An Ill/Kin controller can be running with Superior Invisibility and walk right by most mobs and with Deceive get a "pet" or two with no chance of aggro as long as the deceived mob takes no damage from the controller. If the controller does damage the deceived mob, aggro will come when deceive wears off.

In short they can't mez what they don't see. They can't mez while working for you. In more extreme cases, PA does a great job holding aggro while you "recruit" help. Get Deceive to recharge fast enough, which is easy to do, you can "recruit" a boss. Sure you lose a bit of XP but with Sky Raider FF generators on your side, Sorcerers healing your team, Trolls setting off their own barrels of explosives and Embalmed blowing up other Vaz, they are just so much fun to play with.
  3. My feeling is that a lot of people asking for this wants to turn the game into GTA: Paragon City.

And while the idea of whistling up a plane, car, motorcycle, flying carpet ... to take you to a mission entry point/base would look neat, I don't think it would satisfy the majority of people requesting this feature. When they say vehicles, they mean vehicles they can drive/pilot.

  5. You are looking for this thread.

Now assuming that is the issue, all we know is an ATI card is involved, the OpenGL hotfix for the 9.12 driver is found here.

But since we have little actual facts to go on we can only guess.

Edit: This info is for Medieval_Warrior who threadjacked this and not the OP.

Well Walk doesn't need a vehicle design tool. The amount of work required isn't in the same ballpark, it was simply a low priority feature that BABs knocked off during lunch for a month.
  7. Maybe Vigilance already surrendered?
  8. My take is that vehicles would simply be flavor and not bring anything significant to the game. With standard travel powers there is little need for "mounts".

I mean they would simply be an extreme alternate animation for travel powers while not in a mission. It's fluff. Then there is the work required to customize your ride. Then the animations for the type of ride. Then any control issues for the ride. It's simply too much development work for too little payoff.
  9. Actually the GTS 250 is a die-shrunk, overclocked, double the memory in some cases, rebadged version of the 512MB 8800GTS if you want to be exact about it.

    512MB 8800GTS -> 9800GTX -> 9800GTX+ -> GTS 250

Now we have no idea how much better a GTS 250 would be over an 8600GT in this game but this chart may give some indication (note that the 9500GT falls just short of an 8600GTS in performance, which in turn is an faster clocked 8600GT). So roughly 2.5-3 times the performance.

Now looking at a more current version of that chart will have the HD 5750 and HD 5770 je_saist is talking about. One advantage besides a bit of performance improvement is significantly lower power use.

Here are the GTS 250, HD 5750 and HD 5770 cards with 1GB of memory available at NewEgg.

    Hardware check

Integrated graphics is rarely a "good" thing when it comes to gaming. While the ATI HD 3200 (built into the AMD M780G Chipset) is noticeably better than Intel's integrated graphics, it's still sub par compared with any discrete graphics chip with it's own dedicated memory.

I agree with Hyperstrike, of the laptops over at NewEgg, that Asus K50AB-X2A for $650 would handle the game a lot better than that Gateway. Downside is it's $150 more.

    New laptop

If you can post the CoHHelper report or at worse a DxDiag report and a HiJack This report we can be in a better position to help you.

Otherwise you could be trying to run it on a toaster for all we know, doesn't help you if all we can do is toss out random guesses does it?
  12. Basically it was a quick and dirty solution to the high system requirements for Vista. The assumption being is every Tom, suit and Grandma can plug a USB drive into their computer and get Vista running less like a dog.
  13. ReadyBoost simply provide a read cache for your hard drive and when you are running on a platform with a small amount of actual system memory (512MB) and/or an old slow hard drive (5400 RPM or slower ie laptops) and a fast USB flash drive.

However once you have 1GB or more of system memory, there is almost no measurable improvement.

Don't know, don't get the magazine, went to the READ CURRENT ISSUE link, which lists as issue 201 and that was the only WoW article I saw. If it's not the right one, I apologize.

Like I said, didn't bother to read it.
  15. I assume this is the article the OP mentioned. I'm linking it simply so if people want to debate about the merits, we all have access to the same reference material.

Yep. Currently visible as favorites on her channel's main page.

    High praise indeed.
  17. Don't rush to Level 50. Nothing special there.

Don't worry about the Tank/Healer/AoE triad when teaming.

Everyone can solo, some faster than others but with the difficulty settings, everyone can solo.

Yes the zones can look empty, because nearly all missions are instanced. However you can find groups near zone entry points and the consignment house.

It's a consignment house, not an auction house. You state the minimum price you are willing to take for an item you are selling and you are listing the price you are willing to pay for an item you are looking to buy.

The tram stations in CoH have two entrances, the smaller one is exit only.

Again, no rush to 50. Enjoy the city or the isles, read the mission text and have fun.

  19. That's quite the list of needs for a motherboard yet not a lot of cash. It's a lot like asking for a car with a leather interior and under 6 second 0-60 times for $15K.

You are looking for a motherboard based on the nVidia 780i chipset. TigerDirect has this and only this that meets your requirements. Note it's a recertified board. They also have the eVGA version of the same board, also recertified for $10 more.

The only new MB they have that meet your requirements is $130.

Problem is everyone has moved on from Socket 775 for multiple SLi video card support, they simply aren't being made, at least in that price range. Even PriceWatch doesn't list many alternatives for the 780i and none for the 680i or 590 chipsets.
  20. My SWAG is that the trading code isn't set up to allow trade of certain items, it's all or nothing. Since Villains and Heroes weren't suppose to interact initially in any co-op manner (first co-op was Valentine's Event in 2006), nobody thought of the need to code that feature. That's why we have those X use temp powers that act like buffs that are cross factional.
  21. 1) Let me hold off a bit on this one.

    2) Assuming you get the Windows 7 DVD so you can do an install, sure. Just don't reformat the new drive until you can boot off the old one.

    3) It's a small self contained low cost liquid cooling system just for the CPU, something like but not necessarily this. The radiator is mounted with the rear 120mm case fan.

    4) Now considering that the i7-940 is only 10% faster than the i7-920, I personally wouldn't spend $160 for a mere 10%. Especially once you realize that games running at high resolutions with cranked up settings are bound more by the performance of the GPU than the CPU. As for OCing the i7-920, there are lots of guides at various tech sites that go into how to do this methodically and safely. Also the motherboard comes with utilities that can help.

Problems with this build. First realize the case has only one fan. Sure it has space for five more (1 front, 2 top, 2 side) but it only comes with one rear fan. Now there doesn't appear to be any options at iBuyPower to add additional case fans, just replacing the default ones with quieter ones. So you may want to consider ordering a case fan or two from NewEgg or switching to a case that has more fans to begin with, like less exotic looking CoolerMaster CM 690 which comes with three.

Not a big fan of unnamed PSUs, even ones as large as 800 watts. I would go with the 750 watt Corsair 750TX. At the very least it gives 4 PCIe power connecters instead of the two that come with the generic 800 watt.

Now back to 1). Be aware that few systems can play Crysis at 1920x1200 at any reasonable framerate (over 30fps) when all the settings are cranked to 11 (ultra quality). Crysis, even though it's two years old, will still drive powerful systems to their knees at that resolution and those settings. As long as you are aware of that going in that you will have to run at lower settings at that resolution, then you shouldn't be overly disappointed. Games with more realistic expectations for gamer hardware shouldn't be a problem.

What can I say, I like my flowing white locks.
  23. The only drawbacks with the OCZ is the significantly less amps at 12 volts, 60 amps with the Corsair Vs only 46 amps with the OCZ and the number of PCIe power connectors; four 6+2 on the Corsair Vs one 6 and one 6+2 on the OCZ. However that may have been a proper design decision due to the 168 less watts at 12 volts available on the OCZ and only a problem if you go to two video cards, each needing two power connectors.
  24. Only problem with dial-up and test is the size and frequency of the patches. I don't know about other dial-up users but I've found that the one I use will auto boot you after four hours and really doesn't like it if you try to reconnect immediately. This caps a session download to roughly 55-70MB per session. As it is right now, an Issue major patch takes me several days to fetch and a normal routine patch takes anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours to get.

The only way I was able to participate with the CoV beta (last wave) was because friends who played back then (but not anymore) gave me a DVD with a copy of their test directory since the initial patch was over a GB in size.
