Quote:Okay, I can buy that.mmmm.... I'd argue that. It may not have been the suggestions from specifically the PVP community, but if you look at older complaints ("just a bunch of people hopping around" or "Control is useless!" for instance,) you can see some of it "addressed" by some fo the changes. Not necessarily in a *good* way, but addressed.
Quote:Some off the top of my head:
There was a Dual Pistols thread that suggested the ammo swap powers.
VEATS
And VEATs were suggested on the forums? Hmmm. I remember just about everyone speculating that Villain EATs would be Nictus. I'm really, really glad that didn't happen, though. The VEATs we got are so much more than Nictus ever could have been. -

Quote:Another convert! Welcome to the club! Martial Arts is a great, fun set. Eagle's Claw>Dragon's Tail FTW!After 6+ years of playing COH, I finally got around to trying out the MA set on a scrapper. What a joy! I find myself saving up Crane Kick until I know it will defeat a mob, just for the fun of delivering the final blow by punting him across the room, or even better, off a bridge, cliff, walkway, or any other elevated surface. Woohoo - talk about feeling like a superhero!
-
For a former Warshade, the dark sets would seem a better fit. A human-form Warshade is quite reminiscent of a dark/dark Scrapper/Brute/Tanker.

Quote:I have no illusions about crafting making more money in the long run. If you craft, you will get more inf, in all likelihood. Now, using the time you'd be purchasing materials, crafting, pricing and listing enhancements for running missions, I don't know if that will lead to more inf, unless you're a high end farmer (do hard core farmers craft generally speaking?)He might make more just selling the recipe and running a mission instead of crafting.
This experiment is all about minimal market contact and minimal effort (no crafting). It's a given I'm going to make less on this stuff than a crafter would, but how much less? And is that much less worth the tradeoff? Speaking only for myself, based on the rolls so far, the answer is "yes". Of course, this could change based on future rolls (my target is around 67 million per roll).
And thank you for reading it. I hate crafting in this game, too. My advice is to craft and sell if you want maximum inf. In general, I don't bother. I do craft on occasion if I have something I want to use myself. But having done "real" crafting in other games, the crafting here is just not interesting at all. -
Quote:Most of the rolls have come from my MA/SR Scrapper Daemodand so far. He had a stockpile and I thought I'd entertain myself by expending them publicly. As he runs out, my alts are pitching in, and Daemodand converts the occasional Reward Merits as well since I'm revisiting all the game's story arcs with him.
how are you getting one merit a day?... alternating toons?
One could gain 1 Alignment Merit a day just by running two alts through Tip Missions, as well. It takes less than an hour to complete a set of 5 Tip Missions, so it isn't really time intensive.
And now it's time for today's random roll!
ROLL THE TWELFTH:
Time & Space Manipulation: +Stealth (Recipe). V9,995
Impervium Armor: +Psionic Resist (Recipe). 1,080,140
Aegis: End/Rech (Recipe). 456
Executioner's Contract: Disorient Bonus (Recipe). V9,995
Gift of the Ancients: Defense (Recipe). 4,509,014
THIS ROLL: 5,609,600
TWELVE ROLL TOTAL: 788,769,951
TWELVE ROLL AVERAGE: 65,730,829
COMMENTARY: And back to crap rolls. I'm still right on target though, and the next roll is bound to be higher, so no problem. I got burned on the Aegis. There were more bids out than recipes, and they were going for 1 millionish, but mine went for next to nothing thanks to my 1 inf rule. C'est la vie!
I put in a bid for a PvP +Def IO. Average wait time: 64 days.It isn't a game-changer for my build so I can wait.

Quote:The PvP changes ran contrary to what forum-going players were asking for, so no, those changes were not a result of any suggestions here.Weren't ED and/or GDN based on player suggestions - as well as some of the PVP changes?
ED...I don't know. I came to the game in Issue 6 so I have no idea where that came from.
Quote:Ice Melee not sucking any more was because of player suggestions about fixes to the powerset.
Quote:Turning to other parts of the game, it appears that Sally, the lake monster in Croatoa, may have originally been intended to be more of a garden variety giant monster. Her first write-up in the Paragon Times (a feature I still miss) implied that her spawning would be signaled by Redcaps performing a ceremony by the lake shore, followed by her rampaging around. As Skipper Legrange puts it in that write-up, "She has to be destroyed!" Players didn't like this, for some reason, and came up with the "Save Sally" campaign. Whether due to player pressure, time constraints, or development difficulties, we got the current, inoffensive version of our favorite lake monster. -
Looking back on my Kheldian play, I think the #1 reason I stopped playing them was the clunky animations (#2 was the slot crunch...so many powers, and most of them having to remain slotless for extended periods was frustrating and a fun killer). Kheldians should be able to "pop" from one form to another, to make them smooth and responsive. That alone would make them feel pretty epic. I'd also like to see the Dwarf and Nova forms get their own slots to alleviate the slot crunch.

Quote:You hit the nail on the head about Defense sets. They can softcap with very little effort, so they have all their set bonus opportunities available for other things, where other sets are spending their bonus opportunities on Defense instead. A surprising number of people haven't grasped this yet.(actually, their trick is being able to focus elsewhere while others build for defense it seems like).
My Ice has only just hit 22 and SO's, at about 30% defense I wasn't sure how much EA does (though it looks like a great power) and I can tell with combat jump and maneuvers it's going to cap pretty easily.
My initial impression of Energy Absorption both from an Endurance gain and Defense gain standpoint was "That's it?" I'm sure once I have it six-slotted, it'll feel like a completely different power. Or at least I hope.
Our characters are supposed to be superheroes and supervillains, so we expect them to be powerhouses all on their own (and they should be!) But Batman did make a good point when he said, "There are some challenges even we can't handle individually." -
Personally, I just can't bring myself to play a character without Inherent Fitness, but if someone else hasn't gotten around to respeccing, that's fine by me.

How about a late night random roll!
ROLL THE ELEVENTH:
2 Positron's Blast: Dam/Acc/End (Recipe). 15,318,010
Devastation: Chance to hold (Recipe). V9,995
Miracle: +Recovery (Recipe). 105,437,336
Impervium Armor: +Psionic Resist (Recipe). 699,005
THIS ROLL: 121,464,346
ELEVEN ROLL TOTAL: 783,160,351
ELEVEN ROLL AVERAGE: 71,196,395
COMMENTARY: And up we go! One piece of junk, three decent recipes and a great recipe. Sitting comfortably just above my target. Three-quarters of a billion in eleven days, eleven Alignment Merits, no crafting. Not bad at all! -

What suggestions did you first see made in the Suggestions forum that went on to actually be added to the game?
One of my favorites is my (and many others) suggestion the 60-day market auto-delete be done away with.
My suggestion for the power-ordering of Brute Super Reflexes. Well, it was made in the Brute forums and not here IIRC, but my power ordering made it into game.
What others can you think of (not necessarily your own)? -
I thought about vendoring it, but I saw there were some good bids in the history, so I took the chance at 1 inf and got burned. It's a very so-so IO, and IMHO 5 is about what it's really worth. Well okay, more like 10k, but that's pretty much the same thing.
And that 5 inf came along with about 200 million friends, so I really don't care at all that 1 recipe sold for nothing. Was probably a flipper that bought it and put it back up for 1 million. 1 whole million. Yawn!
And now for today's random roll!
ROLL THE TENTH:
Force Feedback*: Rech/Endurance (Recipe). V9,995
Trap of the Hunter: Acc/Immob/Rech (Recipe). V9,995
Touch of Death: Acc/Dam/End (Recipe). 100,005
Lockdown: Chance for +2 Mag Hold (Recipe). 45,006
Touch of Death: Dam/End/Rech (Recipe). 509,096
THIS ROLL: 674,097
TEN ROLL TOTAL: 661,696,005
TEN ROLL AVERAGE: 66,169,601
COMMENTARY: Feast and famine! My highest roll ever is followed by my newest lowest roll ever lol. I'm right on target, though, and there's nowhere to go but up! -
I prayed to Satan that he'd unlock all of Sameul_Tow's Mastermind's costume slots and he did! You're welcome.

Quote:Back when there was no endgame, that was my belief. Now? As opposed to the road to nowhere leveling used to be, it's now a road that leads to Disneyland. And a trip to Disneyland is not about the journey to Disneyland, it's about being at Disneyland!
Do you subscribe to the belief that the game should be about the journey, not the destination?
What about all those story arcs? Ouroboros. And playing those arcs is much more fun on a kitted-out-exemped-50. Much more fun.
I still don't approve of power leveling, though. There's definitely something to be said for spending a good amount of time with a character on their way up. Daemodand probably wouldn't be my main if he weren't such a problem child in the lower levels (back then the level 30-40 part of the game felt like a roach motel.) -
Sounds like Tankers have a new tagline.
Tankers: "The Bruising is real!"
Makes a good replacement for the old Tanker tagline:
Tankers: "We're Beatrice!" -
And now for today's random roll!
ROLL THE NINTH:
Decimation: Acc/Dam/Rech (Recipe). 4,500,005
Miracle: +Recovery (Recipe). 100,000,005
Luck of the Gambler: +7.5% Recharge Speed (Recipe). 108,000,005
Obliteration: Acc/Dam/Rech/End (Recipe). 63,000,005
Call of the Sandman: Chance for Self Heal (Recipe). 5
THIS ROLL: 275,500,025
NINE ROLL TOTAL: 661,021,908
NINE ROLL AVERAGE: 73,446,879
COMMENTARY: The wheel, it turns, it goes around. It makes an ancient influence sound! I feel better now. This is my best roll, and it follows my worst. Random is random. This roll was worth nearly as much as the first 8 rolls combined! Wow! I gotta say, two-thirds of a billion for nine days of work ain't bad. And I'm again above my target by 6 million or so. Of course, there's nowhere to go but down from here.
I have all my earnings earning additional interest (8% daily rate which means the APR is approximately one-berdillion%) in a LOTG money market account. There is no FDIC for Wentworth's though. -
Very generous of NCSoft to do this! Good for them!

Quote:Now this attitude I find much harder to understand than that of a hardcore soloist. The hardcore soloists are at least playing a game that they like. You are playing a game you don't like, only because there are other people also playing that same boring game. Now that makes my head asplode.Soloing, even with a good build, gets very boring very fast. If I wanted to just solo, I'd find a standard single player game, which'd likely have much better graphics, performance, and gameplay than any MMO.
Now if only the city would collect my garbage for 4 inf, I'd be all set! -
So what were they trying to bid? Extra zero would mean they were bidding 11,560,080 for 5 Hydraulic Pistons which is still pretty eye-rolling.
People playing their 50s has done things to salvage. -
I was caught in the great AT&T SoCal outage that happened several weeks ago, where due to the age of the network rain caused 10,000 people in my area to lose service.
Fired AT&T and I have cable internet now, and it's about ten times faster than AT&T's U-Verse DSL was. -
Too much family angst. I applaud it for being the rare show to be gutsy enough to actually put their superhero in a costume (unlike Heroes and No Ordinary Family).

I don't know why Daredevil is considered a bad movie by so many. I liked it quite a bit!
