How does presence pool:challenge work in PvP?

I'm just getting into PvP a bit in the arena and I'd like to try RV sometime too, but before I solidify my build with my last respec, I need to know how taunt works against players.

Specifically, I'm an MM and I don't want my opponents attacking my henchmen. Does challenge force my opponent to attack me?

what it does if it hits(has a to-hit check) is make the person automatically untarget whoever they have target and then yes target you.

That's good news, but I guess I forgot to ask how effective it is.

Does taunt get resisted at all? How much magnitude to I need to actually force someone to target me? Will I need to stack it? Is it possible to have someone perma taunted?

I've heard that taunt has a -range component to it... is that only in PvE, or only the tanker taunt?

There's no taunt protection, as it were. If you get taunted, the only options for breaking it are to wait for it to wear off, or to break line of sight. Some powers (such as Assault) provide resistance to taunt (i.e. make it last less time) and as of the I13 changes, Break Frees provide taunt/placate resist. In short, one application of a taunt will force someone to target you - or more accurately, taunt will make you the only valid enemy target for its duration. Taunt/Confront does do -range in PvE and PvP but that only applies to Tanker/Brute/Scrapper versions, not the pool versions or the Widow version.

Yes it gets resisted but more so by scrappers and tanks that have taunt resistance, but squishys it works ok i get taunted sometimes on my blaster and it last idk like 5 seconds.

Not sure if you can keep someone perma taunted but even if you could it's hard to keep them that close to you to do it.

Taunt from tanks, scrappers and brutes have minus75% range but taunt from the pool powers has no minus range anywhere

I've got a weird question since we're on the subject. What would happen if a Stalker used Taunt and then immediately followed it up with Placate?

Yea MMs can easily get perma taunt. It's the cheapest thing i've ever seen because it's about impossible to kill an MM by attacking them head on, unless ur dark and use soul drain or use a bunch of AoEs, but in PvP, single targets are better. I hate fighting MMs because my PvE toons would dominate them and lose to everything else and my pvp toons would be fine against everything else but lose or tie with the MM.

I know of 3 thug/pains MMs with taunt, because i can't kill the pets or even touch them, i just sit there until death since the MM can heal faster then i can damage. Or if i use Geas and Hasten together and use a DPS chain, they started kiting around.

Cheapest thing i've ever seen.

Or you can just dodge them..since they're..umm...masterminds.

Have Challenge on my Merc/Pain... Use it if I teamed with a Dom or Crrpt to get the heat off of them and on to me so I don't have to go out of BG to attack.

Alot of times it is a Blaster/Troller dive bombing to get the Dom Or Crrpt.... when he starts unloading on him, challenge will redirect his last shot to me ....Mercs return fire in BG Blaster dies or runs/hibernoob/phase. This is were challenge is good for a MM IMO. Other then that I don't use it much.

Lasts only under 5 sec unslotted (can only 2 slot for acc. with my build)....so melee sets with higher HP's can outlive that and still tool on your teammate. It is also harder to hit them with it.

The enemy would be taunted, then after the placate he'd lose target.

Well personally i build my toons to not be cowards. A good hero could kill a villain even with 3-4 attacking him. I've been held, knocked back, ASed twice and still killed the kiting squishy.

A good blaster you mean >_<, if anything else can manage to pull off a kill in that time then they must be versing some of the worst villains ive seen

Another odd question to go with this, what if you taunted from hide? Would it break Hide?

Using taunt and then placating summons the almighty class breaking bug known as the "Placate Bug" where placate really doesn't do anything whatsoever.

In short, get the taunt on a stalker, then get wrecked.

Yep, that's why you consistently scramble to get away from my MM.

Cowards? So you really feel brave? Sitting in your room...hitting W, A, S, D...clicking a mouse so your Superhero or Villain Avatar can hopefully get a lucky roll on a Random Number Generator, that supposed to simulate a 100 sided dice, and potentially defeat some other person's avatar. Just so they can click the mouse, respawn and do it all over again. WHATTA TOUGHIE!!! SOOO BRAVE!!!!

Really? Wow...that's sad and pathetic. In online gaming there are no cowards and there are no tough guys. There are winners and losers. It doesn't matter how you play the game.

Really? It doesn't matter how you play the game? Cause I play to win. /em smirk

How the hell do you build a toon not to be a coward anyway? Do you take both taunts in presence pool and roll a tank with a shield that has inherent taunt?

Or do you log into freedom RV and challenge the fiteclub po-po to a duel under Atlas?

If I taunt, then phase out, does the opponent stay taunted to me?

They'll be taunted for however long the duration is slotted up for, then once it wore off you'd have to unphase to retaunt them. Unless they phased to chase you.

A couple little known facts that you may have missed Mel.

1. Coh pvp is the minor leagues of the UFC. They send their most honorable fighters here to hone their skills.

2. This **** is real.

Once you accept these facts his post makes perfect sense.

Duel me.
I will work on my sig pic more when I have time.
