Try on this MA/Shield. It's what I'm building for, with two sets each of Touch of Death, Mako's Bite, and 5-slotted Scirocco's Dervish. Throw in a full set of Gaussian's into Build Up (it IS overslotted, but that's a sweet defense buff) and you're pretty much softcapped. Throw out Combat Jumping for stealth, and go hasten/SS instead of fly, and viola! Similar build to yours, with more positional def, and I think an extra attack for Crane Kick (just no extra slots). Went with Red Fortune for 'cuz it's cheaper. Didn't slot Aegis (five slots is what you need to get the most OOMPH from that IO set. So resistance may not be to taste, but then again, if you're not hit, who needs res?

Enhancement Diversification means that you can only modify a power to 100%; in practical terms, that's 3 Single Origin enhancements. Six-slotting passives should not be worth it, and certainly not at the expense of attacks.
So, six-slot attacks (Crushing Impact is a great set, and mostly cheap for +HP) work on global recharge with Luck of the Gambler +rech in weave, maneuvers, moment of glory, and consider picking up combat jumping for it's maneuvers-size bump to Defense at a fraction of the end cost.
Your power choices, aside from afore-mentioned CJ, look pretty solid. -
Thanks, all. Hope other BS/WP characters benefit as much from this thread as mine did.

Hi, all.
Started a Broadsword/Willpower scrapper the other day, and am really loving the combination. /Will's my favorite defense, and BS is something I've never used. I'd like to take this one through incarnate-dom, and so I'm putting together this end-game build.
I'm not sure what really to shoot for with i20 stuff in mind: +HP? Defense? Global recharge? (psi) Resists? So, I put it all in.... but should I focus on one of these aspects at the expense of the others?
If anyone cares to tweak, please do! But my budget isn't unlimited, so don't worry about purple sets.
Thanks for any input!

And this discussion is still relevant for Broadsword/, right? Levelling up a BS/WP here, and am looking at endgame content.
Sitting here thinking about it, Spritual probably would be the way to go for Broadsword, since those attacks are uniformly more recharge-intensive than are Katana's. Plus Shadowmeld from Soul Mastery... yep, Spiritual might just be the ticket. -
Title says it all. Looking for a DP corruptor.

Running the ITF last night, and my level 35 inv/ss tanker (!) received Hecatomb, Chance for Negative Damage.
Are there any super strength powers that would really benefit from slotting this? Or is the Inv/SS build a sub-optimal place for this proc? (Y'know, port it to a scrapper, brute, or just straight up sell it).
Since the character just dinged 36, he's still a ways off from slotting this, so feloow forumites, what are your thoughts in the meantime? -
I'm having trouble understanding exactly how this works. When does this enhancement, Steadfast Protection: Res/Def (level 25), work?
For instance, does the defense bonus disappear if I dip below level 22 regardless of the power I place it in? Do I need to place this is a +res power early on? (I'm making an inv/ tanker, so having RPD early is easy.)
My dilemma [sp? doesn't look right] is that I just earned a level 25 Steadfast Defense IO, but I've got an A-merit to drop on a level 10 recipe, if that's more useful at an earlier level. What level IO will make the most difference via higher defense?
Wow, if there isn't a guide to def stuff like this (couldn't find it, ate least), there should be! -
"We don't need vigilantes"... as a Longbow agent walks by. Nice! Bleedin' terrorists should stop invading places.

Thanks all, paragonwiki didn't give precise information on this. Still worth it.

As I'm leveling through some Going Rogue arcs, I saw that Tough (fighting power pool) for a tanker gave 15% resistance "to all damage on self."
Huh? Thought that was just a smash/lethal resist toggle. Is this just a typo? Or was this power buffed, and I missed the memo?
15% resist to all damage is almost too good to be true. -
Two years ago now, my computer crashed. It was old, weazy, and had a hell of a time running CoH, so I saw this as an opportunity to upgrade.
BIG Thanks to Father Xmas on the tech help forum; his 2008 $600 rig served as a jumping off point for me to assemble a computer for the first time, and the PC I built plays games extremely well to this day.
I'm also really appreciative of the always-welcoming communit ingame and on the forums; due to my job, I have to leave CoH for months at a time. Always look forward to logging in again, and I intend to play until y'all shut down the servers. -
Fireheart, that's a really neat build. Looks like a cool levelling build for OP's concept... which I'm copying, shamelessly. Thanks!
-
Pleasant surprise to see this at the top of the SoA forums... thanks for posting, everyone! But, of course, please don't stop posting your excellent names for your characters.

Sorry for unresearched reply - but yes, several issues ago Siphon Life was made a much better attack power. Might have been i13/i14, something like that. Damage from Midnight grasp was also 'frontloaded,' so most of it happens as soon as you click the attack.
Have fun with your Dark melee character. -
My favorite secondary is willpower; absolutely fire and forget. Good mix of +regen, defense, and smash/lethal/psi resistance. Grab a steadfast protection res/def early, and just about anything is doable. Lots of folks focus on smash/lethal defense for capping defense. Quick recovery is REALLY helpful. This is like Neo from the Matrix.
But I've really enjoyed a MA/Shield scrapper. This is gonna take some fiddling to make survivable: combat jumping, weave, maneuvers, etc., are great investments. Steadfast Protection again is helpful. Shield charge is a beast, and Against all Odds buffs your damage, especially in large mobs.
Also, you might want to ask in the Scrapper forums, too. -
Whoops, skipped right past it. 'Twas exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the tip!

Hi, I've got a neat backstory for an archery character, but I'm having trouble figuring out the costume. Right now, the powersets are probably going to arch/MM blaster, as I've never played either set much.
The name is a filler, by the way; just looking for costume ideas for a federal agent gone magic-empowered hero.
Here's the character ID:
"Having graduated at the top of his class at the FBI Academy, Osvald Alving seemed to be going places. He was assigned to Los Angeles to track down bank robbers, ranging from regular criminals to super-powered ones.
It was in this capacity that he drew the attention of the secretive organization M7, a department of MAGI. M7's purpose is to apprehend and arrest all users of hostile magic. Its agents are usually trained in such magic themselves, to prevent being overtaken in combat. Each agent is given a focusing device which functions also as a ward - Alving's is the pair of glasses he wears. The glasses once belonged to Baron Zoria.
Each agent is trained in exotic weaponry, usually swords or bows and arrows. These archaic weapons are usually far more effective against magic users than are conventional (or even unconventional) firearms."
I really appreciate any help you can offer! Thanks. -
November of 2005 SWG got hit with the infamous NGE. I had been a pretty dedicated fan of Galaxies 'til then, but that debacle really cooled me to that game, and SOE in general.
I'd been playing that game since December of 2003, so this really was a blow. What do I fill my time with? Tried EVE, Everquest II (a couple buddies were REALLY into that one), Matrix Online, and a whole slew of single-player PC games, but nothing I could lose myself in. Character limits on a server (like one or two); really complex levelling systems or really redundant powers or cookie cutter builds all turned me off. What was I to do?
In early 2007, I was shopping in Walmart for... something, and the Good vs. Evil Edition of CoH/V caught my eye. Fantasy type games I never could get really excited about, but then again, I'd never much cared for comics. (Poor vision; I can't read the small print in comic books.) I was intrigued, and got it, and made a brute. And HAD A BLAST.
Seriously. This is my favorite game. I can't think of any other that I am excited to play when I go without for a time. Since this is a sub, I need to cancel sometimes while I'm posted somewhere without access to the Internet - like this past summer, when GR was released. But resubbing was the among the first things I did once I moved back to civilization. Love City of Heroes and I'll play 'til they shut down the servers.
My altitis is so bad I STILL don't have a level 50. I'm jealous of everyone that's gotten a spouse to jump in; still working on mine. -
Fantastic, can't wait to try it out.

Taking advantage of this thread...
I'm interested in making a 'hover' rad/energy blaster, hopefully with as much ranged defense as possible. Any significant tips to make this simple/simpler? Any powers, like irradiate or electron haze, that need to be on the ground to activate? Is single-target damage the way to go with tihs? Force mastery seems like a pretty excellent Epic pool, and leadership for maneuvers... Is there a more syngergistic secondary for ranged blasting with rad/?
I'd post a build, but my Mids' isn't working ATM. Troubleshooting as we speak. Thanks for any thoughts! -
So, I've got a crazy idea.
The animations for KM made me think of Iron Man's repulsor blasts, and I just rolled up a KM/Inv to test this on a live server: I'd like to make a (mostly) ranged scrapper. I guess I'm trying to make a really durable blapper, here, and here's my first try.
Figure that Flight needs to be involved, and body mastery for the two tech-ish blast powers... but I'd like to blast (even short-range) and blap with my various shields set to maximum effect. How can I wring more defense out of this build, and balance that with (ranged) offense?
(First time posting a build - I don't have the i19 quick patch.)
