My biggest beef is in line with what Psyonico posted about the powers layout. Frost might be improved, but dayam, that is a long haul for the next actual attack power, and the dmg output till you get there is sucktastic.
[/ QUOTE ]
That being said, I'd roll an ice/ brute/scrapper in a heartbeat, because I'd only have to wait till 18 to get more attacks, and it's entirely reasonable to assume the devs would do a power re-order to make it even more tempting.
[/ QUOTE ]
Indeed. Part of why I made this thread actually. I was hoping more for "I wish they would swap Build up(or?) and (power x) to make more attacks available earlier" and the like, rather then spawn 2 pages of "cause brutes in betaz" idiotic ancient arguments. So many things have changed since cov beta that most of the arguments and "I was in it!!" anecdotes are irrelevant.
For instance, Ice/ scrappers. Would being a primary, and the base dmg uppage for scrappers make Ice/ that much better? Or would the underlying flaws found in it now still show? I am inclined towards the latter. Maybe frozen fists will feel more adequate and less of an endurance waste, and ease the wait for more attacks(lvl 18 instead of 28). Then again, maybe a low lvl Ice/ scrapper compared to other scrappers would magnify the issues more then comparing tanker secondaries does. -
[ QUOTE ]
It's a lot better since the buffs and has a lot more control and AOEs than SS even if it lacks the raw numbers.
[/ QUOTE ]
Why did you single out SS? Because thats in my sig as my main? Just curious. I have like 40 characters I play regularily, and I tried ice like 4 times, twice since the buffage. How do you feel ice ranks vs other sets? How about ice vs, say, stone with fault and tremor, and gobs more ST dmg, as you mention mitigation and aoe?
My biggest beef is in line with what Psyonico posted about the powers layout. Frost might be improved, but dayam, that is a long haul for the next actual attack power, and the dmg output till you get there is sucktastic. -
Myself, I like it in concept, and I am pretty sure I would like it at high levels.
Pretty sure, because I cant get past lvl 15 or so before deleting in frustration because of the total lack of damage output. I look on my powers list, and see the frozen footstomp at the bottom, but its lvl 38 and I cant bring myself to grind that long for one power.
I bring this up because I was thinking about set proliferations and it occurred to me, "what if they ported /Ice to scrappers or brutes as is?" and I decided I wouldnt like that, even if frozen footstomp was lvl 32. the set is just too....mediocre, and thats being nice IMO.
So, what do you think? Would you like an ice/ scrapper as is? Or would you rather see some rework/buffage first? -
detonator is the tier 9 power in traps, OP said she was bots/traps.
-
Here what you do.
That drone, when he runs in close to all the mobs by himself:
1). Select him. use the petsay command to make him say "I am a moron!!"
2) Click "detonator"
3). Click the "Battle Drones" power to make a new drone.
4). laugh and laugh at your newfound "volunteer" as he repeats the behavior over and over. -
Well, in the spirit of the OP, I will put my two arcs up for review. A couple notes....
Uberbots, if you solo this on anything above heroic the last mission will spawn the uniques as EB, and they will be rather difficult. My lvl 50 inv/SS tank tried to test this arc on invince, he faceplanted 3 times before i gave up. So, if you want to solo it, set it to heroic. teams, anything should be fine, in fact I would be curious how an 8 man invincible set team handles it. Oh, and it has a snakesssss mision, so watch out if you are lvl 42ish. the spawn lvl split to the elder snakes is harsh at that lvl.
I have recieved a few ratings on this one, but no feedback at all yet.
The pawn of time one, I got a feedback a week ago(last one i got on it) that said one of my bosses had his enemy group set to "all custom". I looked through my arc, but I cant find that anywhere. if you see it, please let me know which one it is, or which mission etc.
Both of these need some fine tuning to be stellar, but I need some more feedback so I can get a feel what the masses want out of them. They are both listed as "very long" but both have at least one mission that can be mostly skipped over if you arent interested in fighting, and there are no giant outdoor maps or anything, so the time to go through them isnt as bad as it sounds.
thanks in advance! -
I have an nrg/fire, lvl 42. Burn is useful much the same way blazing aura and hot feet are.
Each of those powers is sorta meh on their own. hot feet is the best of the three by itself, but nothing spectacular compared to say, FSC or fire sword. But, when you combine them all, suddenly they all become quite good.
You wont see much milage out of burn in the 30's. but, the slow and dot from hot feet, and the dot from blazing aura, on top of burn, works pretty well. the foes freak out, and run away somewhat slowly while taking some solid dmg. Some foes dont get the fear effect, like robot types.
In your particular combo of fire/fire however, damage output is not an issue. you would likely be better served by building for more recharge for your traditional AOE's vs trying to use a quirky one like burn.
Bottom line, if you dont plan on taking all three powers, and slotting them fairly well, I would not bother with burn at all.
Also, if the -KB in CJ is the only one you will have, that wins hands down. -
I am a vet, all the way from I2. I care about badges, but I would not call myself a "badger" as I am not that hardcore.
I do not mind the removing/reworking of these badges. but I also am not compulsive when it comes to the things, especially the epic ones thta take hours and hours of badge grind to get.
What I do not like about this change coming, is that the folks that did do the badge grind will get pretty much no compensation for having the badges yanked. Compensation has a lot of weight but I feel it fits this context.
Badges are rewards, trophy style accomplishments. The players that cherish these things get a great feeling of accomplishment and achievement when they see that badge award message come up. many of the badges have no other value besides that.
Bam! now some of those badges are gone. Your "work" wasted- your trophy is gone.
To me, there should be some type of exchange when this patch goes in. If it was me, I would reward tickets to the players losing those badges. At least then, there is something there that they get out of the time they put in to get the badges. -
So I saw some nice additions on Posi's little pop up window I got last night in game, and on a few places here on the forum. But no mention of any new powersets, or proliferations.
I was really hoping for dark or rad blasters. -
I like Vaz. I like the stupid zombie animations and unique characteristics the mobs have. Zombies resist various mex effects, hit hard, but run very slow. Some blow up, the liuts can rez, etc. All in all, they offer a type of challenge other groups cant.
As for the caves, I have been using cov cave sets vs coh ones. many cov caves have a color scheme that is easier to see in. I think the cov CoT maps also have some rooms that dont exist in the coh ones. but its been a while since i ran a lot of cov content to compare. Just a thought. -

Sorry, I didn't check the labelling. I just presumed from the Rogue Isles reference. The contact definitely presents the activity as neutral to heroic. To the original intent of the thread, the highest "market" out there is the heroic side.
[/ QUOTE ]
well, to be fair, the contact is an arbiter heh. I was trying to keep it neutral even though it's a battle vs a bunch of EB heroes. its an arbiter contact and you sort of work with arachnos, but there isnt anything "evil" going on. just trying to keep the peace on the isles at first, and then discourage the good Doctor from returning to stir up more trouble there.
Maybe I will review my dialogue and try to get that idea across better. -

[ QUOTE ]
Cramming a decent arc desc into a limited number of characters is an art unto itself.
[/ QUOTE ]
Very true, and they should provide a little action and excitement. Fire up someone's imagination.
To the OP, here is one of your arcs (107020) and my reaction/thoughts on it as prospective player:
<font class="small">Code:[/color]<hr /><pre>Take on Dr. Gravito and his Uberbot series of robotic guardians.</pre><hr />
My take: Sounds like a small to mid-size single mission arc, but it is for a four mission arc? What are the stakes, what great good or evil am I to do?
Digging a little further I look at the mission intro... So this guy's blown into the Rogue Isles and caused some chaos for me to clean up?
Not saying to do it this way (look inside your mission for some tantalizing bit of story or reward or whatever you can tease with), but to me something more along the lines of:
<font class="small">Code:[/color]<hr /><pre>The Rogue Isles are in chaos, and not the opportunity factory type chaos
you've come to know and love. Take matters into your own hands, "make it your way,"
and take out the upstart Dr. Gravito and his "Uber" bots in the process. [Medium challenge][SFMA]</pre><hr />
Would catch my eye, oh, that is if I played any villains.
Another place to see what is working is search on 4 star arcs, look at ones with a 100+ plays, read their descriptions. If one got completely ambitious, then find some screenwriting sites. Descriptions for arcs are very similar to pitches for movies in what should work, etc.
[/ QUOTE ]
I do need to elaborate a little in the description, I will give you that. Sometimes I think the first page in the arc creator should be the last, so writers have a good feel for what is in their story for both description, and title. Of course, revisiting the page is also simple enough
I was also leery at first of calling the arc "villainous" as I felt it would limit exposure. Dr. Gravito and his bots are heroes, but fighting them of itself isnt necessarily evil, and the missions were designed for story as well as the fun of the challenge, particularily the last mission. The arc as a whole is written pretty lightheartedly.
I will ponder the idea of labeling it villain though, as it would allow for some more sinister type dialogue.
thanks for the feedback! -
[ QUOTE ]
I played a Pawn in Time. Thought it was rather good. A comfortable 4 stars. The other one looked fun, but I got into the first mish and my level 42 Defender was facing level 46 Elder Snakes... no thanks. Snakes spawn weirdly because of that split level thing they have going. I'll give it a go with my 50 Brute, but does it have to be Snakes?
[/ QUOTE ]
I picked snakes because they were listed in the lvl 1-54 range on the foes list. I forgot about the spawning thing actually. I ran the arc testing it with my lvl 50 invuln tank, on invinc. I didnt have much trouble with the snakes at that lvl. The EB uberbots though, were pretty harsh for me solo.
I also ran it after publish with my lvl 31 fire/mental blaster, on heroic. Also not to much trouble on the snakes, and the uberbots spawned as bosses. tough, used several inspirations and died on one of them, but I didnt think the challenge level was to out of hand.
Good feedback though! I may investigate altering the snakes thing and adjusting the story for it. -
[ QUOTE ]
#1 add your arcs to your sig file here
#2 rate other peopels arcs and in feedback ask for them to run one of yours
#3 post a thread in the Stories and Lore section, and ask for feedback
[/ QUOTE ]
well I did number 1 and 3, havent gotten any bites out of number 3 yet heh.
I will have to try the feedback "star barter" approach to tonight maybe. Thanks for the ideas cat. -
heh, so yeah. I dont know if this is a problem in the classic sense of the word, but it is pretty dissapointing when I log on and nobody has rated an arc I spent hours on.
I dont really know how to "fix" this eighther, I mean, there are so many arcs, many are bound to be overlooked right?
How do most people overcome this? advertise in broadcast or here? ask around in game? I asked my wife( infrequent player) to go through my two arcs and rate them 5 stars on her account just so someone did lol, but thats cheating in a way
anyway, if anyone is curious, my two arcs are numbers 107020 named Uberbots! and number 93496 A pawn in Time.
My Global is Eldagore.
heh, plug my own stuff!!
anyway, anyone else spend hours on their arc, only to watch it move into the middle of the crowd of unrated oblivion? -
[ QUOTE ]
This thread would have been legitmate if had just been about War Mace. Everything said about War Mace was legitimate.
Throwing Energy Aura in there, frankly, just throws up a smoke screen that cleverly masks any chance this thread ever had at not failing.
[/ QUOTE ]
lol. I just thought this was amusing somehow. never judge a book by its cover so to speak. now that the thread has aged, and been entertaining all the while, I found this post in particular funny. -
I think it's a good idea. I just had a discussion about respecs with my brother who recently restarted his sub. new players dont have the several vet specs available to many of the readers of this forum, and it is nice that the option is available. Long gone are the days where terribly unsatisfactory builds have to suffer through until they can run the respec trial in the 20's.
on a side note, please move lupin to a lower lvl friendly zone. A lvl 1 character can run and see the hero contact. Yes I know, why would you need to, but the degree of seperation between the ease of use with hero vs villain on this is pretty extreme. Can we get Lupin moved to port oakes or something? -

So, uh, if you didn't get the new patch that was recalled, does that mean you won't have to update when you try and log in?
[/ QUOTE ]
You won't have a patch when you log in next. It's just business as usual like any other day. Were testing something on the Training Room (see this post) and will let you all know what we plan to do moving forward once that plan is ready for public consumption.
[/ QUOTE ]
I am looking forward to devouring this new plan. It sounds delightful. -

only two handed weapons have a different run animation. Dual Blades, Katana, ect. All one handed weapons do not run any different than normal when they have a weapon drawn.
[/ QUOTE ]
pretty sure my ice tank runs like a girlie girl when he has his blackwand drawn. but i would have to log on to check and i cant right now -
[ QUOTE ]
Since this thread has been renamed Animations, and is not about issue 7 claw changes anymore....
Can we get a new run animation for one handed weapon? I'm not sure about regular male and female body types, but huge runs exactly the same as normal when your weapon id drawn. It looks silly with your giant Ax or sword or whatever flailing about as you run. If you could just hold your weapon off to the side slightlty and keep it steadt as you run, it would be 100 time better. Just sayin....
EDIT* Just checked, it's the same for all body types. This one animation change would affect Mace, Ax, Broadsword, Stone Melee, Fire Melee, Bane Spiders, and Ice melee. One aniamtion change to improve QoL on all those sets. Seems like a reasonable change.
[/ QUOTE ]
Nah, whats silly is huge body type running with a bow drawn. it's rather.....feminine. cant recall for sure, but i think the same animation for running is used with vet reward items like ax and staffs. -

Okay, forget for a minute that I'm an idiot, and that you hate me and the population of PWNZ. Okay? Now, here's a how-to/heads-up to the forum newbies/interested couples/singles on the PWNZ forum.
//////////////////////////////////
Okay, my "/" fetish has been satiated for the moment/second ([censored]!). This guide is to explain what the hell PWNZ is for people who are too lazy to go to the "What the heck is the PWNZ forum?" thread, and this is a bit more colorful and sarcastic.
1. What the heck is PWNZ anyway?
PWNZ was created back in the day for people to tout challenges (lolPvP) and mess around with each other on the forums because they couldn't piss off enough people in-game. It was split from PvP General because of flaming issues and the fact that nobody that visited PvP General left with their lunch. It's seen some of the most (dis)respected forum goers in the entire forum; Meldash, Sixy, H0j, Greyle, _Kid_, M3z, Rystorm, Herr_Salmon, Flea_Mark_Evil, and more then can be mentioned. I know I forgot some. Don't care.
2. Who usually takes part in the PWNZ forum debates/debacles?
Well, the daily regulars usually consist of: Cheita_Corps, Spinestradomus, Xury2 (rarely), Flower_VAse, Fuzzywonder22, wombatula, Ex Libris - our resident forum Mod (rarely), Syph (aka Chris_Crocker), New_Era, Marcian_Tobay, Cynergyspyke, Reiraku, Lovelife, Grinnz, M3z (again, rarely), and of course, me. I know I probably missed some again, but those are just the ones off the top of my head. PM meh if I missed you, providing you care enough in the first place.
4. What usually goes on in PWNZ?
Well, depending on the day/hour you join our lovely section of the forums, there are a wide range of topics including, but not limited to;
Wii's and SSBB
Funny-[censored] threads to watch and lawl at
Our Silly Antics
and Random [censored] we know nothing about.
Yes, there is no 3. 3 is overrated.
5. Why would I post in PWNZ?
Because you want to be funny? I dunno. Nobody comes to PWNZ for the sole reason to post in PWNZ and "get in" with us. We aren't even the "in" people. We're the out. So if you want to get "in" with the "out" guys, this is the place. Nobody likes us because we don't think that the internet is srs bzns. If you think it is, more power to you. We tl;dr and /jranger things here just to mess around. Of course, we also troll the forums every once in a while for kicks, but that's another story and another ban...
We basically just screw around here because if we did that everywhere else, we'd get banned and that wouldn't be very good. For us.
6. How can I get "in" with PWNZ?
You don't . How many times do I have to say that? We aren't a clique, though most people think we are. We just screw around in our free time. If you want to post there, you might get a laugh, or you might get a gtfo. It just depends on the day of the week, or for some of us *cough*M3z*cough* the time of the month.
7. So, if PWNZ is just a place for trolling, laughing at each other, making fun of Mod3, Mod4, and Mod9, pissing off newbies, thinking up shiny red titles, SSBBPvP codes, links to meatspins, RickRolls, and YTMND, why have it when the devs can focus their options on other, healthier things for the community?
Because if they destroyed PWNZ and let us out, there'd be a lot more than Hell to pay. Think Sixy, Meldash, 2 guys 1 elephant, massive lawlz and permabans. The devs don't want that. They're like a smaller, smarter version of the U.S. (or if you'd prefer, the Canadian) Government. They keep the psychos penned up away from society so it doesn't get plunged into total anarchy. I exaggerate, of course, but you get the picture.
8. So, why are you making this FAQ/Guide to PWNZ anyways?
So a certain someone will give me a [censored] personal title. I'm very keen on shiney titles. That, and it would definitely help some people who have no clue what PWNZ is and what they'd be getting themselves into by posting even a single thing in PWNZ.
9. So, if I want to post in PWNZ, what should I do to prepare myself for it?

When explaining traditions, Spazz, you forgot the part where this person insists that they are not that person while very obviously being so.
Heh, when I saw that the fourth link was to "Random [censored]", I thought "Yeah... that's going to be 'quarters thread'".

You mean the post you wrote where you think I'm TOTALITY? I'm actually offended by that accusation you made.

edit: and Marcian, I'd have explained that, except I was 3 quarts drunk at the time and couldn't remember everything. Also, I'm too lazy to do anything about it now.

What worries me is not the change over, there is no point complaining it is done. It was a single sentence in one of the announcements pointing out that while they are continuing with the free release of issue they are also looking at other things.
I suspect that means paid expansions or CoX 2, for some reason this is really making me uneasy. Maybe its just the whole no sequel ever outdoes the original kinda thing (generally).
I will wait and see, but if this game starts becoming a money sink (beyond the monthly payment) then I am gone.

This was my take as well. obviously issue 12 was mentioned in the press stuff, so thats a go for .....january? maybe feb i spose depending on whats in it.
but after that..... whos to say any new power sets or even major zones will be free issue content? looking at NC and heck, most anyone else's game, zones and new "classes" are things to buy in a box.
that said, free issue stuff as it has been to me is one of the top 3 reasons i havent looked elsewhere for my game time. the other 2 are the ability to solo in an MMO( at a fair pace, and with a feeling of accomplishment in short sessions) and the simple game mechanics and powers. despite all the pvp and nerfing thats in the games history, and the departure from the real "corny" or "gimicky" super hero comic book stuff (it used to be more comic feel then now, the animations for the leadership toggles sums up the feeling i am talking about) it really is a unique fun game for me.
One thing i am glad for, the States is leaving now. for some reason, i think we will see some return to days of old power creep and more pve centric development from Posi and NC soft.
i dont want to shun the pvp crowd, but the holy grail of balance the States was after is unobtainable. driving away customers in droves to try to catch a pipe dream was bad for this game.
I am excited for the language of "full development team" and talk of more recourses in the press stuff too. maybe some long standing bugs can get squashed. maybe some of the "hard to do " sets can see light of day with more labor thrown at them, like sheilds and the giant growth ideas. all in all, leaving a balance crazed leader behind in favor of a team focused on new goodies has to be positive for the future of this game.
if all the goodies have to be purchased for 35.99 in a box though.....
