Quote:David, I have been dying to see a motorcycle mount in this game. Since we're talking about mounts here, a motorcycle travel power has been requested since the early days of this game. I remember Positron or some other dev. saying that a motorcycle would not be doable since it would block doorways in instanced maps. My argument has always been why not only allow a mount/motorcycle be available for use in the open world? I think it would be easily programmable to write an instance in/out line of code to check if one is inside a mission or not....Would all of you really want an iceslide before, say, other flying platforms, some kind of mount, etc.? Let us know what you're dying to see in game!
I have craved a fricking motorcycle in this game for so long. I'm not talking a crotch rocket either, I'm talking an old school chopper or cruiser for use by players a la Ghost Rider. If you're finally considering mounts in this game, a motorcycle would be number one or number two on that list. Just imagine what it would be like for a player to just be able to cruise around Praetoria speeding at 90 m.p.h. and taking in the scenery, not flying or teleporting his way through, ignoring his surroundings. Even the tunnels connecting the zones would get some use, hell, even the roads would get some proper use for once!
Thanks! -
I have to say that is really great that Zwillnger ended up getting the job that he did. While I agree the documentary was quite depressing at times, I'm sure in the end it wasn't so doom and gloom for everyone else involved. The one jobless guy who went in for Game-A-Holics Anonymous at that woman's house later went on to get his life together, get mobile again, and get back to work.
Just like in that actor wannabe documentary about people posing as super heroes on The Boulevard in L.A.; the nice sweet girl (posing as Wonder Woman I believe) was able to get some work on True Blood and some other minor roles. Good on all of them! -
I don't know what the deal is, but the NC Soft launcher keeps prompting me with the message:
"WARNING: The NCLauncher has detected a Windows Virtual store folder for City of Heroes, and an install in Program Files. The NCLauncher would like to remove the folder in your Virtual Store; not removing this folder could cause errors. Can NCLauncher remove this folder below?"
The weird thing is, City of Heroes is installed and plays perfectly fine, but it is not being listed under my installed games tab on the launcher and it seems to not be outright detected. If I hit play, however, I can load up the game fine.
What is the error causing this message to appear and how do I resolve the problem? -
You know, it's such b.s. in my opinion. On my old account, my first (and favorite) character was Phuerton Skuerto, an all energy blaster. I ended up playing that character so well that I would find myself constantly leading teams. I would open up with a sniper blast and the team would then run in to take care of them. When I finally had the influence to I.O. him out, I was a killing machine. In my first run after I was finally I.O.'ed I remember I took a team into A.E. to test out my new build. The team stood back in awe as I was popping off nova around every 3 minutes just about and just annihilating everything that came my way.
Knock back is great enemy mitigation and the complaining melee A.T.'s can suck a big one because my energy blaster quite literally saved the day on numerous occasions. It's all a matter of knowing your character class! -
Thank you Neo. I'd give you some rep if it still existed!
-
Any of you know if I'll be getting my 400 points and Time Manipulation power set even though I just re-subbed today after not being subbed for a week?
-
I've got my money on the self-duplicates as well. Zwillinger says it's really cool and given the recent new tech in this game I wouldn't doubt that it will a be power you get in the late levels.
That being said, somewhat off-topic but not, I re-sub every month manually because my play time is quite sporadic, since my account is active now, will I be getting my 400 points and the new power set since it will be active through July 1st? It would suck big, big bouncy balls if I don't get it. -
All Hell, you're right on. High end salvage and many previously expensive enhancements have come down slightly while others are seeing a more drastic decline in cost. I'm talking about common and uncommon salvage; the price is going up all across the board because demand is so high and because no one is playing enough normal content to provide for the market. We are seeing a 2000% mark up on some items. This is not fun if you're in your 30's and looking to I.O. until you hit level 50. It cost me 25 million to I.O. out my level 28 defender the other night; it should not have taken that much to do so.
-
I take it that you're speaking to me? You didn't need to create a new thread to address what you had to say.
As far as my influence flow, I can make a few hundred million easily and I do know how to play the market. The issue is that I don't have a farmer in the traditional sense and I refuse to make one (such as a fire/kin controller). So I use whatever level 50 I have at hand, which right now just so happens to be my tank. With that being said, AE farming is a very long and arduous process, boring too. However, I do farm tickets every now and then to keep my WW slots full.
As far as not wanting to wait or paying exorbitant prices? I don't think anyone wants to be paying 10 to 20 (or more) times the normal cost of anything. I don't have time to play every day so I don't want to be waiting to buy something. Selling is obviously a different matter. Before the incarnate trials, if I wanted a circuit board immediately, it normally had cost around 500 if I wanted to wait or that much or slightly higher if I wanted it immediately. It did not cost 200 times the amount.
It's all well and good that some of you in this forum have the time to be farming and logging in every single day, but for many of us out there we simply don't have the time to dedicate as we once had. The only positive this has brought is that sought after enhancements have come way down in price -
When I zoomed in on a screen shot of the new female face texture used in the steam punk super booster still, I was really taken aback at the realism of the face.
I'm asking if the new face technology that is being released soon applies to enemy groups as well. In other words, is the new tech. being applied game wide or is it only for P.C.'s running about?
Does anyone have any idea? -
So I rolled a new character a week or two ago and finally got around to crafting some inventions for him. Much to my chagrin, invention salvage, especially common and uncommon salvage, is through the fricking roof!
Can some of you start playing normal content again so I don't have to pay 100k inf. for a circuit board? Thanks. -
Thanks for all of your input everyone. Hindenburg, I think I'll be going with your modified build sans Combat Jumping though. Otherwise, thanks for the fix. I'm more or less used to I.O.'ing for tanks, not defenders.
Hope to see you guys in game some time! -
Post the datachunk along with the rest. There's a check box at the bottom left to do so when you export the data. That way we can load it into our own Mid's and be better able to see what's going on with your build.

So this is my new defender. I think I got the gist of how to slot from looking at some of this forum's posts. Now I know many of you may disagree with how I slotted for Snap Shot and Fistful of Arrows, as well as for the lack of Ranged Shot (I don't think I'd want a snipe on a defender), but after messing around for a bit with invention sets and the numbers, I just couldn't seem to get enough damage out of them. Snap Shot and Fistful of Arrows are already slotted up on my defender and the damage even now seems anemic. I'd like to think the debuffs that I have will somewhat compensate for the lack of damage on those two powers.
Some of the I.O. set choices are intentional as I want to try out debuffing as well as keeping down the cost of my build as much as I can while trying to maintain some sense of quality. Overall, I think my build looks good, but I'd like to know what you guys think.

Thanks for the input. I think I'm going to go for a more of a middle of the road approach then. I'm only somewhat of a hard core player and I'll try to balance out recharge with defense as best I can.
On the plus side, defenders seem like they're a bit cheaper to IO out, at least less so than a tanker or scrapper... Am I wrong? I don't go for all purples mind you. -
Thanks for the offer, but I can play the market very well
.
I'm actually level 20 now, slotted, and I can say that storm summoning already seems fricking powerful. I just got hurricane and I'm able to take on multiple yellows at once.
I'd have to agree with a poster who said that a storm defender is more of a tank mage. It certainly seems like that is how my character is going to play later on.
So, since he has steamy mist and hover, should I try to bolster this defender's defense? I was always of the opinion that a ranged AT outside of a blaster doesn't need much defense because they're weak by default.
Should I really take tough and weave? -
Think about the situation though. Every TF, SF, trial, and zone event are all working properly with the exception of the Eden trial. I'd say it only makes sense to fix the last remaining bugged TF in the game.
Hopefully we'll be able to run the Eden trial whenever we please within a month or two's time.
The only things to be fixed after that at this point would be base raiding (which would not be possible to do at this point), spelling errors, and minor mission bugs in the game.
Thanks devs for looking into this! -
My question is, why isn't there a hell scenario zone? I know Recluse's Victory is supposed to somewhat be like that, but it just doesn't feel that way if you ask me.
I'd love to see a sentinel like future from the X-Men animated series from the 90's. Everything was in ruins with futuristic prison camps set up amidst all the rubble. Sentinels patrolled the streets and were extremely hostile everywhere you went. I'd love to see giant warwalkers patrolling a section like that in Praetoria maybe with Resistance fighters set on hostile going around, duking it out with them with possibly some reformed Powers Division guys helping them out. -
It's been bugged forever only allowing levels 39-41 be able to start it. Any higher than that and you can't start it.
Devs, can you please finally fix the Eden trial? -
Thanks for the input Stormy. I was thinking of taking Stunning Shot and Thunder Clap, so that's not really an issue with me.
As far as ancillaries go, what is best for a defender? Should I invest in the leadership pool? The only thing I have so far is Hover and Flight. As far as the medicine pool goes, I'm not really interested in self heals. I hated using it on my blaster as I found it helped me very little in game and I couldn't stand the pausing of my character that it caused. That's what greens are for!
Are there any skippable powers too? I know Gale and 02 Boost are crap powers and from what I've read people say take 02 Boost and give it 3 to 4 slots. I think Gale is an awesome control power though! Anyone have any thoughts on this? If I take Gale, how many slots should I give it and what should go in? -
Simple question since it is featured as an upcoming WST.
I hope to Rularuu that the devs finally fix this trial. Almost 4 years into this game and I never once have been able to try it. -
Thanks for the feedback guys! Guess I shouldn't wait that long with the other AT's huh?
Slotting time it is! -
To start, he's my first defender and I chose the power set combination because I always wanted to try out both archery and storm summoning; so I ventured to capitalize on the defender archetype.
Almost eighteen levels in and, well, he's not doing so well. I'm loving the main power set, storm summoning, and I love flinging arrows at bad guys, but it's taking forever to take anything above my level down. Please keep in mind that he is entirely unslotted right now as I don't start slotting until I hit about level twenty.
However, running slotless aside, I can already tell that its damage output will be very negligible in the long run. I run for the first twenty levels the way I do because if a character's viable without slotting until then, usually it's a keeper for me. I'm not having problems with dying or anything as I've hardly died at all. The damage output just seems to out and out suck and for some reason my gut's telling me that I won't see a huge improvement even if I start plugging inventions in now. I might reroll a storm summoning/electrical blast or ice blast, but I really wanted the weapon for theme reasons and because I want Rain Of Arrows!
Am I experiencing what I am simply because I haven't slotted or is archery really that bad a pairing with my main power set? I know I.O.'ing it out to hell will make it a viable build in the long run, but will it be on par with other defenders with the same main power set or am I just gimping myself here? I don't care about redraw issues by the way, only pure damage.
Sorry for sounding dumb here, but despite this account being new, I'm actually a three or almost four year veteran of the game now. I've typically played tankers, blasters, masterminds, and more blasters! I do know how defenders are played though and I know that base damage from attacks is supposed to be supported by the main power set. Archery just seems like it may be severely lacking when paired with storm summoning. -
I just wanted to make the dev.'s aware that there's a bug within the "Come to Blast Furnace's rescue!" tip mission. After beating Maelstrom for the first time you are then instructed to defeat Blast Furnace. I am assuming that Maelstrom is supposed to respawn at some point because I saw two thumbtacks on my map. One literally said "nothing" and the other said "target". I crossed along those targets numerous times and cleared the map. Maelstrom did not respawn so I'm assuming there's a trigger issue with this. I had to get a G.M. to help me complete the mission.

That's why I gave the game two years myself. The game is obviously on the tail end of a slow decline. I think after nine to ten years this game will be shut down. It isn't Asheron's Call or Everquest and it certainly doesn't have large powerhouses like Microsoft or Sony Entertainment backing it. Yet the fan boys and girls of the game always deny that the game is on a decline. I'm only saying there's not much life in this game because there isn't. If the figures drop over the course of this year like they have in 2009 to 2010, there will no longer be a City Of Heroes. End of story.
