So i want to be able to make my pets neigh indestructible. i can't decide between bots/ff, bots/dark, and ds/therm. Any suggestions? (actually i'm more interested in the reasoning behind the suggestions.)

Bots/FF

Only downside is your inability to kill things as quickly as other combinations.

EDIT: Welcome to the boards. You're a good man, first post in Mastermind section. I like the cut of his jib.

Demon/Thermal can be just as resilient with resistances instead of defenses, if you don't mind using your shields. It also has muuuuch more damage capability.

But you can't take a coffee break and come back to room of dead enemies and fully healthy pets.

Sure you can! If they do actually manage to do any damage... just put your AOE healzorz on auto and let that pick up the slack with your ember demons occasional heal! Some incarnate powers and some set cheap IO sets and you can solo things like mission-arc Lord Recluse.

You're seeing this all wrong here, my man. I'm talking from the ground up. End game you can put barrier on Auto and watch your Incarnate little fuzz balls tear it up with practically anything.

I'd go for bots/dark or thugs/dark.

Either primary does a good job of buffing their defenses up. Then you have /dark which has Shadow Fall. Stack it with Maneuvers and you're getting close. Use the defense boosting unique IOs (I think you can slot them in Dark Servant).

Then with /dark you stack Fearsome Stare with Darkest Night and you've probably floored any critter's chance to hit you.

Then of course you have every other advantage /dark brings to the table: Tar Patch, Healing, Dark Servant, Howling Twilight, -dam from Darkest Night.

I like the idea of having all of those henchmen, a Servant, and two Lore Pets, personally. You'd be a one man army!

Agreed x10 after the "fix" to TG's radius. It's ridiculously easy to cover the whole army now in green #s. Although it should be noted that the Def-boosting IOs don't work in Dark Servant. Unless I'm mistaken, Dark Servant doesn't take any Pet or Rech Pet dmg IOs, only hold, heals, tohit debuff, etc.

You are coorect. They changed that shortly after (or maybe before) power customization. Needless to say, my Merc/Dark was sad.

Ah yes. Gang war. Too bad about Dark Servant not being able to take them.

Of the 3 you're considering I'd go with either Bots/FF or Bots/Dark.

Bots/FF is very much fire-and-forget, simple to run, and not much will threaten you with that combo. On the other hand it's got very little for boosting offense, and being less active can be kinda boring to run (you'll probably want personal attacks just for something to do).

Bots/Dark can achieve similar mitigation, it's just you have to be more proactive about doing so, and being primarily through debuffs there's always the possibility that you don't catch everything.. However it'll also have more offensive capabilities, and is generally viewed as one of the strongest MM combos.

I wouldn't choose DS/Therm over either of the above if your primary criteria is nigh indestructable pets. Don't get me wrong, it is a good combo, but my experience of running one is it's not as durable as either /FF or /Dark - I find that pet HP is sufficiently low that even if you cap their +resist they still drop faster (well, more often) than if you were capping their +defense (or in Dark's case, nuking everyone's -tohit, -damage, and soft-controlling them).

/FF on a mm IMO is a snoozefest

if you want something with just a tad less defense but more killing/debuffing capability then i would go with /traps

reasons:

force field generator gives the same def values as dispersion bubble

room for lots of slotting possibilities in traps (devastation chance to hold IO in acid mortar + lockdown proc in poison trap = win!)

if you go with demons, hell on earth can be used on your trap pets as well as slotted with the 4 pet uniques (very useful if your pets are dying too fast to be useful with hell on earth, just throw it on the FFG and it becomes a mini demon spawner lol)

pretty much every mm set is pure win with /traps, i know it wasnt on your projected list but its definitly a very good set to consider

FF Gen gives higher values than Dispersion Bubble.

Ahem. Few days out.
I'd, until this point, always used those defense sets to make my unbeatable(!) MMs and I can see where all the praise comes from. The demons/thermal was a test and 90% capped resistance- admittedly, with the IO set bonuses- isn't something to scoff at either! It solves those bad luck situations where a defense-based teir three can be one-shotted by a tough +2 or +3 minion.
Matter of fact, most AVs can't even one shot my teir one pets!
Naturally, it does have its weaknesses too, but, everything does.
