Peacebringer..the perfect "Iron Man"?

I've played this game for awhile and I've been seeking to create a character that plays like "Iron Man". Relatively damage resistant, a mix of range and melee attacks, and some interesting utility powers.

- I toyed with the Idea of using a Brute or Tanker..but nixed it because good range powers aren't available until Epics.

- Also thought of using a Crab Spider (SoA) but I didn't like the back pack..also didn't want to use the Mace or Gun.

Then I realized a Human Form PB might work for this concept. I'd get inherent flight, decent shields, various types of blasts..including an "eyebeam" and some nice melee attacks that could simulate "servo enhanced" strength.

I'm a little curious if anyones tried something like this before concept wise? And how pleased you were with the results? I know it can be hard to separate a Kheld from the in game lore........

Also...how well did the unique IO's help you deal with Mez resistance. Since toggles don't drop when mezzed now maybe this isn't a big issue anymore???

I did something like this back in i6 days when, for story reasons (they were on a long term deep cover assignment), my MM switched sides. Since MM's were not available hero-side I needed a new AT for them.

As part of the lore, the bots and light armor suit the MM used had been designed by her brainiac sister who was conducting all manner of research into quantum fluctuations, vacuum energy, and the zero point field. She even developed a prototype suit for herself (Rad/Rad defender) before jumping at the chance to bond with a Kheldian and feel the quantum fluctuations first hand.

Subsequent to that, she used her increased understanding to improve on the "Zephyr" (ZPR-1... Zero Point Radiation, Mk I)... giving it capabilities similar to a human-form PB and gave it to the former MM to use in the field.

It worked pretty well in that sense... part of what made it easier on other RP-types was that the armor was actually Kheldian-based technology. Capability-wise the lack of mez protection was noticable, but I built up my IO sets for ranged defense (which most mez effects fall under) and that helped quite a bit (as I recall I was pretty close to the soft cap for ranged defense).

Just to finish the story though... once i18 went live, the PPD FINALLY cleared the use of my MM's bots (which had been sitting in storage for over four years by this point) inside Paragon city limits and the Zephyr suit has since been gathering dust... for now. Who knows when some situation will come up where it will be needed again though.

You know now that u mention it would , i have never thought of that b4 ,too bad we cant color kheld powers

My first thought was "Why didn't I think of that?" so the concept is secure. My OCD <twitch> has an issue with the Natural origin, but that shouldn't stop you...it may not even stop me!

IO's really won't help you much when it comes to Mez resistance. Definitely get a -KB IO, though. My suggestion is to play like a Blapper, and you'll do great.

I recall Lord Xenite planning an Ironman 'homage' using a PB. Xenite, if you have a looksee here tell us how that went.

Not directly, no.

But the vast majority of lasting mez effects (a half-second stun isn't usually an issue for a Kheld) in this game fall under the ranged positional defense (with some few AoE) and are either psionic, energy, or negative energy for type defense.

Loading up on IO sets like Thunderstrikes and Makos Bites with their Ranged/Energy/Negative Energy defense buffs mean that those mez effects land and deliver their mez effects far less often and a couple of break-frees can handle the rest. As an added bonus the ranged and energy defense is also effective against Sappers and Voids/Quantums.

Is a human-form Kheld build ever going to be top-tier? Unlikely. But for a concept build of an Iron Man like character it should more than cover you.

Outside of the fact that a pure Human Form Peacebringer is going to be somewhat less powerful than a multiform, it's certainly a reasonable choice. My own Green Lantern homage I tried out as a Kheldian, but didn't like it primarily due to the inability to color the blasts. I will probably pick him back up again when Customization becomes an option. (Not if, when. One slip like that can cause the Great Pumpkin to pass you by...)

I would think that with the blue-white blasts and the knockback, it would fit an Iron Man concept as well or better. I typically suggest FF/Energy Defender for that concept, since FF Corruptors are not yet available. But a Peacebringer would do more damage than the theoretical FF Corruptor, plus have melee attacks, higher damage mitigation (albeit in the form of Res, not Def) and an HP boost and heal the FF would not have. The only advantage the FF would have in the comparison would be its status protection, which your Human Form PB would lack on a team with no Controllers/Dominators.

An alternative to playing a PB 'Iron Man' would be the 'Tin Canon' of a Radiation/Energy Blaster...
However:

I play a Human-form PB as a 'Cosmic-powered College Professor' and have often posted my experiences. For me, the key to success is to be mobile and leverage dynamic range changes to use all of your powers to your advantage. My base attack chain is Bolt-Eye-Bolt-Blast with others tossed in as applicable.

You won't dish out as much damage as a Blaster, but you'll be more resilient, able to take a few hits. You'll also have 'Dull Pain', 'Reconstruction', and 'Heal Other' clones, to help you deal with the damage. Work with a team (It Doesn't Have To Be A Big Team!) and you'll be even more effective.

(Sorry, just a a little lingering ire over the people who think that a team of 8 is the only 'good' team. I commonly run on teams of 3-4 and have a blast. So, getting invited to a team and then being forced to sit and wait, while the leader cries and begs, desperately searching for more players, just irritates the heck out of me.)

Anyway, Because you're not a Blaster, or Scrapper, you may find leveling (solo) to be slow, but it's completely doable. Deliberately seek out enemy that are weak to Energy damage and you may have a fun experience.

For your edification, this is my current build, at level 33. It's slightly experimental, I think it may need more EndRed in the powers that aren't already slotted for it.

Thanks alot..this is almost 100% the idea I have. I started my guy and figured the backstory is the suit runs on Kheldian Influenced Quantam Tech..also thanks for the tip regarding Ranged Defense...I never thought of that as a defense against mez.

Thanks for posting the build and the advice! It's nice to know that I'm not 100% crazy in my concept. Well maybe a little nuts...but not completely nuts. :0)

Fireheart, that's a really neat build. Looks like a cool levelling build for OP's concept... which I'm copying, shamelessly. Thanks!

My level 50 Human only PB is this exact concept without the ironman look. I am IOed out, have my incartnTe slot started.

Solo, I almost have as much fun as when I play my main. She is sitting at 65% on most resistances and 75% on a couple. My status res is comparable with my ice tank and my KB prot is much better.
