(Note that you're actually only firing stuffed versions, not actual birds, nothing is harmed except human dignity.)

That said - if you got this weekend's £120m Euro jackpot or knew a John Hammond figure...
if you could play a real-life version of any video or tabletop RPG game, what would it be?

This should be visible for the next few nights - with the naked eye if you live somewhere clear of light pollution, with binoculars if you're in the city. Find the Plough, follow its "handle" and look just above and to the left to the Pinwheel (M101).

If you've got a decent telescope, you'll be able to see how it's lighting up its home cluster - and the tiny Vogon fleet a little bit closer than that.

Also, can I recommend http://www.universetoday.com/ - great SCIENCE news (bloody awful blog design, but hey).

I've never actually seen Catwoman use henches outside of the classic 60s series - she's more a team player, whether with other SVs (Bane, Harley, Ivy) or sidekicks like Arizona.

Still, if she was recruiting, I'd sign up. Well-thought-out plans, straight-down-the-line merc arrangements, no mass murdering on the menu... and reasonable taste in outfits.

Option 7: track down manufacturer using bracelet, phone up and asks if it comes in black. With matching heels. One, saving the world in style is important: two: "bright & colourful"="moving target". I'd rather not test its defensive capabilities if I can simply pass unnoticed.

    Oh re-e-a-a-lly...

*meep* You've reached the voicemail of Rupert Murdoch. He's not available right now, as he's trying to figure out why his family's bank accounts are empty, every black ops file on politicians and lawyers that News International owns has just been published by WikiLeaks, and every FOX news ticker is currently filled with Bill Hicks quotes. Please leave a message after the insane laughter.

So option 8: prankster vigilante. Think Edward Woodward's mores, Harley Quinn's methodology, Elvira's outfits.

  7. Definitely counting this one as a WIN. Did she say yes?

    ...spoilers.. <3
  8. It does at least include Rickman, Depp, Lee Jones and Stewart...

...anyone thinking Firefly: The Animated Series for this? More than a hint of Capn' Mal and Jayne in the two male leads. And a less-serious space MMO is something I've been hankering after for a while...

Quite common. "Attached" should mean that the actor/actress/director/writer has been approached (or their agent has) and has an agreement in principle to join the project.

However, naughtier producers will often release statements about "attachments" in the grand tradition of scrabbling together money from unsuspecting investors. (Oddly, bankable female stars tend to be announced when a producer is chasing male whale investors, rather than hedge funds or managed funds. Can't think why.)

Agencies tend not to question favourable attachments on the basis that (a) it's better to be talked about than not, and (b) an apparently hard-working star might just clear Project A off their schedule for Project B if a suitably larger offer is made (with the resulting percentage).
  13. Related news: Sharon Osbourne seen buying shares in Virgin Galactic. :P

Arthur C got an awful lot more right in his life, including comm sats and the missing neutrino theory (though vacuum energy seems to be a lot closer, thankfully, than the 3000ish deadline posted in my current read Songs of Distant Earth... and when do we get Quantum Drive?)

    So,WildStar...

NCSoft to bring us freeform Firefly funventuring in the psychedelic toon style of WoW,with the Inara role played by busty bunnygirls.

  15. A new thread celebrating those who may take their obsession just that little bit too far.

So... what say you to this?
  16. Am I the only person here who LOVES 1941 (particularly the John Williams score) with a passion that will not die??

By a curious coincidence, Batman Forever is now on ITV2 as I write this. On the face of it, you've got Tommy Lee Jones, whose awesomeness may not be questioned..

You also have Jim Carrey, who was at the time a very hot property in Hollywood. Nicole Kidman. Chris O'Donnell, who'd just come off the rather lovely Circle of Friends. And Val Kilmer, who was... a nutjob. In fact, described by Joel Silver as "the most psychologically damaged human being ever to walk on a film set". But actually got the best reviews, oddly enough.

So you have an epic budget, Joel Schumacher - more than competent to direct as evidenced by "Lost Boys" and the Grisham movies...

...and one of the worst scripts ever committed to computer memory. Ladies and gentlemen, meet Akiva Goldsman, writer of not just Batman Forever and Batman & Robin, but Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons, Lost In Space, Poseidon, Hancock and Deep Blue Sea. A track record of devastation through the 90s and 00s.

Actors can do a lot with the lines they have to speak. Alec Guinness managed to put so much gravitas into Lucas's lacklustre lines that millions believed in the Force. But... there are some scripts that should have never got to casting, let alone not been laughed out of a pitch meeting.
  17. I tend to go for "lovable rogue" types for Villains, who will invariably have nice shiny stuff - cars, clothing, gear - because being bad, for them, is all about fun. Where their idea of fun usually stops is mass murder (which also makes cleaning that nice new slinky burgling outfit all kinds of hell) or where doing good becomes more fun/profitable.

So they'll often end up on the side of good, getting more credit than the workaday-Joe Heroes whose actual job it is to save the day, and looking hotter as well.

It's kinda having your cake and eating it, true... well, somebody's cake. It was just lying there looking all sorta delicious. Think they'll mind?
  18. I completely misjudged what the "module" was for, and had to console a terrified and blubbering galpal. Haaaarrrrrssshh...

Incidentally, anyone driving the 405 through LA, look out for the WHOLE-BUILDING ad takeover by Starz. A 250-foot Jack is a distinct improvement to the skyline :P
  19. BTW,since the last time this thread popped up, I have read the greatest book in the world. Ever. One that should be worshipped through all time...

...because he'll probably still be gigging when we're all gone.

Seriously, any book that starts with the Stones being busted for possession in a backwoods town, but their redneck judge is late - having popped over to the off licence for a quarter of red-eye, and then promptly arrested by his own sheriff for being too drunk to preside?
