how much are vahz and oranbega hated?
People dislike them. Intenseley. Vahz more than Orangebagel, typically. That said, if it fits, use them!

I've never had a problem with Vahz, but I am one of those who detest Oreobagel maps. There are plenty of other places they could be gathering for their dire plans: A small cave or outdoor place, an office building, even a casino. The random portals, difficult to spot tunnel paths, funny floating rock sections (where important glowies inevitably spawn) and just sheer length of them make them unpleasant runs.
In any case if your arc forms more or less as scripted I can't wait to try it (at least mission 4): I play a little with the Yin/Clockwork King relationship in the Easter mission I made and I love seeing how other people approach it.

I am probably going to make mission 4 just for fun anyway. I could potentially use it for a different arc.
Vahz hate I understand - they hit hard, and their damage has a toxic component, and you encounter them at low levels. That combo screams annoying.
Oranbega hate I don't really understand. I can understand portal hate - there's often a maze of portals on larger Oranbega maps that get really confusing. But the tileset itself looks great, IMO, and there are a lot of smaller Oranbega maps that don't have the portal maze problem. Other than that, large Oranbega maps have the same problem that all large maps have. No reason to call out Oranbega specifically, unless there's something I'm missing.

Generally speaking, I think what people hate are certain *kinds* of missions on Oranbega maps. There are at least two "standard" Thorns missions that are practically design to engender Oranbega Hate. One's a "Defeat all enemies," the other has a ridiculous number of glowies (like 15 or something?) Don't do that.
I'm planning on using an Oranbega map on my current arc, but I certainly won't make it a Defeat All. I'm not even sure if the spawn points for enemies are located in their proper spots (it's possible there are different spawning points for the MA versions of maps compared to the normal mission maps, which had so many bad spawn points fixed in the past).
I'm also looking at specific maps to use. I'd like to use a random selection, for replayability, but I might have to select a certain map and use only that (I wish we could pick a set of maps, and create a Custom Map Group).

If you're going to use Oranbega, use a map that's either fairly small or fairly linear or both, and make sure there aren't any random portals. At the levels you're looking at, the demon portal room is right out. If Oranbega best fits your arc though, use it.
As for vahz, they'll be right there in your mission description, so if people really hate them that much, they'll just avoid your arc. Again, if they fit the arc, use them.

that's the concern. My amazingly perfect arc I have published only has 23 plays. If people won't play my arc because of the vahz I'd rather do something they will play.
I like Vaz. I like the stupid zombie animations and unique characteristics the mobs have. Zombies resist various mex effects, hit hard, but run very slow. Some blow up, the liuts can rez, etc. All in all, they offer a type of challenge other groups cant.
As for the caves, I have been using cov cave sets vs coh ones. many cov caves have a color scheme that is easier to see in. I think the cov CoT maps also have some rooms that dont exist in the coh ones. but its been a while since i ran a lot of cov content to compare. Just a thought.

I don't think Vahz are as bad now as they were when the game first launched. Back then, no players had any toxic defense, which made the Vahz very tough.
Personally, if I can avoid it, I don't play missions with Vahz. It's not a matter of toughness, it's a matter of despising anything Zombie related and anything that involves enemies puking at me.
The Oranbega maps I like. They have character. And the fact that you have to *explore* them. I realize so many players like to just run in, kill things, and run out, but I like to explore and experience the story.
Kill All missions on those maps are a no-no though. I understand that one completely. But having to actually search for the person I'm supposed to rescue (or whatever the goal may be) is part of the fun for me. It adds to the adventure.
I am tempted to redo the Positron TF as an arc - with my own take on it. Redoing the plot massively, but keeping CoT, Vahz, and Clockwork in it.
Mission 1: CoT are raiding a tech building to steal plans to Faultline dam
Mission 2: To find entrance to Orabenga, explore sewers filled with Vahz.
Mission 3: Enter Orangebanana to stop CoT (too late)
Mission 4: Go with Penelope Yin to get Clockwork King to aid you in stopping CoT from blowing up dam (and flooding Penelope's shop in Faultline)
Mission 5: With Clockwork and Longbow allies, go to interior of dam and stop CoT from blowing it up.
Vahz and Orebanjo work well for the arc, but I have heard that people dislike them. Should I avoid them, or are rumors of the hatred exaggerated?
