Well... since a whole misguided tangent was spawned by a pic of an animal in leathers... I'll chime in...
Isn't anyone else disturbed, not by the "furry", but the chubster in the Spidey suit??
That's something most of us can agree on being sick
I mean... GAH... Red and blue is just totally not his color!!!
Besides... Didn't Statesman and Recluse wish Furries well? -
I'm not a huge market user... I buy standard IO recipes, crafted enhancements and salvage... and sell salvage and profitable recipes when I get them...
I don't particularly care for the UI in its current state. I am very hopeful that major improvements are coming soon...
However, with all things considered (Including the stacks of 10 for enhancements now)... I'd say it seems to be somewhat of a wash for me, Old UI vs New UI.
I don't say this against all the feedback in here. I really agree with most everything I've seen from the posters in here.
I'm just saying that, with the way that I use it, I don't hate it any more than I did the previous one.
It is close though... The vertical arrangement at the bottom pushes me closer to really hating it... And the way it puts the newest item at the bottom of that is pretty infuriating, heh... So, I like the list, Kitteh, thanks
All that said... You don't want "improvements" to be a wash, really... You'd like it to be an improvement, hehe.
I'm hopeful that fixes are coming quickly...
<.<
>.>
I'm hoping I'm hopeful of that, at least.
In the mean time... I can use this thing as is... I think... -
I'd love to see this for people. If anyone ever has a concept that just calls for a certain unlockable, I'd love to see them get it ASAP. And I'd gladly help whenever I can.
The question is... How do you set this up and make it something that the players-in-question can reach us so that we can help them.
A thread on the forums is great for those who visit the forums. They can come in and make it known what they want and we can arrange to help them.
However... Those new players and players who don't visit the forums... how do they reach out?
If only we could give them a spotlight with... what would the emblem of this organization be?
Anyways... It is a solid idea! -
Quote:Haha! Yes! So true... I've tried to give inspirations to save someone and had that be the result too many times, hehe.Biggest frustration for me (moreso than the blasters who won't close in to melee range for the Kin's or Rad's heals and buffs) is seeing a teammate in serious need of a green or blue or breakfree or medium or large purple, trying to hand them one, and getting notification that they don't have room. Then a moment later, they faceplant.
Why carry them if you won't use them?
...
(And as a blaster at heart... I hate that too! The other thing is not running to the Tank/Aggro magnets when in trouble)
Ahem.. anyways... -
Haha!
As we discussed in game, Dechs... I have a problem with inspirations too!
I hate the silly visual effects (All but Greens, Blues, Lifts... Break Frees are... not as bad as the others). I can't stand those circling emblems!! We hateses them!!!
I delete inspirations often, just to get rid of them and prevent the temptation that I'll use one of those silly ones that will give me those dancing emblems...
(Yeah, all the other powers that create those visuals annoy me too, but... I can live with it... since there's nothing I can do about it).
Hehe... I do, however, tend to hoard the tier 3 inspirations, but I'll combine three of the Defenses, Resists, Damages, Accuracies to make greens, blues or wakies... depending on the character/powerset.
So... I think you're crazy... but I'll admit that I am as well... However, I'm not crazy for hating the inspiration's visual effects. Just for other reasons.
My advice: close the inspiration window and never open it again!! -
And there was all that crazy info that they told us in person, but swore us to not reveal to anyone else!
Like the [redacted] and, I think it was [redacted] who told us about [redacted].
The coolest thing was getting to see [redacted] while still not knowing about [redacted]until later on when they showed [redacted].
I think it is safe to post all that now though... -
If you look closely, some cars have the bumper sticker, "Honk if you love WW"...
Or so I read on the interwebs somewhere...
-
It's no fun winning... because I can't join in on this!!
(Haha, although, yay, thanks for the code!)
This is a good one and now i have to go make a new account just so I can take part...
Kidding...
Nice job everyone! Good luck, Ocho! -
The best AT and powerset to learn the game?
Whatever one you choose.
So long as you enjoy it.
If you happen to find that you're not enjoying it so much... then try something else.
By all means, try some other things out when/if you have the time and the desire to. I enjoy trying out all the different ATs, but it is by no means necessary... Especially if you're having enough fun with the one.
Anyways... I just scratch my head at people making claims to do this. We're all far too different in our enjoyments and personalities to know what is right for someone else.
Find your place and don't take any of our advice too strongly
We may be wrong!
(Make an Electric/Electric Blaster... NOW! Hehe, that's how I started and I loved it the whole time and still love it to this day! It just happens to be the right set for me!) -
Quote:That's good to know!Basically reiterating this--
I just finished LGTF with 7 attackers and 1 empath.
It took around 1hour 42mins I think it was, There was no controller or holders within the team.
Only 2 members kept dieing, the rest hadnt died once.
Really, it all depends on who is within your team, but it proves that this can be done, and is not exactly impossible. Only a little harder then it was once before. But isn't that what we are constantly seeking within City of Heroes?, A challenge??.
Also its good to note that the team was a PuG collected from SBH channel in Union.
So, just try and get the word out to people to change the tactic for that encounter... Full out assault.
If that PuG group was able to, that's pretty reasonable.
Not saying some teams may not get stuck though, and that does stink.
Of course, I've seen way too many groups of people/players ready to give up when I'm like, "Wha??? C'mon!! Let's adapt!! We can do this!!"
And, sure enough, we pull through.
As much as many say they want greater challenges... I've seen way too many groups bail at first signs of a challenge. Funny, ain't it?
Anyway, none of this is to say that the change was bad and/or shouldn't be adjusted.
I'm just pleased to hear results of successful PuG LGTFs in the current state. -
First off, thanks Castle.
You're the rook that rocks!
Quote:I agree with all that you said before this, but I just wanted to say that I've thought the same thing about how people tear into the devs sometimes....
In fact I think the mods let people tear down the devs more than they'd allow for/of a regular forum user.
But moot point atm, as expected Castle has said he's fixing it this very afternoon, and bringing the hold back down to a reasonable level.
I don't mean it as a knock against the mods either. And, honestly, it's partly stuff that comes with the territory of the job, I suppose.
Some people communicate far less... respectfully... than others. In the end, most often, I suppose they mean the same things, they just don't communicate it quite as nicely.
That doesn't condone it (In my book), but ah well...
Hopefully the Devs can always keep in mind that we love what they do so much... the negative just stands out.
As an artist, I know how the negative feedback can wash out more positive feedback if you let it.
Would be nice to not get jumped on for every little mistake you may make... But... The masses can be unforgiving. Toss them a shiny and they'll soon forget though.
Does it go to 11? -
Quote:Joker is definitely a favorite of mine (He and Dr. Doom really are sort of givens, they're that good). And, I agree about Mark Hamill's job with him. I love it.My favorite villains are The Joker (ala the animated show voiced by Mark Hamill because he just has so much fun) ...
Speaking of Joker performances... While it was not the Joker I've come to love and all, the Dark Knight's Joker was a treat for me. Ledger's performance was just so odd in such a wonderfully subtle way. I loved it. And the dialog and themes of that movie were a joy for myself. That is the sort of darkness I can enjoy. He twisted and turned everyone upside down with his perspective on the forces at work. I love that they had him hanging upside down when delivering the lines about him enjoying Batman and Batman needing and creating him. Sort of like the ouroboros serpent swallowing itself. Good stuff... Anyways... I'm out of here for the night! -
I agree, for the most part, Sam.
In all forms of entertainment, the quality of the story has to be worth it in order to trudge through the darkness or sadness or whatever they may be throwing at you.
How many times have you started watching a movie that uses rather easy and obvious aspects that will make people sad or whatever... And you find yourself asking yourself... Is this going to be well done or is it crap not worth watching/going through this? Usually... if you find yourself asking that, it probably isn't good enough (They lost you and you're thinking outside of the experience. They may have jumped the gun and/or handled things poorly in the artistic delivery).
All that being said, for me, darkness doesn't have to have a happy or positive outcome nor closure necessarily. For instance, many people find interest in studying and learning about serial killers. These don't really have happy endings or an over-arcing moral story. Sure, maybe the ******* gets caught and the detective work done to find them is inspiring and entertaining... but that's not always the case. Sometimes it is just the simple psychological study and character development that serves as the beginning and ending of entertainment. And the questions, really... of How and Why did this person become this way?
For myself, I role-play and delve into forms of art (generally) to absorb myself into psychological landscapes that I may not experience otherwise. Some times, such as with something very dark and twisted, these are places I would never wish to experience in reality. Other times (The utter fantastical), they are places I can only wish I could experience for real.
I don't subscribe to the idea that art must produce a positive outcome for it to be enjoyed, but just that it has the depth to explore while whatever is going on is going on.
Then again... after getting into this bit of a tangent, I've reread what you said and don't see you saying darkness must have a light to be entertaining. It was probably just the "light at the end of the tunnel" that got me thinking along those lines more than anything.
Hehe, still, I figured you'd appreciate the tangent.
And while I don't think everybody enjoys a sad and/or dark tale with no glimmer of hope at the end, I know that I do, hehe.
Don't worry... I like happy stuff without any dark stuff as well.
I've always wanted to read and see more things that are about the "bad guy" and don't fall into the typical traps of making up for it all with the direction the story goes. In reality, I get and understand that bad deeds plant bad seeds and you'll become entangled within that and all. Believe me (GG!), I get that and believe in it. There are just more paths to take in story telling than to simply and forcibly steer any and all dark tales towards that moral lesson and trend. Reality doesn't play it out so simply and art does not need to make it even more clear cut (Art doesn't even have to take it into account... One could write a terrific story that ends with the main character's first kill). Not all art should be morality mythology (I love that stuff as well). I like good psychological profiles and character progressions (Or regressions, as it were).
So, with City Of Villains, I certainly look to enjoy that side of things. While it can be had, for certain. The game, as has been mentioned, does indeed push a bit too much nonsense onto the player of a villain. I'm not convinced they did this to make the player of a villain feel badly for making that choice. I just street sweep and run paper missions and blur out the contact's words if it doesn't match what my own imagination would prefer.
*pulls on the emergency brake*
Hmmm... my favorite villains... Weird, I'm having a hard time pinpointing that... Outside of the comicbook realm, I'd have to say Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker. Not for his bad-assery... But the backstory of great heights and terrible plummets and self hatred and all that fun stuff (Combined with style, of course). Lest we start a major Star Wars discussion, perhaps we should leave that alone... -
Quote:Hey!!!Wrong - meeting ME at the Boston Meet -n- Greet was the highlight for them.
Heck, Posi mistook me for some guy he campaigned with (and probably owed him some $$$).
Oh, wait, never mind... you look just like someone I know!
I'll see you next year, if not beforehand -
Quote:While you're right... It "would have been nice"... What they're saying is that the result of going to the Boston Meet and Greet led them to this idea. So, they didn't know this beforehand.I think it would have been nice to have known this when before PAX, so I could have attended that since it was closer to me, instead of saving money for an Invisible HeroCon Date that is now no longer being considered.
Coming to us is nice, but a bit more consideration is better.
I think they're being awfully considerate. I understand your predicament, so I don't mean any negativity towards you.
You know how it is... Things don't always line up for us.
I do hope something comes up that you can head to (Maybe the final option will work for you). -
Thanks for sharing the story! It makes me want to go join a sewer team right now...
Quote:True words! I don't PUG often, but yeah, I have definitely had that experience a select few times! That is a great story. When you get on a good PUG and things are rocking, you just don't want it to end. For whatever reason, there is a synergy and everyone plays as if they were one. Baddies get defeated, levels are gained and as you say, it is the most fun evar.
It would be nice if it happened more often, but we would not appreciate as much, alas.
Quote:... It's also where you see all the nutty concept characters that haven't made it to the chopping block yet.
...
Ditto.
And LISAR... If I were able to hop on right now, I'd join ya! -
This whole "linear time" thing and "after" stuff always confuses me...
So, basically... When is after midnight no longer after midnight???
*eyes his hungry mogwai*

You get no disagreement from me about the contacts' dialog and all that inferred lackeyism toward the players' characters. That's rarely very fun.
Not that this is the answer, but I just avoid it all and use alternative ways to level up. So, I am greatly unfamiliar with the story arcs... and, even when I do run story arcs... I tend to just wave my hands at what the game says is going on and play within my own world. Not ideal, but, it is what it is.
And I do love the Rogue Isles.
So, I'm a bit unsure about the recent string of posts in here...
I love the (good) camp as much as most... Giant Laser Cannons from Volcano Fortresses and wild characteristics and I happen to be a big fan of twisting mustaches and all that too...
However, I also love me some gritty, realistic, very grim (and possibly depressing) dark villainy and character study/development.
My main villain is likely a good example of those extremes combined.
The gritty backstory and true nature of his whole character arc is utterly dark, twisted and quite depressing (*blissfully breaths it in like a warm cup of cocoa* Ahhhh), but his persona and many interactions often play as an eccentric and flawed and (from a far) comical... and he seems to have a great camp appeal, so to speak. I did one movie involving him (Just to facilitate some role-playing between he and my main hero... Figured a movie was the most entertaining way to pull that off... and it was FUN!) and he seems to be one of those villains that people love to hate... but really love because of his campiness... and his dark and twisted background may even lend to some sympathy.
Anyway, my point is just that I definitely enjoy that dark real villainy, whether it be subtle oppression, things of the mundane or even greater terrors of twisted society and through and to true psychotics and serial killers and terrifying darkness that we wish never existed [And even some that don't truly... but make fun horror tales].
I also like the oppressed nature of the Rogue Isles. I love the citizens all drearily lined up in Grandville. I think it is one of the greater touches in the game.
I also love love love the architecture and artistic design of the place.
Now... don't get me wrong... Ever since I first laid my eyes on it... I wanted to HERO there and be a villain in the nice and clean style of Paragon City. That is one thing that I felt they got a bit wrong.
It's cool for the roots and majority of the Blue vs Red Sides to be Nice and Clean vs Dingy and Dark, respectively... But I feel like there should be more of the opposite as you progress to the higher levels.
If I were designing it... The level 50 zones would be dark and gritty and terrible for the Heroes and Stark, Sunny and Clean for the Villains.
Having another zone that is the opposite would also be fine, hehe.
I'll stop this ramble short! (For me) -
I think this is great.
Going to the Boston Meet and Greet was excellent and a real treat.
I'm glad meeting me made such an impression on you all at Paragon Studios that you decided you had to do it some more!
Hehe, seriously, I'm glad to see this plan and I hope it works out very well for all involved.
As for the Hero-Con regulars and hopefuls... Perhaps something less official can be worked out.
Especially if something is planned around one of the other California events... You may be able to pull some sort of multi-day CoH get together or something.
Due to Paragon Studio's location... even if it is not during another event (And maybe it'd be better outside of another event), you may be able to get something going.
Regardless, this should be a fun year
And thanks again for the great time in Boston!
Excelsior!! -
I like Marauder's background/bio very much!
A silly thought crossed my mind when reading it... It'd be a fun stand alone game to play as Michael White and that story. A sort of CoH meets Road Warrior that ends with you becoming Preator of Security! Or some alternative endings, based on the player's choice, of course
Haha, not that I think it should be made, necessarily... But it inspired the thoughts and, thus, I thought it was a great background!
Very nice display of the types of paths that can lead to dark and/or misguided choices/roles. With a fun super-hero-y element to boot!
Well done -
I really seem to love them all (Although,I have to give Controllers and Stalkers more of a whirl)...
But I got so lucky and found my love in Electric/Electric/Electric Blaster... The Electro-Blaptroller, jack of many trades... zapper, sapper, blapper, troller...
After a while, I started getting into trouble, because I would delay a bit, unsure which method of taking out a MOB I wanted to go with, debating within myself... hehe... the split-seconds are too precious when you're a blaster though.
Honestly, Blasters give me some of the most thrill... Learning to play the game solo as a blaster and constantly living on that edge of the glass cannon gave me so much enjoyment. It was tough to learn to appreciate the other ATs afterward
I have to admit, Scrappers are a big ball of fun... as is my Bots/Force Fields Master Mind and my Mind/Psi Dominator... Bah, I love them all... But my E3 Blaster is my favorite. -
Quote:Exactly!LOL! Thanks for that.
Reminds me of those cartoons where the hero gets all smug when he thinks the enemies are fleeing away from him... until he turns around and sees the hulking monstrosity standing behind him!
Haha, just when I got done shedding tears of laughter from the original two posts... Nuclear Toast made me shed a tear with that lovely poem rewrite!
Haha! -
Our group, the Paragon Universe, found a base of operations in a pocket dimension. So far, the specifics of the dimension around it have been (intentionally) left unexplored/nonspecific.
It's basically just a pocket of existence big enough to house our base (It once expanded and the base grew in size).
Our Villain base is called The Rogue Universe and is an old casino/inn and is located in an older section of St. Martial (Unfortunately for business... not near the main district where the big casinos are). -
Welcome to the game!
You've gotten some solid advice here.
While making a Scrapper and learning the game is a fine suggestion... Do not think that you need to at all.
You can learn the game with your level 10 character, no problem. Head to Kings Row and speak to the Detective there to get your Police Band Radio.
Eventually, you'll find some other contacts to give you missions. Kings Row and Skyway City... Oh... head to the Hollows... There are some great missions in The Hollows to get you going at your level!
Also, if you want to make another character... Seriously, you can learn the game on any Arch Type... Don't feel the need to focus on Scrappers... or tanks... or anything. You can learn as Blaster (Like I did) or a Controller or a Defender... any of them.
Since you chose Tanker... there may be a good reason. Something you read about their description that called to you.
Some of us thrive on making a lot of characters... Some of us love just playing one strong concept that calls to them.
Do what feels right to you! And, really (Truly) there is very little you can do to throw yourself too far off course to being successful in this game.
Yep, Air Superiority is the power you're talking about... And it is a wonderful attack power (Nice damage and it has a great chance of knocking your opponent onto the ground) and it is a great choice on your way to getting Flight! So, good choice!
(I don't know if this was answered) Influence is the in-game currency. You earn it alongside XP when you defeat enemies and complete missions. It comes in at a nice pace as you level. You can also make more by selling things on the Market (Wentworth's in Atlas Park, Steel Canyon and Talos Island) and also selling things at the NPC Stores if they're not selling on auction at Wentworths... Check prices between Wentworths and the NPC stores... Especially, for the Recipes you will pick up while defeating enemies).
Don't worry about any of this stuff... Just play, beat up the bad guys, save some innocent citizens, have tons of fun and, after a while, it will all become familiar to you.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
And let us know how it goes!
