Somebody thought that /help or /h should bring up the ingame help faq. Thus access to the help channel became /hc.

    Holes in game

I once jumped up through a hole in Boomtown while traveling through one of the tunnels. Found a landscape of buildings, jutting at odd angles like giant crystals. Found my way back to the tunnel and found the hole that allowed me back into the real world.

I then /bug it with a /loc coordinates, which everyone should do if they find a map hole.

No, it sounds like he simply didn't know why anything would have been changed in that TF. You have to remember Castle is the powers guy. Other people are in charge of mission development, map making, etc. Not everyone in a large project are aware of every change being done.

Perhaps Hess was scheduled to have it's maps freshen up, reskined or customized in looks only. Changes that shouldn't have affected the TF at all. Castle may have been aware that kind of work was being done. We don't know.
  4. So, after 181 posts we now have confirmation that they were both bugged.

There's a procedure to follow when fixing software. You can't let individual developers fix whatever they want, when they want to.

    1) Bug is reported.
    2) Bug is verified and reproducible by test department.
    3) Bug fix is prioritized, scheduled and assigned by boss of developers.
    4) Bug is fixed and files submitted for the next internal test build.
    5) Internal test build is tested to see if fixed bugs are truly gone.
    6) Build is published to the test server.
    7) Build is published to the live servers.

Now imagine a handful of builds moving through 5-7.

Software is complected and emergent behavior caused by the interactions of numerous subsystems can lead to unforeseen consequences. Bugs happen. If you didn't expect one to pop up on a mission that nothing was supposedly changed in, it's not surprising that it wasn't caught. The shear number of missions, powers, animations, costume pieces, sounds, textures, etc. makes full coverage testing impossible on a game software budget and would require months of testing for every test build made.

The cry of undocumented nerf and the attribution of malicious intent on the developers followed by indignant outrage by some players when a bug rears it's ugly head and breaks their favorite mission/power/costume piece is just too common.

Not every change you encounter is an evil plot to deny you your enjoyment of this game.

    Checksum error

Are you running the downloader from a copy on the desktop (not a shortcut, the actual cohupdater.exe file)?

The updater, while installing the game, does not like running from the directory you are installing into.
  6. ParagonWiki: Issues catch up on the issues you missed.

    • You can now go back and do story arcs you missed via the Time Travel zone Ouroboros. Weapon customization (Issue 11).
    • Go way back to the time of the Roman Empire by joining the Midnight Squad, earn Roman style armor costume pieces. Hollows revamped. (Issue 12).
    • Earn rewards while off line with Day Jobs. PvP rebalanced (Issue 13).
    • Play player created missions at Architect Entertainment Buildings (Issue 14).
    • 5th Column are back. Two new TFs (Issue 15).
    • Power Customization. Automatic sidekick/exemplaring. New mission difficulty settings (Issue 16).
Also the addition of a number of $10 costume/minor power sets (Valkyrie, Cyborg/Tech, Magic, Science). A Mac specific client. Costume change emotes.

    IO Prices

Eldorado hit the nail on the head. AE gameplay alters the recipe and salvage supply distribution that existed before AE. However it doesn't affect the amount of inf earned. So drop in supply with an ever growing "money" supply leads to inflation.

Now as for requesting the devs to increase the drop rate for out of AE missions, why? The market inflation should encourage players to do more out of AE missions to supply the demand. Supply enough and the prices should start to drop.

Also the transaction record for the last 5 sold can easily be manipulated in the market. The best way to use the market is to have patience.

Since the Athlon II X2 250 is listed at £54.32 from the retailer linked to in the bit-tech.net guide. At the same place the Phenom II 955 X4 is £142.48, I would say that kind of blows their budget.

Fortunately I do have a PCI-E card which I think will suffice for now (GeForce 9500GT 1GB)

Looking at their all-rounder and replacing bits with items I already have (in italics) I think this is what I may end up with...

Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce 9500GT 1GB
    CPU: AMD Athlon II X2 250 (£54.25)
    Motherboard: MSI 770-C45 (£50.06)
    Memory: G.Skill Ripjaw 4GB 1,600MHz Cl9 DDR3 (£60.94)
Chassis: Some kind of metal box
    PSU: Enermax Liberty 500W
    Cooler: Akasa AK-876 (£14.36)
Optical: TTSTcorp CD/DVDW TSH552U which is IDE but should be OK on that motherboard. I'll need to drop my other DVD drive (also IDE) but I never used it these days anyway...
    Storage: 700GB SATA Hitachi

Which comes to a total of £179.61 + P+P, which is higher than I was looking for but I guess I can manage that.

Is there anything important I'm overlooking? Thanks for your help.
First the Athlon II X2 250 only "officially" supports DDR3-1066 (PC3-8500) memory, so you could shave a few pounds off by looking at DDR3-1066 or DDR3-1333 (PC3-10666) memory. Any loss in performance will be slight. Note the site used in the bit-tech.net guide now lists the G.Skill Ripjaw 4GB 1,600MHz Cl9 DDR3 memory at £73.59.

Second you also don't need to get the CPU cooler. The included cooler in the retail box edition of the CPU is more than adequate for stock clock speeds. If you have no interest in overclocking your CPU then it's simply an added expense. Anyways to get an idea of the kind of performance improvement you'll be seeing going from a single core 1.8GHz Athlon 64 to a dual core X2 250, here is a comparison between a 2.0GHz single core Sempron LE-1150 and the dual core Athlon II X2 250. Note: the game benchmarks are done with a much more powerful GPU than you have and those games are run at much lower settings to highlight what the CPU brings to performance.

You should see if the pricing for all the components you are buying are competitive from a single site instead of the hassle of buying them from individually from different sites. At the very least you may get a break on shipping and the likelihood that all the parts will be delivered on the same day.
  12. If memory serves me a 1.8GHz Athlon 64 is socket 939 which means you are using DDR memory. This means you will need to add DDR2 or DDR3 memory to your list of things to upgrade. Next question, do you have a PCIe or AGP graphics card? If you have an AGP video card you are going to need to save a bit more money before your upgrade.

For now I'm assuming you have a PCIe video card. bit-tech.net puts out a buyer's guide every month with UK and US pricing. Their Affordable All Rounder uses an Athlon II X2 250 CPU and an AMD 770 based motherboard. Note that an AM3 CPU can be used in a socket AM2+ motherboard and use less expensive DDR2 memory and slower HT bus.

An alternative would be an Intel E6300 Pentium Dual Core (Intel confuse-a-tron naming convention) with a P43 based motherboard from my $600 rig list. Sorry I don't know what pricing in the UK are for those parts.
  13. Honestly, requesting help while making the files we've requested to help us diagnose your problem unreadable because you decided to color them isn't the best way to get help from other players.
  14. Please repost over on the Tech forum along with a CoHHelper log file and a HiJack This log file.

    So no 2XP...

With the server login queues in place for I16 I can see them doing another reactivation weekend in either before the Halloween event or between the Halloween/Holiday event. Whether or not that would be the same time as a Double XP event I'm not sure.

But after a few rounds of bug fixing and a month or so post CO, I can really see a reactivation weekend to show off I16.

    Black Screen

You run it, click on the "Do a system scan and save a logfile" and then post the logfile.

My first guess is you are running nVidia's 186.xx drivers which is known to not work with this game. Later ones I believe work fine, so do 185.xx.
  17. And they tend to be good at announcing when these extra maintenance periods are the day before.

  19. Haven't we learned that pushing out a release just before the long Christmas/New Year holiday is a recipe for disaster? While it would be "nice" to have this on the store shelves before Christmas from a business standpoint we still have about a month's worth of patches for I16 needing to be done plus the whole zombie/Halloween event plus the Father Time Holiday event. I can see another booster by the holiday season. I'm going to guess March 2010 for Going Rogue.

Speaking of which how many thinks that the Natural Origin Super Booster will include exclusive animations for Super Strength, Martial Arts, Swords, Maces and Axes? Maybe a custom weapon skin or 3? Or is Mutant next?
  20. I have mine on a thumb drive. Around 2.8GB.

And since the game is freely downloadable, I don't see a problem.

    FPS issue

I wouldn't say it's a non-gaming card. Any Dx9+ discrete card will beat the snot out of the usual Intel integrated graphics nonsense that's targeted at business.

Essentially the GT 220 is a beefed up 9500GT (which is superior to the 8600GT BTW) with 50% more processors running about 10% faster. Yes, it's not a GTX 285 but it's not a slouch either.

Yea, running the game at 1920x1080 is a little much for that card. I'm assuming you are pumping this to a HiDef TV through an HDMI connection? Can't tell since you didn't post a CoHHelper report in either thread (hint, please post one). If it is a HiDef TV you could try 1280x720 and see how well the TV's scaler works (note this is the same resolution that an XBox 360 outputs).
  22. I wouldn't suggest the he builds his own. Plus my $600 build doesn't include an OS or peripherals.
  23. I still have a lot of fond memories of the Hollows, learning you can run up the war walls with Combat Jump, learning which route to take to avoid most mobs, Frostfire's ice slides, learning to use urban cover to make your way to the troll bridge. Good times.

They still don't totally outweigh getting a mission to recover Hera's jewel in the southeast corner of the map while you were still level 6 and XP debt started at level 5.
  24. There is a "known" problem that's been discussed that when you bring up long threads and you have the page size set to 500, you get that error message. That may not be the only way to get it but the question is did you do this, page length set to 500 posts and try to look at a very long thread?
  25. Maybe if I play my sonic/elec defender long enough I'll get there ... in a decade.
