My stone brute usually takes the role of a tank because that's how I built him (my SG told me they needed one for LRSF).
I have played with Shift Redux, and I'm pretty sure it was with the stone brute of repeated faceplant +2 (Sorry, it just sounded too much like D&D weapon name). I don't remember playing with Tombstone Terror, but if you play him any bit as good as you play Shift, I hope I get the chance someday.

And yes, I forgot about the -def part. That explains why I usually get hit several times in a row... I do know about the crits all too well. How can you forget a crit that does just over 300 damage when you've only got 850 HP!

See, this is why I start these threads. I love hearing stories like this! Things weren't perfect, people were faceplanting, but damned if it wasn't fun!

Personally, I get the most fun from teams that are competent but imperfect. I've been running a lot of ITF's lately, and I've been starting them with "Until I see reason to say otherwise, you are free to do as you see fit. Just try to keep up." I go one way, and if people follow me, cool. If not, well, they just don't get to see my laser and pyrotechnics show.

It's awesome when I see three or four mini-teams fan out and kill stuff. To that end, I like to get mostly villains if I can because they tend to be more self-sufficient, but I've never turned someone down because "We don't need another tank" or "We need a /kin". That's bull.

Maybe you can make distinctions like that for a MoSTF or a MoLRSF attempt. But ITF? Even the new MoITF shouldn't be too difficult with whatever team you scrounge together.
  7. Coloring the powers they use?

I'll admit, I have no idea which would be easier to code, but let's assume that we couldn't customize the way our henchmen look. Would you be happy with the ability to at least customize the powers they use?

Modify the zombie vomit, dark blast from grave knights, and the lich's powers to be whatever colors you want?

Bots that fire blue or green or a rainbow array of colors? Green fire burn patches?

I guess Ninjas and Thugs would really only get the Oni's and arsonist's fire to be customizable.

Not sure how it would affect mercs.

EDIT: Wow, can't believe I missed the typo in the title. And I meant to say "customize" not "color" there...

  11. In general, I'm a support person. I played right after release with controllers and defenders mostly. I loved being that guy that got on the team and suddenly everyone else felt more powerful.

My favorite blueside was a kinetics/energy defender. I had six slotted perma hasten and a full attack chain of buffs. Then I got nova and went to town.

My second favorite blueside was an illusion/radiation controller. Again, six slotted hasten makes for good times, with perma PA and three phantasms running around. Debuff the enemies and even a team full of blasters (before IO's mind you) could kill anything without worry.

Then CoV was released and I rejoiced. This was the single best thing that could have happened for my playstyle. Now it was possible to be the defender, supporting a huge team of now invincible players, except with a mighty twist: The team had to listen to me!

For those of you who can't see where this is going, I took to masterminds very quickly. Here I could be the support role for a team all the time. And if I got the bonus pets of real teammates, then cool, but it wasn't necessary anymore.

I did bots/FF first, followed by thugs/poison. The first was unkillable, the second was a steamroller that took a little more in the line of tactics.

After that, I took a break from the game and came back shortly before i15 went live.

"Bodyguard mode? Oh this is SWEET! Wait, what are these shiny IO things?"

Bots/traps is now my favorite ever. Bots are softcapped. I'm softcapped, and with effective 75% resist to top it off. Teamport hopping from spawn to spawn, achilles heel in acid mortar, no stamina needed... I am unstoppable.

I definitely don't deny the awesomeness of a fulcrum shifted blizzard, I just haven't had the pleasure of running with many. It's rare, but I personally love it when someone FS's my bots right before the burn patches go down.

The name doesn't ring a bell, but it's possible I've just forgotten it. I play on Virtue, by the way.

That's good news, but I guess I forgot to ask how effective it is.

Does taunt get resisted at all? How much magnitude to I need to actually force someone to target me? Will I need to stack it? Is it possible to have someone perma taunted?

I've heard that taunt has a -range component to it... is that only in PvE, or only the tanker taunt?
  14. I'm just getting into PvP a bit in the arena and I'd like to try RV sometime too, but before I solidify my build with my last respec, I need to know how taunt works against players.

Specifically, I'm an MM and I don't want my opponents attacking my henchmen. Does challenge force my opponent to attack me?

A few ITFs ago, the Empath made the mistake of PBU+Fortituding and Adrenaline Boosting my Corr. He stuck with the team, while I hovered off and downed three of the cysts on my own <3
I've been running ITF's like mad recently, it's the only way to get a BoTZ: Knockback at level 10.

Pretty sure I did run with an ice/kin corruptor because I thought it was an odd mix. Not ineffective, mind you, just odd. Can I get a character name to help remind me though?

(AFAIK) I'll give two conditional statements:
a/ IF defender traps has the correct values then MM traps is overperforming
b/ IF MM traps has the correct values then Corr and Def traps need to be increased a bit more.

Which scenario one would prefer is up to the person. I'm guessing A/ is what would eventually be changed as it is easiest. I'm also guessing nothing will be changed.
MM traps may be over performing, but keep in mind the balance came from the increased endurance costs.

Hey, if you can run fast, you can swim equally fast!

Also, I'd assume some variants of superjump are really just "ninja weightlessness" which would work perfectly well in water.

If you are a superjump character that does so through strength alone, take the Chuck Norris approach. When he jumps, he doesn't jump up, he pushes the world down.

"It's easier to try, than to prove it can't be done."

Kudos if you know the band.

I agree, and technically, you can't ever irrefutably prove something is impossible. Even Einstein didn't prove that travel faster than the speed of light is impossible. There could be some unknowns or variables that we just don't know. This is why I believe that nothing truly is impossible. It's just a matter of time before someone figures it out.

Although, you have to accept that as soon as any one all blaster MSTF works, sufficient proof has been provided that it's not impossible.

Edit to add: There's something else I'd like to say. To irrefutably prove that any team could successfully complete a MSTF would be insurmountably time consuming. You would have to complete it with every permutation of every possible AT and every possible powerset to truly prove that statement. 8 Fire/rad controllers. 7 Fire/rad controllers, 1 fire/kin controller. 7 Fire/rad controllers, one illusion/kin controller... etc.

What might be an acceptable compromise is to devise a few "worst case" teams and see if you can get those to complete it.

Might I direct you to the suggestions section of our forums? You can start a flame war there.

EDIT to add: You're not the first to bring this up. It's been suggested time and time again. Most of the reason no one likes it is simple: What the hell are you swinging from? Satellites?!?!
  20. First, I want to thank everyone for their stories. You have satiated my need for entertainment.

I've got another story to add today. (read: /tootmyownhorn)

Have you ever felt like you were pulling along dead weight?

I was running the ITF with my level 50 (isn't it funny how so many of these start this way?) bots/traps MM. This time, I was with an absolutely awful team. The leader was a /stone brute who died fairly often. See, when someone says fairly often about a blaster, I hear "every other fight," which is bad. By fairly often for a /stone brute, I mean two or three times per mission.

Tangent: Aren't granites supposed to be unstoppable? I can understand faceplanting to an 8 man spawn of psychic clockwork, but to mostly lethal damage of Cimerorans? What is this guy doing? There were two control sets running too! A mind dominator and a fire controller. How could he die in granite? HOW?! Anyway, I digress. Back to the story:

I tried to stick with the team this time for the first mission, but things were progressing egregiously slow for having two brutes that presumably want to keep fury. We jump up to the top bypassing the "ambushes" that I've never seen because I've always jumped to the top. Anyway, half the team runs right past the center flaming altar, and before you know it, we're in a sea of nictus. I see lots of little skulls show up in my team window, but somehow someone managed to lead Solaris back to the altar.

In the shadow cyst caves, we get through to the first shadow cyst and destroy it, practically wiping the team somehow. At this point I decide to take the path of least teammates. Seven go one way, I go the other.

I don't know what those baffoons were doing, but I counted at least four times that the stone brute died. I'm fighting down my chosen corridor with absolutely no help, taking out nictus, cyst, ambush, nictus, cyst, ambush... I destroyed four shadow cysts entirely on my own before I came to a fifth at the end of the tunnel. I start tearing up the nictus and am already targeting the cyst by the time my team shows up to wrap up the mission.

I'm thinking to myself... did I seriously just do this? Did I destroy 4 shadow cysts and ambushes in the time it took seven other people to do the same thing?

That's only because corruptors aren't as good at buffing/debuffing. It doesn't have anything to do with the primary/secondary aspect. Look at the Trip Mine example: Corruptors do more damage with Trip Mine than Defenders do. That's because corruptors have a higher damage modifier. Cold domination buffs will be better for a defender because that's his job. He's supposed to buff, so the same power is going to work differently for a defender than a corrruptor. The modifiers are different. The powers are the same.

Seriously, get your corruptor out and pull out the info on his powers. There's a dropdown to see how the power would be if it were used by a ... oh let's say defender. The values will change because of the AT modifier. The same thing works for scrapper/tanker/brute shared sets. Change the AT, and the values change. The power is the same, but the modifiers have affected them.
