I'd say that it more has to do with what they let you fight /with/ than how you fight. Although we were getting some fun new mechanics like momentum, the rest of it showed pretty clearly that the combat system was made around/slightly before the WoW Era. But, gawd, you could fight as virtually anything you wanted. Gajillions of powersets with more customization than any other game I've heard of.
You can change your blasts between six different colors, CO? That's nice. I can made radioactive blasts look like water. Or fire look like sand. Or my bio-armor look like tree bark, growths or just take away the icky parts entirely. And have a pretty, if not entirely extensive group of animations to choose from on either (of the first two). -
Faultline is more like an Earth/Earth tanker with the Earth Mastery ancillary power pool. Almost exactly, down to only taking the Granite armor shield. Ahem.
Maharaj, a Madness Mage, is a relatively big contact in Dark Astoria. There's also the Arch-Mages from whatever arc it was that they were from- they were on a mission map in the Shard? It might've been one of the taskforces.
Also, Hamidon. You could do something cool with the humans-turned-Devouring. Or a Quarry who was stolen away by a telepath or some Mad Scientist. Von Grun showed that it was possible with Devoured Pyriss. -
There's also the Hamidon. While he's not an overt earth controller, he does have limitless hordes of rock monsters and manipulates landscapes like hot butter. He just happens to have other powers that overshadow his spire-making abilities.
For dark/nether based powers, there's anyone from Night Ward, Black Swan, Madame Bellerose might've been dark...
You'd be hard pressed to find a 'signature' character from either side, barring Faultline and Ghostwidow. -

... Beam rifle and not assault rifle, right? Option B! It looks like some sort of ray gun bazooka thing, which makes for a stylish ray gun. An awfully weird assault rifle, though. -
On the plus side, it works on all pets. Lore pets become quite hard to defeat when they have all four of the pet protection procs.
-
They cut five minutes off the recharge time. Tier three was fifteen minutes, tier four is five minutes less (Ten minutes).
This is only true for the support side. The 'damage side' of tier four is still fifteen minutes. It was an incentive for more people to pick Support. -
Positron.
No, not the guy. The radioactive character! Who doesn't like a flamboyantly colored armored war horse? -
Yes, the numbers are correct. With just a few set bonuses, you can get a few seconds of double-black-dwarf-mire with considerable ease.
And if you take a closer look overall, you'll notice that the peacebringer powers are copies of many other existing powers in the game while the signature Warshade powers have unique effects- you know, picking off dead bodies, creating pets off dead bodies, nuking dead bodies, a drain that adds to your resistance, a powerful hold that... so on. -
Oh. Excuse me for stealing your thunder, but here's another idea to kick around!
Blitz Judgement:
TAOE, Lethal/fire damage. (Maybe just lethal, keeping in with the current scheme.)
Chance For: ... Hmm! Long immobilize up one side of the tree to the taste of added web grenades to the animation?
The character checks their wrist computer with its fancy little pop-up HUD display/ calls in on their oversized cell phone/ waves a cool, customizable weapon in the air and there's a very short moment of quiet. Then, some of the new missile animations, a few of the air raid gunfire animations from the new Sutter task forces, maybe some extraneousness explosions or new weapon animations go off in the designated area for a mess of mass, natural death from above.
I think that helps natural characters! -
Ahem. Few days out.
I'd, until this point, always used those defense sets to make my unbeatable(!) MMs and I can see where all the praise comes from. The demons/thermal was a test and 90% capped resistance- admittedly, with the IO set bonuses- isn't something to scoff at either! It solves those bad luck situations where a defense-based teir three can be one-shotted by a tough +2 or +3 minion.
Matter of fact, most AVs can't even one shot my teir one pets!
Naturally, it does have its weaknesses too, but, everything does. -
Sure you can! If they do actually manage to do any damage... just put your AOE healzorz on auto and let that pick up the slack with your ember demons occasional heal! Some incarnate powers and some set cheap IO sets and you can solo things like mission-arc Lord Recluse.
-
Demon/Thermal can be just as resilient with resistances instead of defenses, if you don't mind using your shields. It also has muuuuch more damage capability.
-
You also can't tab-target vault doors. Mastermind pets would never attack them, either, if they didn't have their ranged attacks. They just don't approach. It's a magical, placating set of vault doors, apparently.
Continue! -
Hrm. I personally invested a lot more into Circle of Thorns power in my explanation.
The circle of thorns have been, more or less, the sole collectors of all the primal magical artifacts and magical powers. As long as they have been active in Primal, the CoT always seemed to be 'around' when a magical artifact is involved in all but a handful of circumstances. Heck, without Arachnos, the only reason anyone could know about the Island of Mu would be if they found it through it's relation to the Circle.
On Praetoria, they didn't have an earth-shattering Rikti invasion. They're given the credit with bringing the Circle to light through their underground shenanigans. Although Praetoria has Hamidon's attack, its probably entirely possible that the nukes destroyed the overground, or he simply didn't find the Oranbegans or Oranbega itself and they're still effectively moping around and hording all the power in Praetoria. And that could never change, since they didn't get the chance to find new hosts and increase their number in the early twentieth century onward like they did in the less devastated Primal.
That's my take on it. I discounted anything changing in the past because, don't ask me to find -where-, but I remember seeing/hearing that Praetoria was exactly similar to Primal before all the nukes and Cole started going off. It makes me wonder where the Coralax went, though- they seem to support Hamidon's message. -
Let's see. Kinetics/Regeneration Scrapper.
Helena, a Mu descendant and regenerate who's more in touch with her past than most, would pick...
Alpha/IOs: Spiritual/Recharge-Healing-Defense: Mechanically and conceptually, naturally. Having grown up in Praetoria, she knew relatively little about Mu- and her covert operations didn't bring them up an awful lot considering her tech-preference. Of course, embedded deep in Arachnos, she found herself doing work with Scirocco and eventually came into contact with the Mu Treasury in one of his missions... level up to 51 on contact with some of the artifacts!
Interface: Diamagnetic : Her unique regenerative powers exponentially increased with her contact with Cole and the Shards she touched. (They're a sort of healing fire that works insistently to keep her body in a special state of homeostasis.) They extend from her body a short ways, intertwining with her kinetic blows to sap at the body of their victim and close out some of their regenerative abilities. The flames, since the introduction of her MoG power, have always had a habit of solidifying to deflect and devour blows. Now the ones prickling her enemies deflect and distort some of their blows before they even get to their intended target! (-tohit)
Judgement: Ion: ... Mu energy! Going Pyro and coloring it green seemed to lend a liiiiittle too much power to her regenerative powers, so, instead, her contact with the Well and the leftover tinglies from the Mu Spirit City has allowed her to access some of her heritage!
Destiny: Rebirth: As it can leak out of her body to harm and sap, it can leak out of her body to heal and restore- with special direction. Same as Diamagnetic, just in the good sorta' way.
Lore: Clockwork: She's Praetorian. But she's a solo worker, so Seers- a natural dislike- and Warwork- AI like an intelligent being, and something she's also grown to dislike- are out. Same with IDF. So now she has Clockwork. Yay. They need more Lore pets. -
I have a question about that build. As little as I know about the actual numbers, I have to worry if it has enough accuracy to hit things at around the 95% cap?
-
Interesting. Thank you the input- but, I'll edit my post with more specifics. That's far too different from anything I'd play, and loses one of the star/my favorite powers, focused burst.
-
I spent a lot of money on this character, but, I did it entirely solo. She was made before inherent fitness, so a few powers- such as Repulsing Torrent- and less slotted than I'd like them to be due to a quick respec.This is a level fifty build- I want it operable below for the occasional exemped Weekly Task Force, but it's not a priority. Only in hindsight have I remembered the helpful people here on the forums, and I wouldn't mind a little bit of critique and suggestions to improve my build. I was shooting for a few things when I made her;
- Higher endurance regeneration than consumption.
- High enough recharge to make hasten perma-ish. More is better woth Regen.
- The highest healing numbers I could muster and, equally, the lowest recharge on every clickie and toggle- Shadow Meld and MoG included on the recharge half.
- The highest ranged and melee or/and smashing and lethal defenses I could muster.
- Enough accuracy that I'm at the 'cap' to hit most enemies.
- I do not want confront. I do want every other power in both regeneration and Kinetics- with maaaaybe the exception of resilience. I do not want a travel power, so some random run-speed for when Ninja Run is disabled would be nice but not remotely necessary. It'd also be nice to have everything enhanced to the point of at least normal use.
Any tips? Any and all are appreciated!

I suggest a Kinetics/Regeneration/Soul scrapper. Two god-modes on short recharge, and each set reduces damage taken regardless of what said damage is. And Power Siphon on a low enough recharge is amaaaazing. I regularly solo X8 on mine, and I could do better.
If you want something more substantial, you'll have to be specific about what you like to solo with. Like; Ranged? Debuffing? Unbeatable defenses? Scrappers? Brutes? Stalkers? Masterminds? Do you IO? Do you Incarnate?
So forth. -
Hum... My Kinetics/Regeneration would have a power or two that played off of each power-set.
Kinetics: A fluffy, heavy aura like a jacked-up version of power siphon. Each melee attack gives a considerable damage buff. Each ranged attack gives a smaller damage buff. Some stack limit that'd take a minimum of four players to hit. She'd have a barrage of Focus-esque long range kinetics powers which everyone would ask for in the much wanted Kinetics Blast set.
Regeneration: Another fluffed up animation, sorta' like a black hole of shiny green regenerative powers. It'd sap at each person around her, stealing a chunk of their regeneration ability and adding some to her's- on top of her own regenerative powers.
Extra: Oh. And MoG'd look like a fiery explosive overflow of regenerative powers. Normal MoG-effects. Shadow Meld would be combined with Concentrated Strike and the visiual effects would be concentrated strike Ala greatly exaggerated 'kinetics lines' swirling around her that naturally deflected physical damage- hence raising her defense. And her Fear Incarnate would effect more then minions.
Ya'. Incarnate girlie ain't no pushover. She would more or less completely cancel out straight damage dealers. -

Like the mane of a stallion. You know, one freezing it's nads off in New England lumberjack country. And I agree, only if hair stays static!

Well, I didn't mean use -all- those suggestions... But good on you!
Glad to help and good luck with paranoid businessman of death. -
You're welcome. Let's go through some stereotypicals:
- Everyone is stupid. They really are. At least, he thinks so! He wants to get a hand in as many organizations as possible to change and fix them. Depending on his nature, this could be anything from educational systems to government. Maybe he wants to change the regime from the inside- in the sneaky sort of way!
- On a similar note, certain, specific people are really stupid! He wants to put together some MASSIVE convoluted scheme to get a lot of them in the same place by infiltrating their organizations with his various contacts and underlings. Then he wants to blow them up.
- Maybe he's paranoid. Really paranoid. Like, Omahgawd the zombie apocalypse is coming!- paranoid. He wants an armed guard of contacts and underlings to save his butt and build up his shelter.
- Maybe he wants to be -rich- for the first time in his long life. All these contacts in these businesses, government, etc would certainly help with that. He could even make straight deals with people he 'saved' to give him money and continue paying for their life to continue!
Go crazy. The very last one could lead him into being a Rogue. -
Here's an example:
Misterevilempath strolls the streets of Oakes, Martial or where-ever-else, looking for his next victims. Possibly through a little trickery or through simple luck, he finds schmucks on the end of their rope*. After very slowly getting them to sign something- maybe a magical contract- he heals them up and now has a new minion or contact. Voilà!
He eventually builds of a army of underlings and sits behind the scenes like some sort of (metaphorical) mastermind.
Dual pistols? He can threaten to torture them if they don't sign!
*(Dieing!)
