While this definitely ruins several character concepts (ie: a normal, skilled person), who truly cares about such pesky things as concept, when it's become obvious in this game that defense is bad.
Defense to things is far worse than resistance, because then it makes PvP harder. This change can't possibly be for PvE, because I can't even count the numerous times my Regen scrapper has been on a team with an SR scrapper and the SR dies at least a few times, while my Regen is fine and dandy.
Thank you for at least taking away the heavy death aspect of SR, even if you couldn't preserve the actual concept of a well-defended character.
What you've done, in Hero Systems terms, is to get rid of any characters who have high DCV and skill levels, and instead gave them Combat Luck with no Roll needed. -

Erm. No. PvP will be an optional part of gameplay. Always.
The changes in I5 had very little to do with PvP and a lot to do with boring PvE. It's that simple. No conspiracy there - I think I've stated this several times.

Why do I think Statesman lied (or spin doctored) about the "It's not because of PvP! We nerfed for PvE!"?
Because after the initial nerfage, when it was shown that the heroes would have too much difficulty in PvE, the powers were not adjusted back up. Instead, the accuracy of many mobs was allegedly nerfed.
I've been in CoH since beta, and recall many of the lies Statesman has told (spins). The game is still playable, just more annoying. When my team or SG-mates get frustrated, I say "Hey, this is Statesman fun!"
PvP doesn't do well, it's not set up interestingly, and their eggs are going to fall out of that basket and break. -
Heh, thanks. This was posted after me and a team were waiting (we did get some RP in, so all is not lost.) But those poor people sitting in the lake for 15 hours a day!
The other monsters I've seen, and I'm almost always seeing Adamastor in DA. He glows a lot. I'll always announce it over broadcast. Kraken spawned on my tanker in Perez Park one day, but he has about 5 spawn spots there. Once, he was in a tree and blended in. Babbage is pretty easy to find up in the way north of Boomtown. Paladin has a good spawn rate, as well.
My one beef with the Croatoa ones is the "team with the most damage gets the badge". I wish it were more like Lusca, where just helping gets you the badge. I felt extreme guilt because I have a level 50 energy/energy blaster and whatever team she's on will be the one that does the damage. So far, players have been nice about teaming up and trying to make sure everyone gets to share, but it would be nicer if everyone who was trying managed to at least get the badge.
Competition for spawns does not befit CoH well, especially when the devs have gone out of their way to make KSing affect a player minimally. Leave the competition for the upcoming PvP zones. -
I'll pipe in about this being very short-sighted of the game developers. Especially in the case of the Quarterfield TF, which is simply pure unadulterated hell and boring and makes the Positron TF look like a happy romp. I will do the Moore, Justin and Faatham TFs over again because they were fun. I've told people that I won't do Quarterfield again unless some RL sex is involved.
While I agree with the dev decision to not do a broad datamining, they should at least award the badge via petition if the petitioner has the souvenir. The souvenir is something easily checkable by a GM and hardly takes time, as opposed to the "Can you search the month of October for the 14th at 9:32 pm?"
Out of all the TFs, the only one everyone seems to agree that they don't want to do again is Quarterfield. So that one, at the least, should be petitionable, IMO. -
Just about nobody I know uses SG Mode. Heck, even the SGs I know that dress alike (Evolution, Gods of Virtue) might actually be in non-SG Mode and just have matching outfits.
This idea, to use the SG Mode time to determine part of Prestige, is yet another idea thought up by the devs while they don't actually know how their game is played by the players.
I'm in 3 different SGs. The first one (Project Rebirth) never uses SG Mode because we're all from CoH Beta, when it was bugged. Plus, each character is an individual, not the Fantastic Four. Also, we tend to have altitis, so we're actually teamed most of the time, but in various alts. In order to have a base, we now have to put every single alt into the SG and stay in SG Mode and sacrifice our chest emblems.
The second one I joined with an alt (Guardian Force) rarely uses SG Mode, and I actually made a costume in those colors but with my emblem (heart) because that character's chest emblem is very important to him. The third SG I joined (Dauntless Reverie) is so big they split into 3 SGs forming a coalition. They also stress individualism, which means SG mode is only used for meetings, not missions.
So, I now have 3 SGs, none of which would qualify for bases or be able to upgrade/maintain them, if this SG Mode system is in place. -
Since my PM was never answered
I'll try here.
1) I'm throwing my hat into the ring with Windstorm, Orochi and Zarkonen1. It would be a great boon to be able to at least have a timeline/history of the current villain groups in game, so that, at the very least, players who base their characters' backgrounds off in-game events/characters can at least all match each other to some extent. And of course just for the information. Will there be some sort of mini-bible that players can look up information about villains' past histories? The current webpage is very non-informative.
2) And throwing my hat to another mentioned ring. It would be nice if actions we took in an arc or mission affected the way it played out. I'm not expecting HalfLife 2, but will there ever be branching endings that aren't static?
That's about it. So far, I've enjoyed the tales. Thanks. -
Defiance has been useless for me the past 3 days on Test, both as a level 50 energy/energy and as a brand-new lowbie Archery/energy. It doesn't save you from death, and the fact that accuracy also doesn't increase means that I spend most of the lowbie's defiant points missing the mob.
I was fine with my blaster as she was, so Defiance is just neutral for me. -
And here I thought it was going to be an article about why Azuria keeps her job after losing dozens of magical artifacts, plus letting every hero keep something as dangerous as the hub of the Wheel of Destruction.

Project Rebirth
Leader: Black Atom
Officers: Vegan Zombie, Mysticka, Quickshot, Witch Engine, Skywatch, Blacktop Devil
Preferred Method of contact: Via the forums on the webpage. http://project-rebirth.ipbhost.com/
The IC description
Project Rebirth is a group of individuals who have come together to help make life in Paragon City better. They have in common a desire to protect the innocent, and a belief that even in the greatest darkness, a light can shine. Most believe that criminals can be redeemed, and as such, should not be killed except in the most desperate of circumstances; several of the Project are, themselves, rehabilitated villains now trying to make up for past deeds. No situation is so serious that a moment of levity cannot be created, and, even when in the thick of impossible odds, they never lose hope. This the common thread within the disparate array of heroes who have come to Project: Rebirth - the knowledge that within the shadows, there is also the light.
The OOC description
Project Rebirth is a moderate RP group of mature players who enjoy doing missions and RPing with each other. Efforts are taken to team up, to match levels in teams, and, except for certain instances (Archvillains/Trials/TFs), the archetype or build of the character has no bearing on teamups. Plots and RP are generally in-group and of a small-scale level. The violence level stays mainly 4-color. Lots of pain, punching, bruising, shooting and being shot, yet, miraculously doesn't result in fatalities.

I sorta met you (Statesman) at last year's GenCon and will be at Gencon again (Indy) this year. Looks like there will be CoH RPG games; they're listed in the events catalog. As usual, Gencon registration is a breeze.
I can't make it to Origins, but will send the player of Ascendant in my stead.Be gentle with him.

Happy Anniversary.
From the woman in the green hat. -
As the original post says, you have to be in actual Europe. That is what the "European residents" refers to. The residing in Europe. Living there, having an address there, and a basic all-around life in Europe.
I can attest that Elmwood Park (previously known as East Paterson) is not in Europe, although I think flying to Europe is faster than driving down Route 4. -
A question from the girl in the green hat:
Last night, I attempted the cape mission. It was my mental controller (30) and a Dark/regen scrapper (32) and we went into the mission. All seemed well. We cleared the first floor, then I went to the elevator and clicked on the doors. The Perez Park screen came up and Mission Failed.
The Scrapper had to go to sleep, so I went back and did the contact run and figured to solo the mission, to see if it was still bugged or just bad luck that we'd failed even without getting close to the capsule room. Now, soloing a Mental/Empathy Controller is not that easy, and I chose to Confuse the drones, making them shoot the others, at which point, I could take down the drones easily enough. I made it to the capsule room, and saved the thing. Mission Complete.
My question is about the 1 thing that was different between the 2 missions. The Duo version had Communications Officers (which, as a blaster, I always take out before they can do anything). The Solo version had no Comm Officers.
Can Communications Officers call to different "floors" of the map? Could the first attempt have failed because a Comm Officer on the first floor managed to open a portal before I could Dominate him? -
The way I figure, the VIPbadge is an accolade that bestows "powerglide" on you. Powerglide is not superspeed. If you don't already have SS on your character, Powerglide is as fast as Sprint. It does have some uses, aside from cosmetic, for starting characters.
I'm one of the people who pre-ordered the game and got Prestige Power Quick (the sprint with bright streaks). What I wound up doing for a while, until I could get to level 14, was I slotted normal Sprint with endurance reduction and Prestige Quick with run speed enhancements. This gave me quicker running around the zones, but let me a quick way to run around in missions without using up too much endurance and without wasting a second slot on sprint.
So, the VIP is an accolade. The Crey accolade gives you a gun. VIP gives you powerglide. -
I used to hang out in a level 34 character (who flies) for hours, looking for Babbage in Boomtown, during Beta test. Been playing the game since February. I know he used to spawn in Boomtown, but very rare. That ;ed to a lot of people camping Babbage in Skyway and ksing a TF out of theirs.
I hope they can put in a Babbage that spawns in Boomtown similar to how Kraken and Adamastor have been, if for no other reason than to not ruin the fun of people on Synapse's TF.
And my client is untouched and DA is foggy, and you can see Adamastor from about 200 yards away. He's huge.
