Taxing online Games (from BBC)
What will they do with all that INF?
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, they get a Badge when they get to 1,000,000, don't they? -
[ QUOTE ]
I wonder if it's possible for them to add a "visual glowie" to the game? Like a little light beside the health and XP bar that pulses and grows bigger when you get closer to a glowie?
[/ QUOTE ]
I like that idea a lot! Speaking as someone who can usually hear the glowie sound but has terrible trouble with pinpointing the direction it's coming from, this would save a lot of running around like a headless chicken in mission maps. I'm sure it's doable, because they have something like it in The Witcher, with an amulet at the bottom of the screen that glows and vibrates when in close proximity of certain monsters. Definitely /signed.
And Shannon, I know the feeling of queasiness in mission maps too. 'Specially the cave ones, for some reason. I even tried putting the camera on Always Centred for a while, but that was a disaster - I just kept finding myself unexpectedly disappearing down tunnels like I'd fallen through a trapdoor or somethingApparently ginger biscuits are supposed to help...

[ QUOTE ]
Easiest was to do this is not to create a bind, but to make a macro. This means you can place the icon in your tray same as the other commands for youe pets.
To do this type...
/macro BG Petcom_all Follow Defensive
Hope this helps x
[/ QUOTE ]
So THAT's how it's done - I've been wondering how for ages! (Hey, cut me some slack here - I'm old and more used to reading manuals in paper form than looking through screens on The Inter Web) That's a very good system, I might try that one. Thanks Donna!

[ QUOTE ]
You're complaining that people don't want to fill and calling them selfish! What exactly are you trying to accomplish by saying all of this if you're not trying to change people's opinions of filling?
[/ QUOTE ]
You didnt quote where I said I was trying to change peoples mind or force them to do something that they don't want to... could you have been mistaken perhaps ?
[ QUOTE ]
Ermmm.... sorry, but I have to correct you there - it's completely possible to be contacted via /tells when you're on a mission map. I know this to be true because.. well, put it this way: if I had a pound for every /tell I've had saying "wanna team?" or the like whilst I've been in the middle of a mission map, it would have covered my subs for the entire 15 months I've been playing.
[/ QUOTE ]
Pssst,, before you correct me read what has been said... I said you cannot get a team invite while in map... I didn't say /t i said team invite.... Don't worry, no one noticed. x
[/ QUOTE ]
You mean, this bit right here...
[ QUOTE ]
If you are in a mission the /search will say so and you cannot be invited to a team... the only people to get /t's would be the ones that are yes,,, out a mission, not in a team, and doing nothing that filling would interfere with.
[/ QUOTE ]
My apologies. I assumed that "you cannot be invited to a team" included invites to teams via /tells, and not exclusively the invite function which pops up the box. I also misread the part that says "the only people to get /t's would be the ones that are yes,,, out a mission..."
( hope the above doesn't read as sarcasm, because there is none intended.)
I'm certain I've had team invite boxes pop up whilst I've been in missions though - one in the Frostfire one meant I didn't see an ice patch and ended up careering into a wall, and another villain-side when I was stealing supplies from the boat and getting caned by three Fang soldiers. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Not really sure if this belongs here.... But aside from all the blind invites/stupid farm requests another thing I find rude is not answering to tells asking to join the team. Yes, I do understand that you may be in the thick of the battle and no, I dont care if you just reply with a blunt no but not answering is just rude. Even if you're fighting you could answer after that or reply "1 sec" or "no" while fighting, neither of those take more than a few seconds to type.
Nowadays I just run a bind to ask anyone around my level for team if they're showing on /search. Got too bored to type the same sentence 5 or more times and getting only 1 or 2 responses.
[/ QUOTE ]
I get this all the time. I asked 5 people yesterday if they wanted to team with me, NONE of them replied.
Is everyone just rude or somewhat?
[/ QUOTE ]
Not necessarily, no. I posted my reason for often not replying to /tells in the General section of the forum under the "Any Deaf players play ?" topic (sorry, I tried to put in a link to it, but I couldn't get it to work for love nor money)
It's just that I've seen this raised several times before in the past, and now it's making me paranoid about being thought a rude and antisocial whatserface...Obviously this isn't a likely reason for every player who ignores /tells... but it might be more than you think.
-
My truckload of biographies can be seen by clicking on the linky in my signature below
(My 'best' hero bio = Princess Noir, villain bio = Rose Madder.)
My bio addiction has developed in tandem with my alt one - once I'd created one for one character the others just seemed incomplete without them. My hero bios tend to be tongue-in-cheek, whilst my villain ones are generally darker (that probably says something very warped about my psyche, but hey-ho....)
And yes, I too like to click on other people's toons to read their bios. It's good to meet a kindred spirit! -

And to answer eskimo_spy,

What do you think people do when they're not on a team? Just stand around twiddling their thumbs until someone asks them to join a team. Belive it or not some people do solo at times to clear up their missions or just because they simply want to.
[/ QUOTE ]

/ignore for me is a temporary thing, to prevent my having to deal with that person for now, when I'm perhaps not in the best frame of mind for responding in a sweet and oh-so-polite manner as befitting my 'mature mummy' status (if such a thing is not a contradiction in terms...!)
It's my equivalent of "Okay, you're <insert appropriate word here> me off right now, so rather than continue this pointless and quite frankly soul-sapping conversation I am going to pretend that I have vanished from the face of the server. Ba-bye!" Then about a week later I just clear off any /ignores that are up there. So far, in my 15 months of playing, there have only been 3 in total, so I guess that proves the huge majority of other players aren't THAT annoying -
hi Bambiz
I am not completely deaf but I am what I believe it's now pc to call 'hearing impaired.' It basically means there are several 'notes' in speech and everyday sounds that I no longer hear at all, so everything I do hear is distorted rather than at a lower volume. Means, among other things, that I miss /tells a lot of the time because for me the 'ding' for a tell gets masked by other in-game sounds if they're going off at the same time - even little ones, like auras firing up (or that blimmin' Science Vendor playing with his lightsabre thingy!) Sometimes people get replies from me to /tells they probably sent half an hour ago, 'cause I've only just seen them in my Chat window. They probably think I'm just old and slow (Well... I am, but that's another story...) But none of those little problems have ever stopped me playing the game - I love it too much.
In fact, the ability to use Chat channels makes it much easier to know what people are saying in-game than in real life (where I have, all too often, resorted to merely nodding my head 'meaningfully' and going "Yeah..." rather than ask someone to repeat what they just said for the third time...) I do lip-read, but, as anyone with hearing difficulties knows, even that can be scuppered by the silliest things - people who don't move their lips much when they talk, people with beards/moustaches, etc.
Anyhoo, welcome to the gameMy in-game handle is @EllieMentz if you fancy a chat (or @Wundapants on the Test Server.) Oh, and don't worry if someone with a completely different name replies - I have so many alts I should probably be in The Priory for it by now
-
[ QUOTE ]
No, but seriously, I ain't intrested in any WotLK. Left WoW a looooooong time ago. Others would agree the game is rubbish and that won't stop it from being rubbish.
[/ QUOTE ]
So, soooo true. I heard they'd already added in some of the whizzy 'new features' into the game, so, after a looong hiatus I logged in and decided to try them out...
....and y'know what? After 'discovering' the new Stormwind Harbour and getting a few new haircuts for my toons I just didn't feel like doing anything else. Lost the will to play, even with a ton of new stuff added - for the first time in my whole history of the game.
For me at least, it looks like WoW is officially dead. All hail the new king, CoX! -
A quick way of putting all your pets in BG mode all at once is to use a bind. This is the one I use - just type the following into your Chat window:
/bind CTRL+W petcomall defensive follow
Now every time you hit Ctrl+W it will instantly put all your pets in BG mode - you'll know it's worked when you see their speech bubbles come up. (It also works to call them back if they decide to go tearing after some random mob that you ran away from five minutes ago)
And as others have said, don't worry about the lack of HP. With your little guys out in front you won't be getting hit a lot anyway, bwah ha haaaah... -
[ QUOTE ]
From the first chat log file in my COH folder, dating back to 2006 during an innocent visit to Atlas...
[Tell]Total Stranger: eo u want to hve sex with me
[Tell]-->Total Stranger: shoo
And then 2 minutes later in local chat I see:
[Local]Innocent Bystander: no
[Local]Total Stranger: y
[Local]Innocent Bystander: cause i dnt
I assume they were getting similar tells to me
[/ QUOTE ]
They were! I know, 'cause I remember that guy too! I think I just explained to him that he really should have thought about that BEFORE cladding himself in head-to-toe, all-in-one spandex.... no-one's gonna wait THAT long, sweetie... before running away quick smart.
Other than that... not sure if this qualifies as 'rude' exactly, but it certainly got my back up:
Unknown Person: hey u wanna team?
Me: Sorry, I'm on a mission map at the moment
Unknown Person: Wat mish u doing?
Me: Frostfire
Unknown Person: I'll help invit me
(I think about it - I'm halfway through the map by now but I suppose if they want to tag along - better explain my circumstances first though...)
Me: Okay then, but I've only really got time to complete this mission - I've got to log off in about 15 mins. Is that okay?
Unknown Person: Yea invit me
(I invite Unknown Person to team)
Unknown Person: Are u comin then
Me: What? Where to?
Unknown Person: Steel Canyon 2 do my mish
Me: I thought you wanted to join this Frostfire mission?
Unknown Person: Do my mish in Steel Canyon first
Me: Steel Canyon is MILES away, and I'm halfway through this one now!
Unknown Person: me and my mate r in Steel Canyon we need team 4 my mish now
Me: I'm sorry, but I'm not quitting this one now, I've only got 10 more mins to finish it
Unknown Person: do my mish now and i do urs tomorow
(I quit the team and resume my mission)
Unknown Person: Why u quit?
(I put Unknown Person on /ignore)
...Okay, I know it was cowardly, but I was afraid I might be rude in return otherwise -

It just really bugs me that street thugs fight better then soldiers
[/ QUOTE ]
You nailed it.

[/ QUOTE ]
Exactly. It doesn't even make sense; I mean, when you kit up the mercenaries they get: tin helmet and better ammo for their weapons. Kit up the thugs and they get: umm....tattoos and a vest? HUH? How does THAT make them better and stronger??
I've got a Dark/Merc MM up to level 21 so far (I know that doesn't sound like a lot but I'm a casual player and she's currently my highest-level toon.) She's the best out of the 4 MMs I have.
I also have a Bots one, and they're great... but if you're really getting into the game they can be very stressful to play when you're in missions. You're trying to sneak around picking off the mobs around the Big Guy... and all you can hear around you is CLANGCLANGCLANGCLANG-WHEEEEEEEEEE-CLANNNNGGGG!!! I reckon uber-villains in the Rogue Isles must have a preference for deaf minions or something...
-
[ QUOTE ]
I don't see why trying to solo Frostfire with a blaster is *that* stupid...
[/ QUOTE ]
It is if your Level 10 Blaster is being played by a relative newbie (i.e. me at the time) and so you also:
a) Decide to dip into lots of 'whizzy' pool powers - like flying! And leaping! - at the expense of... oooh, I don't know, powers that could actually damage something, perhaps?
b)Use up extra slots on things like Brawl, Sprint and Rest. Well, they're the least effective ones, so surely I need to slot them to the max with Recharge, Accuracy, Power etc.? Yeah? No...? Oh...
[ QUOTE ]
As for my most stupid thing, grouping my powers by theme. Then wanting to teleport onto a building when within a mission - and hitting the power next to it. The Pocket D VIP Pass
[/ QUOTE ]
Ohhhhhhhhhh! That must've hurt. Haven't done that yet myself, but have a secret dread of ever doing it. -

I spent the whole time until I could get another costume respec worrying I was going to get banned by a GM for corrupting any 12-year-olds that might be playing the game. (Then I realised I wasn't playing WoW...)
[/ QUOTE ]
Because all the 12-year-olds playing this game are already corrupted?
[/ QUOTE ]
Because all the 12-year-olds playing CoX are (mostly) mature and intelligent
...and yeah, already corrupted. -
[ QUOTE ]
[*]A mastermind? Tempting, especially since this archetype is completely different from anything Heroside has to offer. But aren't they very difficult to play later on? Controlling so many pets, with so many settings, and probably requiring more keybinds than I've got keys on my keyboard?
[/ QUOTE ]
I LOVE Masterminds - I've got four of them (I know, very sad...!) I also hate having umpteen keybinds, so I have only one for my minions, and, in conjunction with the basic commands in the petbar, that one seems to keep them out of trouble. It keeps them close to me when I need it and calls them back when they attempt to go running off over the horizon after a mob on his last legs heading towards a giant group of uber-mobs. (In case you're tempted to try an MM, the bind I use puts them in Defensive Follow mode, and I usually bind it to CTRL+W: it's /bind CTRL+W petcomall defensive follow
The downside? Once you get to a level where you're summoning and equipping at least four minions, it takes aaaages and it's TEDIOUS, not least because you have to do it everytime you log on, everytime you get off a ferry/helicopter, everytime you enter a mission... if the devs could fix that it'd be great, but other than that, a Mastermind is a blast, both literally and metaphotically. -
[ QUOTE ]
...However there is always points at which you grind to a halt unless you do some grinding.
[/ QUOTE ]
I have found this to be true myself. That's generally when I allow my rampant Badging Obsession to take full holdWell, if you're gonna grind you might as well do it with a goal in mind... e.g. mash shedloads of CoT Mages, get big shiny Badge for doing so. The Exploration Badges can be fun to get too - and also add to that sneaky sense of pride you feel when you look at your Personal Info menu and see how many you've racked up (or is that just me..?
)And they're among the easiest to get, particularly once you've got Fly/Jump type powers.
The downside? Badging can be addictive. Me, addicted? Noooo, never, I've got it under control, I can quit anytime I want... just let me get to my 50 total first...! -
Awwww.... sad to see you go, Stasis. I didn't know you for very long, but you helped me out on at least a couple of occasions when I asked dumb-newbie-style questions - and you didn't even point and laugh, so I'm forever grateful for that.
Have fun doing whatever you'll be doing instead - but look in on us from time to time, yeah? -
[ QUOTE ]
I was changing costumes earlier today and in one of them my arms were missing - my gloves were still there though, so I looked like a punk rock rayman.
[/ QUOTE ]
I had a similar one to that. I did a costume respec at the tailors and when I came out my skirt was on sideways - unfortunately it was the design with side cut-outs, and yes, the cut-outs were in, shall we say, slightly strategic places!
I spent the whole time until I could get another costume respec worrying I was going to get banned by a GM for corrupting any 12-year-olds that might be playing the game. (Then I realised I wasn't playing WoW...)

Mine was a two-stage Brain Fart:
STEP 1: Decide to solo the Frostfire mission. With a Level 10 Blaster.
STEP 2: March boldly into the room where he and all his cronies were, Leroy Jenkins-stylee, and launch my opening attack on The Man Himself. Oh yeah, a nice AoE Fire Blast should do the trick...!
It all ended rather swiftly from that point on... -
There are some GREAT names here! And I love the backstories too
I've got:
Elektra Static: A girl who was plagued with excess static electricity all her life, so decided to harness it for The Power of Good. My second and, up until recently, my highest-level hero; unfortunately, being a Elec. Blast/Dark Defender she's completely pants at soloing so she doesn't get many outings in Paragon these days.Still got a soft spot for her though.
Aurora Thunder: a grav/rad controller (the aurora borealis is caused by space radiation hitting the earth's atmosphere, so I figured that would fit with the rad/grav powers.) Got her powers after testing an experimental all-in-one flu medicine at the Institute of the Common Cold and suffering permanent side-effects. Used to have a truly dreadful costume that made her look like a cowgirl on her way to a fetish convention (what can I say? It was late, I was tired..) but have since fixed that.
Dolly Mistress: a Robotics/Dark Mastermind. Probably the only one of my characters where her look is inherently tied to her name; she looks like a little Victorian china doll gone horribly bad. I used the fat pigtails and the clown make-up on her face, and the Blast pattern on her clothes, to get a kind of 'broken doll' look. One of my highest-level villains, and probably a favourite.
Got others, but far too many to list. Ohhhhh, curse my alt-addiction! -
Oooh, oooh! I got one for Mastermind mercenaries....
1 - Make it so that those dumb level-one minions DON'T go "Ooooh, hey - there's a Wolf Spider with a laser cannon! Stuff gunning him down - let's go punch him to death instead!"
2 - Make it so that the 'Defensive Follow' command means that they stay near me, and NOT do the above.
3 - Make it so that when their health is low, they automatically run back to my side, so that my Twilight Grasp can actually heal them - again, instead of doing both of the above.
Grrrrr...... okay, rant over, I feel better now.
