FPS issue
Just noticing something.... that gt220 only has 48 processors cores versus the gt280's 240.
I haven't been keeping up to date with graphics card advances, but if what I'm seeing on Nvidia's site is any indication, the 220 is the low end of the current generation and probably shouldn't be considered a gaming quality card.
Be well, people of CoH.

So do you think thats the reason for the inconsistent fps?
I mean, i was playing today and it barely dipped below 30 fps, and ive played Champions, and gotten great fps, and then other times, its terrible.
Kinda just bugs me, because i havt been keeping up with GPU's either, and so i figured since it had 1gb of dd3 vid memory that it would tear through CoH.

The 220 is a modern low end card. The 1gb of memory isn't going to help you much when the gpu isn't very strong. It has about 1/5th of the power of the higher end cards. Also, what resoloution are you playing at?
CoH is a horribley unoptimized game graphically. It's way more CPU intensive than most games, and is still pretty taxing on the graphics card too. Even though you upgraded to a dual core cpu, if it's on the slower end it could also be holding you back. I remember when I was using my dual core cpu I would OC the sucker up from 2.13ghz to 3.6ghz and see a 10-15FPS increase with the same graphics card (8800GT at the time) at 1920x1200. I would wager that the same 2 year old 8800GT is more powerful than the card you currently have.
In your situation, I would definately say its your video card. Even if you did upgrade to a better one, your cpu could still hold you back (bottleneck) your over all gaming performance at higher resoloutions.
I would also recommend upgrading Vista to Service Pack 2. There are several items in there that have helped with graphics issues for others.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
I actually messed up...I have a quad core core prosessor.
And I also overclocked my card and saw a small increase, but mainly from higher demanding games(Resident Evil 5) where I could play at 1080p with 40-50 fps.
I run CoH at 1080 as well.
So...if i buy a new graphics card, which one should i get, and would I see a huge increase in performance?
Flux Tempest-Electric Melee/Willpower
Zaunte's Rage-Claws/Invulnerability
I wouldn't say it's a non-gaming card. Any Dx9+ discrete card will beat the snot out of the usual Intel integrated graphics nonsense that's targeted at business.
Essentially the GT 220 is a beefed up 9500GT (which is superior to the 8600GT BTW) with 50% more processors running about 10% faster. Yes, it's not a GTX 285 but it's not a slouch either.
Yea, running the game at 1920x1080 is a little much for that card. I'm assuming you are pumping this to a HiDef TV through an HDMI connection? Can't tell since you didn't post a CoHHelper report in either thread (hint, please post one). If it is a HiDef TV you could try 1280x720 and see how well the TV's scaler works (note this is the same resolution that an XBox 360 outputs).

Yea, I am, lol.
Well, at this point, the fps is tollereable, and i really dont have the money to go out and buy a new card.
But if i were to, would I see a huge increase in performance?
Also, my computer seems to be acting weird. At random times, the display driver will fail and crash back to windows. And like I said earlier in the post, the FPS isnt consistent. One time i play, i will get great fps, and another time, ill get terrible fps, and the only way to fix it, is to restart my computer.
Any ideas?
Flux Tempest-Electric Melee/Willpower

I suggest scrubbing the driver out and try a slightly older one and see what happens.
I am running a P4 and a 7900GS and while I do not have any troubles playing on maxed out settings, I will say that when I updated my video card driver last week I have seen some random oddities happening. I went back to an older driver and everything was great again.
(I play on a good ol crt monitor running at 1600 resolution)
Hmm, thats interesting.
Were you experiencing similar symptoms?

Still no CoHHelper output?
Ok, good luck.

Anyone have anymore guidance?
Flux Tempest-Electric Melee/Willpower
Zaunte's Rage-Claws/Invulnerability
Update Vista to Service Pack 2. There are several updates in it that help resolve various issues.
Also, you might try to find some updated drivers for the audio. As odd as it seems, I've seen updated audio drivers help with problems in seemingly unrelated areas.
I've seen odd issues with several products from Stardock, including the ObjectDock that you have and many of them have been resolved by shutting off the program. I know that their WindowBlinds will cause problems with CoH unless you exclude CoH from the skinning that WB does. These two programs may use pieces of the same code, being from the same company, and those code pieces may be what is at fault.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Ok, I uninstalled object dock, updated to SP2(i believe) I had a pretty hefty update, and my fps seems to be better.
Somehow, my video drivers were washed, and i took this opportunity to roll back my driver as stated above, to maybe see if this helped, and now the colors on my monitor are odd. WAY too bright, and this is after installing display drivers and such.
I played Counterstrike Source, and I was getting about 65-70 fps. Thats about what i was getting before.

Hey guys, im kind of hoping you all can help me.
I seem to be having a problem with FPS(Frames per Second)...and im not sure why.
I just got a brand new Asus, 8 gigs of ram, dual core 2.4 ghz processor, and a nvidia gt220 GPU (1 gig of dd3 video memory).
Im currently getting around 30 fps with settings maxed, and sometimes it dips down into the teens when in combat. Is that about right for my computer's stats??
Also, sometimes ill boot up the game, and my fps will be single digits and low teens until i restart my computer(weird)
I consider myself pretty computer savvy, but im stumped, i have no idea whats wrong
I even overclocked my graphics card
