I may give it a go in between my CoH off time. I'm taking a short hiatus because I am playing God of War 3 on hard mode. A game that truly takes so skill and reflexes.

But back to the thread. I played WoW a long time ago for like a week. Man, I just did not get into the whole dungeons and dragons theme. But i do find their pet interesting. And it's cool that their costume pieces actually mean something. I love my CoH though. I grew up reading comics and collecting the comic cards. What can I say...this is my "niche" but I'll be damned it I run around my real life city wearing tights. LOL!
You really should give aion a chance. Its great from a storyline perspective. The only thing I dont like about it is its pvp system that basically forces you to blazed to 50 if you want to stand a chance against others. Outside of that I love the game. I been playing since launch. I have only logged into CoX during 2xp weekend because Aion takes up so much more of my time. The crafting system is much better than what we have in CoX. It has a gambling type of effect to it. Sometimes you win big and sometimes you lose big. But its fun. Most folks will complain about grind but I have yet to see grind in Aion yet.

What gives? I've been playing CoX on and off for a number of years now and I hate seeing the numbers dwindle. The streets are much more quiet than they used to be. Less raids going on. Ah, but the costume contests are still a plenty....in which I rarely win unless I happen to catch an early morning CC where like 10 people are there. (BIASED JUDGES!)

I just want to see CoX reign supreme. Do you think Going Rogue and Ultra Mode will help alot or just a little? I wonder how many folks will even be able to enjoy ultra mode with the system requirements and all.
Easy answer, they dont do **** to advertise this game at all thats the problem. Hardly anyone has ever heard of CoX but have heard of WoW. More people have heard about Aion than they have heard of CoX. Seriously what should have been done years ago is put game play trailers in the movie previews whenever there is a Super Hero movie to come out. That to me will reach more players than some stupid magazine ads will.
  3. I see incarnates as probably being fluff at best. What its going to end up being is just all those suggestions for things that we wanted but they are just end up being universal enhancements that you get at level 50. It will be something like anti-knockback enhancements that turn knockback into knockdown. Something that gives more regen or more defense or more hp. I doubt its going to be full powers like in some of the power pools. I would be shocked if it was.

As for as the powersets go, I think electric control will do nicely, its still not illusion for dominators but I will take what I can get. As for as kinetic melee, I dont see it doing well at all. You would think by now the devs would know knockback on teams = bad. Most players simply do not know how to position critters to minimize knockback or they scatter everything to the 4 winds. Essentially what we have been given is energy blast but at a closer range. So unless they allow these incarnate levels to be given at level 1 I see kinetic melee being phail. Now if all of the powers do knockdown instead of knockback that might be a different story here.

Things I would love to see rolled back.
    Travel Power suppression
    Phase Shift nerf
Hami-O nerf that made them into Dual SOs
Resistance cap per AT nerf. Seriously no one is going to get there without a ton of IO and/or outside help.
ED if not for all powers then for a select few like hasten, stamina, travel powers

Things that make no sense and that are extremely unfair
How this game is so AT mod dependent when it should not apply to certain powers, for example why do defenders have to get the best bonuses for leadership? A leader could be anyone it doesnt have to be a defender. If anything if they really wanted to push it, masterminds should get the highest bonus because they are the very definition of leadership in this game but they dont.

Dude lets be realistic here. We all know they arent going to buff this set again till about 3 years from now after they either get tired of the qqing about HoB deaths or they get around to buffing blasters again. All hope for this powerset went out the window the minute they pushed it live just so they could get more GR pre-orders. Right now the only way I can make this set work for me is to pair it with psionic manipulation for the drain psyche, psych shockwave + HoB combo or to do it as a kinetics corrupter. Any other combination is just asking for deaths.

Why not just cut down the animation time, lower the recharge, or reduce the animation, etc.?

If you want to argue that it does not do enough on its own, go for it. But then state how to improve it by the numbers (again, damage done, KB chance, chance for random damage, recharge, etc.). Work with how sets are already set up and work, rather than throwing a dart at the wheel of "random buff that might work thematically."

I can wish all I want for Full Auto to make mobs cower in fear from the sheer amount of bullets being fired at them (even though that could make sense "thematically), but that doesn't mean it's going to be listened to, or adopted, by the devs. When Full Auto was buffed recently, it had its animation time reduced, for instance.

I can see the most traction happening from damage, recharge, or the extreme range of damage that it can do, personally. The animation is longish, but around what most of the nukes are. For balance, it just needs to be on par with what all those nukes can do (which is where the real debate comes in).
Thats the thing if they cut the animation time down it does not look as good of a power. The defense thing or the untouchable state thing would work the best for it as well as a huge damage increase. I can see them making this nuke use 1/3 of your end bar instead of the full thing.

QFT. There is no reason why Hail of bullets shouldnt give like a 45% defense to all for the duration of the animation or an untouchable state for the duration of the power. Hell they could do the same thing with full auto. I predict in 6 months most blasters would end up respecing out of Hail of Bullets due to the poor damage to the amount of times it gets you killed ratio.
  8. I went with mental manipulation for mine. Its the most survivable of the other sets. It gets an extra aoe even if its small so that helps a bit with the lower damage of the other attacks. And there is PSW to have a chance to stun the minions while your stuck in that 4 second animation for the hail of bullets. Aside from that using any other secondary is a death trap.
  9. I remember when I first reported this as a problem. The devs dont seem to care about the issue. What I ended up doing to resolve it in my own way was to always make sure I had someone on the team that could either put critters at the slow cap or someone who could put them in a knockdown field (ice slick/earth quake) or someone with an aoe immobilize. Its sad that they have made crowd control essential to the game if you want to kill stuff in a timely manner now. I dont see why they just dont remove that line of code from the game. It truely serves no purpose. I could see if it was like other MMOs where the critters would run and get help but in this game they run just to be annoying. Its not like its going to change how the battles going to turn out if I kill them now or 45 seconds later when I catch up to them, it just adds unneeded time to kill the mobs. So devs either make critters go get help or just remove the damn run feature as its just getting in the way.

    Try 3 years.

I can only see playing this set now as a corrupter. I have asked for opinions in another thread to see what others have done with the set. It doesnt look good at all. Its like when they gave elec armor to stalkers all over again. Personally I dont know what was going on in their minds when they let this set go live with such horrible damage with no aim power either.

Dominators - I can never level one very far without wanting to scream at seeing the words "Too tired" on my screen all the time. Villains suffer without any form of recovery buff before level 20 and dominators seem to use more endurance than anything on the planet.

Warshades - damage is too low to justify the extreme knockback. They scatter stuff everywhere. I've also kinda lost my love for khelds as I've leveled other character. I absolutely refuse to take the ugly forms as I'd rather see my costume or display my costume to others anyway. A game that prides itself on customization really needs an option to hide the forms appearance.
About Willpower, are you insane??? Thats the only true defensive set left for tankers in the game that does not either make you fugly or require too much IO investment to be viable in 100% of all teaming situations. You need to give the set another look.

About Doms, Doms are awsome now, they dont use much end, in fact they often have great end useage from domination. You might want to give it a second look now that they do great damage.

Everything else I wont comment on.
  12. Sets I wont play...hmm...thats a good question. Alot of sets I dont play is for looks of the powerset. I refuse to play them till the look gets updated to something that looks better. There are some sets I dont play because they are too squishie. There are some sets I dont play due to retarded dev design decisions.

Stuff thats just too fugly to play
    Spines
    Ice Armor
    Thorns
    Stone Armor
    Crab Spider
    Necro Masterminds

    Stuff thats too squishie
    Fire Armor
    Dark Armor
Invulnerability (set is no where near as good as it was back in issue 3)

Stuff I wont play due to design decisions
Dark Armor-I gave this set my all but I can no longer play it, its just not fun having to worry about endurance even when you got +recovery IOs and bonuses slotted out to the gills

Claws on a stalker, no real aoe in the set. The single target damage it has doesnt justify the lack of aoe where as stuff like energy melee it does.

Sonic powersets- I hate the sound they make and the defensive set is pretty lacking in powers that benefit the caster, the tier 9 is awful for the defensive set.

Gravity Control-the set has awsome end game potential but I cant justify being dead weight on a team for 26 levels. Its just not fair to a team to do this whether its a dom or troller. This is the one set that needs to break the cottage rule if nothing else does by making wormhole come at lvl 12.

I could go on forever with this but I am not.
  13. I wanted to get some opinions on Dual Pistols. I only got a chance to test the corrupter version when I was on test. My question for you all is this of the 3 AT who do you think gets the most out of DP just using the DP set, who gets the most out of DP when paired with primary and secondary? Who will have the easiest time solo? Who will contribute the most in a group?

I was thinking of going DP/Kin on a corrupter so that in groups the damage will be high and you get scourge. I was also thinking about DP/NRG for the extra range because I dont think DP will kill fast enough like the other sets do to stay alive at range. Or possibly DP/MM so that I can at least use drain psyche right before the tier 9 so that I have a chance to live thru it as a blaster. If I do the set as a defender I was thinking Cold or Traps/DP for the good resists debuffs for grouping. What do you guys think. At this point there are just too many possible choices for this that make it too difficult to choose.

However, I do agree that a recommended setup would be nice, if it doens't have one already.
At this point though I dont even think the minimum listed will run the game thats the point. I remember helping a ton of folks in the tech section that had similar specs that could not even get past the login screen because those specs listed are so underpowered for what the game really needs. I think it totally needs to be redone.
  15. You would think by now they would put the realistic requirements needed to run this game. They still list the junk from when CoX first launch. Dont they realize this needs to be updated? Anyone trying to run the game on something that old is in for a shock. All its going to do is create problems with people rage quiting cuz they cant run the game decently because the requirements lie.

To be honest because storage is so poor in this game its why I had to create so many personal SG bases across multiple servers. If we got account based storage I could see holding off on making these on every single server.
  17. My only gripe is the lvl 20 for EATs and VEATs thing. I dont think its fair to those who did get to 50 for them. Plus with all the changes to xp lately its no where near hard to get to 50 like it was back in the day. I dont see why this change had to happen. To me this is like giving folks the Task Force Commander accolade without doing the upper level TFs. I am not going to comment on the Posi TF changes until I see it for myself exactly what they did. Personally my fear is that they are going to gut the merits for the whole thing and still make it not worth running even as 2 seperate tfs.

Ok now I can finally fully return to the game. This is the one feature I been begging for since day one. I was going to quit CoX for good if this feature wasnt in by GR.

Small Edit. I just want to ask who is responsible for this feature. Who ever it is I want to send them something. Pie, cake, money, I dont care, they deserve something big for this. You guys just dont know how big this feature is for me. Just give me the name and address of the person who coded this and I will send them something.

Actually I am sort of doing that now. I am playing Aion for the most part because this game is pretty much dead till GR. I am only keeping an active subscription to test out GR beta when they finally start it. If it ends up sucking then I will finally quit CoX because there will be nothing else left to hold my attention in this game. The last time I actually logged in for longer than 30 minutes in CoX was like May of last year. That should tell you something right there. I been playing this game since the begining and its just progressively gotten worse in my opinion in terms of the quality of the content.

Content to me is new zones and arcs, not a few ported powersets and crayons for powers. I dont count the AE because what its turned into. So many arcs in that thing but almost none are worth doing due to the devs nerfing the crap out of tickets and making the critters give crappy rewards now. Dont get me wrong I didnt approve the AE power leveling but at the sametime the fixes they implimented were just not fair to the authors and totally hurt the AE to the point where alot of people abandoned it. That being said, my hope is that being able to play the other ATs on the other side of the game might be enough to hold my attention long enough for more real content to be created. We will have to see how it all works out in the end.

How about the complaints when they up the monthly fee to absorb the extra hardware costs (ongoing, not just up-front) to deal with performance without upgrading the engine?

I'm not saying I don't want these things too, but just saying "make it happen" isn't very realistic.
We have already had more than a years gap in real content. So I fail to see the difference. All we have gotten is 2 crappy TFs, a few ported sets, and the crappy AE. I would have rather they spent that time on fixing the game engine instead.
  21. OP does have a point. We should not have to keep upgrading our systems to compensate for their bad coding and bad design decisions. The way things are setup it wont be long before the game just wont run well at all on most machines. Thats what got me so worried about the Ultra-Mode stuff. I have a nice rig that runs Aion excellently but chokes to death during rikti raids, zombie raids, and the ITF. It took a good bit of upgrading to compensate for the crap that is Grandville.
  22. In all seriousness not allowing the complete pack early is going to hurt their pre-orders a ton. Its a good marketing ploy to hook us in with the free powersets early but like many of us we are thrifty due to the economy. I dont play CoX enough these days so pre-ordering for the sets now does nothing for me because I know I wont be playing till GR comes out.
  23. Looks good except for the change to EATs and VEATs. I think it should stay at 50. Getting to 50 is stupidly easy now compared to how it was back in issue 1. We already level fast as hell now. If you cant get to 50 then too bad. To me changing it to 20 cheapens the whole experience of getting to 50 to unlock them in the first place. If this goes thru then why not have capes at lvl 1? We already progress passed all that point in the lore so there is no reason to still restrict it. Changing these ATs is just like cheapening the experience of getting the positron badge for his tf.

The reason I see this helping is I have a lot of semi-valuable (obliterations, crushing impact, numina's....) IO's on my SS/Shield the time and cost of respecing to get those IO's off of War Diety means that I will probably never get those off of him. It cost around 100 mil to buy a respec, I can only get ten IO's and I have used all my vet specs. I can still turn a profit by buying the respecs, but I hate spending 100 mil just to get semi-valuable IO's back. If I could more easily move those onto the market or onto another toon I would not need to rebuy them.

I could see a problem arising with people taking highly valuable IO's and moving them around differn't toons, I believe that the time it would take to move these around would be a big enough hassle to keep people from doing it too often.

Also this would not include changing the powers or slots, just the enhancements.

Just would like to hear your comments and concerns, good or bad idea?
Wow so respec recipes have gotten to 100 million now. Thats just disgusting. Oh well I still got a ton of the free ones.
  25. People who dont like arctic air are idiots. Thats you main damage mitigation next to your aoe crowd control. Powers I would skip are shiver and flash freeze. I am not too sure about the chilling embrace thing I have heard that with that, arctic air and your other ice attacks you can get enough -recharge to start effecting AVs.
