    Id have to say BS/SD for 3 major reasons.

    1) Soft-Capping Melee Defense through Parry using only SOs.

    2) AAO raising the already fugly Melee Damage your going to deliver.

    3) Soft-Capped Melee Defense allows you to grab a entire mob to use a BU+AAO Damage increased Shield Charge.Ouch....

    This is my opinion.

    Personally iv never had issues killing anything solo on a Defender.However them adding damage while solo is just nacho cheese added to the broccolli.

    I never have understood the down play of a Defenders damage as it is pre-i17.They always do plenty of damage for me.

    Then again when you dont take half to 2/3 your Secondary Blast powers on a Defender, you feel like your weak.I dont have this problem.

    Well, I have acctually held a authentic Gladius before.Which would be the sword of the Roman Soldiers.The thing is so heavy at the hilt, that its no wonder it hits so hard.

    Put one in your hand and youll know what I speak of.Its a power hitting weapon.

    Im curious if anyones heard anything in the way of being allowed to change the colors on pool powers?

    Id like to change the color of my Hasten, Epic Pyre, ect to match the colors of the powers I have for a toon.

    Like wanting Baby Blue Hasten on my hands and a Baby Blue World of Confusion on my Ice Hued Ice/Cold Controller.Even Bluse Super Speed would be nice.It would look like im streaking on Ice or whatever.

    Anyone know if they are going to make this possible?Cause it would further enhance themes.

    Iv already figured at higher levels on the WP/EM build that ill be doing +4 solo missions set for 1-2 people.I just perfer a easier time fighting a 8 man mob.They drop fast, and exp comes easy if you can nuke a entire mob with little effort.

    I acctually perfer to fight DE, Carnies, and Vaz on my main Tanker.

    SD/Axe is a combonation of Smashing/Lethal damage.Great for DE Golems and Plants.Everything takes more damage in DE from either my Melee Attacks, or my SC.

    Half the Vaz enemies and 75% of the Carnies take alot more damage from lethal.I guess some peoples hell is another mans heaven.

    At lvl 41, hitting 5 Carnies with Pendulum for almost 400 damage each is FUN!

    Whirling Axe acctually pays for its self on Carnies.Hits the ones vulnerable to Lethal for 200ish.

    As for you being fine with hitting 1 Target at a time with EM and having next to worthless AoE?Fine, thats your opinion.I will simply dissagree with it.Playing EM on my Tanker is a bit painful when a on a team with a Elec Armor/Ice Melee Tanker on a Sewers team and watching as it does way more damage to mobs then I do on my WP/EM.The same will be true at higher levels as well.

    Frozen Aura is far from the single worst power in the game.I have no issues with it sleeping a mob.It has its uses.You just dont know how to use it, or simply want to mouth about the set.Or perhaps youv never used it before, or ill go even further then that.You may have only seen it once while being used on a horrible Tank Player.Problem is, Ice does rather good damage if you know what your doing with it.

    As for the secondary effect?Ice Melee has slows, and a close proximity KD power from Ice Patch.So what does this mean?Simple.

    1) Slows mean the mob attacks slower.Keeping them from swinging or shooting at you often, attacking you at a slower rate.Thats a very good midigation tool to have.

    2) Ice Patch.Yes, it only effects 5 at a time.However thats 5 things unable to act.Means less attacks you and the team.

    3) Frost is a very under estimated power.Used correctly with Frozen Aura.Its gives a good amount of slow secondary effect, and decent damage.This power is commonly skipped from what iv seen veiwing Ice Melee Tankers that run around in there 50s.

    4) Frozen Aura and Frost are pure cold damage.Hardly anything resists Cold damage.This is where I stress that Mid's is commonly wrong.The numbers for Ice Melee in mids is low, however, if you take into account the exotic damage of the set your not missing much in the way of damage vs a Lethal or Smashing damage set.Mid's shows numbers, not Exotic Damages vs targets A-Z.Its all in your head.

    I have a WP/EM Tanker and a Ice/Ice Tanker.There is going to be no possible way my WP/EM is ever going to have the control and mob wide damage my Ice/Ice Tanker will.If you belive otherwise, then again.Thats your opinion, but its not based in reality.

    Also, as a side rant.Iv heard people say that the ST damage attacks in Ice Melee are weak as well.I have yet to have any difficulty in that area for my Ice Tanker.

    As for EM?Well, my opinion about the set isnt a good one.However im biast towards ST builds.I rolled this Tanker simply "In Case" EM gets love in the future.

    Well, I commonly see Fire Melee or Electrical Melee paired with Shields.Just last night when I rolled upt he WP/EM Tanker and went and did the Sewers.I was on a 7 man team that has 2 other tankers.Both Shield, and both Elec Melee.

    I havnt see any SD/SS Tankers for a while.

    Thats surprising that Castle said what he said.Considering im constantly looking for the so called "terrible" or "weak" sets and combos are and make them strong, and being a Melee Enthusist.I have to say that playing a Stalker for me is increadibly stupid easy.

    I dont play Stalkers because id never get off the game to Bathe or Eat.Thats a bad combo.

    /devices is a fine example in a very defensive set. Caltrops can keep thugs from pounding your face in, or slow them at a corner as you lay into them with your cones and AoE's.

    Cloaking Device is the only defensive toggle available in blaster secondaries, handy for sniping missions or stealthing across hostile territory.

    I'm partial to AR/Devices for theme, but I weigh my decisions on thematics first and technical objectives second.
    Yes, Carnies take more damage from lethal.

    So do Vaz Zombies and Abominations, as well as the Vaz Bosses and a number of things in the game take extra damage from Lethal.

    Playing a SD/Axe pointed such things out to me.
  12. Hello Forumites.I have decided to roll a Super Reflexes Scrapper.Simply because I cant have it on a Tanker.*Shakes fist at Dev's*

    I have a decent amount of Tankers, and I want a SR Scrapper.I know a Brute would feel more Tankish, but who needs Fury anyway?

    I have the Following for Tankers.This may help a bit on Melee Recomendations for SR.

    SD/Axe
    Ice/Ice
    WP/EM
    Elec/Elec
    Fire/Fire
    Dark/Dark

    What would be a good Technological Theme for a SR Scrapper's Melee skill?

    He is a young Scientist in a Reflex Suit.Which exsplains the SR part of the Theme and Build.

    Any Suggjestions?

  14. Oddly enough, I rarely see any new Tankers or high level Tankers for that matter using Super Strength these days.Is it because Sheilds are that popular that people shy away from the Rage?

    Im on Freedum, and I recall not having seen a SS Tanker for the last 2 months anywhere.
  15. Alot of valid points are being brought up here.Im glad im not the only one who feels EM needs some love.

    I however am going to try playing a EM Tanker 1 more time.Ill be making it with Willpower this time around and getting it to atleast level 32 in hopes that some day they will change EM for the better, and ill be 1 step ahead of the game by owning a EM Tanker.

    If it does, or does not happen.I can still try to find the bright end of the tunnel for EM.

    I agree on the Stance of it should be controlled but not avioded.Theres alot of powers out there that people aviod taking due to KB or whatever else they make a excuse for it to not take it.

    My most recent experiance with a player complaing was on my Fire/Fire Blaster.I was doing a 2nd sewer run in a new tradition I do for my self thats easy street.I join sewer teams till level 20.It keeps me from having to run out and find missions, ect.Its quick either way.

    Anyhow, I triggered Rain of Fire, then continues with Fireball, Fire Breath, and Combustion, nearly killing a mob of Lost by my self.The 1 Scrapper on the team said "Stop using RoF!Your making them run!".My reply was "I almost killed the entire mob my self and your complaining about scatter?"

    All that was left was a single boss, and he didnt get far because I was nailing him with Flares and Fire Blast.After seeing me Alpha that way for 3 mobs, the 2 Tankers on the team decided that I should Tank.So I did, and it worked out fine.Things where dead way to fast to kill me.Great Thing about Ranged is that you can stay out of the mobs range if your smart.

  18. Ok, iv been wanting to make a /EM Tanker fro a long time now, but I cant force my self to roll one and keep playing it..The set seems cool in concept and all, but theres a huge issue I cant get past when it comes to this set.

    First of all, with the advant of going and upping the mob numbers in missions.This set has fallen behind every single Melee Set Tankers and Brutes can choose.

    I for starters dont fight anything less the a 8 man mob w/bosses on every one of my Tankers.I use Axe, Elec Melee, Fire Melee, Ice Melee, and even Dark melee.All of these sets seem to beat out Energy Melee in AoE and in activation times of powers.

    I would love to continue playing a Energy Melee Tanker, but whats the point when its unfortunatly the worste set in the bunch now?For ST damage, its great.I dont want to have to be forced to play either a FA/EM or SD/EM Tanker to even half way enjoy the set.

    I propose a few changes to Energy Melee that I dont think are to game breaking or anything close to it.

    Heres my Opinion on its rebuild.

    1) Energy Punch should be switched to teir 1 and Barrage to teir 2.

    2) Energy Transfers activation time doesnt need to be fixed, however the amount of targets it hits does.Give it the same Cone Radius like that of Jaccob's Ladder.Then it would be a worth while power to take due tio having a chance to hit a max of 2 or 3 Targets.

    3) Take out Stun and replace it with something else.I dont think anyone takes that power anyhow.

    4) Focus should be treated as a small radius AoE, maybe a bit like Thunder Strike or at the very least let it travel a short ways forward and hit a enermy or 2 standing behind the one taking the hit.Like Cleave.

    To me it would make more sense that Energy Melee be a bit more AoE Friendly.Even if the top damaging powers only hit 2-5 things, it would make a huge diffrence, and youd acctually see someone using the set now days instead of complainging about it.

    This is just how I can see how it can be fixed, and is nothing more then a opinion that I hope gets atleast looked at by the Dev's.

    I want to play Energy Melee for a Tanker, but if every other set beats it out for AoE I dont see a point.I perfer to have decent, to massive AoE for my Melee Builds.

    At this point I belive that Energy Melee is more for the Scrapper heap for powers then it is for a Brute or a Tanker at this point.The only reason why I say that is alot of Scrapper players iv been around go with ST builds to keep most the Agro off them for higher survivability.I like AoE on a Tanker.
  19. I play a Dark/Dark Tanker.Its only level 18 at the moment due to my art.However its not bad at all at durability and damage.I cant wait for higher levels with it as I have no douts that itll be a juggernaught in the way of Tanking, even before IOs.

    If you cant Play Dark Armor, please dont mouth about it or put it down.Its a very good set.

    Scrankers

    From my personal experiance with Tankers over the years.I can offer up what people "Think" a Scranker is.Iv been accused of it many times and I cant recall ever building a Scranker.

    Iv had varing experiances on all types of Tanker builds.

    The most common thing I get is someone asking me why I didnt go with Willpower or Invln, to others insulting my choice of Armor for my Tanker.Doesnt always happen, but its enough to annoy me.

    What a Scranker is belived to be is nothing more then another players perception of what a real Tanker build is.I cant lie though, iv seen some horribly played Tankers in my day, but I wouldnt call them Scrankers.

    Iv been called a Scranker on the following builds.Id also like to note that these builds held the agro and took the punishment just fine.

    FA/SS
    FA/Elec
    Elec/Elec
    FA/EM
    DA/DM
    DA/Axe
    SD/Axe


    These may not be all the builds iv played over the years that got accused of Scranking, or being a horrible Tanker, but by no means did they perform badly.

    Even I have a Idea of what a Scranker build is, and its not about anything other then there power sets.

    I find Players that make a Willpower or Invuln Tanker with a Melee set like Energy Melee are Scrankers.Im sure if built and played right they can hold Agro just fine.However I have no faith in these builds due to watching teams get wiped with a Tanker like this in the lead.

    In many of the cases iv seen.That Tanker is the last man standing, and is slowly getting pounded into the dirt till he dies.making him the last person down.The problem with this is, that a Tanker should grab the Alpha and hold it through the entire fight.The main builds iv seen have issues with this are WP/and Invln/ builds.

    So, that type of build is my idea of what a Scranker is.

    Dark/Dark - lvl 37 - +1/8 w/Bosses
    Traps/Rad - lvl 28 - +0/8 w/Bosses
    Storm/Elec - lvl 27 - +0/8 w/Bosses
    Cold/Ice - lvl 28 - +0/8 w/Bosses

    I have several other Defenders.These are the ones I solo with the most.

    I dont play much these days, so I dont have a pile of level 50s yet.

    Im still curious how people claim a Rad Primary Defender can solo easly?Iv yet to make a Rad/ Defender that can handle what my other Defenders can handle.

    On a Controller having a /Rad Secondary makes it a easy to play and enjoyable build.Mainly because you can lock things down.The only Rad/ Defender I can think of that would be remotly capable of this would be a Rad/Dark Defender.It can lock down a mob and hold it in place for Rad's ancors.Otherwise, just make a Blaster and hope for the best.

    I stated how "I" play.Not how I exspect "Others" to play.

    Im pointing out how easy it seems to "ME" when it comes to building a character.So I dont like, or apprechiate Mid's.Im not speaking for everyone else.

    There are builds that can improve a combonation with Pool Powers.This however doesnt apply to all combonations.If I was saying what you just implied, then Id never take anything in the Fittness Pool.Which I do take with every character I make.

    Id really like to know how people read so deeply into something thats not there.If you want to pick a fight with me, then by all means ask me to.I dont care for the word play with assumptions.
  23. First off, I apprechiate everyones replies, comments, and flames towards my spelling, as well as assumptions that im the problem when it comes to being team kicked.As I dont commonly talk at all in game unless im looking for a team in the first place.

    Secondly, yes I play on Freedom.From what iv been understanding its the main server that has these problems with other peoples attitudes.

    Now 1 of you asked what kind of odd builds im playing to get me kicked, or looked over when people are making teams.Ill list a few of them to give you a understanding of my play style.

    But first, id also like to address someone elses comment about claiming I had a Ice/Sonic build, and commented in another post that I didnt have one.You are correct, however, I recently made that same build after commenting on that combo, then commented in this post about having it.Because I do.

    My uncommon builds are.

    Dark/Dark - Tanker
    Storm/Elec - Defender
    Cold/Ice - Defender
    Rad/Ice - Blaster
    Earth/Earth - Dominator
    Ice/Sonic - Controller
    Traps/Rad - Defender
    Spines/Invln - Scrapper

    These are to name only a few.However Ill list off some builds that have been kicked from a team by the leader because of ignorance or Biast.Also id like to point out its not as often as it may have seemed when I first made this post, but it does happen some times.These kicks come before im even seen in action on these builds, and many times come with a /tell in the form of a insult, or someone simply not needing or wanting my type of build for there team.

    The list of builds that was dissmissed before I was allowed to enter the mission, or was kicked the moment I entered a mission just by looking at my apperant powers are.

    Fire/Fire - Tanker
    Storm/Elec - Defender
    Rad/Ice - Blaster
    Earth/Sonic - Controller
    Sonic/Sonic - Defender
    FF/Archery - Defender

    There might be a couple more I may not be remembering off the bat, but these are the few builds iv been booted off a team with for 1 reason or another.

    None of which are poor performers at all, or built horribly either.In fact, I tend to more then exceed the roll for the AT I tend to play due to blessings from the devs that cost me a few extra bucks, but none the less have contributed to making me a heavy team contributor on my builds, or allow me to solo with ease.

    The biggest 10 dollar power I rave about is Ninja Run.I dont have to skip a thing in my builds by level 50.I can have easly every power in both my Primary and Secondary sets and still ahve room for the Fittness pool, minus Hurdle.If I want a Epic pool, then I just choose a power I dont need at all from my build and by level 50, I can have 3 Fittness Pool powers and 3 Epic Pool powers.

    Powers like If I went with a Traps/ Defender, and skipped Web Grenade.I could take every other power after that in Traps, and have every single blast from my Secondary by level 38.Same for Tanks, Blasters, Scrappers, Ect.

    I make characters that have a balance from there power sets.To me, being able to use most, if not all of my powers in my sets makes a more solid character then if I went to use a Mid's Program, or other pools for that matter.

    My point is, the Mid's users may find comfort in the use of the program.I however do not.

    Ill also point out that you are correct.I dont use IOs.I have yet to find the need for them.You Min/Maxers or none proclaimed Min/Maxers that use Mid's to Map out your character have found your way to play the game.I cant say anything cross about that anymore.No point.

    I will say that while you may be a exspert at spelling, Mids, or just being that person who uses Assumptions to make someone look like they have a problem.I have went and learned the game from a diffrent stand point.

    Primary X + Secondary Y = Desired Balance.

    That simple equation is the root of how I play.I dont go for Synergy most the time.I go for Balance in whatever feild of performance I wish to go.

    Examples are very much like my Builds.Sit down and look at the builds Iv listed off, and with very little common sense, you know there function.No need for Mid's, or IOs, or heavy thinking.

    As for my spelling?Ok, so?

    If you dont like my spelling, then simply dont read it.If you find it a better use of your time by making fun of how I spell, then by all means, go right ahead.

    I did find the graded spelling post to be rather humorous, and it was rather flattering to know someone will waste that much time on my post to make a *** out of them selves.

    Anyhow.Im not sure I got the whole point here, but im certain I got some of the point accrossed.

  24. Ok, I have to ask the same question iv asked before, but ill ask it in a diffrent way.Maybe ill get more then flamming this time around.*crosses fingers*

    Now, what I want to know is why people stick to Mids, and why they only stick to Flavor builds that 1 Min/Max suggjests to another?

    I get flak from other players and booted from teams before missions begin, as well as have minor to cases of extreem biast when I play something that they dont commonly see when it comes to builds.Lets not forget a snarky player that belive your combonation is horrible and lets you know they feel that way.Reguardless if the combo is good or not.

    I know alot of you on these boards claim you dont have this issue when you play with other people.Odds are, your playing what they play or whats common.I however dont.

    I know this subject acctually angers people, and everyone wants to belive they are individuals, but im still not understanding how thats a possiblity when almost everyone plays mostly the common builds that everyone else does?

    When I see 20 Blasters ranging from level 1 to 50 under Atlas.With common or identical combos and looking like a Mercinary re-hash, or Hit Man likeness.All with the Dual Pistols Primary, and 1 of 2 Common Secondaries like Energy Melee or Mental Manipulation.It makes me ask why.

    I see more then I care to count in Fire/Kin controllers.We dont even have to get into that one.Its self exsplanitary already.

    Most the Scrappers and Tankers I see anymore are basically Willpower or Shield Defense with either Super Strength, Mace, or Fire Melee when it comes to the Tankers, and Elec Melee and Fire Melee mostly for Scrappers as common now days.

    I see on forums where people say things along the lines of "Worthless joke build." and its oddly a very nice combonation.Like Ice/Sonic on a Controller, and Storm/Elec on a Defender.These builds arnt jokes, nore are they bad.I have these builds and they are awesome.

    Why do people push more then half the power sets in the game back so feircely when they are alot better then they belive them to be?

    Is it a fear of the unknown?

    Im curious.
