Shadow Dweller needs improvement

It's the T4 dark armor power for stalkers and replaces the Cloak of Darkness power found on brutes, tankers, and scrappers.

The stalker version gives players protection from immobilization, increased perception, and 1.88% defense. That's it.

I don't mean to go on a rant but, this has got to be one of the most useless powers in the game and would most likely be skipped by the vast majority of dark armor stalkers if it wasn't their only source of immobilization protection. While not having to worry about getting webbed is nice and being able to see where something has gone after getting smoked grenaded is always a plus, couldn't these two effects be put into others powers and Shadow Dweller be replaced with something actually useful?

Aside from Hide, which only grants 1.88% defense when suppressed, this is the only +defense power in the entire set which means that little bit of defense may as well not even be there. At the very least, change it from +defense to something like +5% damage resistance so it can stack with the other powers in the set and provide a little bit of extra mitigation.

As it stands, this is pretty much a useless power that people are somewhat required to take for the mez protection it provides and it definitely needs to be looked at.

This is already basically Combat Jumping as an auto-power. That actually seems pretty nice to me.

Suppressed Hide+SD gives the same amount of def as Cloak of Darkness, and CoD costs endurance. So it's not useless since it eases building for defense if you use IOs, plus perception and immob protection is great for a passive.

Also, it's not required either, you can get Combat Jumping for the immob protection if you don't really need +perception.

Stop and think about that for a moment. When they ported dark armor over to stalkers, they basically split Cloak of Darkness into two powers, Hide and Shadow Dweller.

True, they removed the endurance costs but, Hide still cost endurance when dark armor was made for stalkers which means that they didn't even remove the endurance cost when this change was made. It was just a fortunate side effect that took place later in the game when they altered Hide on all stalkers, and while the endurance cost is minimal, combat jumping does cost endurance to run and doesn't give any better protection from immobilization and doesn't give better defense either which makes that a worse choice for a dark armor stalker.

Considering the way they've been reexamining powers and sets in this game to bring them all more up to par with each other, I just think this is a power that could very easily be improved while they're already working on such subjects in the game without making it OP.

I won't argue with a buff of some sort.

That said, immob protection and +per in one power make it one I *will* take. (frigging ghosts...) So I'd disagree with useless - just "not as useful as it could otherwise be."

You have good points but then again, CoD is just as 'bad' from this point of view, maybe worse since its Stealth alone is like superspeed or the Stealth pool, not like Hide. My old 50 dm/da scrapper isn't built for defense so I barely used it unless I needed perception (I always take CJ because of the maneuverability) or ghost a mission (but that requires the stealth IO somewhere or superspeed besides CoD)

I can see what you're saying but, personally, I don't think Cloak of Darkness is as bad as Shadow Dweller.

I don't think it's a great power either, mind you, because, just like with Shadow Dweller, it's the only power in the set that adds defense and it give so little that it makes me wonder why it was even put in the set (don't forget that dark armor was made before IOs so it wasn't to help people softcap with slotting IOs and that the devs have stated the game is designed around SOs) but, it does have a higher base defense so even if you just throw one enh in the free slot you'll get a larger return on that.

It also has the advantage of only taking up one of your power choices in your build, unlike for stalkers, that have to waste two powers to get the same thing so again you get more out of it.

I've got a DA scrapper as well by the way. It takes a second or two for NPCs to notice you when using Cloak of Darkness so as long as you keep moving you're usually fine.
