The markets

I thought that CoH and CoV share the same market based on a couple people's comments here on the boards, despite being called different names (WW and BM), but someone in-game told me the other day that they do NOT share the same "space". So who's lying?

They are completely separate things.

They do not share anything between hero side and villain side.

The markets between servers are the same. The market between sides are not. (So, basically, there's only one hero market, and one villain market, shared among all servers. Put something up on Guardian, blueside, and a hero on Pinnacle can buy it, but no villain can.)

But all servers on the same faction do share. So you can sell something on Protector and someone can buy it on Freedom.

No one is lying. You misread, misunderstood, or didn't read the entire thread where people were talking about the market. There are separate markets for each faction and there is no trading between Heros and Villains. However both markets are cross server which means a player on Guardian can buy something that a player on Virtue put up for sale as long as they are both on the same faction.

No problem. Tomorrow we'll explain that the new email feature works the same way.

The markets are also cross-Atlantic. The EU players and the NA players all share the two markets. Someone on Defiant Blueside can list their Sparkly Findangle, and someone on Pinnacle Blueside can bid on it, and all other permutations.

This I didn't know. Makes me wonder how difficult a serverlist merge would be (enabling EU accounts to access NA servers, and vice versa). Clearly something's already merged in there.

Wait!? The markets are trans-oceanic but they can't* add the EU servers to the US server list? (or US to EU depending on your perspective)

* I'm assuming can't because I can think of no reason that makes sense to me of why they wouldn't.

EDIT- Ah, I see I'm not the only one wondering.

It's not "can't" at all - there is no "can't" in programming that can't be overcome with enough time/resources/people - it's more "won't" (possibly to do with the time/resources/people involvement). Although the end result is still the same: no merged server lists.

That makes sense. It's unfortunate though. It seems like there are good people over here (I'm stationed in Italy) that would be fun to play with.

There might also be various legal issues, like the ones that keep EU players from participating in the various Official Contests they occasionally have. International laws are murky.

All kinds of can't in programming. Matter of fact its one of the few things where you have provably can't

In the past, although you could buy a heroside item with a hero on any server (which hasn't changed), it was kind of like pulling the item out of the cross-server market pool and onto a specific server. Once your Justice hero bought the item, it was a Justice item. The only way to get it to another server at that point was to put it back on the market -- which exposed it to a chance of being bought by someone else before you could buy it on the server you hoped to move it to.

The new e-mail system eliminates that concern. Once you buy the item on Justice, you can e-mail it to your global and pull it off the e-mail on any hero on any server (still subject to the North American/Euro divide described in previous posts).
