Including the Shirley Crabtree Appreciation Society?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Shirley Crabtree was a horrible worker and was equally horrible towards his fellow professionals in the industry and was caught plenty of times showing absolute distain for the fans that came to see him when the TV cameras were turned off. He only ever got booked high up on the card because his brother was the promoter.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And you know this how, exactly? Because I knew him since I was born, and he was NEVER like that to me, nor did I ever see him acting like that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well if you never had any issues with him then that’s fair game. I'm sure that despite his reputation in the wrestling business he was a sound bloke with immediate family and friends and neighbours.

Being in the wrestling industry myself for some time, I soon figured out that there is a tonne of BS that goes around about people and I would not have said anything if only a handful of people spoke ill of him.

It is hard for me not to say though when everyone I ever met in the business whether it be old time wrestlers that worked with him, promoters, venue managers, ring crews and old school fans that met him in person always say nasty things about how he was with people ether in the business or fans of it.

As far as commenting on his work, you only have to look at footage of his in ring performance to see that he was not a very good worker. I did not have to hear stories from the older guys about getting unnecessarily injured because of the way he didn’t safely work, old footage of him can make me cringe when he performs moves to another worker with me saying "Damn! That had to hurt" but not in the good way.

The fact that he for most of the time he only ever did Tag Matches with more younger talented workers doing most of the work while he stood outside waiting for the “hot tag” did not improve the perception of his work ethic. Don't get me wrong, on the showmanship side of doing that he was good at that and it served a purpose. It allowed younger guys like Dynamite to get the rub from being involved in a tag match with him. But when it came clear that the public began to see how much better the other talent was compared to him and his and his brother's refusal to allow the transition to happen for newer stars to take the ball, as seems to be always the case for pro wrestling throughout history, problems were going to happen and affect a great of lot of people that really did not deserve the issues that came as a result.

It would be unfair of me to say that the Crabtree's were solely responsible for the demise and continuing stagnation of the British Wrestling scene. It would be inaccurate of me though to say that they are not a major part of it though.

The spectre of their "legacy" still haunts the British industry and even to this day is preventing a lot of hard working people in this country from getting the break they deserve in the business.

If what I am saying is upsetting you because you knew him personally then I am sorry. I am not aiming to upset or insult you. I am just coming from someone that managed to get into the same industry he was in and repeating what the industry thought of him.

It’s not a nice situation when I look at it. It almost like a reverse situation of Jake Roberts and his father. Grisly Adams was very well respected by his peers in the industry and they all spoke very well of him but as Jake said, "What was he like at home though?"

In the case of Crabtree, like I say it is very likely that he was a great guy at home and with his family, friends and neighbours. But what was he like to the wrestling industry?

Anyway.....News of this bites. I join others in wishing Ghostraptor and others affected all the best. Hope something comes up for you soon.

Guess The Dunelm Group which was supposedly an SG for Durham based expats in the US may very well turn out like that for real if we get shifted over to US servers.

That is if only everything I have on my account is kept they way it is. Well SG I can remake because there is nothing in the SG other than a moderate amount of prestige but there is no base to speak of.

If I lose toons, IO's, Vet Awards or can't keep any of the names of any of my toons, thats me done.

There is still this upcoming storm apparently. It’s a good guess Zombies rising in the streets of Paragon and the Rouge Isles would be a small part of that.
  6. Here at the college I work at we have just been given the word from senior management that we can leave 30mins early to try and avoid traffic.

Short shift for me personally as I had come in at 11:30 as it was my turn to do the evening IT Support cover in the library but 5mins of coming in I was told all evening classes were cancelled.

Most of the students that did make it in seem to take it upon themselves to leave early thinking that nothing was going on today despite the fact that pretty much everyone was in as normal with only 3 teaching staff in total not making it in.

I would be mad about them doing that as it does seem a mockery for those that made the effort to come in but then considering the reliability of their buses are when the weather is fine, I can't blame them for getting alternative transportation home early!
  7. I seem to be in the small group that is opposite from the big crowd and can't get enough of melee and blasting toons.

I just can't drum up the interest to bring myself to roll any Defender, Controller, Corruptor or Dominator. Great to team with don't get me wrong but I just can't ever see myself playing those AT's.

My 2 Scrappers, 3 Tankers, 3 Blasters, Brute, Stalker, Crab Spider and Night Widow all provide me with the opportunity to do what I want to do in this game which is to hit or blast things......really hard!

Only exceptions being my 2 MM's which is fun letting minions do your dirty work while you sit back, point and laugh at your enemies.

Them, and my Tri Form Warshade, which I only ever want to use in large teams but that's so I can pWn entire mobs and get the irk of my teams mate shouting "OI! Save some for us will you!"
  8. I can't comment on your link show specifically as I have not had a chance to listen to it (Linked blocked at work, and not had a chance to listen at home but will hopefully catch up this week).

I will comment though on the probable reason as to why doing this kind of show IC does not seem to be flying with people.

It goes back to a conversation with RP'ers over the suggestion that we should try RP'ing using Voice Chat rather than text. In theory that is much easier than to try and quickly type out a response before it gets lost in a whole load of other text.

The obvious counter point to that was that actually speaking over a mic would in most cases be character breaking ether because a player would be of the opposite gender of their main character or they simply felt that they could not pull off the voice that would adequately fit their character.

I know speaking for myself I would no problem voicing or acting my main character but then in his RP cannon he is not really one to talk to the press and leaves that to Leon Tasker or Dr Roberts. Now as me voicing them, meh, don't think I can pull that off so well and I would be looking for other voice actors to play those roles.

So that is probably the main reason why doing a project like this IC is not being snapped at. Now if someone feels that they don't have a problem with what I have mentioned, then by all means they should go for it. No harm in trying. You never know I could be proven wrong and people suddenly think it can work and run with it which is fair play.

I do wholly encourage you however, doing a project like this, whether it be IC stories or just fans chatting about the game. I believe there is an avenue for it and if you can make it happen, then run with it.

A few people that know me here know that the other site that sucks up my Internet time is ScrewAttack.com. On there they have a weekly podcast Sidescrollers which is done by the ScrewAttack team. There is also another podcast (or at least they are trying again to get it going) which is done by the g1's (The name given to users of the site) themselves. Its good to hear from fans/users of the site on their views of what is happening at ScrewAttack and in the gaming world in general. This could work just as well I think around this community.

So while I have not had a chance to listen to the show yet, I can say that it’s good that something like this is being attempted and you should continue on with this project, refining it as you see fit and let it potentially become a major part of the community.
  9. That was probably my most hardcore DXP out of them all.

Got Iron Works from 40 to 46. Had an excellent team going on the Saturday morning.

Steel House the same, 40 to 46 Felt a bit more sluggish getting him there compared to Iron Works but got going again when teaming with some red side folks in RWZ which was sweet.

I was going to try and do the same of Leon Tasker that has been sitting at 40 for a while, but I was talked into rolling a new WP/SS Tanker. Got him to Lv 31 early in the morning. Glad I did roll him. Tonnes of fun and probably my best build technical wise as he is an absolute monster that is only ever in danger at the moment when facing EB's and AV's. Might change as I move him on to the higher levels and more dangerous opposition.

Still would have liked to have shown Leon Tasker some outside light. I expect those that talked me into leaving him be to help me move him along a bit now

Overall, very good and productive DXP weekend.

    Happy Birthday marra!

And now the traditional birthday message.....

"Remember.....don't get too drunk.....just drunk enough!"

    [/ QUOTE ]

I thought the traditional birthday message was turning up, drunk, at one 'o' clock in the morning, hugging the birthday boy or girl and saying:

"I... I love you.. I bloody do... Will you be my mother?"

before passing out in the gutter.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hence the reason it was changed to the one I mentioned to stave off future embarrassments!

Although admittedly I gave the same message to a work friend recently but I ended it with the statement "Oh who am I kidding!" because this work friend is Irish.

And yes, I would have preferred if I could put the auras on my toons from the start because up until level 30 they just did not look right without them. Especially Ranpu Tenrai Eleven.

Capes at 20 I don't mind so much. I have usually made my toons to have simple costume when they start out then have them quite happily earn their first proper hero/villain costume.

Halfy-Halfy for me, although I can see why some would prefer capes from the start too if we were to get auras from the start.

    I miss......

I miss the Omega Sektor meet last year. Probably more so now that FFM told me it closed down.

I'm sure there will plenty more meets with the same if not more people going, but there was something about that weekend that while I can't quite figure out what it is, made that weekend special.

Plus some people who were there won't be at future meets which sucks a bit.
  15. Eleven

    no blinds

I myself am a user that puts no blinds and sometimes no farm or fills depending on the toon. In my experience however most have had the decency to ask and usually I am LFT so I say "Sure, sign me up."

You have to understand that while some of us are looking for a team we might be in the middle of a solo mission or running Auction errands while waiting for an invite and it can be bothersome for the invite pop up to show up right in front of you while you have something else on. It’s just something most of us do to prevent a little annoyance from happening.

Now what I will take your side on though is the frustration of people incorrectly flagging themselves when active. It is ok for some players to insist on the No Blinds rule and it is your call if you want to belittle and scream at people that can't follow the instruction of taking a few seconds out to send a tell. If you do that though, make sure you practice what you preach which some people do not and take a few seconds out correctly flagging your active toon depending on what you are looking for.

Moment I log into a toon I am setting up which flag is appropriate for what I am about to do. If I am going to run a few errands first, or when I went to RP meets, then I flag Red. No one can blind invite me then and they are forced to send a tell. Of course I politely explain why I am busy and usually offer to send a tell back later if I am then LFT and they want a spot filling.

If I am outright LFT then I flag myself Green for Mission team or White for anything. Yes No Blinds rule is still in affect but we have all stated why we have that rule. However because I have flagged myself LFT because that is what I am after, then hopefully I am able to quickly reply with a "Sure, sign me up". Sometimes I get caught in a fight and can't reply there and then. I always make the effort to eventually reply and apologise for my late response.

Can’t say that I have ever had any bother with anyone as a result and I have not needed to /hide myself ether. Not that I am knocking anyone that does /hide themselves as there are valid reasons for them doing so.

So while I disagree with the OP over the No Blind rule, I have to show sympathy for them when they have sent a tell to someone flagged LFT but gets a snotty reply saying they are not looking. I know that this is no where near everyone doing this but anyone that has No Blinds in their message, is not LFT but has not made the effort to correctly flag themselves, your only inviting grief.
  16. Eleven - "Train...Improve....Then knock more scumbag heads about than I did last year!"

Leon Tasker - "Going to need a bigger gun"

Steel House - "Query....New Years Resolutions.....Invalid Syntax Error"

    Impervium Tower - "KILL....CRUSH.....DESTROY!"

Template - "Get more templates off there face and sleeping with each other than I managed last year!"

Adam Dennison - "Break with tradition and for one time only instead of pigging out with Bourbon Creams when meditating, gorge on Ginger Snaps instead. Oh yeah! Living dangerously!"
  17. Man, music is such an inspiration for me when thinking up anything to do with all my toons but my main in particular.

I have actually made a play list on my MP3 player of songs that I see as suitable soundtracks for members of The Dunelm Group and the group as a whole. 2 tracks per toon.

Leon Tasker - Filter "Hey man nice shot" and Greenday - Wake me up when September ends.

Filter's track is good for scenes of Leon in combat where Greenday's track is good for Leon when reflecting his time in military action, in particular the moments when he would like to put down the weapons forever.

Adam Dennison - Fratellies - Chelsea Dagger (For the fluffy purple cloud chicken dance!) and Franz Ferdinand - Outsiders

Chelsea Dagger is just for a joke. When ever I make Adam do the Fluffy Purple Chicken Dance I can't help but think of this song. Franz track seems to suit Adam's character overall.

Do Lo Might - Godsmack "Touche" and Finger Eleven "One Thing"

Both tracks match Do Lo's desire to help others after he was helped after his mutation. The Finger Eleven track though also focuses more on his reasoning to be a hero for his young son.

Steel House - Curve "Hell above the water" and Rage Against the Machine "Fistful of Steel"

Both sound electronic at times which suit the toon. The Rage track is obviously there just on the play of words alone.

Iron Works - Prodigy "Spitfire" and Audioslave "Cochise"

Spitfire suits Iron Works in combat scenes. Really Cochise was only picked because it is now known on the Ironman soundtrack and, well you look at Iron Works and....well gets a bit obvious really! Good track mind.

Eleven - Stemm "Face the Pain" and Shinedown "I dare you"

Hell! My main toon here could have a 2 disc set soundtrack all to himself! One disc with various bands and artists and the second disc instrumental pieces from a number of orchestras.

For these two though, Face the Pain matches Eleven's Rage in combat while I dare you is Eleven's real main theme song. If (when) I get the toon on TV, that is the show's theme song without question.

The Dunelm Group - Muse "Knights of Cydonia" and Alter Bridge "Rise Today"

Muse's track is cool for a big group combat scene while like I Dare You is Eleven's main theme song, Rise Today is unquestionably the theme song for The Dunelm Group. I have listened to that track many times now and it still gives me chills when I hear it.

Oh and hello again all. If I do not catch you in game before it, I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and All the Best for the New Year.

That's gimmick infringement and you know it!

Now pass mine over there behind you......

Anyway, this overview looks really sweet right now but damn them for teasing more to be announced!

Mission creator was obviously something we in the RP community were marking out to like little kids. If they are seriously claiming that the tools given to us in the creator will rival what is used in their regular development then....

Just keen to see what is planned for SG's and specifically bases. Would be cool to see small SG's be able to gain rewards or something to help with building up a base. After all just because an SG is small in number, doesn't mean they are any less determined.
  19. Easy. I'm a Scrapper.

You think I am squishy? You'll never find out for sure though, as I will have knocked you out before you got a sniff in!

  20. Might be best to use the other post now for building IC TF/Arc meets rather than this one, as this post was originally a one off and the other post seems to be becoming popular.

Having said that, yes Sunday 31st August is the only time this weekend I will be able to do anything in the game, as the rest of the weekend I will be celebrating my cakeday.

Should be ok for anytime on Sunday but rather not too late as I will have work on the next day.

Well folks, thanks for a successful KH TF, it was a lot of fun. Still no idea what happened with Mary, I guess it might have been a combination of difficulty settings and levels. Either way, we kicked posterior. Eventually. Although sometimes it was just prodding buttock. But it was fun prodding buttock. Looking forward to the next one.

As for the ITF, I would like to do another IC one sometime but I tend to need a little bit of notice.

And someday, perhaps, I'm going to shake this habit of getting rubbish rare recipies out of TFs.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Aye, cracking TF last night. I obviously forgot that Steel House was 35 and not 34 so was exemped down and did not get any XP.

But that did not matter. Still got plenty of inf and drops I can sell on but more than anything it was another enjoyable IC TF.

As mentioned as well, would like to setup an IC meeting in game with Dr Roberts and the management team of The Milita at some point and create another coalition.

Dee Dee Diablo (Level 50 Fire/Elec Blaster)

Thanks for the mission last night Liz, shame I had to duck out swiftly after it ended.

I'm considering running the Katie Hannon TF on this coming Monday (25th) depending on numbers. A few of the Militia should be along but if anyone else would be interested in joining, let me know. ICly, it will be on a tip off to The Amber Banshee by her Fae cousins but there's no reason that the contact wouldn't have warned others of the danger. I'd like to start meeting at the contact from 19:30 and start at 20:00 prompt if we have enough people. Further details are as follows:

    Contact: Katie Hannon
    Level Range: 30 - 34
    Notes: Requires 6 people
    Zone: Croatoa
Primary Enemy: The Cabal, Red Caps
    Name: A Tangled Plot
    Badge: Cabalist Badge
Description: You aided the Cabal in their struggle against the loathsome Red Caps.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah sorry Liz was not around the game much last night to have brought Tower over to help out its system administrator.

I'll be around on Monday if you need a spot filling. Best toon I have in that area right now is Steel House, level 34 Scrapper that has been doing a lot over in Croatoa recently anyway.

Might be strange for Steel House, a technology based, command driven AI machine to be teaming with someone magic based, but then again that sort of diversity could make things interesting.

Unity Vigil members, members of other supergroups in the city and heroes through the FBSA will be notified of the request. (Level 50 mission, no one under level 21 as one of the missions takes place in Dark Astoria.)

Saturday Evening from 8: The New Vigilants' team leader, Cindersnap, has uncovered a secret underground facility that he believes warrents investigating. He'll be requesting back up for the investigation. (Level 37-38, the last mission of the Crey Cloning Project arc. I'm hoping it's the map with the tubes. )

I can more than likely help you out if needed on Friday night. If it's level 50 characters only then you can have any of ether MA Scrapper Eleven, Fire Blaster Eleven or the Warshade Adam Dennison. If there is flexibility with levels and perhaps you a keen to have a Tanker, then there is also Do Lo Might who is not far off dinging level 44.

Saturday might not be possible for me as its looking more likely I am going to be away for the weekend. Otherwise Iron Works at Lv 38 Blaster would have been ideal.
