An no, lasers do not simulate a firearm. Response to recoil, taking gravity and wind into account, even the nature of the mechanical trigger and issues with proper maintenance and dealing with a misfire, are all important parts of the sport. Bicycles are dangerous too, maybe we should put them all on stationary bikes. That's a fair simulation, right?

    Britain. Ugg.
I'd just like to point out that it wasn't us Brits that decided on this, it was the guys incharge of the Olympics that made the choice.

Infact the guns normally used for the type of target shooting using in the Olympics (like ski-shooting etc.) are bolt action rifles or sometimes even air rifles, both of which are perfectly legal to own in the UK (Bolt action rifles require a gun liscence of course).

So don't blame Brits for this!
  2. It does seem like Valve is willing to take chances with what it puts on Steam.

They are willing to put smaller indie titles upfront and center, stuff that would never see the light of day (woo go Eversion!). I didn't purchase the games in said sale but then I own a signed copy of Uplink (can't remember what you Americans called it) and had already purchased Defcon.
  3. Erm...hasn't the reverse happened?

Didn't the ITF get BUFFED thanks to people on test saying that the end boss was laughably easy (He didn't have his nictus support with him in the original test version IIRC), they added in the nictus Kheldian forms boss ambush in the first map after it went live as well IIRC. They also recently made it so you could nolonger single pull the 4 Patrons in the STF, thus increasing the difficulty in general.

Seriously though Geko, if you want that kind of play, head over to WoW, they have the raid style bosses you want and the uber-elite 'this has to be uber-tough otherwise its not worth it' attitude to go with it.

I'm sorry but the Destroyer bosses are just that tad overpowered...there is a difference between 'challenge' where there is a struggle to survive and "oh my minions get oneshotted by his AoE footstomp meaning I lose bodyguard mode and he proceeds to wtfpwn my tiny health before I can even resummon minions".

Seriously though why the hell haven't they put in the difficulty selectors, that way the uber-elite "I'm so hardcore!" people like yourself can crank up the difficulty and the rest of us can either tone it done when say soloing a controller or crank it up when on a Brute/Tank/Scrapper.
  4. Heh MM customisation is about as far down the list as them working on Bases, in otherwords, perhaps in about 3 years time...if that...even with Going Rogue out the way it looks very unlikely we will ever get MM customisation, even just your suggestion (which is what everyone thought MMs would recieve when Power Customisation came in initially).
  5. I will say that some of mobs could do with being toned down a tad.

The Destroyer bosses one-shot any of the first tier MM minions with footstomp...yeah that needs to be toned down a tad. Over all the Destroyer bosses are a massive pain, they're incredibly hard to mez, have high damage both single target and AoE. Compared to other bosses of the same level range they completely outclass them.

And yes agreed, there needs to be difficulty slider NPCs in Praetoria. What may be fine and soloable for a brute is not going to be so good for say a Controller.

Well, they took part in Miss Francine school for us to giggle at how a person without hands has such good handwriting. Then they started working at pawn shops, because a Freakshow with a day job is funny. Then they started working for our random individuals who didn't have a group affiliated with them, seemingly for the sole purpose of spouting one-liners. Oh, and they were welding rockets to their backs and singing about bombs.
Well there is a BLINDLY obvious reason why it is the Freakshow that work for random individuals, out of all the level 30+ enemy groups, they are the only ones without any proper agenda beyond 'causing as much chaos, violence and murder as we can'.

Crey are all about the corporation, the Carnies work purely for DeVore, Malta is...well Malta and by extension the Knives of Artemis are incredibly limited. That is not getting into the Circle of Thorns, Arachnos, Longbow etc. who all have their own agenda.

Freakshow are powerful enough that they make good thugs and easy enough to entertain (just tell them that there will be violence and they'll likely agree to work for you) that pretty much anybody...even villains like Flambeux...can get them to work with them.

Anyway...yes you really are a genuinely grumpy guss Sam, sorry but it really is true, perhaps you should lighten up just a little bit?

Besides the Freakshow are a threat in the 20-30 range...they're used for laughs because by the time you're level 40-50, they are way out of their league, almost any AT can just brush them aside with ease even in large numbers. They're punching above their weight, as it were.

Oddly enough both myself and the person I was playing it with quipped that we'd taken over Blue Steels job as Deus Ex Machina, however we both reasoned that in order to fully do so we would have had to have done nothing BUT these kind of missions instead of being the reactive heroes we really are.

Edit: Of course, reading back, I'm not quite sure what that means in regards to what I said before.
Crusader stuff gets INCREDIBLY evil and Calvin Scott himself is revealed to be an uncaring, unsympathetic man who only cares about getting his wife back when you work undercover and phone him during those moments.

Basically imagine City of Heroes was Golden Age/Silver Age stuff, City of Villains got introduced and we moved into the Bronze age, now Going Rogue has been introduced and we've moved into the most grim and gritty dark age.

Without Liefield thankfully...so no Young Bloods syndrome for us!
  12. Ok so NPCs have changed sides, reformed, fallen or just had a change of attitude, going to see if I can list them all and whether you guys can help correct mistakes or make new additions...or discuss these changes.

Miss Thystle: Fully ascended from villain to hero (interestingly your path from villain to hero also follows hers via the tip missions).

Frostfire: Fully ascended from villain to hero.

Flambeux: Fully descended from hero to attention craving villain.

Doc Quantum: Fully descended from hero to mad scientist villain.

Polar Shift: fully descended into crazy, crazy villain (she believes everyone but her is a Nemesis automaton...and thus the world needs to die).

    Blast Furnace: Hero to vigilante.

    Overdrive: Remained hero.

    Mangle: Remaind villain.

I think thats all of them so far.

Oh and a rogue tip mission does reveal that Nemesis is making Automatons of the various alignment shifted NPCs and thus gives them their excuse as to why Miss Thystle still turns up to rob banks when she is decidedly heroic according to the tip missions.
  13. Doing the villain tips actually makes me feel incredibly guilty.

There is one where a group of Carnies are now trapped in Arachnoid tunnels, now Carnies are evil sure, that makes the choice easier.

No when you find the group of Carnies in the tunnels, the Ring Mistress is coughing up blood and near collapse and tells everyone else to run as soon as I get in range. Arachnoids my be monstrous...but I was definitely the monster there.

The villain morality mission is INCREDIBLY evil, like to a whole new level of evil, even beyond the Phipps stuff.

Basically you go in, threaten a guy (possible love interest of Overdrives from the dialogue) to have Overdrive turn up. You beat her down and she calls in Blast Furnace, you you beat down. You then proceed to laugh in Overdrives face as she tries for a second time to have at you. Once defeated you brutally mock Blast Furnace about how he can't save Overdrive and how truly pathetic he is for caring about innocent lives...before carting off Overdrive to torture until she finally breaks and agrees to become your lackey.

At every dialogue point in that mission you don't come across as some Bond villain, making threats, you're genuinely evil...seriously it needs to be played in order to be fully understood, I can't do it justice.

On the other end of the scale was the mission involving Westin Phipps for heroes. That actually made me feel good about myself because not only did I get to rescue Ms. Francine (whose ending in the Westin Phipps arcs is noted that she'll be tortured to death), Amanda Vimes and one other. It was because I'd managed to stave off my pure hatred of Phipps and the opportunity to smack him around (seriously, I was so incredibly tempted, it took me a while to decide) and actually made the heroic choice.
  14. Adore fighting them on my Night widow but then my Night Widow is a high defense and very high melee damage which means mobs of them just melt away.
  15. IIRC..

The old arcs are basically refered to as 'first contact misunderstand' by one of the devs.

It is a REALLY silly retcon but it works something along the lines of...

We assumed that Praetoria was the whole moustache twirling evil dimension, we thought the guy in the fancy armour was the real Tyrant when it was really an Olympian Guard and the old designs were 'sketchy reports' of what the guys actually looked like, basically if someone said 'evil Freedom Phalanx' that is what the people are Portal Corp pegged them to look like.

Like I said...its a really paper thing excuse as to why the old arcs are the way they are.

Also does Maria Jenkins actually reference the original A Hero's Hero arc in her new one, I heard she did but can't be sure.
  16. Heck I'd personally like more patron options generally.

Heroes: The Surviving Seven (why seven when villains only have four? Will explain in a moment), the Freedom Phalanx minus Statesman.
Open to both: Vanguard, Oroborous, Midnighters.
New Villain Patrons!: Dr Aeon, Televsion (you can't have one without the other now they're at war with each other) and Arbiter Daos (for a 'natural' more brawly themed patron choice).
  17. Rogues/Vigilantes can initiate Taskforces/Strikesforces on the opposite side.

Started both parts on the Positron Taskforce on my Rogue Arachnos Widow.
  18. I love the fact the badge for the tailor in Imperial city is called...

    ...Going Rouge.

Nazi occupied France, World War 2. The Loyalists are the occupation forces and the collaborators. The resistance are, well, the French Resistance!
As with that situation..not every German Soldier was a die hard SS Officer...and so not every Loyalist is an evil sonofagun.

Infact quite a few of the Resistance Crusader arcs are downright evil...most of the Loyalist Power arcs are just selfish.

Perhaps what I should have said instead was something like "I think this game would be more fun if the answer for survivability wasn't almost ALWAYS to add more defense. I think more variety of solutions would be nice, such as how Regeneration survivability benefits some from defense, but more from huge recharge. I would like to see something like Dark Armor be just as solid if you build it for resistance and healing, so that the sets have more variety in the end game. I think variety is good." It just so happens that I think this sort of variety is what the devs intended, so I used that as a poor sort of shorthand. It's more clear if I spell things out, though, and doesn't rely on a point that I think is irrelevant - what the devs intended.
What annoyed me was that while there is a LOT of +Psi Resistance kicking around (my first Invuln/SS Tanker build was designed purely to plug the Psi Resistance gap and got 40% Psi resistance...which is 10% MORE than her regular resistance levels) there is sweet bugger all way to build up the other resistances.

For Smashing/Lethal you can get tough...but there's nothing else after that and the +Resistance in the IO sets for anything other than Psi is laughable.

The devs bought it on themselves when they added a HUGE amount of +Def and +Rech to the sets and...well...not much else...

Now if I could build my Invuln/SS for 90% Smashing/Lethal resistance (which she does with just tough..so no change needed there) and say 70% Resistance to all but Psi then I would have gone that route.

As it is the only way for Invuln to increase their survivability is to go the typed defense softcap route (which I did on my second build).

So yes...it is namely the Devs fault for not really offering any other options other than +def and +Rech...
  21. Zombies...

One Zombie going all Stubbs on 'the man' that is Emperor Cole and bringing his zombified friends with him on an Undead march of FREEDOM!

Besides lets be honest, could you imagine the [censord]Storm that would come about if the devs said...

"Oh yeah any of the villain ATs can go to Paragon from Praetoria or side switch from the Isles to Paragon...apart from Masterminds...they're naturally evil..."

So your answer is...that its a game and Stubbs will eat your face in the name of Freedom.

Him and Cyber-Amazon (his snarky clockwork sidekick) are a crime fighting duo followed around by the Cambots for a Praetorian play on a Cops style TV series called Blue and Gold.

    So Praetorians!

So whats people doing with regards RPing Praetorians.

Myself and Cactus Brawler are doing a 'Cops' style show (very heavily editted of course) doing the 'Powers' arcs, though obviously it'll be more 'general' in RP sense than 'we have done this mission' style.

So what else be people upto?
  25. Everything went fine for me.

Villain Stance 2 + Hover = Street Fighter Live Action movie M. Bison.
