraith) chose to take it personally.Quote:Once you've used your points to cherry pick your favorite vet rewards you'll be left with looking at six years of nothing you like. Then you'll be right back here b****in and moaning that there's nothing for you to spend your points on.
You might want to consider taking a break from posting if your response to criticism and light hearted wordplay is defensiveness and hostility. -
Quote:You're b**ching and moaning right now about my assumption that you b**ch and moan. So thanks for proving my point.I'm sorry, do you know me? No, you don't. So don't assume that I'm a moaner, I am but I moan about stuff a lot more important than issues with this game. Thank you

While I think players shouldn't get the option to skip the tutorial until they go thru it at least once, forcing people to do it every time for a couple of months will just drive people away from the game.
One of the reasons I stopped playing Champions is because I hate the tutorial. Last I checked I wasn't given the option to skip it. -
Quote:No actually it wouldn't. Once you've used your points to cherry pick your favorite vet rewards you'll be left with looking at six years of nothing you like. Then you'll be right back here b****in and moaning that there's nothing for you to spend your points on.I've just started on my third month playing this game, and 22nd of June, I get my trenchcoats for all characters. Somthing I've been looking forward to. Now whilst I'm one of these buggers with a credit card who has purchased all booster packs and the Mac SE item pack, I would not want to see the vet rewards become purchasable.
However, I do agree with changing it to a points system. Because while I look forward to getting the 15 month wings reward, I'm not too keen on the greek alphabet or the boxing costume kit, I know some are but I'm not.
You should earn say 15 points per month. Costume peices cost 15 points, perma powers cost 30 points, 45 points and 60 points, depending on how prestigeous they are.
Having a reward system like that would certainly make me stay -
Sometimes the market gets wonky. Best thing to do is either have a lot of patience or come back later.
-
-
No one is lying. You misread, misunderstood, or didn't read the entire thread where people were talking about the market. There are separate markets for each faction and there is no trading between Heros and Villains. However both markets are cross server which means a player on Guardian can buy something that a player on Virtue put up for sale as long as they are both on the same faction.

Quote:I have done it for alt purposes. At one point I had 4 accounts, then they increased the number of slots available per account and I dropped two accounts and remade the characters on my main account after I unlocked the 36 slots. Now I just have two accounts.Thanks.
I'm thinking about this, and am also becoming more neutral about it.
There may be a significant number of people that play multiples for alt purposes, but there are none that have told me they do it in game. It's possible that they are an extreme minority.
You could also say that the idea would encourage more alts, even tons of them. I would probably roll alts more freely with 100 slots.
So there's no way to say how effective this would be without knowing just how much immigration there is.
That would work well. It has the advantage over CO's system in that it allows dimensions to build up communities, which makes it easier to find those who want to do the sorts of things you want to do.
I use server transfers to retire characters from my server of choice to make room for new alts. This has the advantage that if there is a server crash I can still play on one of my retired alts and I don't have to start from scratch. -
Quote:When I read Shark's comment I took it as he was saying that it's not a good idea to make a suggestion that would affect all powersets based on a dislike of the power choices in one set. That's the only comment you could muster in opposition to this idea?
Personally, while I don't think the idea is explained or as fleshed out as it could be, it does have merit. It would be nice, to have maybe 3 extra powers per powerset to add in a bit more variability. Maybe I don't want [Bonfire] I could pick one of these alternate powers instead. Would it be a lot of work? Probably, but it would also add a lot more build fexibility that one would get waaaaay before hitting 41 and the Epic pools.
Give the idea a chance, and help him flesh it out instead of berrating it on it's face before he even gets it off the ground. People needn't post an idea ONLY after it is flawless. After all, what would there be to discuss? I think we should start to encourage active brainstorming in the Suggestions forum a lot more than we do... instead of simply flashing our e-peens and making people feel like sub-human morons for not thinking of everythign before posting an idea.
(Please note that the majority of that was not directed at the posters I quoted, but instead the general idea of post and posters like those.)
However reading it from your PoV I can see how it looks like he's just saying the idea as a whole isn't good. -
It has nothing to do with being dumb, it has to do with how some people have serious entitlement issues. To them the idea that they are going to be treated like everyone else before them is offensive.

Quote:I was clarifying a common misconception new players have when they see the number and colors of the dots next to a server. If you'll notice Manic also took the time to explain that there is a difference between server population and server load. I merely took his statement one step further. If you don't want things like this to happen in the future then take the time to include it in the first place.Show me where I claim that the dots are a representation of population, I was merely stating that freedom has been upgraded and probably wont get onto yellow dots - if anything Je saist had claimed that it was a sign of population. Yes I said that the lower populated servers are at the top of the servers list no I didn't relate that to the dots that was you're own little addition.
And if your first response when these things happen is to get defensive then maybe you should refrain from posting until you develop a thicker skin. -
Quote:Thanks for your answer guys.
I remember very well one or two years ago when players were asking for a mail feature to move enhancements and influence from one character to another. They were promptly replied that the devs had already stated they didnt want it, that for many "good" reasons, and they shouldnt be asking anymore. Well, now we've just got that mail feature with i17.
That's not true. The devs did not say they didn't want it. They said it would take a lot of work wasn't a priority issue because there were already several ways to move enhancements and inf between characters in the game. As a result they told us not to expect it any time in the near future, and true to their words it took them years to put it into the game because other things were more important. -
Quote:The dots have nothing to do with server population. Those dots represent work load, and the devs have explained several times that all it takes is one person doing the wrong thing to send a server into 3 red dots.First of all considering freedoms server was more or less recently upgraded I doubt it'll get to yellow dots again for a while and as the server list is from least populated to most populated its likely the new player will start off on a not-so populated server, secondly if a new player likes the new server he or she has started on they have every right to want to stick to that server and that server only and you or anybody else can't argue against that its there 15 odd dollars a month. Stupid theories are stupid.
And no the devs are not going to tell us what someone would need to do to send a server into the red because there are too many jacktards that would get a kick out of crashing the servers. -
Quote:Thanks for explaining, my tunnel vision was preventing me from seeing that point of view.I do see how Chaos came to that conclusion.
One of the reasons Freedom and Virtue pull so much of the perceived population... is that they are popular. Imagine if you will a new player whose never seen the game before logging in for the first time on a Saturday night. They see the Yellow dots on Freedom and Virtue, and think to themselves something of the effect that "those must be good servers, I'll go play there." New player turns around and tell all their friends about CoH and recommend friends come play on the same server with them.
New player looks through all the archtypes and they wind up making multiple characters, getting a quick bout of "alt-itis", and thus run out of space for all their new characters. So, faced with the choice of spending more money, or trying a different server, most players think, "I'll try a different server", and do so. There they find different people, with different play-styles, and different play-times.
Chaos highlights the concern that allowing players to move slots around would allow certain players to aggregate to one server or another. A good, or depending on your point of view, bad case example was witnessed with the free server transfers earlier this year. As the PvP'ers spoke to one another and moved to Freedom, other players picked up and moved off.
And here I thought it forced players to pay for multiple accounts so they could make more alts on their server of choice.Quote:The very real fact is, the hard-cap of player-slots at some point forces players to go to other servers to continue to make new characters. Allowing players to consolidate slots on one server or another would remove this, forced, interaction. -
I don't see how you come to that conclusion. If player "x" wants to transfer all of his slots to one server he can still only log onto 1 character at a time. It doesn't increase the server population, it increases the number of characters he has to choose from when he wants to play.

Quote:Glad to hear you decided to stay. I encourage you to join the CapeRadio channel on Virtue It's a private player run global channel where you'll always be able to find people on either hero or villainside, and they have their own internet radio channel. Lots of fun.Alright, so after playing fairly extensively the last two evenings home from work, I went ahead and upgraded my account. What a fun game!
I have 4 characters on the Virtue server, and my global is @Nitronus. Feel free to drop me a line! I got my sister trying the game out via the trial, which I agree is very limited in scope when compared to the official game, but we should have a server picked out soon enough.
Thanks for all the kind words and help!
Yes the trials are limited but our devs did that to cut the legs off of the RMT goldfarmer sites. Coming from WoW I'm sure you know how bad they can get.
I hope your sister likes the game too.

Quote:Let's seeI mean really how many ways can you play a Earth Rad controller.
I hope I made some sense through this rambling.
9 powers in the Primary
9 powers in the Secondary
40 in the 10 power pools
16 more to choose from in the epic/patron power pool
-------------------------------
74 powers each character can choose from.
Sorry but there's plenty of variations to choose from.

Quote:You seem to be under the assumption that time spent playing the game is the same as time spent keeping your account active. They aren't. We have a lot of players who have real life issues that take them away from the game periodically, sometimes for many months. Yet many of those players don't let their subs expire because they know they will be back and when they do they look forward to unlocking the vet rewards they'll have earned while they were away. You playing the game doesn't produce value except to yourself, so externally, the value is zero. That seems a good starting place for setting a price point.
Vet rewards aren't a perk for how much money you've spent on the game. They are a reward for how many months you've stayed a loyal customer.
That being said, I've no objection to the costume pieces being put into a special booster pack. Most of them are generic enough items. -
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but Ninja Run can be used at the same time as regular Sprint. I believe this is because Sprint can be slotted with Run and Jump enhancements while Ninja Run can't be slotted.
I also heard that using Ninja Run in conjunction with a fully slotted Sprint/Swift you can hit the Fly speed cap. -
I know it does show as "banned" because G_G was given one and I know for a fact while she was away hers read as "Banned". I'm just acknowledging that I may be misremembering if the person in this thread was given a suspension. But your right that we should avoid discussing it. So I'll drop it.
