More QoL improvements : mail stacking, inventory

The times of "pain is good" in MMOs seem to be a bit over right now. We have seen some "quality of life improvements" in the past months like the mail, or the marker on mission map for last objectives as examples we couldnt have expected a few years before. Of course it doesnt mean everything must be given to players for free from now, but there are a few other things on the list which have been waiting for a long long time.

I'm thinking especially about the enhancement inventory, and the fact they're not stackable.

- First of all, the new mail system is great, but it should be possible to send stacks of items, or at least have a multiple attachment option there. I understand this 15 sec limit to prevent gold farmers from spamming too much but still... gold farmers will eventually keep on spamming using macros, and the normal players pay the price as always. If I want to send some stacks of salvage, or a row of enhancement from one toon to another, I will spend several minutes when it should be only 20-30 sec max.

- And I'm coming to my main point : 10 slots for the enhancement inventory is too few. Also enhancements of the same kind should stack. It requires alot of time at the moment to move enhancements from one toon to another, when it could be much easier. Right now with the totally crazy prices on villain the market side, I find myself unslotting old toons to slot new ones, rather than buying everything from the market (hello 250M lotgs !) : it's really a pain to have only 10 slots for that matter too. Multiple respecs are needed to move the valuable enhancements, as well as alot of time you spend on tedious tasks rather than actually playing the game. Something like 3 rows of enhancements inventory would make things much better for sure.

I hope we'll see some improvements in that matter in the months coming. Thanks for reading

/signed, anything that makes moving my stuff around easier works for me.

Quite simply, respecs are not for stripping out enhancements to send to your other characters. Positron has gone on record saying that allowing you to put ten enhancements in your tray to save after a respec is already generous. I wouldn't expect that to change any time soon. (This thread offers a possible balanced alternative.)

Is it Tuesday again already? I was wondering how long it would take for one of the respec whiners to try to use the new email feature as an excuse to whine about not being able to pull more than 10 enhancements from a build at a time.

As IanTheM1 has pointed out the devs have already said they were being generous when they decided to let us keep 10 and they repeated it after the market went online.

Things change, I say keep asking for it. Every week. We eventually got the ability to email influence and items to ourselves, so this could happen eventually too.

There's a difference between "We found a way to do it" and "No." Repeating it again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again is only annoying.

That's fine if it annoys some people, they will get over it. And if they don't, oh well. If enough people keep asking for it, then it might happen. If some people get annoyed by reading the threads along the way, that's ok.

It's more likely they'll simply keep ignoring it like they've been doing. And we know at least one dev has no problem putting forum members on his ignore list.

I think it was Castle that said he did that to a group of people that were annoying him.

That's fine. But it doesn't do any harm to keep asking. So I still say if people want it that they should keep bringing it up. Over and over and over again.

Feel free to ask as often as you like but it's pretty obvious what path the devs have chosen to take on this issue.

When they first implemented respecs they gave us very strict limitations.

Trial Respecs - earned, up to 3 possible

Then they started giving us one for free when they made significant changes to a powerset.

As time went on instead of allowing us to pull more enhancements off of a build during a respec they chose to give us access to more respecs.
  • Veteran Respecs - earned, up to 5 possible (at 69 months)
  • Respec Recipes - free (These cannot be crafted if the character already has a free respec available)
  • Purchased Respec - earned, theoretically unlimited
  • Holiday Respec - free (These cannot be purchased at the Candy Keeper if the character already has a free respec available)

The message is clear. If we want to pull more than 10 enhancements off of a build we have to burn a respec.

If for some strange reason they decided to change their position on this I see them either reducing the number of respecs we now have available or making IO's soulbound to a character in order to prevent people from constantly doing exactly what the OP wants to do.

Thanks for your answer guys.

I remember very well one or two years ago when players were asking for a mail feature to move enhancements and influence from one character to another. They were promptly replied that the devs had already stated they didnt want it, that for many "good" reasons, and they shouldnt be asking anymore. Well, now we've just got that mail feature with i17.

I guess everything changes, and what the devs stated one day might be bad for the game, can become good one year after.

I feel the devs have chosen another direction with the recent QoL improvements than what has been standard in this game for the last few years in terms of limitations. I might be wrong but the introducing of this mail feature could be just a step on a path of more QoL improvements of the same kind. Those could take some time though, we cannot know for sure. Anyway we'll see, and my suggestion still stands

PS : thanks Ian for your link, indeed I like very much the suggestion there too

That's not true. The devs did not say they didn't want it. They said it would take a lot of work wasn't a priority issue because there were already several ways to move enhancements and inf between characters in the game. As a result they told us not to expect it any time in the near future, and true to their words it took them years to put it into the game because other things were more important.

I was just thinking about this, and I came to the following conclusion:

Short form:

I suggest that the trade window interface be modified so that it can be reused as the attachment for emails. I further suggest the respec sequence be adjusted so that any leftover unslotted enhancements, instead of being auto sold for inf, be instead automatically added into such a trade window attachment to an email automatically sent to the respec'ed character.

Longer form:

I essentially propose the email attachments be redesigned so that one attaches a multi-purpose container instead of a single item and/or a single quantity of inf. Coincidentally, the trade window acts as a half-decent multi-purpose container already, and probably already has a number of nice safety/tracking features already built in. Hopefully it wouldn't be too difficult to adjust the trade window interface into something that can be attachable by reference.

Emails could be hypothetically redesigned so that the attachment part opens up a (modified) trade window. The player can then add any number of enhancements or salvage or recipes or inf all in one container, and thus all in one email.

If this kind of attachment were to be produced, then it would be a very valuable quality-of-life effort to allow the respec system to use it as well.

Once a player is done with a respec, currently the game will auto sell any leftover, unslotted enhancements that were not moved to the limited-to-10 enhancement inventory. But with such attachment containers in the email system, it would be more valuable to the player if the game instead autogenerated a single email (to be delivered to the respec'ed character) and auto-packaged any leftover enhancements into the email's attachment.

This would mean a player can completely unslot a toon and recover all of the enhancements safely with just a single respec. This saves the player time (in many cases a *lot* of time) and headache and insulates the player from the cost of making mistakes.

One aspect of the trade window that would have to be changed is how the player claims the contents. Currently the claim action is all or nothing, and will fail if the player doesn't have enough inventory space for everything in the container at the same time. It would therefore be of high priority for the devs to add in a per-item claim function, so the player has the flexibility of selectively claiming what part(s) of the container he needs at any one time. And any per-item claim function would have to be properly fenced off so that regular face-to-face trade sessions are safe from bait-and-switch shenanigans.

Of course if the devs modify the trade window, it might be nice for them to throw in extra features like a button per item that the player can click to have the game do a quick search on the last 5 market prices for that item.

Personally, I find one of my biggest struggles in this game is that most of my toons are stuck in an obsolete and/or poor build, often caught with poor partial-slotting. I don't feel like I can get much fun from them because they're far weaker than I plan them to be. And it's just so hard to correct slotting problems or even to get inventory redistributed properly to the toons that need specific inventory. The very high difficulty inherent in managing this is enough to turn me off even trying to manage beyond one or two toons. This kind of change would be of profound help to me.

The devs don't want us to be able to pull every single enhancement off of a build to reuse or sell elsewhere, and they have flat out told us over and over that they were being generous when they decided to let us keep 10.

The amount of inf we get after a respec is completed for the enhancements over 10 that we were unable to slot is the amount the devs determined to be the fair reimbursement. It is not based on the Consignment House prices which can fluctuate and are driven solely by player greed.
