Whatever your preference, a little bit of communication beforehand can go a long way towards making sure that everyone on the team that you are assembling can have a good time.
Some people like things that others don't and there is no sense in not making sure you have like-minded players along with you for whatever fun-ride your planning to lead (no sense in including people who don't like it).
It's pretty simple really and no one's fun is any lesser than anyone else's (well, besides those who enjoy muzak). -
Quote:Oh! Oh!...Your subject is just your opinion phrased as a question, like a game of Jeopardy.
What is... dugfromearth's costume-buying preference! ...??
Oooh, ooh... Maybe we should do a Family Feud style sort of themed response system to these threads...
From our 100-people-survey, what ways of buying costume pieces are the BEST?
Dugfromearth says... From the Paragon Market!! Is it up there???
Many of the forum members chime in with, "Good answer! Good answer!".
Survey SAYS... DING!!
That's the number one answer!!
Okay... What other answers did our 100-people-survey offer for Best Ways to buy Costume Pieces?
Quote:You don't actually need to give your answer to the "question" because it's implicit in the alleged question.
Now I grant you that there are conceivably some people who hate previewing costume bits before they buy them, but overall I can't see that there's a whole lot to actually say about the topic.
Are you asking people for ideas on how to do it better than it's already being done?
I can't say it is inherently worthless. There is not much discussion on this particular subject, for sure... but hey... we can still play Family Feud! -
The best ways that I can imagine buying costume pieces include aspects that are entirely against the rules to post here.

Quote:Well said and I fully agree....
Really, though, more options is what I mean. I'm not asking for a "better" human body. I'm asking for better human body parts to mix and match as I see fit. Nothing needs to be replaced, we just need something we don't have a lot of - customization of our bodies BEFORE we dress them up in costumes.
I did understand this from your initial post, but I wandered off the path a little with the talks of "improvements" and complaints about the game's graphics and such. That is where the subjective nature of "better" becomes scary (as I displayed with my previous mmorpg's character's before and after picture. Some might think it is "better", but it was sure a lot worse to me).
I also have been hoping they'd do more with the "robotic arms" type of options. It is a GREAT way to incorporate a lot of fantastic options.
And I agree that these sort of options/additions/improvements have been lacking. I suppose the good news is that the Think Tank and the Back Pack have been introductory elements towards such things, but yes, base character model options, including textures, are a spot that could use some love... and, honestly, deserve some love. -
All this talk about the potential discovery of advanced intelligence and sentience and the importance that it could mean...
And I tend to think of how it could/should point to the unimportance of it.
Sentience/shmentience... eat some food, lookit the stars, grow up, die, blah blah blah. -

Quote:The funny thing is, people keep ignoring the greatest examples of that right here in our own game;
Mirror Spirit and Foreshadow
Now, those aren't the highest quality pictures (from the wiki they be) but in-game those models are really damn nice.
So...why is THAT not the bar for all the PC pieces? Yes, it'd be a metric poop-ton of work, but wouldn't it be worth it? Even with our ageing engine, we CAN have shiny pieces that look really nice.
Just not the Victorian faces. Those are ugly and smack bang in the middle of uncanny valley. But we CAN have awesome pieces. So...why not?
(-Zoidberg?)Quote:I think Tech hit the nail right on the head here and I don't think it would really be that much work considering there are probably a dozen or so basic citizen models with various clothes and hair swaps.
Tech swings, hits and forces me to agree!
Not that I entirely disagreed before, but I am always concerned about what someone may mean by "better".
I played another game for nearly three years and they "improved" the character's looks (after already ruining the game, I was only barely hanging on with some friends as it was)...
The so called "improvement" made it as though my three-year character used to be played by one actor who left the show and got replaced by an actor that looked nothing like the previous actor.
It sucked.
- Mini-SWGNGE-Rant OVER.
Take a look... I'm sure plenty will say my opinions on it are an overreaction, but -to ME- it was an intolerable difference.
For the record, I had already canceled, came back to make sure I wanted to cancel, before this change occurred. -
Quote:That is what I find myself thinking whenever considering what Paragon Studios may do.Something else to remember is that Paragon Studios really likes innovating, so any kind of sequel or "exspansuel" would very likely be something that'd surprise us in the way it was done.
It is also what I'm rooting for... whatever it may be that they are up to and/or will be doing in the future, I hope that they're being the most innovative crazy-headed pioneers that I believe they can be.
That's what I respect and that's what I find fun. -

Sadly... I can imagine this topic will lead to more intrusive overlaid ads onscreen during television programs. Which is a sad thing... Or would be if I actually watched television programs... -

Quote:I share similar tastes and feelings as herotoonefan and was going to mention roughly the same stuff.I have to say, as an old-time comics fan, I love the fact that the heroes and villains look so much like good silver-aged comic book art rather than bulgy plastic puff-stickers, cell-shaded TV cartoons, or anime.
If I go back and look at my 80's and 90's comics, this game looks tons more like them than any other similar themed game out there. I guess people these days are thinking of the game more like a superhero movie than a comic book, but I like the authentic comic book look and feel.
I would be sad if the game started looking like an Xbox game (like some superhero movies lately have looked) or started to play like a first-person shooter--which seems to be what people who are less from a classic comic book angle and more from a "gamer" background seem to want.
But, I also know that ultimately people will vote with their dollars, and that will win out. I have two VIP accounts--one that is years old--so I get two votes :P!
...
Not that I'm against some improvements, mind you, but I really don't find myself having an negative issue with how the character models look.
The thing that does really bug me about the characters is the SEAMS... especially the skin textures and the neck!
So, I could certainly see fixing up the skin textures some, although "fixing" can become such a subjective thing it can be scary.
The feet and hands, funny enough, never really bother me.
The hair doesn't bug me either.
Sure, I love greater modern graphics (although, not what I've seen in other mmorpgs, that's for sure), but I have zero negative issues with the looks of this game's characters.
Yes, it is an older game, but I think the style really does a great job of bending with the time.
To each their own, of course, but I thought I'd make my own opinions known along with the rest of the feedback.
Ugly bags of mostly water! -
Doh... I didn't get a chance to set foot in there this season either!

Quote:You know... I was just thinking that the other day...You can easily simulate the experience by taking 24 heavily-caffeinated ferrets, covering 4 of them in technicolor spraypaint and the rest in black, and placing them in a box with a (slightly) irate tortoise. Then add about thirty-seven strobelights of varying colors, bang some random objects together, and turn on a marathon of Chris Tucker movies at maximum volume.

I haven't played CoH since last year...
So, what's the game like now?
-
Quote:I still have mine!I think I still have one somewhere. No idea if it still works or not or what games I still have for it.
Last time I used it, maybe two years ago, it worked perfectly!
Yars Revenge, Adventure and Combat being the highlights... Oh and Warlords! -
There is another possibility as to why bases may not become open for non VIPs (I'm not saying it won't, as I really don't know)...
Bases may eat up a significant amount of resources to allow them to be made by premium accounts who spend $2 for it (which could be a significant number).
Every damned account that makes x amounts of bases could start eating up a large amount of the database and resources.
So, that could be a sensible reason for limiting them.
It's just a possibility. I'm curious about it, really. -
I do!
I use an exclamation mark because I often find Boss fights to be the most fun.
Obviously, it all varies greatly depending on what enemy group, what AT, powers and level you are playing with, but I can't really think of any times that I've wanted to turn bosses off (maybe for Master Illusionists on some characters, hehe).
I solo mostly as a blaster and just love duking it out with a boss.
I can certainly see how some would enjoy turning it off, so I'm not holding my nose up at anyone!Especially some of the support ATs, which I seem to rarely play... Or just for speed and more fun in taking out more enemies more quickly (I can see how that is very fun).
I most love street sweeping and hunting +1/+2 Bosses.
One of my fondest memories of my early CoH playing days was when Electric-Knight was still a low level Elec/Elec Blaster... And I got into a great, long, back and forth battle with a boss in one of the tunnels in... Atlas Park, I think... pretty sure it was a Bone Daddy... We sent each other back and forth across the street, cars driving by, sometimes clipping us, I nearly lost, I thought I had him... then I didn't, I missed... He ran... I chased... he regenerated some health... he almost got me... but I managed to knock him into next week with a sliver of health left! Thus began my love of the thrill of playing as a Blaster!
And I still solo as E-K all the time and always look forward to fighting the bosses. Of course, now they are usually in electrical cages, watching me pummel them... but that's payback for me going all these years without Mez Protection!!! Carry some Break Frees, punks!!

Hehehe, fun.
I kinda prefer my moog for accomplishing that and more, but that is cool. I've always loved the old video game sounds and have been trying to include some of that along with some rock music myself.
I do like how he's, sort of, using the pedals on the "fretboard".
The name might be the best part though. -
I'm not entirely certain yet, but I may be able to travel from NY and join you all for this.
I only just saw this thread, so I'll take a look at things and see if it is feasible, but I am interested!
The movie idea does sound cool, but yeah, we'd want to spend time hanging out and talking and such. So, it is a tricky balance. I'd imagine a movie viewing would be more like a MST3K CoH-style!
Theatre or D&B or whatever, I'm interested!
My schedule can change at a moment's notice though, so don't ink me into anything.
If I do make it, it'll be with my CoH-playing wife (she just doesn't visit the forums). -
Quote:It is funny (or actually sad) how apologizing makes some people view you as weak or problematic. What I need to stop doing is running all over myself apologizing for sounding like I have an opinion. I blame social conditioning/being Canadian.
It seems to me that it stems from the pack mentality of the wild... If you show weakness, there's something wrong with you and you may be a detriment to the pack.
Me, personally, I have a lot of respect for people who show respect by their attempts to display understanding, humbleness and care enough to acknowledge recognition that there are opinions, thoughts and feelings beyond their own.
Screw the haters!

Quote:My apologies for also taking your longer and well thought out post and trimming it just for this one statement... It just rang a bell....
Many years ago I came under the impression that everyone is lying to me when they talk to me directly, so it is hard to see what is sincere and what isn't.
I'm trying to figure out a way to put this without sounding like I am praising myself... As a very straightforward and honest individual, I run into people following very similar thought processes all the time.
It is so very discouraging, hehe. People often seem to think that I am trying to sell them on something beyond what I have laid out in the open.
What is the worst about this is that so many people seem to prefer it if I would just manipulate them rather than be straight forward and give them the facts and the choices of what to do next.
Makes me a sad panda... As I really don't like to manipulate (other than for laughs).
It comes into play so often because I lead artistic business endeavors and so I'm constantly trying to make things happen... and everyone is constantly trying to misread what I am "really" thinking...
So, please... think of the honest and direct pandas and don't make them sad!
Haha... anyway, I hope no one minds my incessant thread-jacking...
Also...

And...
Saying the name Golden Gorilla made me go do this...
Zero offense intended, Golden Girl! I'd actually love to play together... Maybe GG encounters someone from an alternate gorilla universe!
There, Captain-Electric... Look what you've done!!
(I made the costume from memory without referring to reference pics... But hey, a gorilla's gotta be herself!)
