That's exactly my point. No matter how fast you go through them, you'll be doing it one at a time due to all the single target damage. With SR, you have no damage resistance and, as someone that's played a lot of defense based toons, I can guarantee you that attacks will get through. There's even a mechanic built into the game that ensures this will happen. Placate will allow you to be gauranteed that some of those bosses will be incapable of even trying to attack you until you've finished off the lesser NPCs and are ready to deal with them directly. Even in teams, if your character does the kind of damage that you indicate it will, you're going to draw agro.

Why would you have no interest in taking placate? If you're in the mindset that it's only use is to set you up for another assassin strike then you're thinking about it all wrong.

With Street Justice you're going to have one cone attack, one AoE, and a whole lot of single target attacks.

With SR there are going to be times when you're just drawing more heat than you can handle thanks to having next to no damage resistance (especially while leveling up when you're unlikely to be softcapped).

At times like this, placate is great for getting a heavy hitting NPC to leave you alone for a little while so you can take care of some of the other things you're fighting. A good example of that is coming across a mob with two or three bosses and a whole bunch of weaker NPCs. Assassin strike one of the bosses, placate the other, and you've got about 20 seconds to clean up all the others before that placated boss can even think about touching you, provided you didn't hit them before the time is up which is unlikely since you're going to be mostly single target damage.

It's still a shame, the run through Praetoria is pretty fun and such a different experience to the standard 1-30. I'm sure there'll be more Praetorian stuff, but I really don't foresee them making anything more that's Praetorian -only-. It would be kind of nice if they used the badge trick to offer some distinction to Praetorian characters running around in Prime Earth.

I'm not really sure what you could do to Praetoria to make it more popular though. It doesn't offer anything unique except fluff, which is only worthwhile for so long.
I just want to take a moment to say that developing Praetoria further is most definitely not a waste of time or resources. This is a very old arguement that somewhat defies logic. The only difference between what's said here and older discussions is that it used to be said about villains.

I rarely looked at the forums in the past but, I used to regularly comment that I wished they'd develop more content for the villain side of the game and all my friends that did pay attention to the forums would chime in that the devs have no intention of doing that and prefer to focus on the hero side since that's where the majority of people play. The problem with that mindset is that it doesn't take a rocket scientist to look at the game and point out that there's more to do hero side than there is villain side so of course people are going to spend the majority of their time where all the content is.

If there are two TV shows, both with similar plots, production values, script quality, and both have actors of the same level of skill but, one of those shows suddenly stops making new episodes and just shows reruns that everyone has seen dozens of times over while the other one keeps developing it's storyline and making new episodes is it any surprise when everyone stops watching one of those shows to focus on the other or would you say that the fact that everyone chose to watch new episodes of one of those shows rather than never ending reruns of the other is proof that the show that stopped being produced should have stopped making new episodes?
  6. I've had fun when leveling in Praetoria. So far I've leveled two characters there, a dominator and a stalker, and am in the process of leveling a third. Aside from the blaster I'm leveling now (it burns through endurance really quickly), I haven't considered the content in the area to be overly difficult. The main reason I don't spend much time there is the way it was developed. I like the stories. I have fun on the missions. I think it's a great new alternative to playing a hero or villain. I just don't like the way it ends at level 20 and that from there on out, Praetoria is completely ignored with regards to any further content you do in the game. Even when you're leaving Praetoria, it kind of feels like nothing you did there matters because you can just pick and choose which side of the game you go to with no regard at all for the choices you made on various missons in Praetoria. If there was some acknowledgement of what you did in Praetoria while doing higher level content I'd be more inclined to play Praetorians. If there was enough content in Praetoria that you could actually level up to 50 there without exemplaring and playing the same arcs over and over, I'd make more Praetorians for sure.
  7. I don't know if I like all the suggestions made in this thread but, I do like the basic premise of it. The Rikti War Zone is co-op becuse it threatens the entire world, not just the heroes. The same applies to the new Dark Astoria and to the incarnate trials. I think Rularuu qualifies as a global threat to both heroes and villains so I don't see any reason to not make it co-op.

Might I suggest a Plant Control/Earth Assault Dominator? Instead of relying on your protective toggles, you've got a nice mix of mezzes to keep you from getting overwhelmed and smacking someone right in the face with a big rock is a lot more satisfying than you might think.
  9. Thanks, Timeshadow. This is exactly the kinds of things I was wondering about.

Compare that to an electric built for tanking.
If you're looking for something that can tank, are primarily interested in resistance numbers, and don't want to go with stone, I'd suggest electric armor. It's possible to cap Smashing, Lethal, and Energy resistance on one, it's possible to get energize pretty close to perma (I think mine is about 1.5 seconds away), and the endurance drain is an auto hit, throw a stun proc and some recharge in it and you've got a PBAoE autohit sapping power that has a chance of mezzing as well. You can throw another one in it's PBAoE toggle too for even more stuns.

Well now as the paragon store offers an alternative method to purchase the enhancement he wants, he has a choice, does he get ripped off by the player or NcSoft.
Nope! That player should not feel ripped off when there's no reason to pay that much influence or more for an enhancement unless it's purple.

Although in the grand scheme of getting influence, 500k ain't that much - just frustrating to pay that much for something that is common.
Go to AE instead. Get 1,500 tickets from a single mission and spend 8 tickets per roll for common salvage. Spend all of them that way while you're at it! That's 187 common salvage. You're sure to get at least 1 of the ones you're looking for and then you can go sell the rest for 500k a piece just like everyone else! \o\ \o/ /o/

If someone with more money than time wants to goin and cash-buy everything for a toon's setup? Let him!

When he burns out in 6-12 months after having "done everything", he's gone, but Paragon still got his money!
First off, don't discount mugging so quickly. You get to choose your own hours, be your own boss, get to be out in the fresh air, meet new people and socialize with them every day... Sounds like a job with a couple nice perks to me.

Not only that but, with an MMO I don't think they'd want to have the players suffering from burn out and leaving just so they can get a quick infusion of cash. I'd think the devs would want something that will keep people interested for a prolonged period of time, especially considering how big an impact word of mouth can make on a games playerbase.
  15. I have a lowbie peacebringer that I somehow forgot about for a couple years and I've started leveling it up. I've already worked out a build where thanks to lightform being permable now, it'll be at the resistance cap all the time and seeing as peacebringers already do decent damage in their human form I've been wondering, is it even worth taking the squid and crab forms on one?
I know the crab form has higher mez protection but, I can't think of any other reason to take either of the forms on a peacebringer now and was hoping to get the thoughts of people more experienced at playing them.
  16. If you're still looking for a new server to play on, you may want to consider virtue. We've got players from pretty much every major continent so you can find teams at all hours of the day. Redside is becoming a ghost town but, I can only think of one time in the last couple weeks when there was only one instance of Atlas and there's usually two or three of RWZ (where we gather for incarnate trials), and occasionally multiple instances of a couple other hero zones as well so we're pretty active. Just gotta watch out for the trolls (we have some pretty bad ones), and be mindful of the RPers (not all of them are crazy though).

I would assume that you mean your friends on this game. I'm also guessing that some of the things you enjoy doing with your friends is actually playing the game, meaning running tips, regular missions, task forces, and incarnate trials. Those are all ways to earn the enhancements that this thread is about so if you're doing that then why bother going and buying them off the market when you're already doing things that will get them for you in game?

This I actually see nothing wrong with since you're replacing IOs that are already acquired in game. I'm assuming you'll be taking them off and then putting them on other characters or posting them on the market which will help drive the market on the auctionhouse. It's when people avoid trying to earn these things in game entirely and make the paragon market their one stop shop that I think it'll be bad for the game.

True. It'll bring the prices down, on those IOs. Purples are already costing up to 800 million inf just for one and PvP IOs cost over a billion. Take a moment to consider how much those will cost when anyone that wants to can just go to the paragon market and buy an IO then save all their inf for those same ultra rares that you're after. Do you really want to spend billions of inf on a single purple or are you going to suggest that they put those on the paragon market as well?

It is not "pay to Win" Anybody who wants to can kit out a few characters to really I/O'd status. Thank you for stating that. It is "pay for more variation among your stable of mains." And if people have cash, and people want to give it to NCSoft, I think we can make magic happen for another couple years. And do it without anybody in our community paying a dime to Chinese prison guards.
I don't really see how what I said reaffirmed any of your opinions considering that everything I said basically amounted to it not being necessary to buy enhancements using paragon points or going to the gold farmers. Like I said in my earlier post, it's pretty easy to do without having to resort to things like that. I'm sure you've got at least a couple friends that have figured it out so why not save your cash and ask them for help?

And lets play hardball now. Cause you obviously have not been playing the game I have. Have you ever noticed, say, somebody offering to sell in game currency by the billions? What do you think, they been spamming that crap in game forever and have made no money? Lets just pretend some people who play our game have used their services. I know it unthinkable, but I suspect based on the fact they will not stop spamming that they have had some small success. What do you think players do with the billions they buy? That's right. They buy I/Os. Wow, youre coming right along. Okay here's where we start to run now. The Devs could be getting all the money that is going to chinese prison guards (a lot of the farmers are actually prisoners, read a little once in awhile) and the players who want to throw buckets of money at the game could actually be giving it to NCSoft.

Jeez, people irritate me when they have no clue about economics and logic.
Gotta disagree with this wholeheartedly. I don't RMT. I don't buy enhancements off the market, and I have multiple fully IOed toons complete with incarnate enhancements as well and I play pretty casually. I don't play the market game either. Perhaps there are people on this game that can't figure out how to do it but, that doesn't mean they should just make it a situation where money wins over all. What'd be the point of even playing then? Might as well hand NCSoft a blank check and not even log on since that kinda removes any challenge at all of playing. If you or other players haven't figured out how to pull it off then why not ask your friends that have to show you how to go about earning IOs quickly. It's what I've been doing for my friends.

Just wanted to point out that SRs cap DDR without even trying to while I think it'd be great if they did something to toughen up the set, you can't really improve DDR on them.
  23. I've come across the same problem and as much as I'd love it if they could just increase the base item count limit, I think you're better off doing what I've started doing. Just start off with the bare bones needed to get the point of the theme across to others and then once that's done start making things a little more elaborate bit by bit.
  24. [QUOTE=Rebel_Scum;4096172]None of the other stalker powersets take that into account that I know of, when balancing their own defense powers. Super reflexes, for example, has exactly the same numbers on all its toggles as the scrapper version except for Evasion which is somewhat higher to make up for the loss of the aoe passive.QUOTE]

Dark Armor does. The combined defense given by Hide and Shadow Dweller is almost exactly the same amount of defense you get from Cloak of Darkness.

I can see what you're saying but, personally, I don't think Cloak of Darkness is as bad as Shadow Dweller.

I don't think it's a great power either, mind you, because, just like with Shadow Dweller, it's the only power in the set that adds defense and it give so little that it makes me wonder why it was even put in the set (don't forget that dark armor was made before IOs so it wasn't to help people softcap with slotting IOs and that the devs have stated the game is designed around SOs) but, it does have a higher base defense so even if you just throw one enh in the free slot you'll get a larger return on that.

It also has the advantage of only taking up one of your power choices in your build, unlike for stalkers, that have to waste two powers to get the same thing so again you get more out of it.

I've got a DA scrapper as well by the way. It takes a second or two for NPCs to notice you when using Cloak of Darkness so as long as you keep moving you're usually fine.
