I'm speaking, of course, about giant diamonds.

I know, The Core makes reference to them as well... but that movie sucked!

Heh, that's the codename for the mountain made of diamond in Clarke's 2061. Of course, one has to wonder how the planet size diamond measures in quality. Clarity and color and all that. I wonder if one could "see through" it.

Related news: Sharon Osbourne seen buying shares in Virgin Galactic. :P

Arthur C got an awful lot more right in his life, including comm sats and the missing neutrino theory (though vacuum energy seems to be a lot closer, thankfully, than the 3000ish deadline posted in my current read Songs of Distant Earth... and when do we get Quantum Drive?)

Is it time for the dance of joy yet?

I still hope Arthur C Clarke ends up being right about space elevators. Space elevators are the coolest idea Mr Clarke as ever introduced me to.

Saw this article the other day. Can't say that I'm surprised that something like this actually exists. Seems logical.

Don't I know you???

Is that the sound of a lot of women suddenly wanting to build spaceships?

Carbon nanotubes may yet make this a reality. Sure it may be hundreds of years before it happens, but theoretically speaking it's at least within the realm of possibility. It's technically more "realistic" than warp drives and transporters at any rate.
