    Switching Sides

    [ QUOTE ]

Yeah, nobody listens to Stephen Hawking because of that totally unconventional text-to-speech rig he uses to "communicate."

    [/ QUOTE ]

People talking to Stephen Hawking generally aren't asking "Who the expletive are you and why should I care what you have to say?"

    [ QUOTE ]
Nobody pays attention to deaf people because of all those crazy things they're always doing with their hands.

    [/ QUOTE ]

A person who goes to the effort of translating a deaf person's sign language is generally beyond the step of "Who the expletive are you and why should I care what you have to say?"

One's sentence structure is part of the first impression, and doing things like capitalizing every word or being outright unintelligible can mean that no one cares what you have to say because it's too irritating to read. (Capitalization is one of my pet peeves, honestly. >_> It helps to be able to see sentence beginnings and important words.)
  2. Mostly subjective feedback:

It takes us (meaning me and Ruan Er) maybe one day of gameplay, especially on The Tiny Groups (*peers at the Twilight*), to pay rent. I could have an emperor battleship base, and still not find rent to be debilitating to my Prestige intake. I find this totally acceptable.

Our major issue at the moment is Salvage storage, and we'll probably fix that later by adding bins to the Control room.

I'd desperately like a separate bin for Event salvage, though, with expanded limits. Our Halloween stockpiles are hard to maintain with the current limit, and having to mix in Candy Canes with it is going to get.. "interesting".
  3. 1. In order to accommodate characters being converted, you'd have to leave in a lot of things from this game. Including stubborn mechanics flaws that I'm sure that, given a chance to redo things, the devs would kill very, very hard.

    2. Saying "you need a max-level character in another game to play this" would rub a lot of people the wrong way.

    3. MMO sequels tend to do poorly.

    4. Getting level 50s is not quite as short and easy as you like to make it out to be.

    5. It STILL sounds a lot like a thinly-veiled level cap increase demand.

does the self destruct option get interupted if hit like the pocket D TP?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I would highly, HIGHLY reccomend you do NOT zone while the self-destruct power is counting down. There is currently a bit of an issue with the FX script that can cause the camera shake to not stop and increase over time...indefinitely. If this happens, the only fix is to completely shut down the game and restart it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

What he was asking is if it is interruptable a la snipes and Assassin's Strikes, etc.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's not - the power will fire, or the enemy will kill you. Either way, be very sure before you hit that button.
  5. [ QUOTE ]

I dont agree with the sg thing. If I invite a friend to try a trial account, i cant bring them into my sg to kinda make them a part of the group to encourage them to stay. Do the RMTers actually use some part of a sg to spam? It isnt like we invite rmters into our sg's and have a problem with "$49.99 for 5 mill! pst to new sg member!!!!!" he wouldnt be in the sg more than 30 seconds longer lol.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Blame the people who made trial accounts and filled up their SGs just before prestige grants for that one.
  6. Is there a story arc contact beyond the Senator, or is that the only one?

  8. It's not the mitigation.

It's the fact that I couldn't actually do significant enough damage to get credit (in a team of six, no less) for pretty much -any- kills during the entire thing.

There is no "proportionate" damage, in other words. I'm doing 8 damage to an even critter, I'm doing 8 damage to the level 30-baseline Rikti.
  9. [ QUOTE ]

To be fair, my preferred solution would be revamp the whole leveling system to function more like it does with giant monsters & rikti.

    [/ QUOTE ]

After trying to do an Invasion on a level 14 last night, I'm kinda having my own personal little doubts about how well designed that system is. In my experience, it's fairly likely that said level 14 tanker is going to get dead to a solo minion long, long before he does even 25% health, and that's assuming he's hitting fairly consistently with his attacks.
  10. [ QUOTE ]
You can expand existing sets with identical, redundant powers, that call different colored power FX, and then let someone respec into blue or red. Obviously you have contingent powers and powers restricted by other powers figured out.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Except for.

    [ QUOTE ]

A: Duplicating powers and PFX in that way makes it very difficult to maintain those powers. We did this for the prestige sprints and it certainly can work, but if we were to do that for every player power then that's a huge amount of duplicate data just to have the visuals changed. The likelihood of bugs related to powers would increase exponentially. Every time Castle would go in to fix a bug with Flares, he'd have to fix that bug for every 'color' version of Flares.

It’s also a ton more work than being able to just take the current FX/particle scripts, dupe them one time, and set them to a common tint-able ready color. If we had to manually tint variants for every FX script then it’s a ridiculous amount of work.

It's also limiting the options for players. What if the shade of yellow we pick isn't the exact shade of yellow-orange, or yellow-green that you were really hoping for. Even sticking to Red, Orange, Yellow, Blue, Green, Violet, White, and Black would be duplicating the power defs for every player power 8 times. And would you guys really be happy with such a limited set of options?

So, it’s a ton more work for us, exponentially more upkeep problems for Castle, and less options for you guys. Not going to do this …even if it does work.

  11. I think the Very Little Dragon needs to make an appearance somewhere in this thread. *digs for pictures*
  12. I'm mostly objecting to it being used as any kind of metric. I'm not offering a judgement on its gameplay, but using "Guild Wars Has X Sales or Subscribers", to clarify.

It may be a stellar game and the best thing since sliced bread, but its "subscription" numbers are, in my opinion, best left out of any honest discussion with subscription-based MMOs.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
Guild Wars, a PvP focused game, had an increase of 57%

    [/ QUOTE ]

Guild Wars is not a good metric to use, due to its using ANYONE WHO EVER BUYS A BOX EVEN IF THEY ONLY PLAY FOR 10 MINUTES in its numbers.

Just making sure that gets its mention.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
A simple "We hear you and are working toward balance everyday." from a developer would please most of us.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Considering the rabid howler monkeys that inhabit forums... doing that would be a very, very bad idea. Can you not perceive why?
  15. [ QUOTE ]

Villains get an issue that gives them Grandville and levels 40-50. Heros get 2 issues that give them radio missions and Faultline because they got ignored. Meanwhile CoV still looks like it did at release.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This was one issue. Faultline and radio missions/safeguards were in the same issue.
  16. [u]Name[u]: The Circle of Dawn

[u]Currently Recruiting[u]: The Dawn is currently not accepting any new members, due to inactivity amongst its leadership. I only post this.. because we still exist. >_>

[u]RP Level[u]: The group is IC in SG and coalition chat, and expects members to remain IC in spatial and team.

[u]Theme/Concept[u]: The Circle of Dawn is a religious order devoted to a goddess (relatively minor in Paragon) of passion and devotion, as paradoxical as that sounds. A character specifically themed toward the Circle would likely be of Magic origin, though characters of all origins are welcomed.

[u]Activity[u]: Very light, lately, though hopefully that'll change, soon..

[u]Requirements for Membership[u]: Must be sponsored by two members in good standing (and have no objections from those above the rank of Initiate), or have Other Reasons.

    [u]Leadership[u]: Dalantia and Vixen Valor.

    [u]In-Game Contact(s)[u]: @Dalantia

    [u]Out-of-Game Contact(s)[u]: Zhao_Yun here, and dalantia@gmail.com

[u]URL[u]: No website. We're lazy like that. >_>

    [u]Coalition(s)[u]:
The Circle of Twilight - The side of the Dawn that embraces whatever means necessary in order to pursue their personal vendettas.

[u]Other Details[u]: Members, as characters, are expected to uphold a code of honor and integrity, respect legitimate authority (Yes, that means, within the Dawn's mythos, Paragon City's government), and to at the very least avoid attacking other heroes. They are not permitted to be vicious, revenge-driven vigilantes (Twilight is over -there-), and killing is forbidden.
  17. Maybe, but I like the new one better.
  18. Dalantia

    Cryptic article.

FFXI has done very well, for a pre-WoW MMO, as far as I know (had around.. 300k in its heyday, is dangling in the 150-250k range now, if the stats rattling around in my brain are correct - I'm about to go to sleep, and so, will not go to more effort), and it was developed first and foremost as a console game.
  19. Dalantia

    Cryptic article.

    Not from what I see.

I see two games based in the same world, with different rulesets.

No, hours upon hours of playing EverQuest and PlanetSide did that (not to mention all those other games that I shouldn't mention, cause well these are the CoH forums). But then, I don't design the game, so you are safe!

    You played PlanetSide?!
And here I thought I was the only one who played that. Now I feel the urge to hop in my BFR and aid the Vanu on Markov to crush everyone.

  22. [ QUOTE ]
No you don't get it. The rez power will now root you according to both sets of notes. That means that you can't do anything until the animation is finished (and that's a really long animation).

The stun and invincibility of this power aren't a benefit, especially since the invulnerability starts when you hit the button, not when the power ends.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I am intimately aware of how the power works, thank you.

And I'm saying that it has never been an issue for me. It's a long animation, yes, but the stun is going to last a significant amount of time longer than the animation - and if you haven't been putting your shields up while the animation plays, then you're the one who doesn't know how the power works.

The stun is what would allow me to retreat, if I am actually doing so instead of simply getting up to kill everything in a 30 foot radius.
  23. AoE ally buffs should not root.

Any power that affects a hostile roots. Transfusion and TG are debuffs as well as heals. Dark Regen and the various Life drains are attacks, as well as self-heals.
  24. [ QUOTE ]

If I rez and I'm rooted (unable to flee as long as it's activating) it means I'm going to die again.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Unfortunately, I have to question whether you're actually fleeing if you cannot get away and/or have your shields up and have hit Dark Regen (assuming necessary) by the time both the disorient and the invulnerability wear off.

If you're being mobbed, you'll pop up with full HP, anyway. If you're not, then they're going to be disoriented and wandering long enough for you to both beat feet and have your shields up to do so.

If they don't stagger around from the stun, then you're probably trying to solo an AV. ;p

DA has had plenty of love over the years. It is not suffering by any stretch of the imagination.
