Since SLi was first introduced by nVidia withe the 6xxx series, it was certainly designed to handle XP.
The problem is a memory addressable issue and that only recently cropped up when video cards started to have more that 512MB of memory each and more than 2GB of system memory. The issue is 32-bit OS Vs 64-bit OS. It's true that 64-bit XP is the redheaded step child for OS acceptance with very little penetration in the gamer space (0.56%). That changed with Vista and Windows 7. The increase use of 64-bit versions of those two OS chart with the increases in system RAM and >512MB video cards.
There are plenty of people using SLI on 2GB systems with two 512 or 768MB video cards in 32-bit XP. Is that an ideal set up with today's 1GB video cards, no. But three years ago it was.
It sounds like you're someone who spent a lot of money on a high end gamer rig and you simply have to come to grips with the fact that this game's 3D rendering engine isn't written in a way that works well with SLi and Crossfire. Maybe it will one day. -
Don't forgot that laptop GPUs may be named the same as a desktop version but is radically less powerful. The laptop version of the 5870 is only as powerful as a HD 57xx desktop card.
World Detail use to only effect the range an object had to be within to be rendered but with the new shadow and reflection features, it affects these as well. -
Yet another South America purchasing problem.
Good news it's not Brazil but I don't know if Chile is equally hosed when it comes to buying through the US online store as Brazil.
Oh, the site you bought the time card from, also sells inf, big NO NO so you may want to delete that bit of information. -
Well the GF104 is a sleeker, smaller chip than the original Fermi with considerably lower power requirements, similar to the ATI's previous GPU in the HD 48xx line. Word is that nVidia is doing a redesign of the full size Fermi GPU so we may end up seeing the dual GF104 board in future.
As it stands right now, the 1GB GTX460 pretty much replaces the whole GTX 2xx series in performance at a very attractive price, fixing the problem with an aging line. Now if they can fill in the gap between the GT 240 and the 768MB GTX 460 the the HD 5670/5750/5770 is filling.
See, I rather have competition at every price/performance point from both of them than one sitting back owning the market the way nVidia did while ATI was struggling with the HD 2000 and 3000 series. It was only when ATI risk aiming to make a Mustang rather than a Ferrari which then caught nVidia napping. Note that it was only 13 months between introduction of the HD 2900XT and the HD 4870 with 2.5x the SP number crunching power.
Same thing happened with AMD and Intel back during the dark days of the Pentium 4/D. The Athlon 64 and X2 were superior CPUs but they were also caught napping when the Core 2 came out of left field (from the laptop CPU design team) and leapfrogged AMD.
The result of both of these turnabouts was a quick round of price slashing that were great for us. -
Well it was ATI's turn to announce something to counter nVidia's GTX 460 rollout, especially since it garnered a lot of positive reviews, besides dropping the MSRP of the HD 5830 down to $200 (which was the price most reviews of the HD 5830 said it should be).
I doubt the HD 6xxx series is going to be another doubling of the SPs but more likely a size reduction with was clock speed boost. They may beef up the tessellation engine since it appears that nVidia is winning that battle in Dx11 benchmarks. Also the HD 5xxx series seems to take more of a performance hit with AA on than nVidia's 4xx series.
Only time will tell. -
Well it's a common mistake that everyone has done at least once after the introduction of IO sets. It's the IO set version of trying to use the exit area to board a train.

Well isn't range a Schedule B (20%) while end red is a Schedule A (33%).
Let's say you need to travel 600 yds.
Standard range of 100 yds per TP means you need 6 activations to cover that distance.
One Range SO would drop this to 5.
One End Red would keep it 6 activations but those 6 will only cost that same as 4.5 activations.
And since 6 activations will take more time than 5, you may actually get an extra tick or two of end recovery over the span of jumps. -
Definitely sounds like a bunch of Clickity Clacks swarming toward a Paladin build site or following Paladin to the "Paladin Park".

For the short term you can start him on a trial account, once you have the game set up (by making sure it works with your account), this way you both can play for the entire 14 days and he can get use to the game. Then you can upgrade the trial to the full game if he still wants to play in two weeks.

Big B is Bytes, small b is bits. I doubt you are getting 65 megabytes/second over wireless, even 802.11n.
Sounds.pigg is the biggest single file in the game at 310 megabytes.
I take it you haven't/can't try a direct network cable connection.
PS: I'm not going to use kibi, mebi, gibi. The IEC can eat my killer robot's shinny metal butt. -

I wouldn't say about the same as the HD5830, well it's true with the 768MB/192 bit version ($200) but the 1GB/256-bit version ($30 more) beats it outright.
Reviews that included the GTX 280 and GTX 285 puts the 1GB GTX 460 between the two. The HD 5850 beats all three by 10-20% but costs 30% more than the 1GB GTX 460 making the 1GB GTX 460 slower but a slightly better "value" from a fps/$ standpoint.
As always some games perform better with nVidia and some with ATI and sometimes the advantage is changes if the benchmarks are with AA on or not. -
Quote:In theory it should be automatic. However in practice it's not that simple, at least according to the game developer guidelines from nVidia and ATI for multi-gpu support. It's a litany of things of what not to do with your 3D engine if you want to see a performance gain from multiple GPUs and some of those things they discourage you to do can actually degrade performance in a single GPU system by reducing inherent CPU/GPU parallelism.... people have been complaining that CoX hasn't been multi gpu friendly for 6 YEARS. Games don't have to be specifically coded for SLI. That's the whole point of it. The driver and the cards are supposed to do all the work and render each frame (or split frame) without the software knowing it (in theory). Of course the way games are coded, some games work fine with SLI and others have issues even when made with SLI (or xfire in mind).
It's not that you have to write code to enable it, it's more that you have to write code to maximize it's effectiveness and to avoid code that could hobble it. It also has to do with how much work the GPU needs to do to render a frame. The more polygons, higher rez textures, complex shaders the GPU needs to deal with as well as the resolution, the better the odds that a second GPU will help noticeably. -
Well first, consumers in general do not upgrade their OS once they bought a computer. As far as they care, it's a toaster. They have enough problems navigating websites, I can't imagine the disaster if they try to upgrade the OS from the one that's installed. And eventually, after the Nth trip to the local computer repair shop to flush out the den of malware and viruses they will go buy a new computer, with whatever OS that's installed.
I know many professionals, including software developers who insist on running XP. Most aren't comfortable with the new UI and extensive "baby proofing". Some rely on apps that don't work 100% with Windows 7, most use niche products that interfaces some expensive external hardware or annoyingly enough, internally developed software that rely on IE 6's quirks with nobody willing to rewrite it or replace it.
As for more savvy home computer owners, ones who would dare to upgrade, Vista was such a bomb that many reverted back to XP. It really isn't until recently that with >512MB video cards and dirt cheap RAM that 64-bit OSes became attractive which leaves 64-bit Windows 7.
I would expect Windows XP to be in the single digits within 2 years as Windows 7 becomes the dominate OS. I just hoping that Microsoft drops the idea of treating the PC OS like a phone OS and drop the whole idea of a Windows 8 app store. -
Farming at Level 50 for purples. You both rake in the inf from all the kills and sell the loot you don't want.
Farm at AE for tickets and then use the tickets on random rolls in the pools and level ranges where IOs the IOs you are after are found.
Craft IOs that people are willing to buy but aren't willing to spend the time crafting themselves. These could be Common IOs or Uncommon IOs that are good for Frankenslotting.
There is a whole market forum with numerous threads on how to make millions. But it takes time and sometimes a luck of the drop. -
Way back when I found the WoW trial to be similar to the way our trial version is today, including money caps and no broadcast tell ability.

Yes, multiple reviews I've read on the new GTX 460 seems to indicate that it's an excellent card with the 1GB version easily besting the older GTX 260 and 275 cards, the kludge GTX 465, the HD 5830 and on rare occasions, in certain games, the HD 5850.
My hope is that it's price/performance will drive some of ATI's prices down.
Competition is a good thing. -
Oh boy, got to run out and get me one of those.
>I think we are in trouble, my keyboard just conned purple -
Quote:That's what I did pre I17. Kings Row in CoH and Sharkshead in CoV. Cap was just horrible, so was Talos or Steel.I'm having this problem too. It is very annoying. I'm mainly noticing it in busier zones on Virtue, like Steel, Talos or Cap Au Diable. One time, I was having a bunch of problems in Cap, so I switched to St Martial and had no problems there. No idea why this would be, but that's my experience with it.
Maybe since I'm from a era where computers were rarely as quick as you see them in TV and movies that I'm patient enough to wait until I know the DnD took. That's what I was forced to do pre-I17 as well so I'm use to it and leave a message window up with the market messages displayed to confirm each step. -
More players on Virtue means more people complaining while the overall percentage of players seeing this may even be less than on servers with fewer players.
All you need is it screwing up once on something big and you are going to voice your objections.
Personally I think the new system is considerably better than the old one in responsiveness and it doesn't map serve systems with 1GB or less of memory. -
I find CoV somewhat more boring than the CoH side. I think it's because there are fewer zones and you stay in a single zone for a lot longer than CoH. CoH also have multiple zones that cover the same level ranges.
While the reduction in travel time between missions is appreciated, the scenery is rather static. The upside is CoV is a much more dangerous place where there are many a purple critter in large enough mobs in Port Oakes that can be a serious hazard for a Villain have a way to travel off of street level. This can either make traveling to a mission exciting or a huge pain in the butt. In CoV the non "hazard" have rather manageable mob sizes for a lone Hero trying to make it to a mission entrance, at least not instantly fatal.
And soloing in CoH, you have contacts coming out of your ears (assuming you are using the contact system) so you don't need to use the police scanner unless you are looking to get a bank mission for the reward. CoV does have better mission stories, at least better than the original CoH missions stories. Zones added later or revamped later than CoV stories improved as the devs got better at writing them. -
A Gateway FX6831-01. TigerDirect has it for $1170. I'm a little fuzzy about the PSU but even a poor 750 watt would handle these specs with ease.

And this is a technical issue or bug how?
What does it matter. If you end up joining one and it turns out the group's name is "Pantie Raiders of Doom" or bringing up the SG list shows it's just you and it's creator then just quit. -
Well then let's see a Hijack This output then.
