Hardware check
You have more to worry about with the graphics card than the processor. I imagine that will run CoH, but not at anything near top settings. The standard "rule of thumb" is to look for a discrete graphics card with at least a "6" as the second character of the model number.
You could probably shave that a bit if you're not particular about graphics--I recently bought an Asus laptop with an ATI 4570 that runs CoH pretty well--but IMO I doubt you'd be happy with a 3200.
I did some checking around before I bought the Asus, and found that if you want a decent CoH capable laptop you should expect to spend at least $700-$800. I got the Asus for $600, but it was for my 11-year-old who's not too picky.

The graphics ...card (chip) is inadequate, especially once we get Ultra Mode. You probably wouldn't even be able to turn on Ultra Mode with that.

So I'm about to buy a laptop, and I'd LIKE for it to be able to run CoH at least decently well. Figured I'd doublecheck the specs here before I shelled out the cash though.
The one I'm looking at is a Gateway NV5211u. The two bits I'm mostly concerned about are the processo(AMD Athlon 64 X2 QL-65 Dual-Core Processor (2.1GHz, 667MHz FSB, 1MB L2 Cache)) and the graphics card(Chassis with ATI Radeon® HD 3200 Graphics with up to 1919MB of HyperMemory supporting Shader Model 4.0 and Microsoft® DirectX® 10 with AMD M780G Chipset8). I'm pretty sure it should be capable of running the game, but I got burned on the LAST laptop I bought that was SUPPOSED to be able to run it, so this time I'd like to make sure with people who know a bit more about computers than I do. Thanks for the help! |
Additionally, HyperMemory basically means it's sharing system RAM instead of having it's own dedicated memory.
I'm unsure of what your budget looks like, but something like this would probably be more appropriate for CoH.
ASUS K50 Series K50AB-X2A AMD Turion X2 RM-75(2.20GHz) 15.6" 4GB Memory 320GB HDD DVD Super Multi ATI Mobility Radeon HD ... - Retail
Integrated graphics is rarely a "good" thing when it comes to gaming. While the ATI HD 3200 (built into the AMD M780G Chipset) is noticeably better than Intel's integrated graphics, it's still sub par compared with any discrete graphics chip with it's own dedicated memory.
I agree with Hyperstrike, of the laptops over at NewEgg, that Asus K50AB-X2A for $650 would handle the game a lot better than that Gateway. Downside is it's $150 more.

But honestly, all the other CoH-capable laptops I looked at were even more expensive, so the OP may just have to bite the bullet and spend more than planned.
