A man after my own heart! Everyone wins!

(And my altisis would go into overdrive)

To expand on what I meant to say earlier (posting from my phone, so short), if I've decided I'm going to delete a character I really don't want to waste time playing them again. My Mind/Ice Dom is facing deletion right now and the last thing I'd want to do is battle my way through some epic arc as I've already pretty much given up on him.

If I ever felt like going out with a bang, I'd run a LGTF, rush to wherever the invasion spawned, kick as much Rikti *** as possible then trigger Self Destruction followed up by logging out and hitting delete.

It just seems too much development time for something that might only rarely get used and is pretty much a powers respec by any other name. Even with my limited slots, I've never felt the compulsion to do this. If the announcement came that they were going to pull the plug and that the servers were closing on Friday... maybe.

Unless you're in the EU. However even with drastically less slots than our NA friends, I still couldn't support this idea. I think the potential for negative press is far too high.

Besides, if I've decided to delete an alt, I'm not going to feel like spending any longer playing them. The delete button is quick and painless.
  3. I love my Kinetics/Ice. She feels like a Blaster with the amount of damage she can put out and the holds make soloing very safe indeed. Although there are two holds in the set, the second one has a long animation which I find jarring with the flow of Kinetics. With the right slotting and Siphon Speed running though, I can normally lock down a boss with 2 applications of Freeze Ray. And if you have someone to immobilize or slow the mobs, the combination of Fulcrum Shift and Ice Storm is.... sweet.

I also have a Dark/Kin Corruptor and although the damage cap is higher, the damage is very DoT and doesn't feel as solid as Ice. Dark though is a very good match and helps with mitigation where Kinetics doesn't give much.

Both are good combos but feel very different.
  4. In five years of being with CoX, I've have yet to do a Hami Raid. I will check the diary and see if I can make it.

That is a very good question.

I agree that comic book evil is quite lonely, the mad, demented scientist alone in his lab, the crazed mage surrounding himself with an army of the dead… neither really want or need a social setting.

But there are places in comic book and film history of villains hanging together be they a gang of thugs deciding to take over a neighbourhood or a circle of supervillains plotting to take over the world. These are the things I see little of in CoX roleplay. Plenty of mercenaries but not many power hungry villains. I guess I’m just curious to know why. Does their very nature make it difficult to socialise with others? Or is the RP they generate not as fun? We do lack the power to drastically alter the game world so it’s not like any threat of death rays from above could be realised. But sometimes it’s nice for that threat to be there.

As for ‘real world evil’ then we’re talking the kind of thing that does require social groups as already mentioned along with things such as leadership, power play and legions of willing followers. That kind of thing can be created in the AE (which I have done), less so with other participants.

I hadn’t intended this to be a discussion about the nature of evil (now that’s a discussion that could go on for days) but more about what levels of evil can a character do and still be socially acceptable? Would he be able to boast of eating three deep fried live kitties in front of a crowd of villains and still be acceptable or would even they blanche at the thought? Yes, there is always the suave villain who presents a sophisticated exterior to the world at large (got one of them ) but what about the person who shows no remorse for their actions? Are they doomed to be a social pariah?

That's a lot of questions and I don't necessarily think there are definitive answers, it's just a debate I'm curious about.

    Just for Fun...

Who's your friend GG? Don't tell me you finally succumbed to making an alt? And a villainous one at that?
  8. The above question is one I have had rolling around my head for a while now and with the advent of Going Rogue and Tips missions, it's cropped up again. Although aimed at the Unionverse posse, I'm curious to know what other people are roleplaying and how they do it.

Simply put, whenever I try to create a properly evil character (as in, one that takes delight in others misfortune, enjoys robbing stealing and murdering) I seem to inevitably have to tone down their behaviour once they enter into social RP. The reasons for this are understandable: that just as in real life, no-one really wants to hang around with someone who'se that malevolent towards others. Most of my so called villains appear to lean far more heavily towards the Rogue worldview where what they do may not necessarily be 'good' but it is not quite the cackling villain rubbing his hands at the thought of inflicting more torture and suffering on others. And I don't think I am alone.

Real villains only seem to crop up if a plot demands it, mainly to have someone to boo and for the bad guys to beat down on. Others again seem to be firmly in the Rogue camp. So here's the question: how do you roleplay real evil and remain sociable? And where are all the true villains of the Unionverse hiding? Because I'd like to meet them.
  9. IIRC, most of the Etoile Isles were once one big land mass off the coast of America, the two notable locations being Grandville and Port Oakes (which was renamed). However in the 1800s, the volcano underneath that land mass erupted, splitting them into the separate islands that we know today. Grandville is simply what remains of the capital town that was once there, also known as Grandville.

Not sure if I can find a source for that right now, but I seem to remember those details.
  10. I took my Mind/Ice Dominator up to 44 until I realised that I really dislike the power sets. I adore the character and RPing him but I am really not keen on Ice Assault. Rerolled him recently as a Fortunata which suits him much better. My Thugs/Dark has been retired since she hit 50, not that she wasn't effective but I just prefer Dark on my Defender instead.

And Z, I used to feel the same about my Stone/SS Tanker until I made a build that upped his run speed significantly. Once I did that, I didn't have to worry about toggling/untoggling Rooted or Granite again (unless of course I met an inch high obstacle, lol).
  11. I didn't participate in the last season but I'd be interested in trying out this time.

    Keep me posted.

    Goodbye

I don't think we ever spoke much but I certainly know who you are and the contributions you've made to the RP community on Union. Sad to see you go but I wish you well in whatever you do next.

    Farewell

    /em salute
  13. Yes, yes and YES again!

Fine, let my weapons be restricted on the first slot, but let me choose funky rifles for my Huntsman, a proper mace for my Bane and last but by all means not least, let my Widow get rid of those stupid claws that make her fists look like a cactus!

Double, triple and quadruple signed from me with a cherry on top. :P
  14. Hello fellow Defenders.

With i19 now live, I have returned to my first love, my D3 (Dark/Dark/Dark) Defender, my namesake and I'm having a wail of a time taking him through the Incarnate arc and teaming with fellow 50s on many TFs.

However, one thing is bugging me. If there's one thing that annoys me on Dante's build, it's his lack of damage. Now, I have built for damage increases and have 40% damage buff alone before adding on the solo boost that Defenders get. So at the moment, I am eyeing up a Musculature based Alpha slot.

However, if I add more damage to my build, will I eventually reach the AT cap? Would such a route be wasted? I already have decent recharge, end recovery and accuracy so damage seems a decent goal. I'm just wondering whether something else would benefit a D3 more?

    Any thoughts?

I figured that as he'd worked out a way to transmit his consciousness, he could simply make new bodies for himself and leap between them when they wore out. That would also mean that he could break the Carbon Law.

    Oh yes.

Although dimension eating is bad, it’s kinda final. Chomp, chomp, POOF! You’re dead. End of story.

The Coming Storm I think is far, far worse. A scourge that devours and uses anything it comes across, taking what it wants and burning the rest. How do I know this? I don’t. But look at what it supposedly did to the Kheldians (even if the jury’s still out on whether Twilight’s Son sold them to slavery): It took an entire race and used them as batteries to power its starships. That just reeks of something far more evil than just “I eat you!”

As for Nemesis’ mistake? Well those of us who’ve done the RWZ arcs already know about his greatest betrayal. By having us fight that war, humanity has been left weakened so when the Storm does arrive, we will be unable to fight back. I reckon one of the reasons that we’re cosying up to the Rikti right now is because they’ve faced the Battalion and survived so we’ll need their help in the coming battles. (Not quite ruling out a Rikti EAT just yet but not convinced either.)

I haven’t quite figured out Ramiel’s arc yet and how it ties into all of this. I have a feeling that the ‘alternate dimension’ spin is just a cover story for cross server teaming perhaps and doesn’t relate as much to the Coming Storm. But then, if I’m completely honest, I found the arc very weak in terms of storytelling, a minor step forward padded with enough fluff for anyone to cram their characters’ stories into it. But that’s my personal assessment.

However, has anyone thought yet that the mysterious letter writer might be the Well itself?
  17. Most of my characters use regular English words slammed together so they're not a problem. The two that get people most are Karnac (Car-nack) and Scarlet Sidhe (Sidhe pronounced 'She'). But then not everyone knows the sources I'm referencing so I don't expect them to get them right.

With those two, I'm normally called 'that huge Tank' or 'anyone see the Stalker?'.

My Rikti spy loves her green glowing blaster and my time traveller likes having that snazzy Rikti sword when doing RWZ arcs.

Other than that, yes fun I think will do as a good enough reason for me.

    If ONLY!!!

Still, quite a solid, fun movie. I got the feeling that it wanted to be Princess Bride which it wasn't quite but was still an enjoyable romp.

Quick, turn her on her side and point her at the window, we might get better reception!

(I have no email but if that's what's said, I've got to disregard it too otherwise we're living in a was zone. The only way to reconcile that is to accept that other heroes managed to fight off the attack in time.

Agreed on the Dev's fickle nature too. From the Coming Storm to Rularuu to Cimerora, they get something half finished then dive off in pursuit of the next new shiny.
  23. Nah. My money's still on the Battalion.

As much as I love Rularuu, I'm expecting something far, far worse.
