Seriously! It's a pretty simple thing, but it really adds to the fun, immersion and excitement of the mission. It makes you feel like you're in the chase and on the hunt!

Also... the in-mission NPC with a clickable dialog option... Not only is that very cool (Not positive it has been done in CoH before), but I want to see that available for the AE!

    Welcome back!
Backpacks and the like are still up in the air... No word on them coming yet... But... one of these days, we hope, hehe!
As they've been knocking things off the list of Player Wants... I'd like to think that they're coming eventually.
Just my own opinions though. No backpack costume parts in game yet.

Not that I'm worried about the game nor the company. I just see lots of people pointing out the obvious lack of reference... but no information on it yet.

And... Westley... Just reading the starting title of your post, The Fallacy of Perpetual Growth, I knew we were on board with similar thoughts. It's a fact, but one that people just continually seem to think they can will away, hehe.

Attempting to combat exploits by a patch that made repetitive combat the only worthwhile AE content, and penalized the use of other characters, seems to be a huge misfire. Continue to work on the issue, but revert AE to the state it was in before in the interim. If the fix is delayed so long, this really isn't justified as a stopgap measure any more.

It would also appear that the original advice not to revise arcs to address the penalties that are now attached to hostage rescues, non-combat escorts, and defendable objects may need to be revised in light of these developments.

Still, I'd like to thank all the devs for creating AE. This recent patch made me realize how important AE had been over the past year in sustaining my interest in the game. AE meant always having something new and worthwhile to do. I miss it.
    Heraclea stated my thoughts!
Namely, this exploit fix that ruined rewards for all of these innocent story telling options created way too much collateral damage to be acceptable.
I am disappointed that this view is not shared by the development team, but I do appreciate and believe it is not a matter of not trying or caring.
The damage done was too extreme to leave in place as is.
What irks me is how the team now says that they don't want to throw a quick fix in... Well, yeah... Maybe you should take the previous quick fix out!

I'm not looking to beat up on the Team, nor am I interested in any debates among us players about how AE should work... I just feel the same way as Heraclea (And a great many other players)... We love AE. We love having it for original gaming content as an alternative system of advancement.
    And... We miss that.

    Best of luck!

I really do think this is a major part of it.
I think they've even said nearly as much in the past.
When they tackle fixing up bases, I think they want to do it all the way and change a lot about it. So, yeah, I think (In their minds and plans) that this puts the kibosh on them doing little incremental things beforehand.
Seeing how long it has taken to do the big sweeping changes... I would argue that adding in items and little things here and there would have been worth it... But, to them, they may see it as work done just to be undone.
Alas... I just hope their vision isn't too far different than our collective ideas. At least... that it doesn't exclude the elements we currently love about bases.

Perhaps that is another thing we need to express to them. What we do love about bases the way that they are. Just thinking out loud... as I'm not really sure what details would fit that description, heh. Hmmm...

EDIT: I didn't intend to make it sound so strongly that they would definitely be altering bases so far away from what they are currently.
From a practical standpoint, I'm not sure that would be wise. It might be what they wanted to do... but, over time, I wonder if simply fixing it up and adding more freedom and options wouldn't be best. Too much time and history has gone by to pull the rug out from under the base designers and the great things people have accomplished... How realistic of a goal would it be to completely redo the base system and make that system keep and maintain what was done in the old system. Better money for overall happiness seems to lie in fixing and upgrading, rather than redoing... In my limited experience and personal opinion.

    Just extending my ramble...

  12. Huh, thanks for asking this Marcian! I had my own convoluted theories as to why there were darker green bars... But was never certain!

I thought they might have been Rep Levels that had been attained, but then lost due to negative rep... Or possibly the system somehow had some sort of other ebb and flow to it, haha.

    Now I know...

Huh... Once again... the truth is much less interesting... *sigh*

You know what I really dislike about this silly system?
I made some posts that were never replied to and I was sort of surprised... But not entirely, because it is common to feel ignored in forums (Unless doing something extreme)... Then, from another thread, I learned about the current rep comments system... And I discovered that those posts had a bunch of comments despite zero replies!

So... I wish people would just reply instead of leaving hidden messages that I'll likely never look for!

    Silly stuff!
Thanks for asking this question though! I'm glad you're an over-sensitive sillyhead that cared enough to start a thread to find out what the deal was!

    (haha, just kidding... mostly!!)
  13. Terrific job sorting through all of this and putting it together!

After a brief discussion about making a new list... I looked around the boards to find the existing lists people mentioned... and saw the disarray that everything was in and really wanted to put something like this together, but I wasn't able to make the time... And I am very glad that you did, because you did a great job. Thank you!

The only thing I can think of after first perusal of this is one suggestion for Base Building Wishes (I don't think this was there, my apologies if I just missed it):

Finer Control in item placement. When moving an item, it snaps to (What I imagine would be some sort of GRID) spots. This generally makes centering and matching up items impossible, as the snap-to locations are farther apart than a designer may desire.

    So, simply put:

Finer control of object placement; allow us to move objects in smaller increments for more precise designing

I hope that made sense... my eyes are bleary and my head is tired, hehe.

Thanks a lot! And... WAR WITCH!!! Take notice NAO!!!!! Even though that is a demand, I will still say, PLEASE and THANK YOU!!

    Excelsior!!!
  14. Yeah, not a fan of the manner in that at all...
We share common goals, however, and I understand where you're coming from.
As has been pointed out, the double doors was a bug. Bugs can be weird and shouldn't be left in for the cool feature they provide (Although, I agree that, something that cool should have been properly implemented when being taken out... if at all possible).
The clear panels, obviously, were missing the SG symbol, so yeah, that was a feature in giving people those symbols. Again, it seems to me that they should have given us a blank option when making that fix (If at all possible).

However, my biggest issue with your O.P. is overlooking the awesomeness that was removing the pathing issues and the huge, ridiculous, uncompromising footspaces of base objects.
I am not saying I don't wish (And think) they should have done more and should do more for Bases ASAP... But I cannot agree with ranting on them for only taking things away and not doing anything in our favor.
Those changes were huge and magnificent and brushing those changes aside in a ranting post of attitude is a bit too off to simply nod and agree on the things we do agree upon.

Of course... all that now being said... *nods and agrees to agree with the things we do agree upon*

    Well said Ironblade

Also... discussing personal housing (That would be separate from SG bases) does relate to this topic... as such an addition makes it more feasible to devote an issue to bases (As the OP and other replies have suggested).

I don't know that any issue need only be bases... All I care about is the bases getting the love no matter of the percentage within a particular issue. Ideally... They'd give everything and more that we want for bases and give other stuff to other parts of the game as well
Who am I to ask them to limit themselves

    Carry on... carry on...
  15. So... Anyway... The answer is: The average should be 5, but it should go up to 11

Haha, no, really... Some good stuff in here.
Swellguy, those are perfect examples of the difference in NPC dialog. True examples and not exaggerated in the slightest.

All that being said... I suppose this is why I play Redside almost entirely through Paper Missions (Except for the Patron Arcs... *sigh*).

Really though... And this is just for me... Not everyone is a Role-Player... and not everyone who is a Role-Player shares this same playstyle... I don't really recognize the story arcs as part of my personal canon and all that.
Playing redside, I definitely use those blinders much more than when on blueside.

Also, yes, GG... I would love to play a game that allowed me to play as a villain that would fail at a 100% chance of all that you listed.
That's part of the fun of playing a villain (See? We're not all without some merit according to your own virtues).

But... meh... I agree mostly with Malfaz.
  17. HAHA!
Thanks for that pic and info, GG... BABs is great

Thanks SO MUCH TonyV for taking the time to edit and post this.
    Much appreciated!

And thank you to our great team of devs for coming out and having some fun and insightful conversation with the community!
  18. What average from 1-10?
Oh, Marcian, you silly... They should average 5 (Although, maybe not by your definitions).

Sam said it best... The key to villains is being the protagonist.
Some of the most fun we've had in table top RPGs (It's been a while) was with a villainous group where I, as the game master, just set up the world and let the players decide what and where and how... Sure, I could and would supply things now and then, but the key was to always let them push what they wanted to do.

Heroes are easier to direct. That works for a broader spectrum... A hero will seek to help. Others will do things for rewards...

For villains, I believe the key is providing ongoing worlds that can be disrupted, corrupted, diverted, etc.

As far as the farthest reaching level of villainy I enjoy playing for some characters... What BZB mentioned is a good starting place

I enjoy villains that are not evil, but very mixed up in their perspective.
I also enjoy villains that cannot be justified at all.
And I enjoy some variances in the middle... and I think a game like this should try to suit each and all here and there... and let the player decide what they want to do and what they want to avoid.

Easy to say, obviously, and a difficult task to achieve...
  19. I meant to post this the other night...
After updating my graphics card drivers, the crashing completely stopped for me.

I wasn't just crashing at the tailor though.
It was with almost every zone load and then even just crashes out of no where. Pretty frequently.
I went and installed the 10.4 ATI drivers for my card and didn't crash again.
I was running on the 9.12 drivers before updating them after I17's launch.

So, maybe that will solve some other people's crashing problems.

    Best of luck!
  20. Thanks a bunch for editing and posting this!
I wasn't able to make it, but reading through this was fun (And a tiny bit enlightening).

They are all such a riot

Haha... And Trina... LOL! That keeps cracking me up every time it gets brought up. It's a running gag... but, honestly... the joke is on poor Trina! Keep fighting for her, Fab!
  21. Looks like some Friday over-time to get some fixes up and a quick posting on the forums afterward... My guess, anyways.
    Thanks

Right, I heard about this in beta and understand that there was good reason behind making the change (I was hoping that pesky toggle could be changed to prevent the exploit instead).
I do indeed understand though, Caste, and I truly appreciate your reply and your sentiment (And the fact that you tried different ways). To those that don't understand:
A 20 minute annoyance is a long annoyance. Apparently people missed that as my main point in my long-winded post. The effects last 20 minutes. That's a while to wait for them to wear off if you're taking screenshots or just not planning to get into any fights (Not everyone plays just to fight as much, as quickly and as efficiently as possible).

Still... I love the new Issue (Tweaked my settings even more to get a bit more performance out of them while keeping the great new visuals... and I'm on a single core system at the moment).

the following is not a rant, but a calmly worded explanation of my opinion:

I have to admit. This is the kind of change that squashes my good time when I log in. As soon as this happened the first time, it made me rather disappointed.
We go out of our way to make characters with different concepts and such and power customization and all that...
And any character that buys this booster can throw a 20 minute buff on others that has a flashing and humming magic card effect.
I seriously despise that visual (And audio) effect and I wish this change didn't go through. It is these kinds of effects that spoil a great screen shot. I just enjoy the visual aspect so much and these sprite-like emblem effects muddy it up.

Here is the deal... It's not just an AT with their powerset that can cast this buff... it is any AT (And a lot of players have this booster pack).
Most importantly, it lasts 20 minutes! What other player-cast ally buff lasts that long?

If this power is now going to play with the same rules of auto accepting as other player cast buffs... then give it a 4 or 5 minute duration.
Otherwise, this stinks for those of us that don't like the effect of it (As well as the varying element of the buff).
I don't care if anyone thinks not liking the visual effect is dumb or pointless or whatever. If visuals were pointless, we could all play a text game. It detracts from my enjoyment, so I am expressing it.
An Ice shield is part of a powerset that deals with using cold and ice... Fire, kinetics, force fields, etc and all that stuff... there's an AT theme and those powers only last a short while.

This Mystic Fortune had a different aspect to it from the beginning, that's why it had the prompt.
If you're going to remove the prompt... change the power, because this stinks for a lot of us.

Yes, some are happy that they no longer have to click accept.
Some are unhappy that we will auto accept a 20 minute buff. No option whatsoever.

Options > No options in my book. Allows for greater happiness among the varied preferences.

I've clamored and applauded most everything else in this Issue and that the Devs do for this game.
This change annoys me. Not in theory, but in practice. I look at the numbers, I look at the visuals, I hear the audio effect and I see the prevalence and common practice of the players and this power... and this change goes against my tastes.

Thanks for all the great stuff besides this one change.
Now change this one thing to my satisfaction please

I definitely appreciate having more ambient sounds : )

That combined with shadows just brings a greater element of life to this game. I'm currently sacrificing some FPS for the shadows, but, so far, it is worth it.
  25. And it seems as though I needed to disable the Hotkey Poller once again (Thank you very much Dumpleberry and others who helped solve that back in beta).
