I'm not taking commissions for another few days, but my website is www.douglasshuler.com .
I have a few quick samples in my sig below. -
I like the piece. The leg looks wierd, but that's already been explained as a gravitational anomaly and therefore understandable.
Some pretty serious inking there.
-
Depends on what you're looking for. Some of the artists do work for free, while others charge for their time. Everyone has their own particular set of guideline and I don't think anyone is offended when they're asked to work on something.
Usually, once you find an artist you like, sending them a PM is the first step. -
I agree with the majority of recommendations above.
Mostly, just draw whatever and whenever the feelign hits you. I find myself carrying sketchpads everywhere, and whenever I have 10 spare minutes, I'll draw something out. Most of the doodles are loose, unfinished impressions. Some evolve into polished pieces. Some remain impressions for years until I take that idea further. There's no need to crate a materpiece with every page... just log ideas and thoughts.
Your main focus is to strengthen your hand, improve your eye, and open up the neural pathways between your creative center and your pencil. -

ya i noticed the little elf lookin ear was a little high also LOL As far as the look, I grew up reading Mark Sylvestri and Jim Lee era x-men, so I suppose that is the look I prefer and go for. The obviously digital, almost airbrushed look just isn't comic book art to me. But then again I haven't actually read a comic book in about 10 years so I have no idea what the majority look like today. I personally always loved the painted graphic novels. Really neat stuff.

It's too bad you're not a fan of the newer, digital look of comics. The digital age has brought a whole new set of techniques to comics that can be quite spectacular when used properly. I agree that some attemps have failed miserably, but your drawing is quite good and would look impressive with strong digital colors.
I won't color it without your permission, but I'd like to try my hand at it to see what could happen. -
My initial impression is that it's very good, but it's too small to see clearly. Can we bribe you to post a larger version?

How about if we start a new thrread called something like The Art Page, and it could be just for art posts. No comments just art. Each artist could post all there work past present and future . I would love to everyone elses artwork. Just an idea.
[/ QUOTE ]
If you can get the forum-gods to sticky that, it seems a good idea. Good luck, though. -

How about a Jim Lee pencilled Superman page?
[/ QUOTE ]
I'll be staring at that piece all day... absorbing it's artistic secrets. -
[ QUOTE ]
Hey Rowr, I love when people respect the artists' postition. I am going to do a quick pencil sketch just for you to ink and post at will
[/ QUOTE ]
Know what would be cool? If we put up a number of pencils and inks for people to practice their inking and colors, then others could practice and get feedback. Have an ongoing thread (maybe even a stickied thread).
Just an idea. -

Hey Mist, I have a question for you;
Do you have a macro for all those little faces you put in your posts, or do you hand type them each time? I've never seen anyone do all that before.
Originally, I thought you were importing your text from some other editor and it was leaving a lot of bad characters, but then I started to see faces. I still can't make some of them out. I'm getting better at it though. -

I love looking at tight pencil work and yours is some of the best. I stare at your pencils and deconstruct the linework, absorbing ideas and inspirations.
Someday, you and I will have to do a collaboration. I'm not sure when, or how... but someday... -

Does anyone want a Bruce Timm/DC Animated Universe style version of their character?
[/ QUOTE ]
A very generous offer. I'd take you up on it, but I've already done versions for my SG so I'll step aside. Great job on TA though. =) -
Bummer. I missed the boat.
Well, maybe down the road, we could do an art trade. -
[ QUOTE ]
But boy, oh boy - are we impressed with those of you who DO draw.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thanks, Cuppa. It's good to know you guys pop into our little "virtual studio" -
It's my opinion that, barring physical limitations, anyone can be taught how to draw... and draw well. I've taught drawing one-on-one in the past with some very pleasing results. It wouldn't come overnight, to be sure, but drawing is often a matter of knowing the 'language' of line and how to apply it.
-
My drawing ability comes from Mitochlorians in my cells...
But honestly, I don't mind when people say something like that, because I don't actually believe that they 'hate' me. If they actually hated people with drawing ability, they wouldn't come to this part of the boards. So I just take it as a figure of speech.
But yeah... read what PMD said about work. HARD work. I've been able to draw since I was about 4 years old, and now that I'm almost 10 times that, I look back and realize I NEVER took a break from it. I NEVER stopped drawing. I've seen people that were able to draw quite skillfully give it up for a time and their 'art muscle' gets weak... some even given it up entirely. I don't think a week of my life has passed in which I haven't produced some sort of image (on a napkin, a canvas, a wall, a notebook, or the computer).
All I can say is... STICK WITH IT, no matter what level you're at currently. Drawing ability is something that's a reflection of a lifetime of study, not an overnight gift by a fairy. -
D'OH! I missed the casting-call for this.
It's great stuff. I always set aside some time for the Miss Abyss videos=) -
Our VG has several healers, and I've personally played a heal-oriented Corrupter every night for the last 3 weeks (lvl 37 now). Our VH healing badge is getting near the end, but it's moving INSANELY slow and it's hard to see the difference after a night of tough work. Whatever achievement level it's set at (10,000,000 points?), it feels a bit much.
-
We finally got the badge last night.
The answer is (as Recluse mentioned), you need to complete 200 COT missions. If your blue bar is at the very end, do a couple more missions and you should be able to push it over the edge.
Street-sweeping won't do it. -

"Poz, are you really so blind as to think the recovery chance matters? If there is even the POSSIBILITY of all the prestige needed to put down the stuff needed for a base raid will disappear..."
[/ QUOTE ]
You know that when items get destroyed, you get all that prestige back, right? Nothing is lost other than the Salvage.
But, like so many others, I feel rent has GOT to go. It's the worst part of the entire COH/V system. -
[ QUOTE ]
For those players who have reached the Salvage Limit with one or more pieces:
Is your SG capable of making a Worktable so you can consume some of that Salvage into the raw material? (Raw material has a limit of 99 currently).
[/ QUOTE ]
Not even close. We have a very active SG and have been working up Prestige specifically to get *any* of the tables operational, but buying 3 rooms (Energy, Control, and Workshop), plus 3 functional components (Generator, Mainframe, Table) costs about 875,000. After 5 nights of playing hard and the 300,000 from the bonus, we still don't have a Worktable... and many are reporting inventories that are bulging.
Salvage rate is fine, IMO. It's the high prices of even the most basic items that seems high, especially with only one option. I'd like to see several low-end Generators and possibly a few low-end Mainframes to choose from, each with their own qualities. -

"...Where did you learn to do math? 5% of 20,000,000 is 1,000,000..."
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, that's true. But rent never gets anywhere near 5%.
According to Positron (posted on the Beta boards so I can no longer retrieve it), bases have the following rent costs;
0 - 1,000,000 = no rent
1,000,001 - 14,000,000 = 1%
16,000,001 - 69,000,000 = 2%
69,000,000 on up = 3%
Rent maxes at 3.8%
