(BTW, I honestly think it is the best MMO that exists, but I don't think people really know how fun it is. Maybe we can take it on ourselves to make little youtube videos or something showcasing how awesomely simple and amazingly customizable CoH is? Food for thought.)
Like these? (I am not responsible for how much time anyone loses watching all of these - the CoH videographers are pretty prolific.)

  2. It's (sort of) been said before, but... more videos*. Here's why...

I don't know if you were following the PAX EAST thread when that was going on, where folks were posting Tweets about what was happening at the panel for those who couldn't attend. When the dev team showed the video for Kinetics Melee, that sucker was on YouTube in NO TIME FLAT (thanks to enterprising players with cell phones), and the players went nuts when they saw it. Same for the Demon Summoning video.

Your Facebook shows a six-second teaser for GOING ROGUE. In just a couple of hours, there were over 50 comments of players clamouring for more. (And come on, guys - six seconds? WTH? Teaser length could be 30 seconds without giving too much away, while still giving enough flavour and hints to have players going "GIMMEGIMMEGIMME!")

But I'd like to clarify this on a couple of counts:

    1) Don't just make it showing off powers where they're obviously not HITTING anyone. The awesomeness of Dual Pistols was somewhat overshadowed by laughter that a player was firing at POINT BLANK RANGE at opponents and MISSING. Let's see them in action, but REAL action.

    2) More of the "here's how we make things" vids - it's a useful insight for the playerbase to see what goes into bringing the neat things from concept to completiong.

    3) More vids in general - way back when, there were at least a couple of videos per issue (ESPECIALLY when COV came out). They don't take that long, especially if it's just the "run in and film stuff" variant.

    4) Film the M&Gs, and get them up on YT ASAP. There is absolutely NO excuse for it taking FOUR MONTHS to get a 1-minute video up about HeroCon 2009. NONE. Get SOMEONE with a videocamera to stand in the back, film the M&G and the panel, upload it to someplace where Marketing can watch it and security-vet it, then get that thing on YouTube as quickly as possible. That would go a LONG way for showing players that can't make it that you still want them to feel 'involved'.

*This isn't a "hire me" post. You've got someone already - David's a good guy AND a good videographer. He has lots of great ideas (he and I spent HOURS talking at HeroCon 2008 and 2009 about videos and ideas and ads and whatnot). UTILIZE HIM. PLEASE. Expand his team if you have to, but you're already paying for server space and bandwidth, and YouTube is free. Turn him loose on making vids and make them shareable.

Yes, it's pronounced Sim-ur-ROAR-uh. (I asked the devs back when I was filming the I-12 trailer because there was supposed to be more voiceover in my video, but cut it due to time constraints - but I needed to know how it was pronounced!)

I miss organizing Lobster Races in Atlas Park. The sheer volume of WTF responses from seeing a fleet of speedboosted Lobster-form Kheldians zooming around Atlas (in the seated position) along a preset course was just wonderful fun.

  5. You cannot save your alternate. I have tried numerous times, in multiple ways.

Trying to go up the elevators by skating around Protean - failed.
Siphon-speed off Protean to haul it to the double - failed. (I landed in a crouch right next to her just as the portal exploded - for a split second, it looked as though I had thrown myself over the body of my double to protect her.)
    Assemble the team - failed.
Dying and coming back in hoping to 'beat' the timer - failed.

But it was such a heroic way to go...

And now there's music during the cutscene! (During beta there wasn't.) Just that much more dramatic...

Alas, poor double - we hardly knew you...

    Merc/?

I actually paired Mercs with Trick Arrow (go ahead and laugh). Took her (mostly through soloing) all the way to 50 without a problem because of the MASSIVE debuffing I threw into my TA powers. (I also splurged and added damage procs to many of them, great for breaking concentration on stuff I nailed to the floor.)

If so I'd like to request some things...

a Dosier or Encyclopedia. What i mean is something like a little electronic book type thing (could be sold as a program, a book, or a electronic device) that has information on every thing so far in CoH... mind you not a copy of the bible, but something like...
a turn around image of every character, break down of their powers, history, physical stats, and alliances, and other status.

It would be rather cool to have just for a read or to have sitting next to a PC to quick find. I'm sure people would be willing to buy it for quite a bit of money and more or less it just requires putting it together as all the pieces and information is already out there.
The first thing I thought of when I saw this was remembering something I used to see in comics when I was younger... ages ago, I used to have the "Who's Who" (DC Comics) and "The Official Handbook to the Marvel Universe". They were done as alphabetical groups, so I remember one edition that had Scarlet Witch, one had Lana Lang, one had Angel (and ArcAngel), one had Cloak and Dagger, and so on. But they had at least 20-30 heroes/villains in each.

Rather than do something similar with just screenshots from the game, a novel way that Marketing might take advantage of the enthusiasm of the playerbase is to hold a massive contest - say, submit 'comic style' art (and obviously T for Teen style) for up to 5 NPC characters. A group of Paragon Studio judges (including David Nakayama and Ken Morse, for example, the art guys) then selects the best ones to represent the NPCs in the "City of Heroes Who's Who."

They can even do a "Create a Character's Look" contest - what DOES Galaxy Girl look like? Or Dauntless? How about the Dream Doctor? Or any of the other heroes/villains we hear about but never see? Talk about a chance to have your ideas made canon!

    Then voila, we've got a comic-style "Who's Who" of the CoH-verse.

    This.

So while I realize that you can't always tell us everything, I do hope that you can at least provide us with enough info (especially related to the 8000+ questions you've received) to know that you're not just tossing the occasional non sequitor teaser at us, but addressing what the PLAYERS want to know.

  13. Welcome to CoH! You'll find a lot of info here on the forums, on the Paragon Wiki, or even just by asking people in-game. By and large, we don't bite.

I could cry when I think of what CoH could accomplish with even a TENTH of Blizzard's advertising budget. *sighs forlornly*

  20. As I said on YouTube, spiffy work, man. Let me know when you have the CoV version done.

(And for that matter, if you're REALLY up for a challenge, here's one for you, because this could be brilliant... give this piece a listen. Think you can do a combination of the hero and villain themes to emulate this? Heroic-to-villain-and-back. Coz if you can, I would LOVE to hear it!)

  21. I haven't played either of my MMs (bots/dark and mercs/TA) much recently, but I think I'll wait before giving either of them another round until this is resolved. Cheers to those who've tested it and brought it to Castle's attention. (Did they give any kind of potential timeline on when it'll be looked into or resolved?)

  22. Yeah, a lot of people have raised the points about why I don't often try for them. (Especially when it comes to the "we only want certain ATs with certain powers and bugger the rest of you.") With certain players I'll do it - not because of what character they're on, but because we're so used to each other's playstyle (and we know how to follow directions) that we're more likely to make it than not. My very first Statesman TF was an MoSTF attempt... and we made it. I was astounded (and had been terrified the entire time of dying because I thought they'd all hate me).

But generally, yeah, when our SG takes a crack at an Mo-, we agree that Mission 1, if there's a death, we'll generally start over. After that, we plow through so at least we get merits and salvage and inf and stuff, and agree to try again some other time.

  24. I still associate 3 Doors Down's "Citizen Soldier" with CoH... it just FITS, for some reason. Villainside, it depends on the villain. I've got an extensive track listing for my characters (and several NPCs) because I usually don't hear ONE song and go, "yeah, that's CoV."

  25. Oh good, I'm not the only one who does this. Tier 1s I plow through, maybe even Tier 2s, but Tier 3s? I have to make a conscious effort to go, "Yes, I'll get more, use the damn things."

Though I'm actually more likely, in an AV fight, to toss certain Tier 3s to certain teammates (like the melee combatants) coz they'll probably need them more than I.
