Masterminds Health
MMs have the lowest health in the game. So that's normal.
Of course with BG mode on and pets absorbing 70% of that damage you end up being able to take about 2700 hps worth of damage if you can keep the pets standing.
A Masterminds toughness comes from BG mode and/or letting Pets absorb the alpha and healing or resummoning them. That's what they're for (especially tier ones )
Thx for your Reply Carnifax; I was thinking about this the last week, watching that I've been able to improve most of my 50s toon health by putting some IO sets in them, but my MM still had the lowest HP among them... it's a relief to know that it's a normal situation.

Added that several sets give def/res (along with APP), so u can reach quite high survivability.

IN ever got this alleged BG mode. How do you turn it on, what activates it
If you are in defensive and your pets are around you then you are in BG mode
"Well, they found my diary today.
They were appropriately appalled
at the discovery of the eight victims
They're now putting it all together.
Women wrapped in silk
with one leg missing
Eight legs, one body, silk,
spider, brilliant!"
So pets on defensive, standing still, eh?
dont need to be standing still, they just need to be near you, if you SS or SJ out of the range then you wont be in BG mode

BG = Defensive and Follow, afaik.
And yes, MMs rely on high defence and/or swamping the foe with so much firepower that they dont even have a chance to say '[censored] mates?'
Minions. Gotta love em.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

Bodyguard mode is on soon as you summon your henchies, if you give them no commands you'll stay in BG, in which case you either use a debuff or attack to pull enemies to their quick death (that's if you're ranged based, just run in if you're mostly a melee/PBAoE based MM)
I am the Blaster, I have filled the role of Tank, Controller and Defender
Sometimes all at once.

A quick way of putting all your pets in BG mode all at once is to use a bind. This is the one I use - just type the following into your Chat window:
/bind CTRL+W petcomall defensive follow
Now every time you hit Ctrl+W it will instantly put all your pets in BG mode - you'll know it's worked when you see their speech bubbles come up. (It also works to call them back if they decide to go tearing after some random mob that you ran away from five minutes ago )
And as others have said, don't worry about the lack of HP. With your little guys out in front you won't be getting hit a lot anyway, bwah ha haaaah...
BG or Body Guard mode works by sharing the damage taken by the Master mind between all the pets.
Divide the amount of damage dealt to the Master mind by the amount of pets plus 1.
For example... If you have 6 pets and are hit for 500 pts of damage.
Divide 500 by 7 (because MM takes twice the share of the damage the pets do) and you get 71.4 Damage.
Each pet will take 71.4 Damage
Master mind will take 142.8 Damage
This will not work if someone hits a pet. That pet would take 500 pts of damage. (and prob die)
But for this to work you must be in BG mode ans have your pets in range, its the same range as supremacy. (your inherent power)
BG mode is activated when your pets are set to follow + defensive. This means they will attack anything that attacks you... If you set them to aggressive to attack someone BG mode drops and you are squishy again.
Easiest was to do this is not to create a bind, but to make a macro. This means you can place the icon in your tray same as the other commands for youe pets.
To do this type...
/macro BG Petcom_all Follow Defensive
Hope this helps x
Consciousness: that annoying time between naps.
i think you will find the permade "heel" icon that can be found in your list of powers does the same thing.
Isn't "Heel" Follow Passive?
could be, not really played my MM for awhile
Heel is indeed Follow Passive and thus will not grant you Bodyguard protection.
I like to make all my pets say something on my BG mode macro - normally just things like 'Protecting you, sir!' or similar.

So THAT's how it's done - I've been wondering how for ages! (Hey, cut me some slack here - I'm old and more used to reading manuals in paper form than looking through screens on The Inter Web ) That's a very good system, I might try that one. Thanks Donna!
Speaking of MM health, what's a good mob to farm Damage badges off that won't kill a MM overnight?
I use that White Shield Icon and edited it to read "petcom_all follow defensive" and that gives me BG providing their in supremacy range.
The Arrow Icon became "Petcom_All Goto"
The Damage Icon became "Petcom_All Follow Aggressive"
Passive and Attack my target stayed same.

If the pets are in BG mode. They will attack whoever is attacking me? Or whomever I am attacking?
Whoever is attacking you.
Just tried this one out and it works. It makes the MM feel a whole different character. Instead of sending your minions forth you stroll in and punch a baddie on the nose. When he retaliates your flunkies swarm him and beat the mob to a bloody pulp.
There is but one tiny little problem. No fun melee attack options for us MM's!!!!!!

On mine I used a yellow/orange ice thorn caster. (can't remember which, sorry :S) it still took a while but I found anything harder just slowly killed me, unless I came in to use aid self every 15 mins or so lol. The trick is ofc to put a basic heal SO/IO so you can take more but you prolly already knew that.

"You should come inside the box... Then you'll know what I mean."
I was wondering whether it was "normal" that a lvl 50 MM like mine had 900 HP more or less... have I slotted him badly? Shall I change IOs sets and put another different sets on him?
He's a ninjas/dark miasma, btw.
