Yush! Just about every head detail and hair was clipping due to this.

And the fix is live now, right? (Sorry, when I posted my earlier response, I thought the patch was coming yesterday... not sure why!)

Interesting... Isn't that a large aspect of what humans value as evidence of their greatness?

Not that I disagree with the thought, mind you.

The basis for appointing villainy is often entirely a matter of perspective.

Hehe, seriously, I'm glad this made me dig that up, because I could use a drum set in my base and I am going to (at least) use this as inspiration/a basis and/or copy it directly.

So much that I love about the job he did with that.
One touch I love is that he has the sound engineer's area.
    The drum set, obviously...
And then just the pillars of flames, shooting up.
    So many great touches, hehe.

I remember going and trying to make the band on my own after seeing this the first time. I still have the saved costumes. I think I only got Gene and Ace done to my liking (I don't have Paul or Pete saved, so I guess I didn't do well with them, hehe).

    Great stuff!

  5. HAHAHA

Yeah... Like I said, it's not what you wear... but how you wear it.

Mishii, I tell you what... If you (And anyone else) have any issues with my appearance, feel free to kindly tell me
    Heehee!
No one is saying anything about not looking good. Just not into following trends or rules.

Oh, and anyone who thinks about whether a look is dated, is generally not worried about dating themselves to the current time/trends.
Of course... few ever think modern trends will eventually look dated, hehe.

(All of this is with a smile and excitement to meet up on Friday... Especially if James is wearing a red bow tie!! )

  8. Sam, is this fixed as of now with the new patch today?

And I think the quote mentioned was actually a PM from David that someone posted here.

I haven't logged in today yet, so I don't know what the status of things are after the fix.

Hehe, ah, I honestly thought you might be more familiar with him and/or a fan

No, that famous bit (I imagine you're talking about the "Seven Words You Can't Say On Television", which he later added more to, hehe) was actually mocking not just censorship, but the very notion of how simple words are somehow deemed "bad".
However, that single bit wasn't my point of focus. He was just a rather famous example of a very intelligent person that used many words some consider "bad".

For myself, I just don't buy into words being bad in and of themselves (As curse words purely are held as, by some).
Defamatory, demeaning or abusive words... I cannot support.
The notion, that words that are not attacking anyone and just simply exist in some people's minds as taboo, is just silly to me.

Body parts, sex, excrement... These aren't concepts we need to hide from anyone.
They are things people need to understand and be respectful about, perhaps, but labeling some words as ones that only adults can use, but not children, just does the opposite of teaching respect.
And being afraid or ashamed of certain words is a comical affair with irrationality that I find somewhat amusing to observe.

All that said... I understand the general consensus of the society I live within. That doesn't, however, stop me from having my own opinion on it and handling things differently than others might like.

Not all of this was directed squarely at you, Dumple (If much any of it at all). I'm just babbling a bit and explaining myself a bit.

    CoP Update

Thanks a lot for putting this together.
We sure had a great turn out!

The Purple Stormy Aspect withstood our assault, but we did what we could.
Getting through to the portal went great.

I just hope that my electric blasts weren't holding our damage back.

I did have one awfully shameful moment... After about the 4th or more time of his shields coming down... for my first attack of that round... I accidentally hit WALK while flying up above you all...
I came crashing down... fell into his hurricane... Was whipped and tossed around... During which, I lagged out a bit, so that my pressing WALK wasn't toggling off the power... Ha... Ha...
And finally did manage to get back into the fight, but way too late on that round.

    Hahaha...
Other than that, I tried to be as quick and damaging as I could be!

I'm doing this again very soon.

Thanks a ton for arranging this and I look forward to next time (And likely a bunch of times after that).

I'd be happy if we never got gloves bigger than Large Robotic, I'd be happy if we never got a sword longer than Rularuu's Bane. That's just fine. But can we have some more options like those. Even one alternative to the Rularuu weapons would be very welcome, even one alternative to the Large Robotic (that isn't Enforcer) would be very welcome.

I just wanted to focus on this snippet of your reply, Sam, as I am both in total agreement with it and I think it is important for those (Myself almost included) against seeing things get ridiculously big.
I can't imagine having any problem with some variety in those options that already exist.
That is absolutely something I could agree to... It's not even a compromise, because... Those sized things already exist.
And, honestly, I have thought the same thing about the boots and gloves, at least. When I think... Hmm... I'd love something bulkier/bigger, like the Enforcer boots... but not the Enforcer boots specifically... There's no real option. Yay for the Praetorien Police Boots, for sure.
I would like to see some more of those sized things... For boots, it is really about the tapering out as opposed to tapering in at the ankle. At the least, staying straight and not tapering (Like the Praetorian PD boots).

Anyway... I just think that what I quoted from you is your best bet and the basis of a super reasonable request for some more variety in that field.
And I think the pictures you included in your original post overshadow the simplicity and reasonableness of your expectations/request.

It also surprises me how the discussions often seem to revolve mostly around the language itself, as if that was somehow the source of ill will between players.

I always felt it's far worse to kindly inform a player that "you sir, are an idiot", than it is to have a character use the phrase "eat ****, ************" in RP. In pretty much all games I've even been on though, I've seen people banned for using the f-word carelessly - and at the same time, I've seen others escape without even a slap on the wrist, despite repeatedly going out of their way to hurt and insult other players in an OOC fashion, albeit using posh language to do so. It all feels extremely foreign to me.

Anyone else playing the EU servers, who is noticing a difference in attitudes towards language and intentions?

Calling a player a smeghead... I'd consider it offensive to no end. Far worse than using "profanity" in character. The intentions, and the intended target, matter so little. "Euphemisms and invented vulgarities" just strike me as odd, and again, very american. Someone comes up to me and writes "What the frack are you doing?!", to me it's little more than a way to circumvent the profanity filter. We all know the meaning of frack is equivalent of ****, don't we?

    Mac
That's a great observation. And very sad. I agree.
Of course, I don't think most anyone in this thread would condone that type of "properly" worded insult over simple, untargeted swearing... But your observation is a smart one, in my opinion.

Personally, I find the whole curse/swear word thing rather foolish.

That being said, I am quite a gentleman about how I speak around others... However, I can also use curses every other word if I feel the need.

All in all... I don't think the you will have any troubles with any of the mentioned topics or language in game and in role-playing.
If you do... you're possibly playing with the wrong people for yourself and should have little problem finding others with similar interests.

Absolutely. I don't believe Lucas panders to that or any group (Including the raging anti-Lucas people who claim that the prequels suck). He's the biggest independent film maker... well, ever. He doesn't pander to SAG or anyone and he takes the fines for it (No actor credits in the beginning of the movie... FINE... among other things).
While he may or may not try and be mindful of such things, I don't believe for a second that he altered his story for those purposes.

    Sort of.
My personal opinion is that that change is ridiculous, sucks, looks terrible and that the reasoning given is a load of bantha poodoo. There's nothing wrong with Han blasting Greedo and even if there were, so be it.
    HOWEVER...
I often wonder how many people actually know/remember how that scene actually played out originally.
It is a bit weird... and it makes me think that Lucas always had some sort of issue with that scene.
You don't see anyone "shooting first".
It's done a bit oddly, in that there's just a burst of smoke and flashing light and Greedo is dead.
Just something that I find funny and interesting.
We all know Han shot first... But... it wasn't even really shown that way.
    Kinda funny.

Lucas doesn't need any defending at all and certainly not about this.
There's nothing wrong with it and I could name a few things that make it important for the story for him to be around that age, but... like I said... when it comes to someone's creation... the only answer that is needed is "because".

Just because you didn't like it doesn't mean it was crap.
And just because I like it doesn't mean it is gold.

  18. Hehe, this is the truth, the solution and the problem to everything.

It's all the same thing. The balances of confidence, respect, ego...

Perhaps instead of focusing on SGs, we should work on world peace... Maybe SGs will be helped out in the process.
  19. One of the things that keeps happening in all of these threads is that different posters focus on extreme negatives. When the opposite negative is talked about, the farther extreme opposite is raised as a counter point and whatnot... Hehe, that can be a bit silly.

Bad is bad. Whichever side it falls on. Extremes on either side of any such conversation are obviously a bad thing. (i.e. vet SG members being snobbish, rude, dismissive vs. new SG recruits being too shy, overly demanding, overly-critical anti-socials)

[The following is a combination of being completely messed up on cold meds for a sinus infection that won't go away and a new cold that just came along on top of it along with a healthy dose of perpetual humorous cynicism. So, please keep that in mind.
P.S. I freely admit that the meds may not be playing a factor at all.]

Let's face it... the best and worst part of any collective group of people are... People.
When they're great, they're great. When they're not, they're not.

Humans seem to function best with each other when the interaction is violence.
You hit them harder and drag away their valuables... All is good.
    Works nicely.

    Getting along... Not so easy.

It's very difficult to overcome these human-based issues in any and every situation. Online gaming interactions are definitely included.
When something goes wrong against what you (the universal you) would like, don't just jump to the conclusion that the reason is some negative factor that you've either imagined or experienced in the past.

The key to working together is giving people some benefit of the doubt.
Is a group struggling? Why? Is there potential there for greater? If so, don't dismiss them as only being that negative possibility... Maybe you are part of the solution that the SG needs.

Is a new member struggling struggling to get involved? Why? Is there potential there for greater? If so, don't dismiss them as only being that negative possibility... Maybe you (Or the SG) are part of the solution that this player needs.

I use this mindset for both joining and recruiting.

I'm a patient person. I don't just join things without looking into it, trying it out... I am a huge proponent of teaming with and playing with groups before making decisions.

Talking about how things will be and/or are is an entirely different thing to how things truly will be and/or are.
There's no workaround or way of discovering the true chemistry of relationships, other than actually trying it out. (That's right, honey! Let's just get it onn and see!! [okay, that was the meds])

    Lastly... Never forget to-

[Just chiming to share my view, all in fun]

Lothic, it's all cool and well when there's something that doesn't bother you, but that doesn't mean it's not a legitimately bigger deal (within reason and understanding of all things within a silly video game, make pretend time, nothing really matters vibe) to someone else.
Don't get me wrong... Your main point is completely reasonable and I agree, to a point. If I can't have it in game... Then I can't make it. Period. The thing is... when the pieces do exist in game and you can't get them until level 35... Well, it eventually just becomes a bit silly, to some people.

So, just because I don't care about blah blah blah and never have a problem with it doesn't make it ridiculous for others to have a problem with it and that things can never be changed or done differently in the future.

Now... I actually think having unlockable costume stuffs in games is a good thing. However, I would go about it slightly differently, if I were (What I am not) in charge, hehe.
Just in that I would like to have unlockable costume bits that are more detailed, specific or perhaps a bit more jazzy than more generic versions of the same or similar items that are already available to the players.
As an example... Roman-type pieces: I would have maybe one set of costume pieces available for people who would like to make such a character from the beginning. Just some straight up, somewhat generic bronze-age armor pieces, roman helmet(s) and sandals and skirts and whatnot.
Then I would have more spiffy versions of these things as unlockables from the ITF and such.

Of course, some people would still want those cooler items from character creation (And I do get that point and understand) and so, no, you can't please everyone... I just see having rewards such as that available in game as being good incentive for different styles of players to try things they may not have done otherwise.
Costume junkies may never have done the ITF if it didn't offer costume pieces, hehe.
Still... I would love to see this sort of idea in place... Especially for some of the Vet Reward Costume Pieces (Those are big culprits).
Males have NO shorts... No shorts... Until you unlock the Boxer shorts after 39 months of playing. Hehe, that's a little screwy!
I'd do the same with samurai pieces. Kilts and trench coats come pretty early... Those aren't huge offenders... Although, I could certainly see that going either way.

Anyways, not a serious issue with me at all, just sharing my thoughts on this topic derail... Weeeee!
  22. Hmm... Jack Kirby drew me into it!
    Get it? Get it?

Really though... I was happily playing another game, a long time ago... in a galaxy far far away...
And I knew of CoH's existence. I thought it seemed kinda cool, but never checked it out, because I was more than happy with my one mmorpg and had no plans to leave nor play any other ones.
A friend played CoH from launch... I actually got to mess around in the character creator and see it in action. While I was impressed with the character creator, it didn't exactly impress me in game (But I didn't give it much of a shot, in all fairness... as I wasn't interested).

SOmE evil jerkos took away our beloved space fantasy game... And, after giving their new game a try for some time... a break... and one last go with it...

My wife and I left that behind and decided we'd go through every free trial for all the mmorpgs out there in early 2006.

CoH was on top of my list.
I was a bit familiar with the community, just because I had visited the forums a few times and grown to enjoy some of the running jokes, the camaraderie between the Devs and the players and the overall vibe I got from it.

We started the CoV 10 Day Trial...

    And we didn't look back.
I think one of the biggest things (Among many) that thrilled me was the Physics system. Knocking people around, up, down, over ledges, seeing them hanging, dangling... having it done to you... It just made (And still makes) every single moment of every encounter potentially something unique. I love that.

During those 10 days, we ordered both CoH and CoV (I guess we got the GvE at that time).
We stuck around for 3 months... and never stopped loving it... But it was too soon after losing the previous game that we loved for over 3 years.
So, we took a break, both saying and knowing that we'd be back.

Sure enough... Less than a year later, we re-upped and we haven't stopped once since.
  23. Electric-Knight

    The bigness!

I think there is a bigger that could be achieved well in this game.
I don't think it is nearly as large as some of the examples here, but I do think there is room for some more.

I'd like to see the huge models able to be a bit bigger all around (Especially with the hands and feet and head).
And really, I'd like that for all models. We've talked about that... glove and boot options for truly massive hands and feet. That fits the general CoH style.

I definitely would love to see even taller options for characters... but I don't know that it would ever happen (It opens up a lot of problems... mostly by closing off doors, since they'd be too small).

As for weapons, that pic of the thin girl holding those two silly fantasy swords... That is just a bad example. It looks bad.
Sam's follow up with the Mutant Pack swords is not anywhere near as ridiculous, in my opinion. The swords just are curved and shaped in a better way than those from whatever game that other one is from. And the way they are being held just looks completely different.
I have no idea how they animate in the other game and all and that pic may just be a bad representation of it... but only having that to go by, those are my opinions on that.

I think expecting or wanting some major size beyond what we have for this game is likely unreasonable, just from the standpoint of the technical hurdles and it not being bloody likely that they'll try and shoe-horn such things in. We're never going to see huge Transformer-types as player characters in CoH. (I know, never say never)

I'm not a fan of the ginormously over-sized weapon style... However, I am not opposed to it existing in this game for those who want it, so long as it fits within the artistic style that does exist throughout this game.
That style is broad, indeed, but it still exists.

So, I don't have much to say about this other than... I think there is room for more bigger stuff... but probably not too much nor too big.

    New Aura Preview

    Oooooooooh... Wow
That storm cloud thing is very interesting!

Another cool and noteworthy aspect, of both the Snow and the Fireflies auras, is the inclusion of the individual left and right hand options.
Since getting the Alpha and Omega auras with those options, I've wondered if we may see those options with all the previous auras...
    Would be nice, eh?
(One for each eye, like the cyborg combat aura has would be nice too, btw...)
  25. And yeah, QuiJon... Remember all the people who hated the Ewoks in RotJ? Too kiddy and stuff, hehe.

One other note on something you said about the special effects.
While you're right that the general viewer is not going to notice the ground-breaking effects and tech that was achieved (And furthered) in each of the prequels... They actually did continue to break ground and create new plateaus and standards.
Sometimes, the beauty of great magic is when it goes unnoticed.

Anyways... I generally never get involved in Star Wars conversations with strangers any more. It should be lumped in with religion as verboten topics on such forums, hehe. (Although, not that anyone has been overly rude or anything in here... And no, I won't say "yet"!)
